The chemical composition of the essential oil from the aerial parts of three Lamiaceae species from Uzbekistan was investigated by GC-MS analysis. β-Linalool (26.6%), α-terpineol (10.0%), coumarin (8.9%) and 4,5,7,7α-tetrahydro-4,4,7α-trimethyl-2(6H)-benzofuranone (5.4%) resulted as the main components of Ajuga turkestanica essential oil, while camphene (17.1%), 1,8-cineole (15.9%), β-cymene (7.9%) and limonene (7.4%) in Phlomis regelii. The essential oil of Thymus seravschanicus was dominated by thymol (37.5%), phellandral (26.0%), τ-terpinene (6.6%) and β-cymene (5.2%). The essential oils had considerable antimicrobial activity against different bacterial strains and fungi. Among the tested samples of essential oils, P. regelii essential oil has the significant antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 117.8 ± 8.02 μg/mL.  相似文献

This study describes the seasonal composition and the antibacterial, antioxidant and anticholinesterase activity of the essential oil from Eugenia brasiliensis leaves. Analysis by using GC allowed the identification of 40 compounds. It was observed that the monoterpenes varied more (42%) than the sesquiterpenes (14%), and that the monoterpene hydrocarbons suffered the greatest variation throughout the year (64%). Major compounds were spathulenol in the spring (16.02 ± 0.44%) and summer (18.17 ± 0.41%), τ-cadinol in the autumn (12.83 ± 0.03%) and α-pinene (15.94 ± 0.58%) in the winter. Essential oils were tested for their antibacterial activity, and the best result was obtained from the autumn oil, with MIC = 500 μg mL? 1 against Staphylococcus saprophyticus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH, lipid peroxidation and iron-reducing power assays, as well as the anticholinesterase activity. Well diffusion method was used to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Eucalyptus camaldulensis, while the antifungal effect was assessed by calculating the reduction percent in the radial growth of mycelia. The inhibition zones exerted by E. camaldulensis crude extracts varied significantly (p ≤ 0.01). The capsule crude extract (acetone 30%) highly inhibited the growth of Acinetobacter baumannii (35 mm clear zone). The highest antifungal activity was against Rhizopus stolonifer with a reduction percent in its radial growth reached to 96%. The bacterial MICs ranged from 20 to 0.5 mg/mL against Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis respectively. The MIC values for fungi were between 18 mg/mL (Mucor sp.) and 4 mg/mL (R. stolonifer). Both type and concentration of the solvent greatly affected the antimicrobial potentials of E. camaldulensis. The empty capsule and bud of E. camaldulensis are recognized for the first time as potentially natural resources of effective antimicrobial agents.  相似文献

Eucalyptus oils are widely used for a variety of purposes. This study investigates the terpenoid compositions and antibacterial and antioxidant activities of eucalypt leaf oils extracted from four E. urophylla clones and one E. urophylla × E. camaldulensis hybrid clone grown in Thailand. According to GC/MS analysis, the E. urophylla oils were mainly composed of 1,8-cineole, α-terpinyl acetate, β-caryophyllene, and spathulenol, while 1,8-cineole, α-terpinyl acetate, p-cymene, and γ-terpinene were mostly identified in the hybrid oil. All eucalypt oils exhibited a significant bacteriostatic effect against Gram-positive bacteria, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, and Bacillus cereus. Only the hybrid oil had an effect on all Gram-negative bacteria tested, including Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter aerogenes. These oils have antibacterial properties that vary according to their terpenoid content. Only the hybrid oil had a potent antioxidant effect, with an IC50 value of 4.21 ± 0.35 mg/mL for free radical (DPPH) scavenging. This oil’s antioxidant effect may be a result of the phenolic terpenoids, thymol and carvacrol. As a result, these oils may be a novel source of antibacterial and antioxidant agents. Additionally, the antibacterial and antioxidant capabilities of the E. urophylla × E. camaldulensis hybrid essential oil are reported for the first time.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to determine the chemical composition, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of the essential oils from Cynanchum chinense and Ligustrum compactum and isolation of antioxidant and antibacterial constituents from the essential oils. Thirty-eight components were identified in essential oils. Based on bioactivity-guided fractionation, guaiacol, linalool and 2-phenylethanol were isolated and identified as active constituents. Both L. compactum flower oil and 2-phenylethanol showed high antibacterial performance, with inhibition zone from 22.8 ± 0.8 to 11.9 ± 2.0 mm at highest concentration, and minimum inhibitory concentration values ranging from 0.25% to 1%. In both DPPH and ABTS assay, the active constituent guaiacol (IC50 = 4.15 ± 0.72 and 9.12 ± 0.98 μg mL? 1, respectively) exhibited high antioxidant activity, and the oils showed moderate antioxidant activity. These results indicate potential efficacy of active constituents and essential oils of L. compactum and C. chinense to control food-borne pathogenic and spoilage bacteria.  相似文献

