This paper deals with the unsteady axisymmetric flow and heat transfer of a viscous fluid over a radially stretching sheet. The heat is prescribed at the surface. The modelled non-linear partial differential equations are solved using an analytic approach namely the homotopy analysis method. Unlike perturbation technique, this approach gives accurate analytic approximation uniformly valid for all dimensionless time. The explicit expressions for velocity, temperature and skin friction coefficient are developed. The influence of time on the velocity, temperature and skin friction coefficient is discussed.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to describe mixed convection heat transfer in the boundary layers on an exponentially stretching continuous surface with an exponential temperature distribution in the presence of magnetic field, viscous dissipation and internal heat generation/absorption. Approximate analytical similarity solutions of the highly non-linear momentum and energy equations are obtained. The present results are found to be in excellent agreement with previously published work on various special cases of the problem. Numerical results for temperature distribution and the local Nusselt number have been obtained for different values of the governing parameters. The numerical solutions are obtained by considering an exponential dependent stretching velocity and prescribed boundary temperature on the flow directional coordinate. The effects of various physical parameters like Prandtl number, Hartman number, Grashof number on dimensionless heat transfer characteristics are discussed in detail. In particular, it has been found that increase in Prandtl number decreases the skin-friction coefficient at the stretching surface, while increase in the strength of the magnetic field leads to increase in the local Nusselt number.  相似文献

An analysis has been carried out to study the momentum and heat transfer characteristics in an incompressible electrically conducting non-Newtonian boundary layer flow of a viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet. The partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer characteristics are converted into highly non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations by similarity transformations. The effect of variable fluid viscosity, Magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, variable thermal conductivity, heat source/sink parameter and thermal radiation parameter are analyzed for velocity, temperature fields, and wall temperature gradient. The resultant coupled highly non-linear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically by employing a shooting technique with fourth order Runge–Kutta integration scheme. The fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity, respectively, assumed to vary as an inverse and linear function of temperature. The analysis reveals that the wall temperature profile decreases significantly due to increase in magnetic field parameter. Further, it is noticed that the skin friction of the sheet decreases due to increase in the Magnetic parameter of the flow characteristics.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of unsteady laminar two-dimensional boundary layer flow and heat transfer of an incompressible viscous fluid in the presence of thermal radiation, internal heat generation or absorption, and magnetic field over an exponentially stretching surface subjected to suction with an exponential temperature distribution is discussed numerically. The governing boundary layer equations are reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations. New numerical method using Mathematica has been used to solve such system after obtaining the missed initial conditions. Comparison of obtained numerical results is made with previously published results in some special cases, and found to be in a good agreement.  相似文献

Stagnation slip flow and heat transfer characteristics of a viscous fluid over a nonlinear stretching surface has been investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The analytical solution of the nonlinear system is obtained in series form using the very efficient homotopy analysis method (HAM). Convergence of the series solution is shown explicitly. Important features of flow and heat transfer characteristics are plotted and discussed. Comparison is made with existing numerical results when the stagnation‐point and slip effects are excluded. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2011  相似文献

The steady laminar boundary layer flow over a permeable flat plate in a uniform free stream, with the bottom surface of the plate is heated by convection from a hot fluid is considered. Similarity solutions for the flow and thermal fields are possible if the mass transpiration rate at the surface and the convective heat transfer from the hot fluid on the lower surface of the plate vary like x−1/2, where x is the distance from the leading edge of the solid surface. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into ordinary differential equations, before being solved numerically. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow and thermal fields are thoroughly examined and discussed.  相似文献

Steady, laminar boundary fluid flow which results from the non-linear stretching of a flat surface in a nanofluid has been investigated numerically. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The resulting non-linear governing equations with associated boundary conditions are solved using variational finite element method (FEM) with a local non-similar transformation. The influence of Brownian motion number (Nb), thermophoresis number (Nt), stretching parameter (n) and Lewis number (Le) on the temperature and nanoparticle concentration profiles are shown graphically. The impact of physical parameters on rate of heat transfer (−θ′(0)) and mass transfer (−?′(0)) is shown in tabulated form. Some of results have also been compared with explicit finite difference method (FDM). Excellent validation of the present numerical results has been achieved with the earlier nonlinearly stretching sheet problem of Cortell [16] for local Nusselt number without taking the effect of Brownian motion and thermophoresis.  相似文献

