 The minimum boundary length density of a lattice-periodic set with given period lattice and area density is determined, together with the extremal sets, and a conjecture on the higher-dimensional analogue is made. This improves previous results of Hadwiger for -periodic d-dimensional sets and of Schnell and Wills on two-dimensional sets with arbitrary period-lattice. In this paper we use the penalty approach in order to study constrained minimization problems in a complete metric space with locally Lipschitzian mixed constraints. A penalty function is said to have the exact penalty property if there is a penalty coefficient for which a solution of an unconstrained penalized problem is a solution of the corresponding constrained problem. In this paper we establish sufficient conditions for the exact penalty property.   相似文献

In this paper we give a solution of the following problem: under what conditions on infinite compact sets and polynomials f 1, f 2 do the preimages f 1−1{K 1} and f 2−1{K 2} coincide. Besides, we investigate some related questions. In particular, we show that polynomials sharing an invariant compact set distinct from a point have equal Julia sets. In this paper, we characterize the symbol in Hormander symbol classS ρ m ,δ (m ∈ R, ρ, δ ≥ 0) by its wavelet coefficients. Consequently, we analyse the kerneldistribution property for the symbol in the symbol classS ρ m ,δ (mR, ρ > 0, δ 0) which is more general than known results ; for non-regular symbol operators, we establish sharp L2-continuity which is better than Calderón and Vaillancourt’s result, and establishL p (1 ≤p ≤∞) continuity which is new and sharp. Our new idea is to analyse the symbol operators in phase space with relative wavelets, and to establish the kernel distribution property and the operator’s continuity on the basis of the wavelets coefficients in phase space.  相似文献

We further present some semi-discrete modifications to the cubically convergent iterative methods derived by Kanwar and Tomar (Modified families of Newton, Halley and Chebyshev methods, Appl. Math. Comput. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.amc.2007.02.119) and derived a number of interesting new classes of third-order multi-point iterative methods free from second derivatives. Furthermore, several functions have been tested and all the methods considered are found to be effective and compared to the well-known existing third and fourth-order multi-point iterative methods.   相似文献

On the bounded Sierpinski gasket F we use the set of essential fixed points V 0 as a boundary and consider the fractal Brownian motion on F killed in V 0. The corresponding Dirichlet–Laplacian is described in terms of a kind of hyperbolic distance, a metric which explodes near the boundary. We consider Harnack inequalities, Green’s function estimates and (random) products of matrices defining the local energy of harmonic functions. We show that a finite collection of exchangeable random variables on an arbitrary measurable space is a signed mixture of i.i.d. random variables. Two applications of this idea are examined, one concerning Bayesian consistency, in which it is established that a sequence of posterior distributions continues to converge to the true value of a parameter θ under much wider assumptions than are ordinarily supposed, the next pertaining to Statistical Physics where it is demonstrated that the quantum statistics of Fermi-Dirac may be derived from the statistics of classical (i.e. independent) particles by means of a signed mixture of multinomial distributions.   相似文献

Birch and Tverberg partitions are closely related concepts from discrete geometry. We show two properties for the number of Birch partitions: Evenness and a lower bound. This implies the first nontrivial lower bound for the number of Tverberg partitions that holds for arbitrary q, where q is the number of partition blocks. The proofs are based on direct arguments and do not use the equivariant method from topological combinatorics.  相似文献

The extragradient method uses only the values of the function in the variational inequality to solve it. In many real-life problems, the functions do not have explicit expressions and their evaluations are expensive. Therefore, it is important and practical to reduce the number of function evaluations used in these problems. In order to do this, we present some modifications to one existing extragradient method. First, we analyze the limit of the projection along a direction onto a closed convex set. Then, using the obtained result, we give a horizontal asymptotic property of an estimated function to the one measuring the progress in each iteration. From this property, a Newton search as well a self-adjusted relaxation procedure are introduced with an improved steplength into the extragradient method. Besides the theoretical background, numerical results are given to show the progress of the modified method. In this paper, we consider finite families of convex sets in ℝ d such that every d or fewer sets of the family have a common point. For some families of this type, we give upper bounds on the size of a finite set intersecting all sets of the family. In this paper we extend certain correlation inequalities for vector-valued Gaussian random variables due to Kolmogorov and Rozanov. The inequalities are applied to sequences of Gaussian random variables and Gaussian processes. For sequences of Gaussian random variables satisfying a correlation assumption, we prove a Borel-Cantelli lemma, maximal inequalities and several laws of large numbers. This extends results of Be?ka and Ciesielski and of Hytönen and the author. In the second part of the paper we consider a certain class of vector-valued Gaussian processes which are α-Hölder continuous in p-th moment. For these processes we obtain Besov regularity of the paths of order α. We also obtain estimates for the moments in the Besov norm. In particular, the results are applied to vector-valued fractional Brownian motions. These results extend earlier work of Ciesielski, Kerkyacharian and Roynette and of Hytönen and the author.  相似文献

We describe a method for determining the minimal length of elements in the generalized Thompson’s groups F(p). We compute the length of an element by constructing a tree pair diagram for the element, classifying the nodes of the tree and summing associated weights from the pairs of node classifications. We use this method to effectively find minimal length representatives of an element.   相似文献
