A beta spectrometer composed of a solid BC-400 type plastic scintillation detector was designed to select the original beta particles from the electronic noise in the low-energy part of the 14C beta spectrum by means of a timing discrimination method. Efficient selection of the beta particles in the noise band was achieved.  相似文献

234Th activities in sea water were measured using Fe(OH)3 co-precipitation and beta counting at six stations in Prydz Bay in March 2008 during the 24th Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition. Total 234Th activities ranged from 0.96 to 2.44 dpm L?1 with an average of 1.61 dpm L?1, showing an apparent deficit with respect to 238U due to scavenging and export with particles. With a one-dimensional steady state model, 234Th export fluxes were converted to particulate organic carbon (POC) export using bottle ratios of POC concentrations to particulate 234Th activities on suspended particles. POC fluxes at the depth of 100 m varied between 33 and 297 mmol m?2 day?1, comparable to prior work in the same region and higher than those of some other sea areas in the Southern Ocean, and indicated efficient running of biological pump in Prydz Bay. The results could be helpful to expand the knowledge of carbon cycle in seasonally ice-covered coastal regions around Antarctica.  相似文献

Dehydrated samples of zeolite Y containing alkali-metal cations have been reacted with alkali-metal vapor in sealed silica tubes, and the products studied by electron-spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. Two distinct species were detected following the reaction of sodium-exchanged zeolite Y with sodium, potassium, or rubidium vapor. Exposure to a low concentration of metal vapor resulted in brightly colored samples with ESR signals characteristic of a stable ionic cluster species Na3+4, in which an unpaired electron is trapped on four equivalent sodium cations in the sodalite cages of the zeolite. Exposure to higher concentrations of metal vapor resulted in dark-colored samples with ESR signals characteristic of small metallic particles located inside the zeolite cavities. A similar ionic cluster species K3+4 was detected following the reaction of potassium-exchanged zeolite Y with sodium or potassium vapor although the potassium cluster was less stable than its sodium counterpart and an ESR signal from small metallic particles was observed at the same time. The corresponding Rb3+4 ionic cluster species was not detected following the reaction of rubidium-exchanged zeolite Y with rubidium vapor; only an ESR signal from small metallic particles was observed. The narrow linewidths of the ESR signals from the small metallic particles suggest an inhibition of the spin-relaxation mechanisms in the bulk metals.  相似文献

Two new bidentate salicylaldiminato Schiff-base ligands have been synthesized by condensation of various precursor ligands and n-propylamine. The results of elemental analysis are in conformity with the suggested formula. The main bands in IR spectra, signals in 1H NMR and electronic absorption spectra are assigned and discussed in terms of molecular structure. Semiempirical calculations of the structures and second-order nonlinear optical polarizabilities () of molecules were performed. The value for one of these Schiff-base compounds is 134 times that of urea.  相似文献

The radio-voltaic effect is investigated to be applied radioisotopic batteries in this work. The collection rates of the electron-hole pairs are 94 percent for the alpha particles emitted by239Pu source and 65 percent for the beta particles emitted by90Sr-90Y source. The maximum energy conversion efficiency got by the silicon element is about 16%. A prototype radioisotopic battery with147Pm beta sources is constructed. Its maximum short-circuit current and off voltage are about 2 A and 190 mV respectively. The experimental data suggest that the life of the prototype battery may be more than three years.  相似文献

Single crystals of Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, and Pb2+ beta″ alumina were prepared from sodium beta″ alumina by ion exchange. The ionic conductivities of Ca2+, Sr2+, and Ba2+ beta″ alumina are comparable, about 3 × 10?2 (ohm-cm)?1 at 300°C. Surprisingly, Pb2+ beta″ alumina is much more conductive, 1.5 × 10?1 (ohm-cm)?1 at 300°C and 4.6 × 10?3 (ohm-cm)?1 at 40°C. Its conductivity approaches that of sodium beta″ alumina at temperatures below 25°C. The diffusion coefficient for Sr2+ in beta″ alumina at 600°C was estimated from radiotracer experiments. It is consistent with that expected from conductivity measurements.  相似文献