The present study was designed to determine the composition of the essential oil of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. leaves and to examine its in vitro antioxidant and antidiabetic activities. The chemical composition of the essential oil from Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. leaves was analyzed by GC/GC-MS, twenty-nine compounds representing 99.10% of the total oil were identified. The major components of the oil were p-cymene (68.43%), 1,8-cineole (13.92%), 1-(S)-α-pinene (3.45%) and R-(+)- limonene (2.84%). The antioxidant features of the essential oil were evaluated using inhibition of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, hydroxyl, and superoxide radicals, inhibition of hydrogen peroxide and lipid peroxidation assays. We also studied α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition in vitro to assess the antidiabetic properties of the essential oil. Both α-amylase and α-glucosidase were inhibited by a non-competitive mechanism.  相似文献

The present study investigated the essential oil obtained from Campomanesia guazumifolia (Cambess.) O. Berg, an aromatic plant used in Brazilian folk medicine. The chemical composition was performed by GC×GC/qMS. The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities were evaluated by DPPH and BCB and, MIC assays, respectively. Sixty-eight compounds were identified in the oil, where the major compounds were bicyclogermacrene (15%), globulol (5%) and spathulenol (5%). Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (29 compounds) and oxygenated sesquiterpenes (20 compounds) were the most representative classes of terpenes. DPPH (IC50 value 26.1 ± 0.5 μg/mL) and BCB (68.3 ± 1.5%) values indicated a significant antioxidant activity. The essential oil strongly inhibited Staphylococcus aureus (MIC 15 ± 0.1 μg/mL), Escherichia coli (MIC 25 ± 0.2 μg/mL) and Candida albicans (MIC 5 ± 0.1 μg/mL). The results give a deeper understanding of the chemical composition and report for the first time the antioxidant and antimicrobial potential of the C. guazumifolia essential oil.  相似文献

Three new chromenone glucosides acylated with monoterpene acids, eucamaldusides A ( 1 ), B ( 2 ), and C ( 3 ), were isolated from the leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis var. obtusa, together with the five known compounds ursolic acid lactone, obtusilin, β‐sitosterol glucoside, 4‐hydroxybenzoic acid, and cypellocarpin C. The structures of the new compounds were established by exhaustive 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR spectroscopic studies. Their configuration was determined by measuring the [α]D of the known methyl esters of the monoterpene acids obtained by methanolysis of 1 – 3 .  相似文献

In the case of Achillea wilhelmsii, 30 compounds were identified representing 94.48% of the total oil with a yield of 0.82% w/w. The major constituents of the oil were described as α-thujene (6.11%), α-pinene (5.11%), sabinene (5.23%), p-cymene (7%), 1,8-cineole (6%), linalool (10%), camphor (8.43%), thymol (18.98%) and carvacrol (20.13%). A. wilhelmsii oil exhibited higher antibacterial and antifungal activities with a high effectiveness against Escherichia coli and Candida albicans with the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration/minimum fungicidal concentration value (2 ± 0.0–2 ± 0.0 g/mL, 1 ± 0.5–1 ± 0.5 g/mL), respectively. Results showed that A. wilhelmsii oil exhibits a higher activity in each antioxidant system with a special attention for β-carotene bleaching test (IC50: 19 μg/mL) and reducing power (EC50: 10 μg/mL). Antioxidant activity-guided fractionation of the oil was carried out by TLC-bioautography screening and fractionation resulted in the separation of main antioxidant compounds which were identified as thymol (65%) and carvacrol (19%). In conclusion, these results support the use of the essential oil and its main compounds for their antioxidant properties and antimicrobial activity.  相似文献

