We present extensive molecular dynamics simulations on species segregation in a granular mixture subject to vertical taps. We discuss how grain properties, e.g., size, density, friction, as well as shaking properties, e.g., amplitude and frequency, affect such a phenomenon. Both the Brazil nut effect (larger particles on the top, BN) and the reverse Brazil nut effect (larger particles on the bottom, RBN) are found and we derive the system comprehensive "segregation diagram" and the BN to RBN crossover line. We also discuss the role of friction and show that particles which differ only for their frictional properties segregate in states depending on the tapping acceleration and frequency.  相似文献

In the Brazil nut problem (BNP), hard spheres with larger diameters rise to the top. There are various explanations (percolation, reorganization, convection), but a broad understanding or control of this effect is by no means achieved. A theory is presented for the crossover from BNP to the reverse Brazil nut problem based on a competition between the percolation effect and the condensation of hard spheres. The crossover condition is determined, and theoretical predictions are compared to molecular dynamics simulations in two and three dimensions.  相似文献

It has been recently reported that a granular mixture in which grains differ in their restitution coefficients presents segregation: the more inelastic particles sink to the bottom. When other segregation mechanisms as buoyancy and the Brazil nut effect are present, the inelasticity induced segregation can compete with them. First, a detailed analysis, based on numerical simulations of two dimensional systems, of the competition between buoyancy and the inelasticity induced segregation is presented, finding that there is a transition line in the parameter space that determines which mechanism is dominant. In the case of neutrally buoyant particles having different sizes the inelasticity induced segregation can compete with the Brazil nut effect (BNE). Reverse Brazil nut effect (RBNE) could be obtained at large inelasticities of the intruder. At intermediate values, BNE and RBNE coexist and large inelastic particles are found both near the bottom and at the top of the system.  相似文献

采用离散单元模型对巴西果问题进行了模拟研究,采用本数学模型可以准确地预测出垂直机械振动导致的不同大小颗粒的分离现象.分析了影响振动床内颗粒分层的因素,讨论了振动频率、振动幅度等参数对分层的影响,发现振动频率和振动幅度会对分离效果造成较大的影响.当振动频率或振动幅度较小时,颗粒整体分离效果都较差,但分离的稳定性较好,当振动频率或振动幅度较大时,整体分离效果仍然较差,同时分离的稳定性也较差,振动分离过程中存在一个频率和振幅适中的最优操作点. 关键词: 分层 振动 模式形成 离散单元方法  相似文献

用分子动力学的方法研究了颗粒密度对旋转筒内二元颗粒体系混合与分离的影响. 当增大粒度较小的颗粒密度时, 颗粒体系表现为巴西果效应, 而增加粒度较大的颗粒密度时, 分离状态则会发生反转, 表现为反巴西果效应. 进一步的研究发现二元颗粒体系的分离指数与颗粒的密度比之间存在定量的关系, 并利用Hong的渗流与凝聚竞争机理理论对密度分离状态的反转现象给予了理论解释.  相似文献

In order to study analytically the nature of the size segregation in granular mixtures, we introduce a mean field theory in the framework of a statistical mechanics approach, based on Edwards' original ideas. For simplicity we apply the theory to a lattice model for a hard sphere binary mixture under gravity, and we find a new purely thermodynamic mechanism that gives rise to the size segregation phenomenon. By varying the number of small grains and the mass ratio, we find a crossover from the Brazil nut to the reverse Brazil nut effect, which becomes a true phase transition when the number of small grains is larger then a critical value. We suggest that this transition is induced by the effective attraction between large grains due to the presence of small ones (depletion force). Finally the theoretical results are confirmed by numerical simulations of the 3d system under taps.  相似文献

It is demonstrated that the minimization of the free energy functional for hard spheres and hard disks yields the result that excited granular materials under gravity segregate not only in the widely known "Brazil nut" fashion, i.e., with the larger particles rising to the top, but also in reverse "Brazil nut" fashion. Specifically, the local density approximation is used to investigate the crossover between the two types of segregation occurring in the liquid state, and the results are found to agree qualitatively with previously published results of simulation and of a simple model based on condensation.  相似文献

