This paper introduces a new constant \(\kappa \), with a definition closely related to that of the Euler–Mascheroni’s constant \(\gamma \). Some integrals and infinite sums are evaluated in terms of \(\kappa \).  相似文献

For \(q,n,d \in \mathbb {N}\), let \(A_q(n,d)\) be the maximum size of a code \(C \subseteq [q]^n\) with minimum distance at least d. We give a divisibility argument resulting in the new upper bounds \(A_5(8,6) \le 65\), \(A_4(11,8)\le 60\) and \(A_3(16,11) \le 29\). These in turn imply the new upper bounds \(A_5(9,6) \le 325\)\(A_5(10,6) \le 1625\)\(A_5(11,6) \le 8125\) and \(A_4(12,8) \le 240\). Furthermore, we prove that for \(\mu ,q \in \mathbb {N}\), there is a 1–1-correspondence between symmetric \((\mu ,q)\)-nets (which are certain designs) and codes \(C \subseteq [q]^{\mu q}\) of size \(\mu q^2\) with minimum distance at least \(\mu q - \mu \). We derive the new upper bounds \(A_4(9,6) \le 120\) and \(A_4(10,6) \le 480\) from these ‘symmetric net’ codes.  相似文献

We prove Nikol’skii type inequalities that, for polynomials on the n-dimensional torus \(\mathbb {T}^n\), relate the \(L^p\)-norm with the \(L^q\)-norm (with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure and \(0 <p <q < \infty \)). Among other things, we show that \(C=\sqrt{q/p}\) is the best constant such that \(\Vert P\Vert _{L^q}\le C^{\text {deg}(P)} \Vert P\Vert _{L^p}\) for all homogeneous polynomials P on \(\mathbb {T}^n\). We also prove an exact inequality between the \(L^p\)-norm of a polynomial P on \(\mathbb {T}^n\) and its Mahler measure M(P), which is the geometric mean of |P| with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure on \(\mathbb {T}^n\). Using extrapolation, we transfer this estimate into a Khintchine–Kahane type inequality, which, for polynomials on \(\mathbb {T}^n\), relates a certain exponential Orlicz norm and Mahler’s measure. Applications are given, including some interpolation estimates.  相似文献

The Voronin universality theorem asserts that a wide class of analytic functions can be approximated by shifts \(\zeta (s+i\tau )\), \(\tau \in \mathbb {R}\), of the Riemann zeta-function. In the paper, we obtain a universality theorem on the approximation of analytic functions by discrete shifts \(\zeta (s+ix_kh)\), \(k\in \mathbb {N}\), \(h>0\), where \(\{x_k\}\subset \mathbb {R}\) is such that the sequence \(\{ax_k\}\) with every real \(a\ne 0\) is uniformly distributed modulo 1, \(1\le x_k\le k\) for all \(k\in \mathbb {N}\) and, for \(1\le k\), \(m\le N\), \(k\ne m\), the inequality \(|x_k-x_m| \ge y^{-1}_N\) holds with \(y_N> 0\) satisfying \(y_Nx_N\ll N\).  相似文献

A set \(S\subseteq V\) is a paired-dominating set if every vertex in \(V{\setminus } S\) has at least one neighbor in S and the subgraph induced by S contains a perfect matching. The paired-domination number of a graph G, denoted by \(\gamma _{pr}(G)\), is the minimum cardinality of a paired-dominating set of G. A conjecture of Goddard and Henning says that if G is not the Petersen graph and is a connected graph of order n with minimum degree \(\delta (G)\ge 3\), then \(\gamma _{pr}(G)\le 4n/7\). In this paper, we confirm this conjecture for k-regular graphs with \(k\ge 4\).  相似文献

An important trigonometric inequality essentially due to Wiener but later on made precise by Ingham concerning the lacunary trigonometric sums \(f(x)=\sum A_ke^{in_kx}\), where \(A_k\)’s are complex numbers, \(n_{-k}=-n_k\) and \(\{n_k\}\) satisfies the small gap condition \((n_{k+1}-n_k)\ge q\ge 1\) for \(k=0,1,2,\ldots \), says that if I is any subinterval of \([-\pi ,\pi ]\) of length \(|I|=2\pi (1+\delta )/q>2\pi /q\) then \(\sum |A_k|^2\le A_{\delta }|I|^{-1}\int _I|f|^2\), \(|A_k|\le A_{\delta }|I|^{-1}\int _I|f|\), wherein \(A_{\delta }\) depends only on \(\delta \). Such an inequality is proved here in the setting of the Vilenkin groups G. The inequality is then applied to generalize the Bernstěin, Szász and Ste?hkin type results concerning the absolute convergence of Fourier series on G.  相似文献

