We consider a continuous time dynamic pricing problem for selling a given number of items over a finite or infinite time horizon. The demand is price sensitive and follows a non-homogeneous Poisson process. We formulate this problem as to maximize the expected discounted revenue and obtain the structural properties of the optimal revenue function and optimal price policy by the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation. Moreover, we study the impact of the discount rate on the optimal revenue function and the optimal price. Further, we extend the problem to the case with discounting and time-varying demand, the infinite time horizon problem. Numerical examples are used to illustrate our analytical results.  相似文献

In many industrial settings, managers face the problem of establishing a pricing policy that maximises the revenue from selling a given inventory of items by a fixed deadline, with the full inventory of items being available for sale from the beginning of the selling period. This problem arises in a variety of industries, including the sale of fashion garments, flight seats, and hotel rooms. We present a family of continuous pricing functions for which the optimal pricing strategy can be explicitly characterised and easily implemented. These pricing functions are the basis for a general pricing methodology which is particularly well suited for application in the context of an increasing role for the Internet as a means to market goods and services.  相似文献

This paper aims to investigate the joint dynamic pricing and production decisions of deteriorating items with uncertain demand over a finite selling season, where the demand is price sensitive and the potential demand is characterized by a stochastic process. The stocks deteriorate physically at a constant fraction of the on-hand inventory. A joint dynamic pricing and production problem to maximize the total expected profit is modeled as a stochastic optimal control problem. We derive the closed-form solutions, which are in time-dependent linear feedback form of the inventory level when it is either positive or negative. It is shown that the manufacturer always benefits from a reduction in the volatility of potential market demand. In addition, to highlight the effectiveness of the joint dynamic strategy, we also consider the case of optimal production with a static price. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the validity of the optimal control policy, and sensitivity analysis on major parameters is performed to provide more managerial insights into deteriorating items.  相似文献

针对有保质期约束的非即时易腐品,零售商可以在产品非腐败阶段和腐败阶段进行差异化定价来调整市场需求。即零售商可以调整产品非腐败阶段的定价策略,使得非即时易腐品在进入腐败阶段之前全部售出;或者在产品腐败阶段降低零售价格以刺激市场需求。因此,在需求依赖价格的假设下,本文研究了零售商关于有保质期约束的非即时易腐品的最优订购与定价决策。通过分析零售商单位时间利润函数的理论性质,得到了零售商的最优订购与定价策略。基于线性和指数型两种需求函数形式进行数值算例,可以发现针对保质期较长或者非腐败阶段较长的易腐品,零售商会延长订货周期来增加销售收入。特别是在指数型需求函数情境下,当市场需求与零售价格高度相关时,零售商更有意愿降价来刺激销量,从而使得易腐品在非腐败阶段内销售完毕。  相似文献

Competition has a huge influence on customer buying behaviour and will impact on the optimal price that companies should charge for goods or services. To date, many dynamic pricing models have not modelled competition explicitly. In this paper, we introduce pricing strategies that maximize revenue when selling an inventory of identical items by a fixed time and where there is a competing seller. The model used incorporates a probabilistic formulation of customer demand, which is influenced by the prices offered by the company and the competitor, and the time remaining until the end of the selling period. Calculus of variations is used to solve the problem and simple conditions are given that ensure the uniqueness of a solution. Illustrative examples are included. A practical implementation that uses dynamic updating is proposed and tested using simulated data, showing the effectiveness of the method.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop an optimal stock selling strategy with the stochastic upper bound of selling rate over an infinite time horizon. Moreover, the temporary and permanent price impact are considered. We treat the problem by using a fluid model. In the model that the number of shares is treated as fluid (continuous) and the overall liquidation is dictated by the rates of selling over time. The goal is to maximize the overall return under state constraints. The corresponding value function with the selling strategies is shown to be continuous and the unique viscosity solution to the associated HJB equation. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the result.  相似文献