在竖直振动两种颗粒的混合物的实验中,观察到了一种新的分离现象——“三明治”式分离,即大而重的颗粒被夹在两层小的轻颗粒之间.这不同于“巴西果”效应导致的大而重的颗粒在上的两层有序结构.实验表明当振动加速度大于某个临界值时这种三层有序将取代两层结构,而且是稳定的.实验中观察到导致“三明治”式分离的两种不同的分离过程.对这两种过程的物理机理及其与振动加速度、振动频率及颗粒尺寸等因素的关系做了研究,并给出了相图. 关键词: 颗粒物质 振动 有序结构 三明治式分离 巴西果效应  相似文献

We report the first three-dimensional molecular dynamics simulation of particle segregation by shaking. Two different containers are considered: one cylindrical and another with periodic boundary conditions. 运用事件驱动算法研究颗粒混合物在垂直振动容器中的振荡现象.容器被具有一定高度的隔板分成相等大小的两个小室,并采用半径相差一倍的两种颗粒.研究结果表明,颗粒振荡周期随两种颗粒密度比的减少而急剧增加.通过计算在垂直方向上两种颗粒高度之比随颗粒密度的变化关系,说明决定颗粒振荡与否的主要因素并不是"巴西坚果效应"或"反巴西坚果效应".通过计算颗粒温度,发现颗粒振荡取决于颗粒混合气体的小颗粒温度.当小颗粒温度大于一定值时,颗粒混合气体发生颗粒振荡现象.根据Viridi等提出的流体动力学模型,文中对该模型做出相应的修改,加入密度因子,从而可以解释颗粒振荡周期与颗粒密度比的关系.  相似文献

在垂直振动的激励下, 铜和玻璃珠组成的二元颗粒混合样品存在依次出现分界清晰的三明治, 巴西果, 反巴西果三种分聚结构的周期循环变化现象, 其中出现三明治结构的时段最长(大于90%). 循环周期随振动台频率的增加而增大, 随加速度的增加而减小. 对三种分聚结构的样品能量耗散功率的测量显示, 在相同的振动条件下反巴西果结构的能耗功率最大, 巴西果结构的最小. 利用Hong的凝聚和渗透两机理相互竞争的观点, 并结合能耗功率的测量结果, 可定性解释这个周期性分聚现象.  相似文献

在对垂直振动下的铜颗粒和氧化铝颗粒混合物的研究中,除了观测到巴西果分层和混合分层外,还发现了一种新的随时间周期变化的分离形态. 此分离形态可随着时间的演化,在巴西果、反巴西果和三明治这几种分层构型之间进行动态的循环反转. 给出了这种反转态出现的相区,并且观测了其动态转变的规律. 根据碰撞、磨擦及空气的耗散作用所产生的耗散结构对循环反转态的出现给出了定性的解释,并通过实验证实这种分层构型与空气的存在有密切的关系. 关键词: 颗粒物质 巴西果效应 相分离  相似文献

The idea of manipulating the interaction between ultracold fermionic alkaline-earth (like) atoms via a laser-induced periodical synthetic magnetic field was proposed in Kanász-Nagy et al (2018 Phys. Rev. B 97, 155156). In that work, it was shown that in the presence of the shaking synthetic magnetic field, two atoms in 1S0 and 3P0 states experience a periodical interaction in a rotated frame, and the effective inter-atomic interaction was approximated as the time-averaged operator of this time-dependent interaction. This technique is supposed to be efficient for 173Yb atoms which have a large natural scattering length. Here we examine this time-averaging approximation and derive the rate of the two-body loss induced by the shaking of the synthetic magnetic field, by calculating the zero-energy inter-atomic scattering amplitude corresponding to the explicit periodical interaction. We find that for the typical cases with shaking angular frequency λ of the synthetic magnetic field being of the order of (2π) kHz, the time-averaging approximation is applicable only when the shaking amplitude is small enough. Moreover, the two-body loss rate increases with the shaking amplitude, and is of the order of 10−10 cm3 · s−1 or even larger when the time-averaging approximation is not applicable. Our results are helpful for the quantum simulations with ultracold gases of fermionic alkaline-earth (like) atoms.  相似文献

