Static longitudinal electric dipole (hyper)polarizabilities are calculated for six medium‐sized π‐conjugated organic molecules using recently developed LPol‐n basis set family to assess their performance. Dunning's correlation‐consistent basis sets of triple‐ζ quality combined with MP2 method and supported by CCSD(T)/aug‐cc‐pVDZ results are used to obtain the reference values of analyzed properties. The same reference is used to analyze (hyper)polarizabilities predicted by selected exchange‐correlation functionals, particularly those asymptotically corrected. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The intermolecular potential energy surface (PES) of argon with ethane has been studied by ab initio calculations at the levels of second‐order Møller–Plesset perturbation (MP2) theory and coupled‐cluster theory with single, double, and noniterative triple configurations (CCSD(T)) using a series of augmented correlation‐consistent basis sets. Two sets of bond functions, bf1 (3s3p2d) and bf2 (6s6p4d2f), have been added to the basis sets to show a dramatic and systematic improvement in the convergence of the entire PES. The PES of Ar–ethane is characterized by a global minimum at a near T‐shaped configuration with a well depth of 0.611 kcal mol?1, a second minimum at a collinear configuration with a well depth of 0.456 kcal mol?1, and a saddle point connecting the two minima. It is shown that an augmented correlation‐consistent basis set with a set of bond functions, either bf1 or bf2, can effectively produce results equivalent to the next larger augmented correlation‐consistent basis set, that is, aug‐cc‐pVDZ‐bf1 ≈ aug‐cc‐pVTZ, aug‐cc‐pVTZ‐bf1 ≈ aug‐cc‐pVQZ. Very importantly, the use of bond functions improves the PES globally, resulting accurate potential anisotropy. Finally, MP2 method is inadequate for accurate calculations, because it gives a potentially overestimated well depth and, more seriously, a poor potential anisotropy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We seek correlation-consistent diffuse-augmented double-zeta and triple-zeta basis sets that perform optimally in extrapolating the correlation energy to the one-electron complete basis set limit, denoted oAVXZ and oAV(X + d)Z. The novel basis sets are method-dependent in that they are trained to perform optimally for the correlation energy at each specific level of theory. They are shown to yield accurate results in calculating both the energy and tensorial properties such as polarizabilities while not significantly altering the Hartree-Fock energy. Quantitatively, complete basis set limit (CBS)-/(oAVdZ,oAVtZ)-extrapolated correlation energies typically outperform, by 3- to 5-fold, the ones calculated with traditional ansatzes of similar flexibility. Attaining energies of CBS/(AVtZ,AVqZ) type or better accuracy, they frequently outperform expensive raw explicitly correlated ones. Promisingly, a limited test on CBS-extrapolated energies based on conventional basis sets has shown that they compare well even with extrapolated explicitly correlated ones. Calculated atomization and dissociation energies, molecular geometries, ionization potentials, and electron affinities also tend to outperform the ones obtained with traditional Dunning's ansatzes from which the new basis sets have been determined. The method for basis set generation is simple, and there is no reason of principle why the approach could not be adapted for handling other bases in the literature.  相似文献

Time dependent density functional theory calculations are completed for five Ni(II) complexes formed by polydentate peptides to predict the electronic absorption spectrum. The ligands examined were glycyl‐glycyl‐glycine (GGG), glycyl‐glycyl‐glycyl‐glycine (GGGG), glycyl‐glycyl‐histidine (GGH), glycyl‐glycyl‐cysteine (GGC), and triethylenetetramine (trien). Fifteen functionals and two basis sets were tested. On the basis of the mean absolute percent deviation (MAPD), the ranking among the functionals is: HSE06 ∼ MPW1PW91 ∼ PBE0 > ω‐B97x‐D ∼ B3P86 ∼ B3LYP ∼ CAM‐B3LYP > PBE ∼ BLYP ∼ BP86 > TPSS > TPSSh > BHandHLYP > M06 ≫ M06‐2X. Concerning the basis sets, the triple‐ζ def2‐TZVP performs better than the double‐ζ LANL2DZ. With the functional HSE06 and basis set def2‐TZVP the MAPD with respect to the experimental λmax is 1.65% with a standard deviation of 1.26%. The absorption electronic spectra were interpreted in terms of vertical excitations between occupied and virtual MOs based on Ni‐d atomic orbitals. The electronic structure of the Ni(II) species is also discussed.  相似文献