This paper studies a dynamic pricing problem for a monopolist selling multiple identical items to potential buyers arriving over time, where the time horizon is infinite, the goods are imperishable and the buyers’ arrival follows a renewal process. Each potential buyer has some private information about his purchasing will, and this private information is unknown to the seller and therefore characterized as a random variable in this paper. Thus, the buyers may have multi-unit demand. Meanwhile, the seller needs to determine the optimal posted price such that his expected discounted revenue is maximized. This problem is formulated as a stochastic dynamic programming in this paper and then how to obtain the solution is explored. A numerical study shows that the optimal posted price performs better than that of optimal fixed price, and this advantage becomes obvious as the interest rate and/or the number of initial items increases.  相似文献

Pricing and inventory management make up together revenue management, which is a significant effort to boost revenues out of available resources. Firms use various forms of dynamic pricing, including personalized pricing, markdowns, promotions, coupons, discounts, and clearance sales, to respond to market fluctuations and demand uncertainty. In this paper, we study a temporary price increase policy, a form of dynamic pricing, for a non-perishable product, a practice used by several giant retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, and Apple. We develop a continuous review inventory model that allows for joint replenishment and pricing decisions, where the lead time is not zero. A replenishment decision controls supply, while a pricing decision controls demand. A manager exercises a temporary price increase to slow demand and avoid a stock-out situation while waiting for a shipment, which may not necessarily increase revenues, but decrease stock-out costs. The problem is to solve for the optimal replenishment and the pricing policy parameters that maximize the long-run expected profit. That is, when and how much to order and when to raise the price. In this paper, the inventory level and time trigger a price increase. We solve many numerical examples and perform extensive sensitivity analyses. Our results show that compared to a model that focuses on fixed pricing, our model brings an additional increase in profit of about 13%.  相似文献

For many industries (e.g., apparel retailing) managing demand through price adjustments is often the only tool left to companies once the replenishment decisions are made. A significant amount of uncertainty about the magnitude and price sensitivity of demand can be resolved using the early sales information. In this study, a Bayesian model is developed to summarize sales information and pricing history in an efficient way. This model is incorporated into a periodic pricing model to optimize revenues for a given stock of items over a finite horizon. A computational study is carried out in order to find out the circumstances under which learning is most beneficial. The model is extended to allow for replenishments within the season, in order to understand global sourcing decisions made by apparel retailers. Some of the findings are empirically validated using data from U.S. apparel industry.  相似文献

We consider a single product that is, subject to continuous decay, a multivariate demand function of price and time, shortages allowed and completely backlogged in a periodic review inventory system in which the selling price is allowed to adjust upward or downward periodically. The objective of this paper is to determine the periodic selling price and lot-size over multiperiod planning horizon so that the total discount profit is maximized. The proposed model can be used as an add-in optimizer like an advanced planning system in an enterprise resource planning system that coordinates distinct functions within a firm. Particular attention is placed on investigating the effect of periodic pricing jointly with shortages on the total discount profit. The problem is formulated as a bivariate optimization model solved by dynamic programming techniques coupled with an iterative search process. An intensive numerical study shows that the periodic pricing is superior to the fixed pricing in profit maximization. It also clarifies that shortages strategy can be an effective cost control mechanism for managing deterioration inventory.  相似文献

We study a pricing problem where buyers with non-uniform demand purchase one of many items. Each buyer has a known benefit for each item and purchases the item that gives the largest utility, which is defined to be the difference between the benefit and the price of the item. The optimization problem is to decide on the prices that maximize total revenue of the seller. This problem is also called the optimal product line design problem in the absence of competition.