We present a dynamical model-independent, ab initio parametrization of the quadrupole transition amplitude for photo-double-ionization of He. An asymmetry of the triple differential cross section induced by the nondipole corrections is discussed and shown to be significant even for an excess energy as low as 80 eV. We provide predictions for two different kinds of experiments in which nondipole effects should be observable with current experimental capabilities.  相似文献

We have observed tunneling suppression and photon-assisted tunneling of Bose-Einstein condensates in an optical lattice subjected to a constant force plus a sinusoidal shaking. For a sufficiently large constant force, the ground energy levels of the lattice are shifted out of resonance and tunneling is suppressed; when the shaking is switched on, the levels are coupled by low-frequency photons and tunneling resumes. Our results agree well with theoretical predictions and demonstrate the usefulness of optical lattices for studying solid-state phenomena.  相似文献

Theoretically there are two approaches to predict single spin azimuthal asymmetries. One is to take transverse momenta of the partons into account by using transverse momentum dependent parton distributions, while another is to take asymmetries as twist-3 effects. The non-perturbative effects in these approaches are parameterized with different matrix elements, and predictions can be different. Recently, gauge invariant definitions of transverse momentum dependent parton distributions were derived. With these definitions it can be shown that there are relations between non-perturbative matrix elements in these two approaches. These relations may enable us to unify two approaches and to have unique predictions for single spin azimuthal asymmetries. In this letter we derive these relations by using time-reversal symmetry and show that even with these relations the single spin azimuthal asymmetry in a Drell-Yan process is predicted differently in different approaches.Received: 2 July 2004, Published online: 24 September 2004  相似文献

We report the amplitude scaling behavior of Frenkel exciton chains with nearest-neighbor correlated off-diagonal random interactions. The band center spectrum and its localization properties are investigated through the integrated density of states and the inverse localization length. The correlated random interactions are produced through a binary sequence similar to the interactions in spin glass chains. We produced sets of data with different interaction strength and “wrong” sign concentrations that collapsed after scaling to the predictions of a theory developed earlier for Dirac fermions with random-varying mass. We found good agreement as the energy approaches the band center for a wide range of concentrations. We have also established the concentration dependence of the lowest order expansion coefficient of the scaling amplitudes for the correlated case. The correlation causes unusual behavior of the spectra, i.e., deviations from the Dyson-type singularity.  相似文献

We have studied, through Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, the effect of elastic scattering and the presence of a real surface on the angular distribution and attenuation of the no-energy-loss electron emission. We performed two kinds of MC approaches, with and without surface, altering the ratio among elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections to enhance the elastic scattering effect. We found that angular distribution is always affected by the elastic scattering, meanwhile the attenuation law shape is only altered in the presence of a real surface and elastic scattering together. We also compared simulation results with analytical model predictions.  相似文献

This mini-review is concerned with two-dimensional colloidal mixtures exposed to various kinds of external fields. By a magnetic field perpendicular to the plane, dipole moments are induced in paramagnetic particles which give rise to repulsive interactions leading to complex crystalline alloys in the composition-asymmetry diagram. A quench in the magnetic field induces complex crystal nucleation scenarios. If exposed to a gravitational field, these mixtures exhibit a brazil–nut effect and show a boundary layering which is explained in terms of a depletion bubble picture. The latter persists for time-dependent gravity (“colloidal shaking”). Finally, we summarize crystallization effects when the second species is frozen in a disordered matrix which provides obstacles for the crystallizing component.  相似文献

We quantify the important effect of strong final state interactions in the weak K-->2pi amplitudes, using the measured pi-pi phase shifts with J = 0 and I = 0,2. The final rescattering of the two pions provides a strong enhancement of the DeltaI = 1/2 amplitude, which so far has been neglected in the theoretical predictions of varepsilon(')/varepsilon. This correction increases the standard model prediction of varepsilon(')/varepsilon to values in good agreement with the experimental measurements.  相似文献