In the present paper, we study the boundary layer flow of viscous incompressible fluid over an inclined stretching sheet with body force and heat transfer. Considering the stream function, we convert the boundary layer equation into nonlinear third-order ordinary differential equation together with appropriate boundary conditions in an infinite domain. The nonlinear boundary value problem has been linearized by using the quasilinearization technique. Then, we develop a nonpolynomial spline method, which is used to solve the flow problem. The convergence analysis of the method is also discussed. We study the velocity function for different angles of inclination and Froude number with the help of various graphs and tables. Then using these in heat convection flow, we obtain the expression for temperature field. Skin friction is also calculated. The various results have been given in tables. At last, we calculated the Nusselt number.  相似文献

The effect of radiation on MHD steady asymmetric flow of an electrically conducting fluid past a stretching porous sheet in the presence of radiation has been analyzed. Exact solutions for the velocity and temperature fields have been derived and the effects of radiation, magnetic, Prandtl number, wall temperature and suction (or injection) parameters have been studied with the help of graphs.  相似文献

A numerical model is presented to study the effects of temperature-dependent viscosity and variable thermal conductivity on mixed convection problem. Two important types of wall heating conditions namely, prescribed surface temperature and prescribed wall heat flux which arise in polymer industries are considered. The problem is solved numerically by using the fifth-order Runge–Kutta Fehlberg method with shooting technique. It is found that the Prandtl number is to decrease the skin friction coefficient, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number. The effects of non-uniform heat source/sink and porous parameter are analyzed on velocity, temperature, skin friction co-efficient, Nusselt and Sherwood numbers.  相似文献

This paper investigates the nonlinear boundary value problem, resulting from the exact reduction of the Navier–Stokes equations for unsteady laminar boundary layer flow caused by a stretching surface in a quiescent viscous incompressible fluid. We prove existence of solutions for all values of the relevant parameters and provide unique results in the case of a monotonic solution. The results are obtained using a topological shooting argument, which varies a parameter related to the axial shear stress. To solve this equation, a numerical method is proposed based on a rational Chebyshev functions spectral method. Using the operational matrices of derivative, we reduced the problem to a set of algebraic equations. We also compare this work with some other numerical results and present a solution that proves to be highly accurate. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This work is aimed at describing the heat transfer on the peristaltic motion in a porous space. An incompressible and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) viscous fluid is taken in an asymmetrical channel. Expressions of dimensionless stream function and temperature are obtained analytically by employing long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions. The influence of various parameters of interest is seen through graphs on pumping and trapping phenomena and temperature profile.  相似文献

This investigation reports the three-dimensional flow of Jeffrey fluid over a linearly stretching surface. Transformation method has been utilized for the reduction of partial differential equations into the ordinary differential equations. The solutions of the nonlinear systems are presented by a homotopy analysis method (HAM). The reported graphical results are analyzed. A comparative study with the previous results of viscous fluid in the literature is made.  相似文献

Of concern in this paper is an investigation of biomagnetic flow of a non-Newtonian viscoelastic fluid over a stretching sheet under the influence of an applied magnetic field generated owing to the presence of a magnetic dipole. The viscoelasticity of the fluid is characterised by Walter’s B fluid model. The applied magnetic field has been considered to be sufficiently strong to saturate the ferrofluid. The magnetization of the fluid is considered to vary linearly with temperature as well as the magnetic field intensity. The theoretical treatment of the physical problem consists of reducing it to solving a system of non-linear coupled differential equations that involve six parameters, which are solved by developing a finite difference technique. The velocity profile, the skin-friction, the wall pressure and the rate of heat transfer at the sheet are computed for a specific situation. The study shows that the fluid velocity increases as the rate of heat transfer decreases, while the local skin-friction and the wall pressure increase as the magnetic field strength is increased. It is also revealed that fluid viscoelasticity has an enhancing effect on the local skin-friction. The study will have an important bearing on magnetic drug targeting and separation of red cells as well as on the control of blood flow during surgery.  相似文献

