The classical structure underlying the quantum mechanics of molecular vibrations is illustrated by reference to changes in vibrational energy distributions induced by increased anharmonic coupling as the energy increases. Specific applications to Fermi resonance models and to the level structures arising from cylindrically symmetrical saddle points are used to illustrate the relevance of classical bifurcation analysis, catastrophe theory, and quantum monodromy.  相似文献

The singularity theorems of classical general relativity are briefly reviewed. The extent to which their conclusions might still apply when quantum theory is taken into account is discussed. There are two distinct quantum loopholes: quantum violation of the classical energy conditions, and the presence of quantum fluctuations of the spacetime geometry. A strong analog classical simulation of general quantum evolution is proposed, which serves as a novel scheme in quantum computation and simulation. The scheme employs the approach of geometric quantum mechanics and quantum informational technique of quantum tomography, which applies broadly to cases of mixed states, nonunitary evolution, and infinite dimensional systems. The simulation provides an intriguing classical picture to probe quantum phenomena, namely, a coherent quantum dynamics can be viewed as a globally constrained classical Hamiltonian dynamics of a collection of coupled particles or strings. Efficiency analysis reveals a fundamental difference between the locality in real space and locality in Hilbert space, the latter enables efficient strong analog classical simulations. Examples are also studied to highlight the differences and gaps among various simulation methods.  相似文献

Quantum Group of Isometries in Classical and Noncommutative Geometry   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
We formulate a quantum generalization of the notion of the group of Riemannian isometries for a compact Riemannian manifold, by introducing a natural notion of smooth and isometric action by a compact quantum group on a classical or noncommutative manifold described by spectral triples, and then proving the existence of a universal object (called the quantum isometry group) in the category of compact quantum groups acting smoothly and isometrically on a given (possibly noncommutative) manifold satisfying certain regularity assumptions. The idea of ‘quantum families’ (due to Woronowicz and Soltan) are relevant to our construction. A number of explicit examples are given and possible applications of our results to the problem of constructing quantum group equivariant spectral triples are discussed. Tensor products of quantum logics and effect algebras with some known problems are reviewed. It is noticed that although tensor products of effect algebras having at least one state exist, in the category of complex Hilbert space effect algebras similar problems as with tensor products of projection lattices occur. Nevertheless, if one of the two coupled physical systems is classical, tensor product exists and can be considered as a Boolean power. Some applications of tensor products (in the form of Boolean powers) to quantum measurements are reviewed.  相似文献

It is shown that the hallmark quantum phenomenon of contextuality is present in classical statistical mechanics (CSM). It is first shown that the occurrence of contextuality is equivalent to there being observables that can differentiate between pure and mixed states. CSM is formulated in the formalism of quantum mechanics (FQM), a formulation commonly known as the Koopman–von Neumann formulation (KvN). In KvN, one can then show that such a differentiation between mixed and pure states is possible. As contextuality is a probabilistic phenomenon and as it is exhibited in both classical physics and ordinary quantum mechanics (OQM), it is concluded that the foundational issues regarding quantum mechanics are really issues regarding the foundations of probability.  相似文献

We present a comparative study of the dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord in a bipartite system in the presence of mixed classical noises. In particular, the joint effects of three different types of classical noises, namely, random telegraphic noise (RTN), Ornstein–Uhlenbeck noise (OU), and static noise, are studied by combining them in two different ways. In each case, one marginal system is coupled with random telegraphic noise, and the other marginal system is coupled with either OU or static noise. We make a comparison between the behaviors of both correlations in the two setups. In the weak coupling regime, the qualitative behavior of entanglement is unaffected by switching the coupling of only one marginal system from OU to static noise, and vice versa. However, the behavior of quantum discord strongly depends on whether it is coupled with OU or static noise. On the other hand, in the strong coupling regime, the static noise is more fatal to the survival of both correlations as compared to the other two noises.  相似文献

We construct examples of billiards where two chaotic flows are moving in opposite directions around a non-chaotic core or vice versa; the dynamics in the core are chaotic but flows that are moving in opposite directions around it are non-chaotic. These examples belong to a new class of dynamical systems called elliptic flowers billiards. Such systems demonstrate a variety of new behaviors which have never been observed or predicted to exist. Elliptic flowers billiards, where a chaotic (non-chaotic) core coexists with the same (chaotic/non-chaotic) type of dynamics in flows were recently constructed. Therefore, all four possible types of coexisting dynamics in the core and tracks are detected. However, it is just the beginning of studies of elliptic flowers billiards, which have already extended the imagination of what may happen in phase spaces of nonlinear systems. We outline some further directions of investigation of elliptic flowers billiards, which may bring new insights into our understanding of classical and quantum dynamics in nonlinear systems.  相似文献

The nonlinear Hartree equation describes the macroscopic dynamics of initially factorized N-boson states, in the limit of large N. In this paper we provide estimates on the rate of convergence of the microscopic quantum mechanical evolution towards the limiting Hartree dynamics. More precisely, we prove bounds on the difference between the one-particle density associated with the solution of the N-body Schrödinger equation and the orthogonal projection onto the solution of the Hartree equation.  相似文献

Let H be a separable infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space. We prove that every continuous 2-local automorphism of the poset (that is, partially ordered set) of all idempotents on H is an automorphism. Similar results concerning the orthomodular poset of all projections and the Jordan ring of all selfadjoint operators on H without the assumption on continuity are also presented.  相似文献

We use linear entropy of an exact quantum state to study the entanglement between internal electronic states and external motional states for a two-level atom held in an amplitude-modulated and tilted optical lattice.Starting from an unentangled initial state associated with the regular 'island' of classical phase space,it is demonstrated that the quantum resonance leads to entanglement generation,the chaotic parameter region results in the increase of the generation speed,and the symmetries of the initial probability distribution determine the final degree of entanglement.The entangled initial states are associated with the classical 'chaotic sea',which do not affect the final entanglement degree for the same initial symmetry.The results may be useful in engineering quantum dynamics for quantum information processing.  相似文献

We give an account of the genesis of the gauge groups of the standard model plus gravity and their concomitant interaction terms ab initio from a consideration of the quantization of certain classical discrete symmetries. We indicate how the resulting symmetries may be gauged upon a semi-quantized non manifold-like model of spacetime. This model is briefly introduced and some of its pre- or quantum geometry is developed from first principles. The formalism leads to a view of gauge interaction that admits an apparently new form of symmetry breaking that accounts, among other things, for the chiral breaking of the weak interaction. (A sequel will give an account of a range of mechanisms to break other symmetries arising in the standard model, and will consider some of their experimental consequences.)  相似文献

We consider symmetry breaking in the context of vector bundle theory, which arises quite naturally not only when attempting to “gauge” symmetry groups, but also as a means of localizing those global symmetry breaking effects known as spontaneous. We review such spontaneous symmetry breaking first for a simplified version of the Goldstone scenario for the case of global symmetries, and then in a localized form which is applied to a derivation of some of the phenomena associated with superconduction in both its forms, type I and type II. We then extend these procedures to effect the Higgs mechanism of electroweak theory, and finally we describe an extension to the flavor symmetries of the lightest quarks, including a brief discussion of CP-violation in the neutral kaon system. A largely self-contained primer of vector bundle theory is provided in Sect. 4, which supplies most of the results required thereafter.  相似文献
