The halogen bond, similar to the hydrogen bond, is an important noncovalent interaction and plays important roles in diverse chemistry‐related fields. Herein, bromine‐ and iodine‐based halogen‐bonding interactions between two benzene derivatives (C6F5Br and C6F5I) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) are investigated by using IR and NMR spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. The results are compared with those of interactions between C6F5Cl/C6F5H and DMSO. First, the interaction energy of the hydrogen bond is stronger than those of bromine‐ and chlorine‐based halogen bonds, but weaker than iodine‐based halogen bond. Second, attractive energies depend on 1/rn, in which n is between three and four for both hydrogen and halogen bonds, whereas all repulsive energies are found to depend on 1/r8.5. Third, the directionality of halogen bonds is greater than that of the hydrogen bond. The bromine‐ and iodine‐based halogen bonds are strict in this regard and the chlorine‐based halogen bond only slightly deviates from 180°. The directional order is iodine‐based halogen bond>bromine‐based halogen bond>chlorine‐based halogen bond>hydrogen bond. Fourth, upon the formation of hydrogen and halogen bonds, charge transfers from DMSO to the hydrogen‐ and halogen‐bond donors. The CH3 group contributes positively to stabilization of the complexes.  相似文献

This article analyzes the interplay between lone pair–π (lp–π) or anion–π interactions and halogen‐bonding interactions. Interesting cooperativity effects are observed when lp/anion–π and halogen‐bonding interactions coexist in the same complex, and they are found even in systems in which the distance between the anion and halogen‐bond donor molecule is longer than 9 Å. These effects are studied theoretically in terms of energetic and geometric features of the complexes, which are computed by ab initio methods. Bader′s theory of “atoms in molecules” is used to characterize the interactions and to analyze their strengthening or weakening depending upon the variation of charge density at critical points. The physical nature of the interactions and cooperativity effects are studied by means of molecular interaction potential with polarization partition scheme. By taking advantage of all aforementioned computational methods, the present study examines how these interactions mutually influence each other. Additionally, experimental evidence for such interactions is obtained from the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD).  相似文献

The nature and strength of the cation-π interactions between NH4^+ and toluene, p-cresol, or Me-indole were studied in terms of the topological properties of molecular charge density and binding energy decomposition. The results display that the diversity in the distribution pattern of bond and cage critical points reflects the profound influence of the number and nature of substituent on the electron density of the aromatic rings. On the other hand, the energy decomposition shows that dispersion and repulsive exchange forces play an important role in the organic cation (NH4^+)-π interaction, although the electrostatic and induction forces dominate the interaction. In addition, it is intriguing that there is an excellent correlation between the electrostatic energy and ellipticity at the bond critical point of the aromatic π systems, which would be helpful to further understand the electrostatic interaction in the cation-π complexes.  相似文献

Structure and properties of complexes (energies and charge transfer) of complexes BrF‐HX (X = F, Cl, Br, I) have been investigated at the MP2/aug‐cc‐pVDZ (aug‐cc‐pVDZ‐pp basis sets for I) level. Two types of geometries (hydrogen‐bonded and halogen‐bonded) are observed. The calculated interaction energies show that the halogen bonded structures are more stable than the corresponding hydrogen‐bonded structures. To study the nature of the intermolecular interactions, symmetry‐adapted perturbation theory (SAPT) energy decomposition analysis reveals that the BrF‐HX complexes are dominantly electrostatic in nature. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The MP2 ab initio quantum chemistry methods were utilized to study the halogen‐bond and pnicogen‐bond system formed between PH2X (X = Br, CH3, OH, CN, NO2, CF3) and BrY (Y = Br, Cl, F). Calculated results show that all substituent can form halogen‐bond complexes while part substituent can form pnicogen‐bond complexes. Traditional, chlorine‐shared and ion‐pair halogen‐bonds complexes have been found with the different substituent X and Y. The halogen‐bonds are stronger than the related pnicogen‐bonds. For halogen‐bonds, strongly electronegative substituents which are connected to the Lewis acid can strengthen the bonds and significantly influenced the structures and properties of the compounds. In contrast, the substituents which connected to the Lewis bases can produce opposite effects. The interaction energies of halogen‐bonds are 2.56 to 32.06 kcal·mol?1; The strongest halogen‐bond was found in the complex of PH2OH???BrF. The interaction energies of pnicogen‐bonds are in the range 1.20 to 2.28 kcal·mol?1; the strongest pnicogen‐bond was found in PH2Br???Br2 complex. The charge transfer of lp(P) ? σ*(Br? Y), lp(F) ? σ*(Br? P), and lp(Br) ? σ*(X? P) play important roles in the formation of the halogen‐bonds and pnicogen‐bonds, which lead to polarization of the monomers. The polarization caused by the halogen‐bond is more obvious than that by the pnicogen‐bond, resulting in that some halogen‐bonds having little covalent character. The symmetry adapted perturbation theory (SAPT) energy decomposition analysis showes that the halogen‐bond and pnicogen‐bond interactions are predominantly electrostatic and dispersion, respectively.  相似文献