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) and Myrrh (Commiphora Myrrha) essential oils (EOs) stand out for their benefits in terms of health and functionality. Buffalo set yogurt enriched with different concentrations of EOs (0.3, 0.6, and 0.9%) were investigated. The effects of addition on sensory, syneresis, antibacterial activity, and bioactive properties (total phenol content and antioxidant activity) of yogurt were studied. The most acceptable organoleptic properties of treated yogurt were those samples treated with Eucalyptus oil. The levels of syneresis were decreased by increasing the concentration of EOs. Moreover, the antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, and total phenolic content were enhanced by increasing the concentration of EOs. Yogurt with 0.9% Eucalyptus oil showed the highest antioxidant activity and total phenolic content. The same concentration of Eucalyptus oil showed the highest antibacterial activity against S. typhimurium (the inhibition zone was 20.63 mm) then E. coli (the inhibition zone was 19.43 mm). On the other hand, the highest antibacterial effect against L. monocytogene was for Myrrh oil-enriched yogurt by 0.9% and the inhibition zone was 19.21 mm. The obtained results showed that Eucalyptus and Myrrh oils can be applied to yogurt to improve its beneficial properties in terms of physical characteristics and for human health due to their antioxidant activity and phenolic materials.  相似文献

Essential oils from flowers and leaves of Grindelia integrifolia DC. were investigated for the first time in terms of chemical composition and antimicrobial activity. The GC-FID/MS analysis allowed for the identification of 58 and 72 volatiles, comprising 92.4 and 90.1% of the oils, respectively. The major components of the flower oil were α-pinene (34.9%) and limonene (13.1%), while myrcene (16.9%), spathulenol (12.3%), β-eudesmol (11.9%) and limonene (10.1%) dominated among the leaf volatiles. The antimicrobial activity, evaluated against 12 selected bacteria and fungus, was found moderate, with the strongest effect of both oils observed against C. albicans (MIC = MBC: 0.63 and 0.31 mg/mL for flower and leaf oil, respectively).  相似文献

Summary The essential oils ofOriganum vulgare L. ssp.hirtum (Link) letswaart andOriganum vulgare L ssp.vulgare (Fam. Lamiaceae), cultivated in Hungary, have been studied by GC and GC-MS and the qualitative and quantitative chemical composition of the essential oils in the two species have been compared.O. vulgare ssp.hirtum oil was found to contain carvacrol (76.4%), γ-terpinene (6.6%), thymol (0.23%), andp-cymene (4.7%) as the main constituents whereas the major compounds inO. vulgare ssp.vulgare oil werep-cymene (22.3%), caryophyllene oxide (10.2%), sabinene (7.9%), γ-terpinene (5.1%), thymol (0.34%), and spathulenol (4.8%). The stability of content and composition of the oils during the flowering period (economically beneficial period) were observed. The effect of long-term storage on the composition of the oil was also investigated for both the crude and distilled oil ofOriganum vulgare ssp.vulgare. Natural oils (NOs) and essential oils (EOs) are widely used in the food and beverage, medical, aromatherapy and cosmetic industries, but little is known about their elemental composition or antioxidant ability. Microwave-assisted acid digestion and inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy were used to determine the non-toxic elements (Al, Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Na, Se and Zn) and potentially toxic elements (As, Cr, Cd, Mn, Ni and Pb) concentrations in 13 selected NOs and EOs. The per cent recoveries of laboratory-fortified blanks analysed for quality control were 94–110%. The elemental concentrations varied widely in NO and EO samples, as demonstrated by the large standard deviation obtained for some elements. The average levels of non-toxic elements (Al (14.5 ± 3.7 μg/g); Ca (278 ± 138 μg/g); Cu (7 ± 14 μg/g); Fe (16 ± 5 μg/g); K (36 ± 31 μg/g); Mg (56 ± 27 μg/g); Na (266 ± 277 μg/g); Se (0.7 ± 0.3 μg/g) and Zn (6.1 ± 2.6 μg/g)) were determined in NOs and EOs. Comparatively, low levels of potentially toxic elements (As (0.1 ± 0.2 μg/g); Cd (0.1 ± 0.0 μg/g); Cr (0.2 ± 0.1 μg/g); Mn (0.8 ± 0.1 μg/g); Ni (4.5 ± 2.2 μg/g); and Pb (0.3 ± 0.2 μg/g)) were obtained in the oils. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that the first two principal components explained 100% of the variability in the elemental concentrations. Na, Ca, Mg and K were the main contributors to PCA. Non-toxic element pairs were strongly correlated (R2 > 0.9440) indicating a common source in these oils, but toxic element pairs were poorly correlated. Although toxic element concentrations were low, routine monitoring in oils is recommended. The antioxidant ability of NOs and EOs to potentially reduce free radicals, which are often involved in several degenerative diseases, such as ageing, stroke, diabetes and cancers was determined by DPPH (2,2-di(4-tert-octylphenyl)-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging assay and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. Jasmine, castor and tea tree lemon oils were the best antioxidants. The oils in this study have the potential to replace artificial antioxidants used in foods, cosmetics and other products.  相似文献