Even though the general problem is known to be NP-hard, it can be solved efficiently under some natural assumptions on customer benefits. In this paper we study properties of optimal solutions and present a dynamic programming algorithm when customer benefits satisfy the Monge property. The same algorithm can also be used to solve the problem under the additional requirement that all buyers should be served.  相似文献

This paper deals with an economic production quantity inventory model for non-instantaneous deteriorating items under inflationary conditions considering customer returns. We adopt a price- and time-dependent demand function. Also, the customer returns are considered as a function of both price and demand. The effects of time value of money are studied using the Discounted Cash Flow approach. The main objective is to determine the optimal selling price, the optimal replenishment cycles, and the optimal production quantity simultaneously such that the present value of total profit is maximized. An efficient algorithm is presented to find the optimal solution. Finally, numerical examples are provided to solve the presented inventory model using our proposed algorithm, which is further clarified through a sensitivity analysis. The results of analysing customer returns provide important suggestions to financial managers who use price as a control to match the quantity sold to inventory while maximizing revenues. The paper ends with a conclusion and an outlook to future studies.  相似文献

The question of simultaneous dynamic pricing, product and process investment policies is crucial for manufacturing and high-tech industries. This paper models these policies in an optimal control setting. On the supply side, the firm sets prices, product and process investment levels over time. On the demand side, current demand depends on price and quality. Under an additive separable demand function, dynamic pricing increases with quality and cost. Therefore, both product innovation and process innovation impact the pricing policy. Under a multiplicative separable demand function, dynamic pricing policy follows the dynamic of production cost and is independent of the evolution of product quality. Thus, process innovation is the main determinant of a firm’s pricing policy over time and product innovation has no impact.  相似文献

建立了无限期内冷链品具有Weibull生存死亡特征、随机需求且受售价影响的库存补货定价模型,其中售价是连续变化的,需求率是售价的指数函数,变质率服从的三参数Weibull分布,提前期固定。系统以利润最大化为目标函数,在(r,Q)库存策略下,建立库存模型,采用直接法,对模型近似求解,得到最优补货定价策略。利用Matlab进行算例模拟和灵敏度分析发现:补货提前期和单位仓储成本对补货定价策略影响较大,二者增大会导致系统利润降低;单位处理成本的增加,在一定程度上使得系统降低最优补货量,使系统利润增加;保鲜期固定的前提下,受冷链品的流动环境因子和存储环境因子影响的变质率对补货定价策略影响较大,它的增大会使系统利润降低。这些发现能够帮助优化系统模型,对现实问题具有一定的指导意义。  相似文献

A single item economic order quantity model is considered in which the demand is stock dependent. After a certain time the product starts to deteriorate and due to visualization effect and other aspects of deterioration the demand becomes constant. In that situation a discount on selling price provides significant increment in demand rate. In this paper we investigate how much discount on selling price may be given during deterioration to maximize the profit per unit time and whether a pre-deterioration discount affects the unit profit or not. A mathematical model is developed incorporating both pre- and post deterioration discounts on unit selling price, where analytical results reveal some important characteristics of discount structure. A numerical example is presented and sensitivity analysis of the model is carried out.  相似文献

Postponement strategies are becoming increasingly important in light of a global trend in which products’ life-cycles are decreasing, such that even products that are not traditionally considered seasonal become “obsolete” within a short period of time (e.g., electronic devices, new cars). Our work addresses postponed-pricing and ordering decisions for a retailer who sells a newsvendor-type inventoried product, in a selling season that is divided into two sub-periods. The division of the selling season enables the retailer to on-line adjust her decisions when faced with a scenario (one that is highly prevalent in reality) in which potential demand changes (increases or decreases) following consumers’ experiences of the product in early stages of the selling season. We assume that the retailer has two opportunities for receiving shipments: prior to the first sub-period and prior to the second one. The retailer determines each order quantity (base-stock level) on the basis of the demand distribution for the corresponding sub-period. In each sub-period, after observing additional market signals, the retailer determines the price of the product for that sub-period. With the aid of a stochastic programming approach, we develop optimization problems and solution methods in order to obtain pricing and ordering decisions that maximize the expected profit of the retailer. We present an extensive numerical example that compares the suggested strategy to three alternative strategies, and conclude that price postponement and responsiveness to demand changes can each reduce leftovers and lost sales as well as substantially increase expected profit.  相似文献