We present theoretical evidence that the two types of interactions exist in the complexes formed between methylenecyclopropane (MECP) and XY (X, Y = H, F, Cl, and Br). Two seats of XY interacted with MECP are located: (a) is via the pseudo‐π bonding electron pair associated with a C? C bond of the cyclopropane ring and (b) is via the typical‐π bonding of electron pair of the C?C bond of MECP. These two types of weak interactions are compared based on the calculated geometries, interaction energies, frequency changes, and topological properties of electron density. The integration of electron density over the interatomic surface is found to be a good measure for the strength of weak interaction. Furthermore, the total electron density and separated σ and π electron densities are also computed and discussed in this article. The separated electron density shows σ electron density determined the strength and π electron density influenced the direction of the hydrogen/halogen bond. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A theoretical study of the halogen‐bonded complexes formed between fluorinated dimethyl ethers (nF = 0–4) and ClF is carried out using the wB97XD method combined with the 6‐311++G(d,p) basis set. The properties of the complexes are compared with the corresponding properties of the hydrogen‐bonded complexes formed between the same electron donors and HF. The optimized geometries, the interaction energies, relevant natural bonding orbital characteristics along with some vibrational data are calculated. The analyzed properties also include the symmetry adapted perturbation theory decomposition of the energies along with the atoms‐in molecule analysis. For both the halogen and hydrogen bonds, the interaction energies are ruled by the intermolecular hyperconjugation energies. In contrast, the correlations between the binding energies and the basic properties of the ethers or the charge transfer are different for the halogen and hydrogen bonds. The applicability of the Bent's rule to these systems is discussed. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Halogen bonding is often described as being driven predominantly by electrostatics, and thus adducts between anionic halogen bond (XB) donors (halogen‐based Lewis acids) and anions seem counterintuitive. Such “anti‐electrostatic” XBs have been predicted theoretically but for organic XB donors, there are currently no experimental examples except for a few cases of self‐association. Reported herein is the synthesis of two negatively charged organoiodine derivatives that form anti‐electrostatic XBs with anions. Even though the electrostatic potential is universally negative across the surface of both compounds, DFT calculations indicate kinetic stabilization of their halide complexes in the gas phase and particularly in solution. Experimentally, self‐association of the anionic XB donors was observed in solid‐state structures, resulting in dimers, trimers, and infinite chains. In addition, co‐crystals with halides were obtained, representing the first cases of halogen bonding between an organic anionic XB donor and a different anion. The bond lengths of all observed interactions are 14–21 % shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations have been performed on single‐electron halogen bonds between methyl radical and bromine‐containing molecules to gain a deeper insight into the nature of such noncovalent interactions. Bader's atoms in molecules (AIM) theory have also been applied to the analysis of the linking of the single‐electron halogen bond. Various characteristics of the R? Br…CH3 interaction, i.e., binding energies, geometrical parameters and topological properties of the electron density have been determined. The presence of the bond critical points (BCPs) between the bromine atom and methyl radical and the values of electron density and Laplacian of electron density at these BCPs indicate the closed‐shell interactions in the complexes. The single‐electron halogen bonds, which are significantly weaker than the normal halogen bonds, exhibit equally bond strength as compared to the single‐electron hydrogen bond. It has been also found that plotting of the binding energies versus topological properties of the electron density at the BCPs gives two straight lines. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The first example of utilizing halogen‐bonding anion recognition to facilitate molecular motion in an interlocked structure is described. A halogen‐bonding and hydrogen‐bonding bistable rotaxane is prepared and demonstrated to undergo shuttling of the macrocycle component from the hydrogen‐bonding station to the halogen‐bonding station upon iodide recognition. In contrast, chloride‐anion binding reinforces the macrocycle to reside at the hydrogen‐bonding station.  相似文献

