The geometries, stabilities, and electronic properties of new endohedral fullerene YCN@C72 have been investigated by the B3LYP and PBE1PBE density functional (DFT) methods. The C2v(11188)‐C72 cage, which violates the isolated pentagon rule (IPR) with a pair of fused pentagons, is predicted to be the lowest energy isomer for both empty and YCN@C72. The relatively large HOMO‐LUMO gap (B3LYP: 1.48 eV, PBE1PBE: 1.68 eV) for YCN@C2v(11188)‐C72 reveals this structure kinetic stability. Significantly, the encased YCN cluster adopts a triangular structure inside the C2v(11188)‐C72 cage, similar to the results reported on YCN@Cs(6)‐C82 and TbCN@C2(5)‐C82. Furthermore, the vertical ionization potential and electron affinity, UV‐vis‐NIR and IR spectra of YCN@C2v(11188)‐C72 have been predicted to facilitate future experimental characterization. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

As an emerging member of endohedral fullerenes, metal cyanide clusterfullerenes (CYCF) are unique in terms of the encapsulation of a monometallic cluster. To date the reported carbon cages of CYCFs are limited to C82 and C76, and little is known about the chemical reactivity of CYCFs. Herein, two isomers of the first C84‐based CYCFs, YCN@C84, were isolated as trifluoromethyl derivatives, including YCN@C84(23)(CF3)18 and three isomers of YCN@C84(13)(CF3)16, which are based on a unique chiral C 2‐C84(13) cage. As a common feature of the CF3 addition patterns, the YCN@C84(CF3)16/18 compounds are stabilized by the formation of isolated C=C bonds and benzenoid rings on the carbon cages. The interplay between the endohedral YCN cluster and the exhohedral CF3 addends was unveiled according to single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction studies, thus offering new insight into the chemical reactivity of CYCFs.  相似文献

The reactions of [(μ‐H)3Re3(CO)11(NCMe)] with Sc2@C82C3v(8), Sc2C2@C80C2v(5), Sc2O@C82Cs(6), C86C2(17), and C86Cs(16) have been carried out to produce face‐capping cluster complexes. The Re3 triangles are found to bind to the sumanene‐type hexagons on the fullerene surface regiospecifically. In contrast, Sc3N@C78D3h(5) and Sc3N@C80Ih show no reactivity toward [(μ‐H)3Re3(CO)11(NCMe)], probably due to electronic and steric factors. These complexes can be easily purified by using HPLC. Carbonylation of each complex releases the corresponding higher fullerene or endohedral metallofullerene in pure form. Remarkably, the C86C2(17) and C86Cs(16) isomers were successively separated through Re3 cluster complexation/decomplexation. This unique bonding feature may provide an attractive general strategy to purify as yet unresolved fullerene mixtures.  相似文献

A systematic density functional theory investigation has been carried out to explore the possible structures of Sc2C80 at the BMK/6‐31G(d) level. The results clearly show that Sc2@C80Ih, Sc2@C80D5h, and Sc2C2@C78C2v can be identified as three isomers of Sc2C80 metallofullerene with the lowest energy. Frontier molecular orbital analysis indicates that the two Sc2@C80 isomers have a charge state as (Sc3+)2@C806?and the Sc2C2@C78 has a charge state of (Sc3+)2C22?@C784?. Moreover, the metal‐cage covalent interactions have been studied to reveal the dynamics of endohedral moiety. The vertical electron affinity, vertical ionization potential, infrared spectra and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectra have been also computed to further disclose the molecular structures and properties.  相似文献

Eighteen possible isomers of C78(CH2)2 weTe investigated by the INDO method. It was indicated that the most stable isomer was 42,43,62,63-C78(CH2)2, where the -CH2 groups were added to the 6/6 bonds located at the same hexagon passed by the longest axis of C78 (C2v), to form cyclopropane structures. Based on the most stable four geometries of C78(CH2)2 optimized at B3LYP/3-21G level, the first absorptions in the electronic spectra calculated with the INDO/CIS method and the IR frequencies of the C-C bonds on the carbon cage computed using the AM1 method were blue-shifted compared with those of C78 (C2v) because of the bigger LUMO-HOMO energy gap and the less conjugated carbon cage after the addition. The chemical shifts of ^13C NMR for the carbon atoms on the added bonds calculated at B3LYP/3-21G level were moved upfield thanks to the conversion from sp^2-C to sp^3-C.  相似文献