Essential oils from aerial parts of Acantholippia deserticola, Artemisia proceriformis, Achillea micrantha and Libanotis buchtormensis were analysed by GC–MS. The major compounds identified were β-thujone (66.5 ± 0.2%), and trans-sabinyl acetate (12.1 ± 0.2%) in A. deserticola; α-thujone (66.9 ± 0.4%) in A. proceriformis; 1,8-cineole (26.9 ± 0.5%), and camphor (17.7 ± 0.3%) in A. micrantha and cis-β-ocimene (23.3 ± 0.3%), and trans-β-ocimene (18.4 ± 0.2%) in L. buchtormensis. The oils showed a weak antimicrobial effect (MIC100 > 1.5 mg/ml) on most phytopathogens tested. A moderate antimicrobial activity (MIC100 between 0.5 and 1.5 mg/ml) was displayed by the oils of A. deserticola, A. micrantha and L. buchtormensis on Septoria tritici and by the oil of A. deserticola on Septoria glycine. The antimicrobial activity was associated to the contents of β-thujone, trans-sabinyl acetate and trans-sabinol. Our results indicate that the tested essential oils have little inhibitory potency not suitable for use as plant protection products against the phytopathogens assayed.  相似文献

This study reports the chemical composition, antimicrobial activity and antioxidant properties of Psammogeton canescens essential oil (EO) and its main compounds. The EO was obtained from the aerial parts of P. canescens by hydrodistillation and analysed by using GC/MS. The main constituent was β-bisabolene (25%), followed by α-pinene (20%), apiole (15.34%), γ-terpinene (7.34%), p-cymene (5.35%), β-pinene (5.41%), camphene (5.12%), dill apiole (5%), myrcene (4.54%), colchicine (0.56), sylvestrene (0.56%), β-caryophyllene (0.45%), caryophyllene oxide (0.43%), (Z)-β-farnesene (0.32%), cembrene (0.21%), folic acid (0.21%), germacrene D (0.14) and β-sesquiphellandrene (0.13). β-Bisabolene exhibited strong antioxidant activity (14 ± 0.8 μg/mL). The EO of P. canescens was particularly active against Candida albicans and Escherichia coli, with the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentration values. In conclusion, these results support the use of the EO and its main compounds for their antioxidant properties and antimicrobial activity.  相似文献

Tanacetum species are consumed as tea in Turkey. We comparatively evaluated the phytochemical potentials and antioxidant activities of the essential oil and methanolic extracts of Tanacetum cilicicum. The chemical constitutes of T. cilicicum essential oil and antioxidant activity of this species was analysed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) method. Bicyclo (3,1,1) hept-2-en-4-ol (21.92%), camphor (15.56%) and 1,8-cineole (13.45%) which are oxygenated monoterpenes were found as the major constituents. Phenolic acids and flavonoids were quantificated by HPLC–UV. Catechin was found as the main component. The essential oils and methanolic extracts were evaluated by antioxidant activities. The leaves exhibited significant metal chelation activity with a value of 20.75 ± 4.63 μg/mL.  相似文献