MP2/aug‐cc‐pVDZ calculations are carried out on the geometries, vibrational frequencies, interaction energies and topological properties for the π‐type halogen‐bonded complexes between propargyl radical and dihalogen molecules ClF, BrF and BrCl. There are two kinds of geometries: complex ( a ) involves the interaction between the X (X=Cl, Br) atom and the midpoint of C(1) –C(2) bond, complex ( b ) involves the interaction between the X atom and C(3) atom. The lengths of the halogen bond, the frequencies of the halogen bond, the elongation extent of the X–Y (XY=ClF, BrF, BrCl) bond, topological parameters at the BCPs of the halogen bond and X–Y bond are all well consistent with the interaction energies. The interaction of complex ( a ) is stronger than that of complex ( b ); the interaction of propargyl···BrF is stronger than that of propargyl···ClF and propargyl···BrCl. For the complexes ( a ) and ( b ), the charge transfer is observed from propargyl radical to XY, the atomic energy, the dipolar polarization, and the volume of the halogen atom X decrease upon complex formation.  相似文献

Halogen‐bonding (XB) interactions were exploited in the solution‐phase assembly of anion‐templated pseudorotaxanes between an isophthalamide‐containing macrocycle and bromo‐ or iodo‐functionalised pyridinium threading components. 1H NMR spectroscopic titration investigations demonstrated that such XB interpenetrated assemblies are more stable than analogous hydrogen bonding (HB) pseudorotaxanes. The stability of the anion‐templated halogen‐bonded pseudorotaxane architectures was exploited in the preparation of new halogen‐bonding interlocked catenane species through a Grubbs’ ring‐closing metathesis (RCM) clipping methodology. The catenanes’ anion recognition properties in the competitive CDCl3/CD3OD 1:1 solvent mixture revealed selectivity for the heavier halides iodide and bromide over chloride and acetate.  相似文献

A study of the strong N?X????O?N+ (X=I, Br) halogen bonding interactions reports 2×27 donor×acceptor complexes of N‐halosaccharins and pyridine N‐oxides (PyNO). DFT calculations were used to investigate the X???O halogen bond (XB) interaction energies in 54 complexes. A simplified computationally fast electrostatic model was developed for predicting the X???O XBs. The XB interaction energies vary from ?47.5 to ?120.3 kJ mol?1; the strongest N?I????O?N+ XBs approaching those of 3‐center‐4‐electron [N?I?N]+ halogen‐bonded systems (ca. 160 kJ mol?1). 1H NMR association constants (KXB) determined in CDCl3 and [D6]acetone vary from 2.0×100 to >108 m ?1 and correlate well with the calculated donor×acceptor complexation enthalpies found between ?38.4 and ?77.5 kJ mol?1. In X‐ray crystal structures, the N‐iodosaccharin‐PyNO complexes manifest short interaction ratios (RXB) between 0.65–0.67 for the N?I????O?N+ halogen bond.  相似文献

Prolonged drug residence times may result in longer‐lasting drug efficacy, improved pharmacodynamic properties, and “kinetic selectivity” over off‐targets with high drug dissociation rates. However, few strategies have been elaborated to rationally modulate drug residence time and thereby to integrate this key property into the drug development process. Herein, we show that the interaction between a halogen moiety on an inhibitor and an aromatic residue in the target protein can significantly increase inhibitor residence time. By using the interaction of the serine/threonine kinase haspin with 5‐iodotubercidin (5‐iTU) derivatives as a model for an archetypal active‐state (type I) kinase–inhibitor binding mode, we demonstrate that inhibitor residence times markedly increase with the size and polarizability of the halogen atom. The halogen–aromatic π interactions in the haspin–inhibitor complexes were characterized by means of kinetic, thermodynamic, and structural measurements along with binding‐energy calculations.  相似文献

