Summary: A novel approach of in situ polymerization and in situ compatibilization was adopted to prepare poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide) (PPO) and polyamide 6 (PA6) nanoblends. Anionic ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactam was carried out in the presence of PPO, the chain of which bore p‐methoxyphenylpropionate (MPAA), acting as macroactivator to initiate PA6 chain growth from the PPO chain and form a graft copolymer of PPO and PA6 and pure PA6 simultaneously. The nanostructured PA6 dispersed phase in the PPO matrix could be achieved.

A new class of thermosetting poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide)s containing pendant epoxide groups were synthesized and characterized. These new epoxy polymers were prepared through the bromination of poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide) in halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons followed by a Wittig reaction to yield vinyl‐substituted polymer derivatives. The treatment of the vinyl‐substituted polymers with m‐chloroperbenzoic acid led to the formation of epoxidized poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide) with variable pendant ratios, and the structures and properties were studied with nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and gel permeation chromatography. The ratios of pendant functional groups were tailored for the polymer properties, and the results showed that the glass‐transition temperatures increased as the benzylic protons were replaced by bromo‐, vinyl‐, or epoxide‐functional groups, whereas the thermal stability decreased in comparison with the original polymer. Within a molar fraction of 20–50%, the degree of functionalization had little effect on the glass‐transition temperature; however, it correlated inversely with the thermal stability of each functionalized polymer. The thermal curing behavior of the epoxide‐functionalized polymer was enhanced by the increment of the pendant functionality, which resulted in a significant increase in the glass‐transition temperature as well as the thermal stability after the curing reaction. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(2‐benzoyl‐1,4‐phenylene) (PBP) and poly(2,5‐dibenzoyl‐1,4‐phenylene) (PDBP) were synthesized by coupling polymerization using a Ni catalyst of 2,5‐dichlorobenzophenone and 2,5‐dichloro‐1,4‐dibenzophenone, respectively. These polymers are soluble in common organic solvents, have high thermal stability and show bright blue photoluminescence. Light‐emitting diodes fabricated with these polymers as the active layer emit blue electroluminescence with wavelength at 433 nm for PBP and 475 nm for PDBP. “Radical‐controlled” oxidative polymerization of phenol (p‐1) by (1,4,7‐triisopropyl‐1,4,7‐triazacyclononane)copper(II) catalyst was performed and compared with that of 4‐phenoxyphenol (p‐2) in detail. Although the coupling selectivity for p‐1 seemed to be controlled by the catalyst, the C? C coupling, which was excluded completely for p‐2, occurred to some extent. The initial reaction rate of p‐1 was much smaller than that of p‐2, leading to the difference of polymerization behavior between p‐1 and p‐2. The rate‐determining step would be the coupling of controlled radicals species from the ESR measurement of the reaction mixture. The polymer resulting from p‐1 consisted mainly of phenylene oxide units, but had no crystallinity in contrast to the crystalline polymer from p‐2. However, the present polymer showed the highest thermal stability in the polymers obtained by oxidative polymerization of p‐1. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Sodium salts of water‐soluble polymers poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(hexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P1 ), poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(dodecyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P2 ), poly{[2,5‐bis(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]‐alt‐[2,5‐bis(dibenzyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} ( P3 ), poly[2‐hexyloxy‐5‐(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene] ( P4 ), and poly[2‐dodecyloxy‐5‐(3‐sulfonatopropoxy)‐1,4‐phenylene] ( P5 )] were synthesized with Suzuki coupling reactions and fully characterized. The first group of polymers ( P1 – P3 ) with symmetric structures gave lower absorption maxima [maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) = 296–305 nm] and emission maxima [maximum emission wavelength (λem) = 361–398 nm] than asymmetric polymers P4 (λmax = 329 nm, λem = 399 nm) and P5 (λmax = 335 nm, λem = 401 nm). The aggregation properties of polymers P1 – P5 in different solvent mixtures were investigated, and their influence on the optical properties was examined in detail. Dynamic light scattering studies of the aggregation behavior of polymer P1 in solvents indicated the presence of aggregated species of various sizes ranging from 80 to 800 nm. The presence of alkoxy groups and 3‐sulfonatopropoxy groups on adjacent phenylene rings along the polymer backbone of the first set hindered the optimization of nonpolar interactions. The alkyl chain crystallization on one side of the polymer chain and the polar interactions on the other side allowed the polymers ( P4 and P5 ) to form a lamellar structure in the polymer lattice. Significant quenching of the polymer fluorescence upon the addition of positively charged viologen derivatives or cytochrome‐C was also observed. The quenching effect on the polymer fluorescence confirmed that the newly synthesized polymers could be used in the fabrication of biological and chemical sensors. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Various effects on the coupling selectivity of the oxidative polymerization of 4‐phenoxyphenol catalyzed by (1,4,7‐triisopropyl‐1,4,7‐triazacyclononane)copper(II) halogeno complex [Cu(tacn)X2] are described. With respect to the amount of the catalyst and the nature of the halide ion (X) of Cu(tacn)X2, the coupling selectivity hardly changed. The Cu(tacn) catalyst possessed a turnover number greater than 1860. As the temperature of the reaction and the polarity of the reaction solvent were elevated, the C O coupling at the o‐position increased, but the C C coupling was not involved. For the polymerization in toluene at 80 °C, poly(1,4‐phenylene oxide), obtained as a methanol‐insoluble part, showed the highest number‐average molecular weight of 4000 with a melting point (Tm) of 195 °C. Only a slight change in the coupling selectivity was observed in the presence or absence of hindered amines as the base. Surprisingly, however, the C O selectivity decreased from 100 to 24% with less hindered amines, indicating that the selectivity drastically changed from a preference for C O coupling to a preference for C C coupling. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Soluble yellow/orange‐emitting poly[tris(2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(1,3‐phenylenevinylene)] derivatives ( 6 ) were synthesized and characterized. These polymers contained oligo(p‐phenylene vinylene) chromophores of equal conjugation length, which were jointed via a common m‐phenylene unit. An optical comparison of 6 and its model compound ( 8 ) at room temperature and low temperatures revealed the similarity in their absorption and fluorescence band structures. The vibronic band structure of 6 was assigned with the aid of the spectroscopic data for 8 at the low temperatures. 6 was electroluminescent and had an emission maximum wavelength at approximately 565 nm. With the device indium tin oxide/PEDOT/ 6 /Ca configuration, the polymer exhibited an external quantum efficiency as high as 0.25%. Simple substitution on m‐phenylene of 6 raised the electroluminescence output by a factor of about 10. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5853–5862, 2004  相似文献