The complete set of 6332 classical isomers of the fullerene C68 as well as several non‐classical isomers is investigated by PM3, and the data for some of the more stable isomers are refined by the DFT‐based methods HCTH and B3LYP. C2:0112 possesses the lowest energy of all the neutral isomers and it prevails in a wide range of temperatures. Among the fullerene ions modeled, C682?, C684? and C686?, the isomers C682?(Cs:0064), C684?(C2v:0008), and C686?(D3:0009) respectively, are predicted to be the most stable. This reveals that the pentagon adjacency penalty rule (PAPR) does not necessarily apply to the charged fullerene cages. The vertical electron affinities of the neutral Cs:0064, C2v:0008, and D3:0009 isomers are 3.41, 3.29, and 3.10 eV, respectively, suggesting that they are good electron acceptors. The predicted complexation energy, that is, the adiabatic binding energy between the cage and encapsulated cluster, of Sc2C2@C68(C2v:0008) is ?6.95 eV, thus greatly releasing the strain of its parent fullerene (C2v:0008). Essentially, C68 fullerene isomers are charge‐stabilized. Thus, inducing charge facilitates the isolation of the different isomers. Further investigations show that the steric effect of the encaged cluster should also be an important factor to stabilize the C68 fullerenes effectively.  相似文献

Although the major isomers of M@C82 (namely M@C2v(9)‐C82, where M is a trivalent rare‐earth metal) have been intensively investigated, the lability of the minor isomers has meant that they have been little studied. Herein, the first isolation and crystallographic characterization of the minor Y@C82 isomer, unambiguously assigned as Y@Cs(6)‐C82 by cocrystallization with Ni(octaethylporphyrin), is reported. Unexpectedly, a regioselective dimerization is observed in the crystalline state of Y@Cs(6)‐C82. In sharp contrast, no dimerization occurs for the major isomer Y@C2v(9)‐C82 under the same conditions, indicating a cage‐symmetry‐induced dimerization process. Further experimental and theoretical results disclose that the regioselective dimer formation is a consequence of the localization of high spin density on a special cage‐carbon atom of Y@Cs(6)‐C82 which is caused by the steady displacement of the Y atom inside the Cs(6)‐C82 cage.  相似文献

Although all the pure‐carbon fullerene isomers above C60 reported to date comply with the isolated pentagon rule (IPR), non‐IPR structures, which are expected to have different properties from those of IPR species, are obtainable either by exohedral modification or by endohedral atom doping. This report describes the isolation and characterization of a new endohedral metallofullerene (EMF), La2@C76, which has a non‐IPR fullerene cage. The X‐ray crystallographic result for the La2@C76/[NiII(OEP)] (OEP=octaethylporphyrin) cocrystal unambiguously elucidated the Cs(17 490)‐C76 cage structure, which contains two adjacent pentagon pairs. Surprisingly, multiple metal sites were distinguished from the X‐ray data, which implies dynamic behavior for the two La3+ cations inside the cage. This dynamic behavior was also corroborated by variable‐temperature 139 La NMR spectroscopy. This phenomenon conflicts with the widely accepted idea that the metal cations in non‐IPR EMFs invariably coordinate strongly with the negatively charged fused‐pentagon carbons, thereby providing new insights into modern coordination chemistry. Furthermore, our electrochemical and computational studies reveal that La2@Cs(17 490)‐C76 has a larger HOMO–LUMO gap than other dilanthanum‐EMFs with IPR cage structures, such as La2@D3h(5)‐C78 and La2@Ih(7)‐C80, which implies that IPR is no longer a strict rule for EMFs.  相似文献

Excited by the recently experimental reports of monometallic cluster fullerenes, we examined the electronic and geometrical properties of monometallic cluster fullerenes YCN@Cn with size from C68 to C84 by density functional theory and statistical thermodynamic calculations. The calculations demonstrate that the thermodynamically favored isomers of YCN@Cn are in good agreement with available experimental results. Morphology analysis shows that the lowest‐energy YCN@Cn species are structurally connected by C2 insertion/extrusion and Stone–Wales rotation, which can be promoted under high temperature; enthalpy–entropy interplay can change the relative abundances of low‐energy isomers significantly at high temperature. All the results suggest that there is a structural evolution among these metallic cluster fullerenes in discharge condition, and thus, can rationalize their structural diversity in the soot and partly disclose their formation mechanism. The geometrical structures, electronic properties of these endohedral fullerene were discussed in detail.  相似文献