An efficient procedure for construction of physically rationalized Slater‐type basis sets for calculations of dynamic hyperpolarizability is proposed. Their performance is evaluated for the DFT level calculations for model molecules, carried out with a series of functionals. Advantages of new basis sets over standard d‐aug‐cc‐pVTZ and recently developed LPOL‐(FL,FS) Gaussian‐type basis sets are discussed. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Consistent basis sets of double‐ and triple‐zeta valence with polarization quality for the fifth period have been derived for periodic quantum‐chemical solid‐state calculations with the crystalline‐orbital program CRYSTAL. They are an extension of the pob‐TZVP basis sets, and are based on the full‐relativistic effective core potentials (ECPs) of the Stuttgart/Cologne group and on the def2‐SVP and def2‐TZVP valence basis of the Ahlrichs group. We optimized orbital exponents and contraction coefficients to supply robust and stable self‐consistent field (SCF) convergence for a wide range of different compounds. The computed crystal structures are compared to those obtained with standard basis sets available from the CRYSTAL basis set database. For the applied hybrid density functional PW1PW, the average deviations of calculated lattice constants from experimental references are smaller with pob‐DZVP and pob‐TZVP than with standard basis sets. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We have carried out extensive studies on the basis set dependence of the calculated specific optical rotation (OR) in molecules at the level of the time–dependent Hartree–Fock and density functional approximations. To reach the limits of the basis set saturation, we have devised an artificial model, the asymmetrically deformed (chiral) methane (CM) molecule. This small system permits to use basis sets which are prohibitively large for real chiral molecules and yet shows all the important features of the basis set dependence of the OR values. The convergence of the OR has been studied with n‐aug‐cc‐pVXZ basis sets of Dunning up to the 6–ζ. In a parallel series of calculations, we have used the recently developed large polarized (LPolX) basis sets. The relatively small LPolX sets have been shown to be competitive to very large n‐aug‐cc‐pVXZ basis sets. The conclusions reached in calculations of OR in CM concerning the usefulness of LPolX basis sets have been further tested on (S)‐methyloxirane and (S)‐fluoro‐oxirane. The smallest set of the LPolX family (LPol–ds) has been found to yield OR values of similar quality as those obtained with much larger Dunning's aug‐cc‐pVQZ basis set. These results have encouraged us to carry out the OR calculations with LPol–ds basis sets for systems as large as β‐pinene and trans‐pinane. In both cases, our calculations have lead to the correct sign of the OR value in these molecules. This makes the relatively small LPol–ds basis sets likely to be useful in OR calculations for large molecules. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Comput Chem, 2010  相似文献

This work characterizes eight stationary points of the P2 dimer and six stationary points of the PCCP dimer, including a newly identified minimum on both potential energy surfaces. Full geometry optimizations and corresponding harmonic vibrational frequencies were computed with the second‐order Møller–Plesset (MP2) electronic structure method and six different basis sets: aug‐cc‐pVXZ, aug‐cc‐pV(X+d)Z, and aug‐cc‐pCVXZ where X = T, Q. A new L‐shaped structure with C2 symmetry is the only minimum for the P2 dimer at the MP2 level of theory with these basis sets. The previously reported parallel‐slipped structure with C2h symmetry and a newly identified cross configuration with D2 symmetry are the only minima for the PCCP dimer. Single point energies were also computed using the canonical MP2 and CCSD(T) methods as well as the explicitly correlated MP2‐F12 and CCSD(T)‐F12 methods and the aug‐cc‐pVXZ (X = D, T, Q, 5) basis sets. The energetics obtained with the explicitly correlated methods were very similar to the canonical results for the larger basis sets. Extrapolations were performed to estimate the complete basis set (CBS) limit MP2 and CCSD(T) binding energies. MP2 and MP2‐F12 significantly overbind the P2 and PCCP dimers relative to the CCSD(T) and CCSD(T)‐F12 binding energies by as much as 1.5 kcal mol?1 for the former and 5.0 kcal mol?1 for the latter at the CBS limit. The dominant attractive component of the interaction energy for each dimer configuration was dispersion according to several symmetry‐adapted perturbation theory analyses. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The present study examines the feasibility of combining the correlation‐consistent basis sets developed by Dunning and coworkers with the hybrid Hartree–Fock/density functional method B3LYP. Furthermore, extrapolation to the complete basis set (CBS) limit minimizes errors due to the presence of an incomplete basis set and can act as a rigorous test of the limitations of the B3LYP method. Equilibrium geometries, energies, and harmonic vibrational frequencies were determined for a series of well‐studied, yet computationally challenging, small inorganics and their respective ions. The results were then extrapolated to the CBS limit, where applicable, and compared to experiment. It was found that a union between the hybrid Hartree–Fock/density functional B3LYP method and Dunning's augmented correlation‐consistent basis sets gave results that were comparable to molecular orbital methods that explicitly account for electron correlation. Furthermore, the minimum basis set necessary to attain reasonable results for the systems studied was aug‐cc‐pVTZ. Upgrading to the aug‐cc‐pVQZ level and subsequent extrapolation to the CBS limit further improved the overall agreement with the experiment. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The performance of wavefunction‐based correlation methods in theoretical solid‐state chemistry depends on reliable Hartree–Fock (HF) results for infinitly extended systems. Therefore, we optimized basis sets of valence‐triple‐ζ quality based on HF calculations for the periodic system of group‐12‐metal difluorides. Scalar‐relativistic effects were included in the case of the metal‐ions by applying small‐core pseudopotentials. To assess the quality of the proposed basis sets, the structural parameters, bulk moduli as well as cohesive and lattice energies of the systems were evaluated at the HF and the density functional theory levels. In addition to these two mean‐field approaches and to assess further employment of our basis sets to wavefunction‐based correlation methods we performed periodic local MP2 computations. Finally, the possibilities of pressure induced structural phase transitions occurring in the ZnF2, CdF2, and HgF2 were investigated. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) was used to estimate water's isotropic nuclear shieldings and indirect nuclear spin–spin coupling constants (SSCCs) in the Kohn–Sham (KS) complete basis set (CBS) limit. Correlation‐consistent cc‐pVxZ and cc‐pCVxZ (x = D, T, Q, 5, and 6), and their modified versions (ccJ‐pVxZ, unc‐ccJ‐pVxZ, and aug‐cc‐pVTZ‐J) and polarization‐consistent pc‐n and pcJ‐n (n = 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4) basis sets were used, and the results fitted with a simple mathematical formula. The performance of over 20 studied density functionals was assessed from comparison with the experiment. The agreement between the CBS DFT‐predicted isotropic shieldings, spin–spin values, and the experimental values was good and similar for the modified correlation‐consistent and polarization‐consistent basis sets. The BHandH method predicted the most accurate 1H, 17O isotropic shieldings and 1J(OH) coupling constant (deviations from experiment of about ? 0.2 and ? 1 ppm and 0.6 Hz, respectively). The performance of BHandH for predicting water isotropic shieldings and 1J(OH) is similar to the more advanced methods, second‐order polarization propagator approximation (SOPPA) and SOPPA(CCSD), in the basis set limit. Efficient B3LYP and BHandH density functionals were used to estimate methanol's nuclear magnetic isotropic shieldings and spin–spin coupling constants in the basis set limit. Polarization‐consistent pcS‐n and pcJ‐n (n = 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4), and segmented contracted XZP, where X = D, T, Q and 5, basis sets were used and the results fitted with simple mathematical formulas. The performance of the methods was assessed from comparison with experiment and higher level calculations. 1J(CH) and 3J(HH) values were determined from very diluted solutions in deuterochloroform and compared with theoretical predictions. The agreement between complete basis set (CBS) density functional theory (DFT) predicted isotropic shieldings and spin–spin values and experiment was good. The BHandH/pcS‐n methanol shieldings obtained using structures optimized at the same level of theory are approaching the accuracy of the advanced coupled‐cluster‐singles‐doubles‐approximate triples (CCSD(T)) calculations. Ab initio quantum chemical calculations, G3B3, second‐order Møller–Plesset (MP2), and the hybrid density functional method B3LYP were employed to compute the proton affinities of 24 heterocyclic amines. A range of basis sets are employed, starting from double‐ζ polarization quality to triple‐ζ quality basis set with augmented diffuse and polarization function. Experimental values were used to calibrate the performance of various theoretical models. The regioselectivity for the protonation has been unambiguously established by performing B3LYP/6‐31G* calculations on the possible putative sites of attack. For the given series of compounds the performance of B3LYP/6‐31++G** and G3B3 levels of theory have been in excellent agreement with the experimental results with the deviations are of the order comparable with the experimental error. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Seven different types of Slater type basis sets for the elements H (Z = 1) up to E118 (Z = 118), ranging from a double zeta valence quality up to a quadruple zeta valence quality, are tested in their performance in neutral atomic and diatomic oxide calculations. The exponents of the Slater type functions are optimized for the use in (scalar relativistic) zeroth-order regular approximated (ZORA) equations. Atomic tests reveal that, on average, the absolute basis set error of 0.03 kcal/mol in the density functional calculation of the valence spinor energies of the neutral atoms with the largest all electron basis set of quadruple zeta quality is lower than the average absolute difference of 0.16 kcal/mol in these valence spinor energies if one compares the results of ZORA equation with those of the fully relativistic Dirac equation. This average absolute basis set error increases to about 1 kcal/mol for the all electron basis sets of triple