The new blue light polymer, poly(1′,4′‐phenylene‐1″,4″‐[2″‐(2″″‐ethylhexyloxy)]phenylene‐1‴,4‴‐phenylene‐2,5‐oxadiazolyl) (PPEPPO) was synthesized through the Suzuki reaction of diboronic acid, 2‐methoxy‐[5‐(2′‐ethylhexyl)oxy]‐1,4‐benzene diboronic acid (MEHBBA) and dibromide, 2,5‐bis(4′‐bromophenyl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole. This polymer was characterized with various spectroscopic methods. The solid PL spectrum of PPEPPO has a maximum peak at 444 nm corresponding to blue light. Blue LED has been fabricated using this polymer as the electroluminescent layer, ITO as the anode, and aluminum as cathode. This device emitted a blue light, with 40 V of turn‐on voltage. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 3086–3091, 2000  相似文献

Morphosynthesis of poly[4‐(1,4‐phenylene)oxyphthalimide] (POPI) and poly[4‐(1,4‐phenylene)oxyphthalimide‐co‐4‐phthalimide] (POPI‐PPI) was examined by using the crystallization during the polymerization. The POPI fibrillar crystals were obtained as precipitates with the formation of spherical aggregates of plate‐like crystals. Some of the POPI fibrillar crystals were longer than 15 μm. They possessed high crystallinity and the molecules aligned perpendicular to the long direction of the fibers. On the other hand, one‐dimensional structures of POPI‐PPI such as ribbon, cone, rod, and fiber were obtained as precipitates by the copolymerization. The copolymer molecules might align along the long direction of the cone‐like crystals. The morphology of these poly(ether‐imide)s could be controlled by not only the polymerization condition but also with the aid of copolymerization. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation of poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene ether)‐b‐poly(ethylene terephthalate) block copolymer was performed by the reaction of the 2‐hydroxyethyl modified poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene ether) (PPE‐EtOH) with poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) by an in situ process, during the synthesis of the polyester. The yield of the reaction of the 2‐hydroxyethyl functionalized PPE‐EtOH with PET was close to 100%. A significant proportion of the PET‐b‐PPE‐EtOH block copolymer was found to have short PET block. Nevertheless, the copolymer structured in the shape of micelles (20 nm diameter) and very small domains with 50–200 nm diameter, whereas unmodified PPE formed much larger domains (1.5 μm) containing copolymer. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined trifluoromethylated poly(phenylene oxide)s were synthesized via nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction by a chain‐growth polymerization manner. Polymerization of potassium 4‐fluoro‐3‐(trifluoromethyl)phenolate in the presence of an appropriate initiator yielded polymers with molecular weights of ~4000 and polydispersity indices of <1.2, which were characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. Initiating sites for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) were introduced at the either side of chain ends of the poly(phenylene oxide), and used for ATRP of styrene and methyl methacrylate, yielding well‐defined rod‐coil block copolymers. Differential scanning calorimetry study indicated that the well‐defined trifluoromethylated poly(phenylene oxide)s showed high crystallinity and were immiscible with polystyrene. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Several 3,3′‐(1,4‐phenylene)bis(1,5‐diones) and their chalcone precursors have been prepared in good to excellent yield via aldol addition and Michael addition starting from 3‐acetyl‐2,5‐dimethylfuran or 3‐acetyl‐2,5‐dimethyl‐thiophene with terephthalaldehyde in the presence of appropriate base NaOH or lithium diisopropylamide. The kind and amount of alkali played a critical role in improving the reaction rates and yields of the products. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2011).  相似文献

The polymerization of bis(4‐ethynylphenyl)methylsilane catalyzed by RhI(PPh3)3 afforded a regio‐ and stereoregular hyperbranched polymer, hb‐poly[(methylsilylene)bis(1,4‐phenylene‐trans‐vinylene)] (poly( 1 )), containing 95% trans‐vinylene moieties. The weight loss of this polymer at 900°C in N2 was 9%. Poly( 1 ) displayed an absorption due to π‐π* transition around 275 nm as a shoulder and a weak absorption around 330 nm due to π‐to‐σ charge transfer, which was hardly seen in the corresponding linear polymer.  相似文献