We report design, synthesis and evaluation of a series of naphthalenediimides (NDIs) that are bridged with short peptides. Reminiscent of peptide stapling technologies, the macrocycles are conveniently accessible by a chromogenic nucleophilic aromatic substitution of two bromides in the NDI core with two thiols from cysteine sidechains. The dimension of core‐bridged NDIs matches that of one turn of an α helix. NDI‐stapled peptides exist as two, often separable atropisomers. Introduction of tertiary amine bases in amino‐acid sidechains above the π‐acidic NDI surface affords operational anion‐π catalysts. According to an enolate chemistry benchmark reaction, anion‐π catalysis next to peptides occurs with record chemoselectivity but weak enantioselectivity. Catalytic activity drops with increasing distance of the amine base to the NDI surface, looser homocysteine bridges, mismatched, shortened and elongated α‐helix turns, and acyclic peptide controls. Elongation of isolated turns into short α helices significantly increases activity. This increase is consistent with remote control of anion‐π catalysis from the α‐helix macrodipole.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations are used to provide information on H3N???XY???HF triads (X, Y=F, Cl, Br) each having a halogen bond and a hydrogen bond. The investigated triads include H3N???Br2‐HF, H3N???Cl2???HF, H3N???BrCI???HF, H3N???BrF???HF, and H3N???ClF???HF. To understand the properties of the systems better, the corresponding dyads are also investigated. Molecular geometries, binding energies, and infrared spectra of monomers, dyads, and triads are studied at the MP2 level of theory with the 6‐311++G(d,p) basis set. Because the primary aim of this study is to examine cooperative effects, particular attention is given to parameters such as cooperative energies, many‐body interaction energies, and cooperativity factors. The cooperative energy ranges from ?1.45 to ?4.64 kcal mol?1, the three‐body interaction energy from ?2.17 to ?6.71 kcal mol?1, and the cooperativity factor from 1.27 to 4.35. These results indicate significant cooperativity between the halogen and hydrogen bonds in these complexes. This cooperativity is much greater than that between hydrogen bonds. The effect of a halogen bond on a hydrogen bond is more pronounced than that of a hydrogen bond on a halogen bond.  相似文献

New iron complexes [Cp*Fe L ]? ( 1‐σ and 1‐π , Cp*=C5Me5) containing the chelating phosphinine ligand 2‐(2′‐pyridyl)‐4,6‐diphenylphosphinine ( L ) have been prepared, and found to undergo facile reaction with CO2 under ambient conditions. The outcome of this reaction depends on the coordination mode of the versatile ligand L . Interaction of CO2 with the isomer 1‐π , in which L binds to Fe through the phosphinine moiety in an η5 fashion, leads to the formation of 3‐π , in which CO2 has undergone electrophilic addition to the phosphinine group. In contrast, interaction with 1‐σ —in which L acts as a σ‐chelating [P,N] ligand—leads to product 3‐σ in which one C=O bond has been completely broken. Such CO2 cleavage reactions are extremely rare for late 3d metals, and this represents the first such example mediated by a single Fe centre.  相似文献

The unprecedented application of a chiral halogen‐bonding [3]rotaxane host system for the discrimination of stereo‐ and E/Z geometric isomers of a dicarboxylate anion guest is described. Synthesised by a chloride anion templation strategy, the [3]rotaxane host recognises dicarboxylates through the formation of 1:1 stoichiometric sandwich complexes. This process was analysed by molecular dynamics simulations, which revealed the critical synergy of halogen and hydrogen bonding interactions in anion discrimination. In addition, the centrally located chiral (S)‐BINOL motif of the [3]rotaxane axle component facilitates the complexed dicarboxylate species to be sensed via a fluorescence response.  相似文献

The synthesis and anion binding properties of the first rotaxane host system to bind and sense anions purely through halogen bonding, is described. Through a combination of polarized iodotriazole and iodotriazolium halogen bond donors, a three‐dimensional cavity is created for anion binding. This rotaxane incorporates a luminescent rhenium(I) bipyridyl metal sensor motif within the macrocycle component, thus enabling optical study of the anion binding properties. The rotaxane topology was confirmed by single‐crystal X‐ray structural analysis, demonstrating halogen bonding between the electrophilic iodine atoms and chloride anions. In 50 % H2O/CH3CN solvent mixtures the rotaxane host exhibits strong binding affinity and selectivity for chloride, bromide, and iodide over a range of oxoanions.  相似文献
