We report new measurements in four cells of the thermal boundary resistance R between copper and (4)He below but near the superfluid-transition temperature T(lambda). For 10(-7)< or =t identical to 1-T/T(lambda))< or =10(-4) fits of R = R(0)t(-x(b))+R(B) to the data yielded x(b) approximately equal to 0.18, whereas a fit to theoretical values based on the renormalization-group theory yielded x(b) = 0.23. Alternatively, a good fit of the theory to the data could be obtained if the amplitude of the prediction was reduced by a factor close to 2. The results raise the question whether the boundary conditions used in the theory should be modified. 相似文献

Quartz oscillator measurements reveal new behavior in 3He-4He mixture films on a H2 substrate. For mixture films of total coverage greater than one monolayer, in addition to the expected Kosterlitz-Thouless transition, a second mass decoupling event is observed, which behaves differently from the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. 相似文献

New diode lasers delivering 50 mW output power at 1083 nm are shown to be efficient sources for optical pumping of helium. They can polarize nuclei in a3He gas up toM = 50% over the pressure range 0.4–1.6 torr. Larger nuclear polarizationsM of3He nuclei, of order 80%, can be obtained in3He-4He mixtures when the laser frequency is tuned to a4He line. A standard optical measurement of nuclear polarizationM has been extended to the case of3He-4He mixtures. The effect of various parameters on the steady-state polarizationM and on the pumping timeT

We have measured the heat capacity of (3)He-(4)He mixtures confined in films of thickness 48.3 and 986.9 nm. The confinement is defined by direct bonding of two silicon wafers. The heat capacity is measured using an ac technique and then transformed to correct for exponent renormalization effects. The data address the expected universal critical behavior along the lambda line as function of (3)He concentration. We discuss the results of several analyses of the data, and we show that a universal collapse can be achieved for all the mixtures. However, this is on a locus which differs from that of the pure system. An alternative analysis is also presented which yields collapse of all the data under certain assumptions. We believe these data are the first to test universality of finite-size scaling for the specific heat along a locus of transitions. 相似文献

The superfluid transitions temperature is calculated from the microscopic theory of a Fermi liquid in terms of the Landau parameters and one unknown scale factor. The frequency dependences of the velocity and attenuation of waves propagating along the boundary between a saturated porous medium and a liquid are investigated. It is shown that, depending on the parameters of the saturated porous medium and the boundary conditions, the propagation of one, two, or three surface waves is possible, each of them being either a true mode or a pseudomode. The results of the study agree well with other investigations carried out in the high-frequency approximation. 相似文献

The dynamical transition in the crystallization of 4He in aerogel has been investigated by direct visualization and dynamical phase diagrams have been determined. The crystal-superfluid interface in aerogel advances via creep at high temperatures and avalanches at low temperatures. The transition temperature is higher at a higher interface velocity and lower in higher porosity aerogels. The transition is due to competition between thermal fluctuations and disorder for the crystallization process. 相似文献

The electrical resistivity of a series of dilute Cr-Ge alloys containing up to 1.5 atm % Ge, was measured as a function of temperature and pressure. The measurements clearly demonstrate the existence of resistivity anomalies at the incommensurate-commensurate spin density wave transition temperature (TIC) in contrast with recently reported results. The complete magnetic phase diagram, determined for the first time from electrical resistivity measurements, contains a triple point in contrast with previous neutron diffraction results but in agreement with thermal expansion measurements. It was found that the incommensurate spin density wave state is absent in alloys with more than 1 atm % Ge. The Néel temperatures and incommensurate-commensurate transition temperatures are affected differently by pressure. Pressure decreases TN in all the alloys while it increases TIC for those alloys in which the incommensurate-commensurate transition occurs. The decrease of TN with pressure is much larger for the commensurate-paramagnetic than for the incommensurate-paramagnetic transition. The electrical resistivity of the alloys at room temperature behaves anomalously with applied pressure. This anomalous behaviour is attributed to an antiferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition that is induced in the alloys by applied pressure. 相似文献