Green‐emitting substituted poly[(2‐hexyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)]s ( 6 ) were synthesized via the Wittig–Horner reaction. The polymers were yellow resins with molecular weights of 10,600. The ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption of 6 (λmax = 332 or 415 nm) was about 30 nm redshifted from that of poly[(2‐hexyloxy‐5‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(1,4‐phenylenevinylene)] ( 2 ) but was only 5 nm redshifted with respect to that of poly[(1,3‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)] ( 1 ). A comparison of the optical properties of 1 , 2 , and 6 showed that substitution on m‐ or p‐phenylene could slightly affect their energy gap and luminescence efficiency, thereby fine‐tuning the optical properties of the poly[(m‐phenylene vinylene)‐alt‐(p‐phenylene vinylene)] materials. The vibronic structures were assigned with the aid of low‐temperature UV–vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. Light‐emitting‐diode devices with 6 produced a green electroluminescence output (emission λmax ~ 533 nm) with an external quantum efficiency of 0.32%. Substitution at m‐phenylene appeared to be effective in perturbing the charge‐injection process in LED devices. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Factors affecting the syntheses of high‐molecular‐weight poly(2,5‐dialkyl‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene) by the acyclic diene metathesis polymerization of 2,5‐dialkyl‐1,4‐divinylbenzenes [alkyl = n‐octyl ( 2 ) and 2‐ethylhexyl ( 3 )] with a molybdenum or ruthenium catalyst were explored. The polymerizations of 2 by Mo(N‐2,6‐Me2C6H3) (CHMe2 Ph)[OCMe(CF3)2]2 at 25 °C was completed with both a high initial monomer concentration and reduced pressure, affording poly(p‐phenylene vinylene)s with low polydispersity index values (number‐average molecular weight = 3.3–3.65 × 103 by gel permeation chromatography vs polystyrene standards, weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.1–1.2), but the polymerization of 3 was not completed under the same conditions. The synthesis of structurally regular (all‐trans), defect‐free, high‐molecular‐weight 2‐ethylhexyl substituted poly(p‐phenylene vinylene)s [poly 3 ; degree of monomer repeating unit (DPn) = ca. 16–70 by 1H NMR] with unimodal molecular weight distributions (number‐average molecular weight = 8.30–36.3 × 103 by gel permeation chromatography, weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.6–2.1) and with defined polymer chain ends (as a vinyl group, ? CH?CH2) was achieved when Ru(CHPh)(Cl)2(IMesH2)(PCy3) or Ru(CH‐2‐OiPr‐C6H4)(Cl)2(IMesH2) [IMesH2 = 1,3‐bis(2,4,6‐trimethylphenyl)‐2‐imidazolidinylidene] was employed as a catalyst at 50 °C. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The long wavelength UV photochemistry was investigated of a model compound for poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide). Irradiation of the phenyl‐capped dimer of 2,6‐dimethyl phenol at wavelengths >290 nm with UVA‐340 fluorescent lamps in the absence of oxygen gave no detectable products after 27 days. Very low conversion to oxidation products was found in the presence of oxygen, but about 20% conversion to products in which solvent had added to the benzylic methyl groups occurred under aerobic conditions when the solvents had readily abstractable hydrogen atoms. A mechanism is proposed involving the facile, reversible abstraction of a benzylic hydrogen by oxygen as a first step in the oxidation. The hydroperoxyl radical that is formed can abstract hydrogen atoms from 2° and 3° carbons of the solvent, and these radicals can combine with the benzylic radicals to give the solvent adducts. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel synthetic method for soluble precursor polymers of poly(p‐phenylene vinylene) (PPV) derivatives by the palladium‐catalyzed three‐component coupling polycondensation of aromatic diiodides, aromatic bis(boronic acid) derivatives, and norbornadiene is described. For example, the polymerization of 1,4‐diiodo‐2,5‐dioctyloxybenzene, benzene‐1,4‐bis(boronic acid propanediol ester), and norbornadiene at 100 °C for 3 days provided a polymer consisting of the three monomer units in a 97% yield (number‐average molecular weight = 3100, weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.37). A derivative of PPV was produced smoothly by the retro Diels–Alder reaction of the polymer both in a dodecyloxybenzene solution and in a film at 200 °C in vacuo. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary: Isothermal crystallization of an oriented blend of isotactic polystyrene (iPS) with poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide) (PPO) was studied by in situ polarized FT‐IR spectroscopy and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction. The structural organization during the oriented crystallization consists of three stages. The first stage is the orientation relaxation of molecular chains of iPS and PPO, the degree of orientation of iPS increases in the second stage, and the oriented chains of iPS crystallize in the third stage.

Summary: Based on Flory–Huggins parameters (χ), the miscibility and the effect of morphological change on proton conductivity and methanol permeability of partially sulfonated polystyrene (SPS) and partially sulfonated poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene oxide) (SPPO), having an identical ion exchange capacity, were investigated. When 50 wt.‐% of SPPO was blended, both the proton conductivity and methanol permeability had the highest values, which resulted from the change of amorphous domains and the hydrogen bonding between the two ionomers.

The proton conductivities, water uptake and methanol permeability for the SPPO/SPS blend membranes studied here. The membranes with 50 wt.‐% SPPO clearly showed the greatest increase in these properties.  相似文献

Poly{bis(4,4′‐tert‐butyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine)–(2,2′‐bipyridine‐5,5′‐diyl‐[1,4‐phenylene])–ruthenium(II)bishexafluorophosphate} ( 3a ), poly{bis(4,4′‐tert‐butyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine)–(2,2′‐bipyridine‐4,4′‐diyl‐[1,4‐phenylene])–ruthenium(II)bishexafluorophosphate} ( 3b ), and poly{bis(2,2′‐bipyridine)–(2,2′‐bipyridine‐5,5′‐diyl‐[1,4‐phenylene])–ruthenium(II)bishexafluorophosphate} ( 3c ) were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction. The alternating structure of the copolymers was confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR and elemental analysis. The polymers showed, by ultraviolet–visible, the π–π* absorption of the polymer backbone (320–380 nm) and at a lower energy attributed to the d–π* metal‐to‐ligand charge‐transfer absorption (450 nm for linear 3a and 480 nm for angular 3b ). The polymers were characterized by a monomodal molecular weight distribution. The degree of polymerization was approximately 8 for polymer 3b and 28 for polymer 3d . © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