zeta valence quality, and to approximately 4 kcal/mol for the all electron basis sets of double zeta quality. The molecular tests reveal that, on average, the calculated atomization energies of 118 neutral diatomic oxides MO, where the nuclear charge Z of M ranges from Z = 1-118, with the all electron basis sets of triple zeta quality with two polarization functions added are within 1-2 kcal/mol of the benchmark results with the much larger all electron basis sets, which are of quadruple zeta valence quality with four polarization functions added. The accuracy is reduced to about 4-5 kcal/mol if only one polarization function is used in the triple zeta basis sets, and further reduced to approximately 20 kcal/mol if the all electron basis sets of double zeta quality are used. The inclusion of g-type STOs to the large benchmark basis sets had an effect of less than 1 kcal/mol in the calculation of the atomization energies of the group 2 and group 14 diatomic oxides. The basis sets that are optimized for calculations using the frozen core approximation (frozen core basis sets) have a restricted basis set in the core region compared to the all electron basis sets. On average, the use of these frozen core basis sets give atomic basis set errors that are approximately twice as large as the corresponding all electron basis set errors and molecular atomization energies that are close to the corresponding all electron results. Only if spin-orbit coupling is included in the frozen core calculations larger errors are found, especially for the heavier elements, due to the additional approximation that is made that the basis functions are orthogonalized on scalar relativistic core orbitals.  相似文献

Consistent basis sets of triple‐zeta valence with polarization quality for main group elements and transition metals from row one to three have been derived for periodic quantum‐chemical solid‐state calculations with the crystalline‐orbital program CRYSTAL. They are based on the def2‐TZVP basis sets developed for molecules by the Ahlrichs group. Orbital exponents and contraction coefficients have been modified and reoptimized, to provide robust and stable self‐consistant field (SCF) convergence for a wide range of different compounds. We compare results on crystal structures, cohesive energies, and solid‐state reaction enthalpies with the modified basis sets, denoted as pob‐TZVP, with selected standard basis sets available from the CRYSTAL basis set database. The average deviation of calculated lattice parameters obtained with a selected density functional, the hybrid method PW1PW, from experimental reference is smaller with pob‐TZVP than with standard basis sets, in particular for metallic systems. The effects of basis set expansion by diffuse and polarization functions were investigated for selected systems. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The choice of basis set in quantum chemical calculations can have a huge impact on the quality of the results, especially for correlated ab initio methods. This article provides an overview of the development of Gaussian basis sets for molecular calculations, with a focus on four popular families of modern atom‐centered, energy‐optimized bases: atomic natural orbital, correlation consistent, polarization consistent, and def2. The terminology used for describing basis sets is briefly covered, along with an overview of the auxiliary basis sets used in a number of integral approximation techniques and an outlook on possible future directions of basis set design. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We applied the Infinite Basis (IB) set extrapolation and Double Hybrid Density Functional Theory (DHDF) to calculate the electron affinities, reaction barrier heights, proton affinities, non‐covalent interactions, atomization, ionization, and alkyl bond dissociation energies. We previously found that the mean unsigned error of the B2KPLYP‐IB calculation with the combination of cc‐pVTZ and cc‐pVQZ reach the chemical accuracy limit (~2 kcal/mol) where the largest deviation occurred in the electron affinity calculations and the weak interactions between noble gases and nonpolar molecules. Here, we investigated the basis set effect using the B2KPLYP‐IB extrapolation scheme that involves (1) the addition of extra tight d basis functions to the second row elements (i.e. cc‐pV(L+d)Z), (2) the addition of extra s, p, and d diffuse basis functions, and (3) a comparison between Dunning's Correlation Consistent and Jensen's Polarization Consistent (pc‐L) basis sets. We found that the addition of extra s and p diffuse basis functions formed the minimal augmented basis sets proposed by Truhlar. This addition permitted the B2KPLYP‐IB to reach the chemical accuracy limit with the combination of the double ζ and triple ζ basis sets. Adding extra s, p diffuse functions to the pc‐L series permitted only a small improvement. This small improvement is due to the fact that the pc‐L basis sets already contain a large number of functions for the p block elements. Taken together, the results suggest that this minimal augmented basis sets is useful for due to its accuracy and affordable computational cost.  相似文献