We show that for a locally \(\sigma \)-finite measure \(\mu \) defined on a \(\delta \)-ring, the associate space theory can be developed as in the \(\sigma \)-finite case, and corresponding properties are obtained. Given a saturated \(\sigma \)-order continuous \(\mu \)-Banach function space E, we prove that its dual space can be identified with the associate space \(E ^\times \) if, and only if, \(E^\times \) has the Fatou property. Applying the theory to the spaces \(L^p (\nu )\) and \(L_w^p (\nu )\), where \(\nu \) is a vector measure defined on a \(\delta \)-ring \(\mathcal {R}\) and \(1 \le p < \infty \), we establish results corresponding to those of the case when the vector measure is defined on a \(\sigma \)-algebra.  相似文献

An algorithmic upper bound on the domination number \(\gamma \) of graphs in terms of the order n and the minimum degree \(\delta \) is proved. It is demonstrated that the bound improves best previous bounds for any \(5\le \delta \le 50\). In particular, for \(\delta =5\), Xing et al. (Graphs Comb. 22:127–143, 2006) proved that \(\gamma \le 5n/14 < 0.3572 n\). This bound is improved to 0.3440 n. For \(\delta =6\), Clark et al. (Congr. Numer. 132:99–123, 1998) established \(\gamma <0.3377 n\), while Biró et al. (Bull. Inst. Comb. Appl. 64:73–83, 2012) recently improved it to \(\gamma <0.3340 n\). Here the bound is further improved to \(\gamma < 0.3159n\). For \(\delta =7\), the best earlier bound 0.3088n is improved to \(\gamma < 0.2927n\).  相似文献

We consider the partition lattice \(\Pi (\lambda )\) on any set of transfinite cardinality \(\lambda \) and properties of \(\Pi (\lambda )\) whose analogues do not hold for finite cardinalities. Assuming AC, we prove: (I) the cardinality of any maximal well-ordered chain is always exactly \(\lambda \); (II) there are maximal chains in \(\Pi (\lambda )\) of cardinality \(> \lambda \); (III) a regular cardinal \(\lambda \) is strongly inaccessible if and only if every maximal chain in \(\Pi (\lambda )\) has size at least \(\lambda \); if \(\lambda \) is a singular cardinal and \(\mu ^{< \kappa } < \lambda \le \mu ^\kappa \) for some cardinals \(\kappa \) and (possibly finite) \(\mu \), then there is a maximal chain of size \(< \lambda \) in \(\Pi (\lambda )\); (IV) every non-trivial maximal antichain in \(\Pi (\lambda )\) has cardinality between \(\lambda \) and \(2^{\lambda }\), and these bounds are realised. Moreover, there are maximal antichains of cardinality \(\max (\lambda , 2^{\kappa })\) for any \(\kappa \le \lambda \); (V) all cardinals of the form \(\lambda ^\kappa \) with \(0 \le \kappa \le \lambda \) occur as the cardinalities of sets of complements to some partition \(\mathcal {P} \in \Pi (\lambda )\), and only these cardinalities appear. Moreover, we give a direct formula for the number of complements to a given partition. Under the GCH, the cardinalities of maximal chains, maximal antichains, and numbers of complements are fully determined, and we provide a complete characterisation.  相似文献

We give Fourier spectrum characterizations of functions in the Hardy \(H^p\) spaces on tubes for \(1\le p \le \infty .\) For \(F\in L^p(\mathbb {R}^n), \) we show that F is the non-tangential boundary limit of a function in a Hardy space, \(H^{p}(T_\Gamma ),\) where \(\Gamma \) is an open cone of \(\mathbb {R}^n\) and \(T_\Gamma \) is the related tube in \(\mathbb {C}^n,\) if and only if the classical or the distributional Fourier transform of F is supported in \(\Gamma ^*,\) where \(\Gamma ^*\) is the dual cone of \(\Gamma .\) This generalizes the results of Stein and Weiss for \(p=2\) in the same context, as well as those of Qian et al. in one complex variable for \(1\le p\le \infty .\) Furthermore, we extend the Poisson and Cauchy integral representation formulas to the \(H^p\) spaces on tubes for \(p\in [1, \infty ]\) and \(p\in [1,\infty ),\) with, respectively, the two types of representations.  相似文献