In order to verify the reasonableness of off-gas pressure and wall temperature, a mathematical model for gas flow and heat transfer in ladle furnace (LF) lid is developed based on 3-D Navier–Stokes equations and kε two equation turbulent models as well as energy conservation equation. The gas velocity vector distribution of skirt clearance between the top edge of ladle and furnace lid and electrode gaps between three graphite electrodes and furnace lid, the gas flow line distribution, pressure and temperature distribution on the furnace lid wall are simulated. Simulation results show that appropriate off-gas pressures are 200 Pa, 200 Pa and 150 Pa when electric arc emerges from molten steel surface and alloy hole is unsealed, electric arc emerges from molten steel surface and alloy hole is closure, electric arc immerges into molten steel surface and alloy hole is closure, respectively. The maximum temperature presents in the middle of LF lid in all of heating conditions, and the temperature value are 563, 603 and 343 K. Finally, the relations between gas volume and off-gas pressure are analyzed in different width of skirt clearance, and some relevant mathematical expressions are obtained. By comparing both simulation results and practical data, the advice on reducing off-gas pressure is proposed, and the maximum temperatures of furnace lid wall have good agreement with actual data.  相似文献

A thin viscous liquid film flow is developed over a stretching sheet under different nonlinear stretching velocities. An evolution equation for the film thickness, is derived using long-wave approximation of thin liquid film and is solved numerically by using the Newton–Kantorovich method. A comparison is made with the analytic solution obtained in [B. S. Dandapat, A. Kitamura, B. Santra, “Transient film profile of thin liquid film flow on a stretching surface”, ZAMP, 57, 623-635 (2006)]. It is observed that all types of stretching produce film thinning but non-monotonic stretching produces faster thinning at small distance from the origin. The velocity u along the stretching direction strongly depends on the distance along the stretching direction and the Froude number.  相似文献

The steady flow of an incompressible viscous non-Newtonian fluid above an infinite rotating porous disk in a porous medium is studied with heat transfer. A uniform injection or suction is applied through the surface of the disk. Numerical solutions of the non-linear differential equations which govern the hydrodynamics and energy transfer are obtained. The effect of the porosity of the medium, the characteristics of the non-Newtonian fluid and the suction or injection velocity on the velocity and temperature distributions is considered. The inclusion of the three effects, the porosity, the non-Newtonian characteristics, and the suction or injection velocity together has shown some interesting effects.  相似文献

Maximum flow problems occur in a wide range of applications. Although already well studied, they are still an area of active research. The fastest available implementations for determining maximum flows in graphs are either based on augmenting path or on push-relabel algorithms. In this work, we present two ingredients that, appropriately used, can considerably speed up these methods. On the theoretical side, we present flow-conserving conditions under which subgraphs can be contracted to a single vertex. These rules are in the same spirit as presented by Padberg and Rinaldi (1990) [12] for the minimum cut problem in graphs. These rules allow the reduction of known worst-case instances for different maximum flow algorithms to equivalent trivial instances. On the practical side, we propose a two-step max-flow algorithm for solving the problem on instances coming from physics and computer vision. In the two-step algorithm, flow is first sent along augmenting paths of restricted lengths only. Starting from this flow, the problem is then solved to optimality using some known max-flow methods. By extensive experiments on instances coming from applications in theoretical physics and computer vision, we show that a suitable combination of the proposed techniques speeds up traditionally used methods.  相似文献

Our aim in this article is to investigate numerically the unsteady two‐dimensional mixed convection flow along a vertical semi‐infinite stretching sheet in a parallel free stream with a power‐law wall temperature and concentration distributions of the form T w (x) = T + Ax2m?1 and Cw (x) = C + Bx2m?1, where A, B and m are constants. The unsteadiness in the flow is caused by the time dependent stretching sheet as well as by the free stream velocity. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations in the velocity, temperature and concentration fields are written in nondimensional form using suitable transformations. The final set of resulting coupled nonlinear partial differential equations is solved using an implicit finite‐difference scheme in combination with a quasi‐linearization technique. The effects of various governing parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles as well as on the skin friction coefficient, local Nusseltnumber and local Sherwood number are presented and discussed in details. The computed numerically results are compared with previously reported work and are found to be in excellent agreement. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