The equilibrium structures and relative stabilities of the possible 21 lower‐energy isomers for C78O3 based on C78 (C2v) were studied by intermediate neglect of differential overlap (INDO) calculations. It was indicated that the most stable geometry is 28,29,30,31,52,53‐C78O3, where three oxygen atoms are added to the same hexagon passed by the longest axis of C78 (C2v) and epoxide structures are formed. Electronic spectra of C78O3 isomers were investigated based on the optimized geometries. The blue shift of the absorptions for 28,29,30,31,52,53‐C78O3 compared with that of C78 (C2v) was rationalized and nature of transition of the peaks discussed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The first example of the control of porphyrinoid chromophore symmetry based on the positional isomerism of peripheral substituents has been achieved by preparing tetraazaporphyrins (TAPs) with C4h, D2h, C2v, and Cs symmetry due to the relative arrangement of peripheral tert‐butylamino and cyano groups as push and pull substituents, respectively. The four structural isomers were successfully isolated and characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy and X‐ray crystallography. The band morphology in the Q‐band region varies depending on the molecular symmetry due to the significant perturbation introduced into the chromophore by the push and pull substituents. The C4h and C2v isomers exhibit a single Q band, whereas the Q bands of the D2h and Cs isomers show a marked splitting. The magnetic circular dichroism spectra indicate that the push–pull TAPs retain the properties of the 16‐membered 18π‐electron perimeter generally observed for porphyrinoids. Theoretical calculations have demonstrated that the perturbation introduced by the substituents lowers the D4h symmetry of the parent TAP π‐conjugated system, and this results in significant spectral changes. A novel approach to the fine‐tuning of the spectral properties of porphyrinoids based on changes in the chromophore symmetry is described.  相似文献

Equilibrium geometries of 16 possible isomers for C74(BN)2 were studied by INDO series of methods, to indicate that the most stable three geometries are those where boron and nitrogen atoms substitute carbon atoms located at the same hexagon near the longest axis of C78 (C2v) to form B-N-B-N unit. Electronic spectra of C74(BN)2 were investigated with INDO/CIS method. The reason for the red shift of UV absorptions for C74(BN)2 compared with those of C78 (C2v) was discussed. IR spectra for 9,8,28,29-C74(BN)2 and 28,29,30,31-C74(BN)2 were calculated on the basis of AM1 geometries.  相似文献

Chemical functionalization of endohedral metallofullerenes (EMFs) is essential for the application of these novel carbon materials. Actinide EMFs, a new EMF family member, have presented unique molecular and electronic structures but their chemical properties remain unexplored. Here, for the first time, we report the chemical functionalization of actinide EMFs, in which the photochemical reaction of Th@C3v(8)-C82 and U@C2v(9)-C82 with 2-adamantane-2,3′-[3H]-diazirine (AdN2, 1) was systematically investigated. The combined HPLC and MALDI-TOF analyses show that carbene addition by photochemical reaction afforded three isomers of Th@C3v(8)-C82Ad and four isomers of U@C2v(9)-C82Ad (Ad = adamantylidene), presenting notably higher reactivity than their lanthanide analogs. Among these novel EMF derivatives, Th@C3v(8)-C82Ad(I, II, III) and U@C2v(9)-C82Ad(I, II, III) were successfully isolated and were characterized by UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy. In particular, the molecular structures of first actinide fullerene derivatives, Th@C3v(8)-C82Ad(I) and U@C2v(9)-C82Ad(I), were unambiguously determined by single crystal X-ray crystallography, both of which show a [6,6]-open cage structure. In addition, isomerization of Th@C3v(8)-C82Ad(II), Th@C3v(8)-C82Ad(III), U@C2v(9)-C82Ad(II) and U@C2v(9)-C82Ad(III) was observed at room temperature. Computational studies suggest that the attached carbon atoms on the cages of both Th@C3v(8)-C82Ad(I) and U@C2v(9)-C82Ad(I) have the largest negative charges, thus facilitating the electrophilic attack. Furthermore, it reveals that, compared to their lanthanide analogs, Th@C3v(8)-C82 and U@C2v(9)-C82 have much closer metal–cage distance, increased metal-to-cage charge transfer, and strong metal–cage interactions stemming from the significant contribution of extended Th-5f and U-5f orbitals to the occupied molecular orbitals, all of which give rise to their unusual high reactivity. This study provides first insights into the exceptional chemical properties of actinide endohedral fullerenes, which pave ways for the future functionalization and application of these novel EMF compounds.