PM-10, PM-2.5 and PM-1.0 concentrations were measured over an 8 h period at sites both inside and outside the museum of Wawel Royal Castle in Cracow, Poland. Gross alpha (α) and beta (β) activities seemed to vary across the particle size range with generally higher levels of activities in the PM-2.5 particle fraction, and higher activities in the PM-10 fraction, while both the highest and the lowest beta activities were found in PM-1.0 fraction. However, statistically there was no significant difference. The highly radioactive PM-1.0 fraction comprised mainly 210Pb and the 210Pb progeny, 210Bi and 210Po, and can be attributed to anthropogenic sourced outdoor radioactive particles brought indoors by visitors. 210Pb is considered to be a good tracer of secondary aerosols produced by gas-to-particle conversion. Inside the Museum, the highest level of gross alpha activity was detected in the PM-10 fraction, and was mainly due to the uranium isotopes (234U, 235U and 238U) and their daughter products (226Ra, 232Th, 210Po or 224Ra), and 137Cs. The minimum and maximum total indicative doses per 8 h are caused by 137Cs and 232Th, respectively.  相似文献

Laser ablation has been combined with dual tunable diode laser absorption spectrometry to measure 152Gd:160Gd isotope ratios in micron-size particles. The diode lasers are tuned to specific isotopes in two different atomic transitions at 405.9 nm (152Gd) and 413.4 nm (160Gd) and directed collinearly through the laser ablation plume, separated on a diffraction grating, and detected with photodiodes to monitor transient absorption signals on a shot-by-shot basis. The method has been characterized first using Gd metal foil and then with particles of GdCl3·xH20 as binary and ternary mixtures with 152Gd:160Gd isotope ratios ranging from 0.01 to 0.43. These particulate mixtures have been diluted with Columbia River sediment powder (SRM 4350B) to simulate environmental samples and we show the method is capable of detecting a few highly-enriched particles in the presence of a >100-fold excess of low-enrichment particles, even when the Gd-bearing particles are a minor component (0.08%) in the SRM powder and widely dispersed (1178 particles detected in 800,000 ablation laser shots). The implications for monitoring 235U:238U enrichment ratios in airborne particle samples, as related to the nuclear industry, are discussed.  相似文献

In the ESR spectra recorded at the beginning of the doping reaction of C60 fullerene by zinc, gallium, and indium vapors, signals corresponding to C60 were observed. In the course of reduction, these signals disappeared and reversibly transformed into the signals of higher charged C60 n− anions. The use of beta radionuclides for treatment in radiotherapies leads for a need of better understanding of interactions and local energy depositions of beta particles within tissue and tissue equivalent media. The aim of this work is to determine microdosimetric quantities for various radionuclides. Specific energy, z, and its distribution, $ f(z) $ , mean specific energy, $ \bar{z} $ , and its standard deviations, $ \sigma \left( {\bar{z}_{f} } \right) $ , were evaluated for typical single cell where nucleus is the cellular region of interest. Three possible positions of radionuclides were taken into account—cellular membrane, cytoplasm and nucleoplasm. Taking these regions as the source of radiation, microdosimetric quantities were calculated for beta emitting radionuclides: 191Os, 199Au, 177Lu, 67Cu, 77As, 131I, 186Re, 32P, 188Re and 90Y. It was found that low range beta emitters have the largest efficiency and can deliver radiation doses up to 1 mGy per decay. Determination of the specific energy and its distribution for radionuclides is a useful start in order to determine beta emitters for a particular radionuclide therapy.  相似文献