The spectral unit ball \(\Omega _n\) is the set of all \(n\times n\) matrices M with spectral radius less than 1. Let \(\pi (M) \in \mathbb {C}^n\) stand for the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of a matrix M (up to signs), i.e. the elementary symmetric functions of its eigenvalues. The symmetrized polydisc is \({{\mathbb {G}}}_n:=\pi (\Omega _n)\). When investigating Nevanlinna–Pick problems for maps from the disk to the spectral ball, it is often useful to project the map to the symmetrized polydisc (for instance to obtain continuity results for the Lempert function): if \(\Phi \in {\mathrm {Hol}}(\mathbb {D}, \Omega _n)\), then \(\pi \circ \Phi \in {\mathrm {Hol}}(\mathbb {D}, {{\mathbb {G}}}_n)\). Given a map \(\varphi \in {\mathrm {Hol}}(\mathbb {D}, {{\mathbb {G}}}_n)\), we are looking for necessary and sufficient conditions for this map to “lift through given matrices”, i.e. find \(\Phi \) as above so that \(\pi \circ \Phi = \varphi \) and \(\Phi (\alpha _j) = A_j\), \(1\le j \le N\). A natural necessary condition is \(\varphi (\alpha _j)=\pi (A_j)\), \(1\le j \le N\). When the matrices \(A_j\) are derogatory (i.e. do not admit a cyclic vector) new necessary conditions appear, involving derivatives of \(\varphi \) at the points \(\alpha _j\). We prove that those conditions are necessary and sufficient for a local lifting. We give a formula which performs the global lifting in small dimensions (\(n \le 5\)), and a counter-example to show that the formula fails in dimensions 6 and above.  相似文献

We investigate quantitative properties of nonnegative solutions \(u(x)\ge 0\) to the semilinear diffusion equation \(\mathcal {L}u= f(u)\), posed in a bounded domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb {R}^N\) with appropriate homogeneous Dirichlet or outer boundary conditions. The operator \(\mathcal {L}\) may belong to a quite general class of linear operators that include the standard Laplacian, the two most common definitions of the fractional Laplacian \((-\Delta )^s\) (\(0<s<1\)) in a bounded domain with zero Dirichlet conditions, and a number of other nonlocal versions. The nonlinearity f is increasing and looks like a power function \(f(u)\sim u^p\), with \(p\le 1\). The aim of this paper is to show sharp quantitative boundary estimates based on a new iteration process. We also prove that, in the interior, solutions are Hölder continuous and even classical (when the operator allows for it). In addition, we get Hölder continuity up to the boundary. Particularly interesting is the behaviour of solution when the number \(\frac{2s}{1-p}\) goes below the exponent \(\gamma \in (0,1]\) corresponding to the Hölder regularity of the first eigenfunction \(\mathcal {L}\Phi _1=\lambda _1 \Phi _1\). Indeed a change of boundary regularity happens in the different regimes \(\frac{2s}{1-p} \gtreqqless \gamma \), and in particular a logarithmic correction appears in the “critical” case \(\frac{2s}{1-p} = \gamma \). For instance, in the case of the spectral fractional Laplacian, this surprising boundary behaviour appears in the range \(0<s\le (1-p)/2\).  相似文献

In this paper, we expand the study of the multiplication operators on the Lipschitz space of a tree begun in Colonna and Easley (Integral Equ Oper Theory 68:391–411, 2010) by focusing on their adjoint acting on a certain separable subspace of the Lipschitz space whose dual is isometrically isomorphic to \(\mathbf L^1\). We then study the properties of two useful operators \(\nabla \) and \(\Delta \) and use them (along with the multiplicative symbol \(\psi \)) to define the Toeplitz operator \(T_\psi \) on the space \(\mathbf L^p\) for \(1\le p \le \infty \). We give conditions for its boundedness and study its point spectrum.  相似文献

Let Q be a quasigroup. For \(\alpha ,\beta \in S_Q\) let \(Q_{\alpha ,\beta }\) be the principal isotope \(x*y = \alpha (x)\beta (y)\). Put \(\mathbf a(Q)= |\{(x,y,z)\in Q^3;\) \(x(yz)) = (xy)z\}|\) and assume that \(|Q|=n\). Then \(\sum _{\alpha ,\beta }\mathbf a(Q_{\alpha ,\beta })/(n!)^2 = n^2(1+(n-1)^{-1})\), and for every \(\alpha \in S_Q\) there is \(\sum _\beta \mathbf a(Q_{\alpha ,\beta })/n! = n(n-1)^{-1}\sum _x(f_x^2-2f_x+n)\ge n^2\), where \(f_x=|\{y\in Q;\) \( y = \alpha (y)x\}|\). If G is a group and \(\alpha \) is an orthomorphism, then \(\mathbf a(G_{\alpha ,\beta })=n^2\) for every \(\beta \in S_Q\). A detailed case study of \(\mathbf a(G_{\alpha ,\beta })\) is made for the situation when \(G = \mathbb Z_{2d}\), and both \(\alpha \) and \(\beta \) are “natural” near-orthomorphisms. Asymptotically, \(\mathbf a(G_{\alpha ,\beta })>3n\) if G is an abelian group of order n. Computational results: \(\mathbf a(7) = 17\) and \(\mathbf a(8) \le 21\), where \(\mathbf a(n) = \min \{\mathbf a(Q);\) \( |Q|=n\}\). There are also determined minimum values for \(\mathbf a(G_{\alpha ,\beta })\), G a group of order \(\le 8\).  相似文献