Photochemical reaction of Th@C3v(8)-C82 and U@C2v(9)-C82 with 2-adamantane-2,3′-[3H]-diazirine (AdN2, 1) afforded three isomers of Th@C3v(8)-C82Ad and four isomers of U@C2v(9)-C82Ad (Ad = adamantylidene), respectively.  相似文献

The structural properties and intramolecular hydrogen bonding of a series of structures of naphthazarin molecule were investigated by ab initio HF-SCF methods. The geometries of theC 2v ,C 2h ,D 2h , andC s symmetry structures were optimized using split-valence basis sets. MP2/6-31G*// HF/6-31G single-point energy calculations indicate that theC 2v isomer (5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) is the lowest energy structure of the molecule and that theC 2h symmetry one (4,8-dihydroxy-1,5-naphthoquinone), lying 37 kJ/mol above theC 2v form, is the other stable isomer of naphthazarin. At the HF/6-31G level, the intramolecular proton exchange between two equivalentC 2v structures is a two-step process where each proton can be independently transferred through an unsymmetrical potential having a 1,5-quinone intermediate, theC 2h symmetry structure, and two equivalent transition states ofC s symmetry, with a barrier height equal to 38 kJ/ mol (MP2/6-31G*//HF/6-31G). The study of naphthazarin molecule is flanked by a theoretical investigation on theC 2v andC 2h isomers of the parent naphthoquinone and dihydroxynaphthalene molecules. The SCF vibrational spectrum of the ground state of naphthazarin, harmonic frequencies, and infrared and Raman band intensities were computed at the HF/6-31G level. The results of the calculations are compared with the matrix isolation FT-IR spectroscopy measurements and with the infrared and Raman spectra of the crystal molecule.  相似文献

Equilibrium geometries and relative stabilities of 24 possible isomers for C78O4 based on C78 (C2v) were studied by intermediate neglect of differential overlap (INDO) calculations. It was indicated that the most stable geometry is 28,29,30,31,52,53,73,78‐C78O4, where three oxygen atoms are added to the same hexagon, through which the longest axis of C78 (C2v) goes, and the forth oxygen atom is added to the C(73)? A new cluster fullerene, Sc2O@Td(19151)‐C76, has been isolated and characterized by mass spectrometry, UV/Vis/NIR absorption, 45Sc NMR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. The crystallographic analysis unambiguously assigned the cage structure as Td(19151)‐C76, which is the first tetrahedral fullerene cage characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. This study also demonstrated that the Sc2O cluster has a much smaller Sc?O?Sc angle than that of Sc2O@Cs(6)‐C82 and the Sc2O unit is fully ordered inside the Td(19151)‐C76 cage. Computational studies further revealed that the cluster motion of the Sc2O is more restrained in the Td(19151)‐C76 cage than that in the Cs(6)‐C82 cage. These results suggest that cage size affects not only the shapes but also the cluster motion inside fullerene cages.  相似文献

For all isolated pentagon isomers of the fullerenes C60–C86 with nonzero HOMO–LUMO gap and for one nonclassical C72 isomer (C2 v ), endohedral chemical shifts have been computed at the GIAO-SCF/3-21G level using B3LYP/6-31G* optimized structures. The experimental 3He NMR signals are reproduced reasonably well in cases where assignments are unambiguous (e.g. C60, C70 and C76). On the basis of the calculated thermodynamic stability order and the comparison between the computed and experimental 3He chemical shifts, the assignments of the observed 3He NMR spectra are discussed for all higher fullerenes, and new assignments are proposed for one C82 and one C86 isomer (C82:3 and C86:17). The calculated helium chemical shifts also suggest the reassignment of the δ(3He) resonances of two C78 isomers. In terms of density functional theory combined with statistic mechanics computations, we investigated a dimetallic sulfide endohedral fullerene Sc2S@C76 which has been synthesized without any characterization in experiments. Our theoretical study reveals that Sc2S@Td(19151)‐C76 which satisfies the isolated‐pentagon rule (IPR) possesses the lowest energy, followed by three non‐IPR structures (Sc2S@C2v(19138)‐C76, Sc2S@Cs (17490)‐C76, and Sc2S@C1(17459)‐C76). To clarify the relative stabilities of those isomers at high temperatures, enthalpy–entropy interplay has been taken into consideration. Calculation results indicate that three species Sc2S@Td(19151)‐C76, Sc2S@C2v(19138)‐C76, and Sc2S@C1(17459)‐C76 have noticeable molar fractions at the fullerene‐formation temperature region (500–3000K), and the Sc2S@C1(17459)‐C76 with one pentagon pair becomes the most predominant isomer above 1800 K, suggesting that the unexpected non‐IPR structure is thermodynamically favorable at elevated temperatures. In addition, the structural characteristics, electron features, UV‐vis‐NIR adsorptions, and 13C NMR spectra of those three stable structures are introduced to assist experimental identification and characterization in future. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献