Essential oil composition of Plectranthus asirensis grown in Saudi Arabia was chemically analysed for the first time by various gas chromatography techniques (GC–MS, GC–FID, Co–GC, LRI determination and database and literature searches) using two different stationary phase columns (polar and nonpolar). This analysis led to the characterisation of a total of 124 components representing 98.5% of the total oil composition. The results revealed that P. asirensis oil was mainly dominated by monoterpenoids (90.7%) in which most representative constituents were thymol (66.0 ± 0.36%), γ-terpinene (14.0 ± 0.18%), p-cymene (5.2 ± 0.06%) and β-caryophyllene (3.0 ± 0.03%). It is worth mentioning here that this is the first report on the phytochemical constituents of P. asirensis.  相似文献

Elsholtzia densa Benth. is a traditional aromatic herb used in the pharmaceutical and flavouring industries. To analyse and compare the chemical composition, the oils and nonvolatile compounds in E. densa and Mosla chinensis Maxim. were extracted via hydrodistillation, solvent extraction or ultrasound-assisted extraction. Seventy-three volatile compounds in the volatile oil (0.35 ± 0.06%) obtained by E. densa via hydrodistillation were investigated by gas chromatography–mass spectrometer and compared based on different parameters. Also, the antioxidant activity and α-glucosidase inhibitory effects of the five sub-fractions of the methanolic extract were studied and the ethyl acetate sub-fraction (EC50 = 7.9 μg/mL) and petroleum ether sub-fraction (EC50 = 0.0955 mg/mL) showed the strongest activity, respectively. This study has provided a scientific basis for scientific collection, effective development, use of E. densa Benth., and suggested that it can be used as a potential source of antioxidants in food and a potential candidate for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus.  相似文献

The present study evaluated eight genotypes of river red gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh.) and a hybrid (E. camaldulensis?×?E. urophylla) for mannitol-induced water deficit (WD) under photoautotrophic conditions using multivariate cluster analysis. Shoot height, plant dry weight, and chlorophyll a content in hybrid genotypes, 58H2 and 27A2, were maintained when exposed to 200 mM mannitol for 14 days. In addition, the diminution of photosynthetic abilities, i.e. maximum quantum yield of PSII, photon yield of PSII, photochemical quenching, and net photosynthetic rate, under WD was minimal in hybrid genotypes compared to that in selection clones of E. camaldulensis. Under WD condition, there was greater accumulation of proline in all genotypes. A positive relationship was observed between physiological and morphological attributes under WD stress. Using Ward’s cluster analysis, hybrid genotypes—H4, 58H2, and 27A2—were classified as water deficit tolerant.  相似文献

Aiming detection of circadian variation in the chemical composition of volatiles from Piper regnellii, the leaves were collected during four different periods (8, 12, 16 and 20 h) in the same day. After extraction by hydrodistillation and GC/MS analysis, no significant variation was observed for the main compounds: germacrene D (45.6 ± 1.5–51.4 ± 3.1%), α–chamigrene (8.9 ± 1.3–11.3 ± 2.7%) and β–caryophyllene (8.2 ± 0.9–9.5 ± 0.3%). Evaluation of in vitro cytotoxicity against several cancer and non-tumourigenic cells indicated promising activity, especially to HeLa (human cervical carcinoma) with IC50 ranging from 11 ± 3 to 17 ± 3 μg/mL. The obtained volatile oils were pooled and subjected to fractionation to afford pure β-caryophyllene, α-chamigrene and germacrene D, being this last compound the more active against HeLa cells with IC50 of 7 ± 1 μg/mL (34 ± 5 μM). Therefore, the predominance of germacrene D in all analysed oils could justify, at least in part, the activity observed for the volatile compounds from P. regnellii leaves.  相似文献