A pair of premixed, H2O2Ar flames of fuel-rich (FR) and fuel-lean (FL) composition, both at atmospheric pressure and 2425 K, were doped with about 10−6 mol fraction of the lanthanide metals La, Ce, Pr and Nd; from a previous study, La was used as a benchmark. The metals produce solid particles in the flames and gaseous metallic species. The latter include metallic atoms A near the flame reaction zone, but only the monoxide AO, the oxide hydroxide OAOH and, in some cases, the dioxide AO2 further downstream at equilibrium. Metallic ions (< 1% of the total metal) were observed by sampling the flames through a nozzle into a mass spectrometer. All of the observed ions can be represented by four hydrate series: (a) major signals of AO+·nH2O (n = 0–3) for La, Ce, Pr and Nd; (b) small signals of AO2H+·nH2O (n = 0–2) for Ce, Pr and Nd; (c) still smaller signals of AO2+·nH2O (n = 0, 1) for Ce, Pr and Nd in the FL flame only; and (d) tiny signals of AOH+·nH2O (n = 0, 1) for Pr and Nd in the FR flame only. The actual structures of some of these ions may not correspond to simple hydrates: e.g. AO+·H2O = A(OH)2+ = protonated OAOH; AO2H+·H2O = A(OH)3+, etc. Since hydrogen flames contain essentially no natural ionization, a major objective was to consider probable ionization mechanisms for the metals. The primary reactions include both chemi-ionization, and thermal (collisional) ionization of AO whose ionization energy is low (about 5 eV). Some of the ions are formed by secondary ion/molecule reactions including three-body hydration, proton transfer, electron (charge) transfer, H atom abstraction by radicals and oxidation. In addition, the chemical ionization of the metallic species by H3O+ was investigated. The flame-ion chemistry of these metals is discussed in detail.  相似文献

Model aqueous dispersions of polystyrene, poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(n-butyl acrylate) and a statistical copolymer poly(n-butyl acrylate-co-methyl methacrylate) were studied using xenon NMR spectroscopy. The 129Xe NMR spectra of these various latexes reveal qualitative and quantitative differences in the number of peaks and in their line widths and chemical shifts. Above the glass transition temperature, exchange between xenon sorbed in the particle core and free xenon outside the particles is fast on the 129Xe spectral time-scale and a single 129Xe signal is observed. At temperatures below the glass transition temperature, the exchange between sorbed and free xenon is slow on the 129Xe spectral time-scale and two 129Xe NMR signals can be observed. If the signal of sorbed 129Xe is observed, its chemical shift, line width and integral relative to the integral of free 129Xe can be used for the characterization of the particle core. The line width of free 129Xe provides the residence time of xenon outside the particles and can be used to determine the rate constant characterizing the kinetics of penetration of xenon in the particles. This rate constant emerges as promising parameter for the characterization of the polymer particle surface.  相似文献

A sequential analytical method for the determination of238U,234U,232Th,230Th,228Th,228Ra,226Ra and210Pb in environmental samples was developed. Uranium and thorium isotopes are first chromatographically sepaaated using tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO) supported on silica gel. The uranium isotopes are determined by alpha-spectrometry following extraction with TOPO onto a polymeric membrane. Thorium isotopes are co-precipitated with lanthanum fluoride before counting in an alpha spectrometer. Radium isotopes and210Pb are separated by co-precipitation/precipitation with mixed barium/lead sulphate. Radium-226 is determined by gross alpha counting of the final BaSO4 precipitate and228Ra by gross beta counting of the same source. Lead-210 is determined through beta counting of its daughter product210Bi.  相似文献

Uranium single particle analysis has been performed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and the performances are compared with that provided by scanning electron microsopy and single particle counting. The transient signal induced by the flash of ions due to the ionisation of an uranium colloidal particle in the plasma torch can be detected and measured for selected uranium ion masses (238U+, 235U+ or 254[238U16O]+) by the mass spectrometer. The signals recorded via time scanning are analysed as a function of particle size or fraction of the studied element or isotope in the colloid phase. The frequency of the flashes is directly proportional to the concentration of particles in the colloidal suspension. The feasibility tests were performed on uranium dioxide particles. The study also describes the experimental conditions and the choice of mass to detect uranium colloids in a single particle analysis mode.  相似文献