The Stieltjes constants \(\gamma _k(a)\) appear as the coefficients in the regular part of the Laurent expansion of the Hurwitz zeta function \(\zeta (s,a)\) about \(s=1\). We present the evaluation of \(\gamma _1(a)\) and \(\gamma _2(a)\) at rational arguments, this being of interest to theoretical and computational analytic number theory and elsewhere. We give multiplication formulas for \(\gamma _0(a)\), \(\gamma _1(a)\), and \(\gamma _2(a)\), and point out that these formulas are cases of an addition formula previously presented. We present certain integral evaluations generalizing Gauss’ formula for the digamma function at rational argument. In addition, we give the asymptotic form of \(\gamma _k(a)\) as \(a \rightarrow 0\) as well as a novel technique for evaluating integrals with integrands with \(\ln (-\ln x)\) and rational factors.  相似文献

Assume \(\lambda \) is a singular limit of \(\eta \) supercompact cardinals, where \(\eta \le \lambda \) is a limit ordinal. We present two methods for arranging the tree property to hold at \(\lambda ^{+}\) while making \(\lambda ^{+}\) the successor of the limit of the first \(\eta \) measurable cardinals. The first method is then used to get, from the same assumptions, the tree property at \(\aleph _{\eta ^2+1}\) with the failure of SCH at \(\aleph _{\eta ^2}\). This extends results of Neeman and Sinapova. The second method is also used to get the tree property at the successor of an arbitrary singular cardinal, which extends some results of Magidor–Shelah, Neeman and Sinapova.  相似文献

We consider the model space \(\mathbb {M}^{n}_{K}\) of constant curvature K and dimension \(n\ge 1\) (Euclidean space for \(K=0\), sphere for \(K>0\) and hyperbolic space for \(K<0\)), and we show that given a function \(\rho :[0,\infty )\rightarrow [0, \infty )\) with \(\rho (0)=\mathrm {dist}(x,y)\) there exists a coadapted coupling (X(t), Y(t)) of Brownian motions on \(\mathbb {M}^{n}_{K}\) starting at (xy) such that \(\rho (t)=\mathrm {dist}(X(t),Y(t))\) for every \(t\ge 0\) if and only if \(\rho \) is continuous and satisfies for almost every \(t\ge 0\) the differential inequality
$$\begin{aligned} -(n-1)\sqrt{K}\tan \left( \tfrac{\sqrt{K}\rho (t)}{2}\right) \le \rho '(t)\le -(n-1)\sqrt{K}\tan \left( \tfrac{\sqrt{K}\rho (t)}{2}\right) +\tfrac{2(n-1)\sqrt{K}}{\sin (\sqrt{K}\rho (t))}. \end{aligned}$$
In other words, we characterize all coadapted couplings of Brownian motions on the model space \(\mathbb {M}^{n}_{K}\) for which the distance between the processes is deterministic. In addition, the construction of the coupling is explicit for every choice of \(\rho \) satisfying the above hypotheses.

We prove that \(\text {Bl}_{\mathbb {P}^1} \mathbb {P}^n\) is slope unstable with respect to any polarisation, and hence, it does not admit constant scalar curvature Kähler metrics in any rational Kähler class.  相似文献

Two novel characterizations of self-decomposable Bernstein functions are provided. The first one is purely analytic, stating that a function \(\varPsi \) is the Bernstein function of a self-decomposable probability law \(\pi \) on the positive half-axis if and only if alternating sums of \(\varPsi \) satisfy certain monotonicity conditions. The second characterization is of probabilistic nature, showing that \(\varPsi \) is a self-decomposable Bernstein function if and only if a related d-variate function \(C_{\psi ,d}\), \(\psi :=\exp (-\varPsi )\), is a d-variate copula for each \(d \ge 2\). A canonical stochastic construction is presented, in which \(\pi \) (respectively \(\varPsi \)) determines the probability law of an exchangeable sequence of random variables \(\{U_k\}_{k\in {\mathbb {N}}}\) such that \((U_1,\ldots ,U_d) \sim C_{\psi ,d}\) for each \(d \ge 2\). The random variables \(\{U_k\}_{k\in {\mathbb {N}}},\) are i.i.d. conditioned on an increasing Sato process whose law is characterized by \(\varPsi \). The probability law of \(\{U_k\}_{k \in {\mathbb {N}}}\) is studied in quite some detail.  相似文献
