Numerical Modeling and Simulation of a Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Polarizer

A numerical model based on Berreman’s 4 × 4 matrix approach was developed and used for computational simulation of a cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) polarizer. Explicit expressions of the 4 × 4 propagation matrices for several optical films, which constitute a CLC polarizer, were presented. Numerical simulations for optical properties of a CLC layer, a linear polarizer and a CLC polarizer were executed, and the simulated results were found to be in fairly good agreement with measured results.     

梳状电极胆甾相液晶激光器的激光辐射谱

设计制作了梳状电极染料掺杂胆甾相液晶激光器件,研究了外加电压下的激光辐射谱。器件的下基板ITO电极刻蚀成梳状条形电极,电极宽度约2 mm,相邻电极间距分别约为1,3,5 mm。上基板无ITO电极。上下基板取向膜平行摩擦取向处理,使胆甾相液晶平面态排列。以532 nm的Nd∶YAG激光器作为泵浦光源,测量器件激光辐射谱。改变外加电压0~100 V,3个区域均出现了多模输出。在1 mm电极间距区域,可获得633.65~621.52 nm（12 nm）和683.15~664.35 nm（18 nm）的可调谐波长范围;在电极间距3,5 mm区域,辐射激光波长变化微小。在外加电压作用下,液晶分子均匀的螺旋周期排列受到扰动,液晶分子层螺旋轴倾斜,各个液晶畴的螺旋轴取向不一致,使有效螺距值缩短并有所浮动,引起出射激光波长蓝移和多模输出。利用光子态密度理论数值模拟了激光辐射谱。当有效螺距为倾斜角的函数时,随着倾斜角增大出射激光波长蓝移。     

胆甾相液晶散射光的特性研究

基于胆甾相液晶的电光特性,进行了液晶散射光相干性与不同外加电场之间关系的实验研究.利用反转剪切干涉仪具体测量了不同外加电压条件下液晶散射光的空间相干性,得出了液晶散射光相干性随外加电场变化的初步规律.结果表明,胆甾相液晶散射光的强度以及空间相干性可以由外加电场调制.     

Tunable Photonic Band Gaps In Photonic Crystal Fibers Filled With a Cholesteric Liquid Crystal

A photonic crystal fiber has been filled with a cholesteric liquid crystal. A temperature sensitive photonic band gap effect was observed, which was especially pronounced around the liquid crystal phase transition temperature.     

螺状相液晶旋光特性理论模拟与实验研究

利用旋光理论模拟了一种用于螺状相液晶显示器(CH-LCD)的螺状相液晶的旋光率与入射波长、螺距的关系,并从理论上给予定量分析;用磁光调制倍频法测试了这种螺状相液晶旋光率随温度变化的规律,并利用所测的旋光率的值计算得出这种螺状相液晶的螺距、折射率、及双折射率随温度变化的规律;对模拟结果给予了实验验证。     

Photon Density of States in a Cholesteric Photonic Crystal

The photon density of states in a cholesteric photonic crystal in the region of the photon band has been determined from the measured polarized luminescence spectra. The orientational ordering of the transition dipole moment in luminescence, as well as the ellipticity of light eigenmodes in the photonic crystal, has been taken into account when determining the density of states. Maxima in the spectrum of the density of states on two sides of the photonic band are related to the displacement of states from the band. The group velocity of light inside the photonic band exceeds the speed of light in vacuum.     

Lattice Textures in Cholesteric Liquid Crystals

Based on the Landau-De Gennes expansion of the free energy in powers of a symmetric traceless order parameter we discuss the energetics of various phases as a function of temperature and cholestericity.     

基于矩阵理论的螺旋液晶透射光偏振态研究

将螺旋型液品看作是N层双折射材料晶片叠合而成,而每层光轴相对于相邻的晶片有一个小的旋转.本文基于矩阵理论,研究了光在螺旋液晶中传输时偏振态的变化.经过详细的数学推导,理论研究表明.线性偏振光经过螺旋液晶后偏振态会发生改变.当满足一定的条件时,线偏振光的偏振方向旋转90°,左旋圆偏振光经过左旋螺旋液晶后转变为右旋圆偏振光.     

复指数矩阵法研究螺旋液晶光学传播特性

提出一种研究螺旋液晶光学特性的数学处理方法.螺旋型液晶可当作N层双折射材料晶片叠合而成,而相邻晶片的光轴依次旋转一个小角度.在光学转换矩阵中引入复数来研究螺旋型液晶光学性能,给出了相关的数学处理方法.研究了线性偏振光在螺旋液晶中的传播特性,并给出了光经过螺旋液晶后电场强度的矩阵表达式.研究发现,如果入射光波长等于螺旋液晶螺距,线偏振光经过右螺旋液晶后是左旋圆偏振光.理论上分析了螺旋液晶对可见光选择性反射机理.

一种反射式扭曲向列型液晶显示优化设计的新方法

基于扭曲向列型液晶的显示器件通过调制光波的偏振态实现显示的目的,因此光波的偏振状态在其中起了极为关键的作用.本文结合琼斯矩阵和表示光波偏振态的斯托克斯参量j-circle方法,提出了一种优化反射式扭曲向列型液晶显示器件的新方法.该方法与原有的空间参量方法不同的是采用了追踪光波在传播过程中偏振态变化的办法得到反射式液晶显示器件中各光学元件的参数.该方法简单直观并且可以对多个参数同时进行优化,实现了显示性能的最优化设计并得到了新的显示模式.     

Collisions of Two-Phase Liquid Droplets in a Heated Gas Medium

The paper presents the experimental research findings for the integral characteristics of processes developing when two-phase liquid droplets collide in a heated gas medium. The experiments were conducted in a closed heat exchange chamber space filled with air. The gas medium was heated to 400–500 °C by an induction system. In the experiments, the size of initial droplets, their velocities and impact angles were varied in the ranges typical of industrial applications. The main varied parameter was the percentage of vapor (volume of bubbles) in the droplet (up to 90% of the liquid volume). The droplet collision regimes (coalescence, bounce, breakup, disruption), size and number of secondary fragments, as well as the relative volume fraction of vapor bubbles in them were recorded. Differences in the collision regimes and in the distribution of secondary fragments by size were identified. The areas of liquid surface before and after the initial droplet breakup were determined. Conditions were outlined in which vapor bubbles had a significant and, on the contrary, fairly weak effect on the interaction regimes of two-phase droplets.     

格子Boltzmann方法模拟双液滴撞击液膜的流动过程

采用单相自由面格子Boltzmann方法中流场计算,自由面条件和表面张力处理方法,研究双液滴撞击液膜的流动过程,实现对垂直间隔的两液滴相继撞击液膜流动过程的模拟.数值结果表明,液滴相继冲击液膜时,液滴间上下距离对液膜状态有很大的影响,液滴间距不同,液膜形状会出现很大差异.数值结果与实验结论定性一致.     

Numerical Simulation of Droplets Impacting on a Liquid Film with a Vapor Bubble Growing

A numerical model of multiphase flow is developed to investigate the relative contributions of droplet parameters to spray cooling heat transfer. The 2-D model takes into account the effects of surface tension, gravity and viscosity. The heat and mass exchanges of free surface are defined to study vapor bubble behavior in liquid films. The multiphase flow and heat transfer are discussed for the three droplet parameters： initial droplet position, initial droplet temperature, and droplet impact frequency. The heat transfer mechanisms of the three cases are discussed in detail.