The determination of isotope ratios in individual uranium particles is very important for nuclear safeguards. In this work, accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) were applied to isotope ratio analysis of individual uranium particles and compared in terms of background, measurement accuracy, and efficiency. Several individual uranium particles (1–7 μm) from certified reference materials were used as samples. The results show that the average values of blank counting rate of 235U for AMS, FT-TIMS (FT: fission track), SEM-TIMS (SEM: scanning electron microscope), and SIMS were 7.3, 7.8, 2.7 and 2.2 cps, respectively. The relative error of 234U/235U and 234U/236U isotope ratios of the particles from U200 for AMS were within 10% and 20%, whereas the results of FT-TIMS and SIMS were within 5% and 10%, respectively. The relative error and external precision of 234U/238U and 235U/238U of the particles from U850 for the method of AMS, SEM-TIMS, and SIMS were within 10% and 5%, respectively. For 236U/238U, the average values of the relative error and external precision measured by AMS were within 5%, which measured by SEM-TIMS and SIMS were all within 10%. AMS has advantages in measuring 236U/238U. The measurement time of AMS and SEM-TIMS was shorter than that of FT-TIMS and longer than that of SIMS. It is considered that AMS and SEM-TIMS have a certain development prospect, and it is necessary to research deeply.  相似文献

Data evaluation is a crucial step when it comes to the determination of accurate and precise isotope ratios computed from transient signals measured by multi-collector–inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS) coupled to, for example, laser ablation (LA). In the present study, the applicability of different data evaluation strategies (i.e. ‘point-by-point’, ‘integration’ and ‘linear regression slope’ method) for the computation of 235U/238U isotope ratios measured in single particles by LA-MC-ICPMS was investigated. The analyzed uranium oxide particles (i.e. 9073-01-B, CRM U010 and NUSIMEP-7 test samples), having sizes down to the sub-micrometre range, are certified with respect to their 235U/238U isotopic signature, which enabled evaluation of the applied strategies with respect to precision and accuracy. The different strategies were also compared with respect to their expanded uncertainties. Even though the ‘point-by-point’ method proved to be superior, the other methods are advantageous, as they take weighted signal intensities into account. For the first time, the use of a ‘finite mixture model’ is presented for the determination of an unknown number of different U isotopic compositions of single particles present on the same planchet. The model uses an algorithm that determines the number of isotopic signatures by attributing individual data points to computed clusters. The 235U/238U isotope ratios are then determined by means of the slopes of linear regressions estimated for each cluster. The model was successfully applied for the accurate determination of different 235U/238U isotope ratios of particles deposited on the NUSIMEP-7 test samples.  相似文献

Ultrafine -SiC with high surface area (150 m2 g–1) has been synthesized by inflight processing of charred rice husk in a r.f. plasma reactor operating at atmospheric pressure. The plasma-synthesized particles were doped with platinum (1%) and tested as a catalytic support material. The catalyst (1% Pt doped -SiC) showed 100% conversion of CO to CO2 at a temperature as low as 175°C.  相似文献

This paper presents the design and characterization of a prototype compact beta–gamma radioxenon detection system that utilizes a coplanar CdZnTe crystal, an array of SiPMs, and a plastic scintillator. The detector is directly mounted on a custom PCB. The system provides the advantage of room-temperature operation, while being compact, low noise, and with simple readout electronics. Preliminary measurements using 137Cs, 135Xe, and 133/133mXe were conducted to optimize various system parameters to achieve optimal resolution of key photopeaks. The purpose of this research was to explore the potential of these radiation detection elements for use in beta–gamma coincidence applications.  相似文献

A chemical procedure for transferring deposited solid matter from a cellulose filter into the liquid scintillation cocktail has been described. The influence of chemical and color quenching on alpha and beta detection efficiency, as well as on misclassification of beta and alpha pulses was corrected by an external standard method. Under the chosen pulse shape discrimination level (PSD), the alpha and beta detection efficiencies were above 85% and spillovers of alpha and beta pulses were below 10% and 2% respectively. Determination limits for samples containing up to 200 mg of mineral matter were 0.015 mBq m–3 for alpha, 0.055 mBq.m–3 for210Pb and 0.055 mBq.m–3 for beta activity (counting time 12000 s and volume of filtered air 1000 m3). The method has been applied for routine monitoring of210Pb as well as for gross alpha and beta activities of longer-living radionuclides (T1/2.>11 hrs) in suspended air matter.  相似文献
