X-ray irradiation was found to convert H(2)O at pressures above 2 GPa into a novel molecular H(2)-O(2) compound. We used optical Raman spectroscopy to explore the behavior of x-ray irradiated H(2)O samples as a function of pressure, time, and composition. The compound was found to be stable over a period of two years, as long as high pressure conditions (>2 GPa) were maintained. The Raman shifts for the H(2) and O(2) vibrons behaved differently from pure H(2) and O(2) as pressure was increased on the compound up to 70 GPa, indicating that it remains a distinct, molecular compound. Based on spectra taken from different locations in a single sample, it appears that multiple forms of the H(2)-O(2) compound exist. The structure and composition of the starting material plays an important role in compound formation, as we found that hydrogen-filled ice clathrate C(2) (H(2))H(2)O did not undergo the same dissociation as observed in ice VII upon x-ray irradiation until pressure was increased to above 10 GPa.  相似文献

In situ high-pressure/low-temperature synchrotron x-ray diffraction and optical Raman spectroscopy were used to examine the structural properties, equation of state, and vibrational dynamics of ice VIII. The x-ray measurements show that the pressure-volume relations remain smooth up to 23 GPa at 80 K. Although there is no evidence for structural changes to at least 14 GPa, the unit-cell axial ratio ca undergoes changes at 10-14 GPa. Raman measurements carried out at 80 K show that the nu(Tz)A(1g)+nuT(x,y)E(g) lattice modes for the Raman spectra of ice VIII in the lower-frequency regions (50-800 cm(-1)) disappear at around 10 GPa, and then a new peak of approximately 150 cm(-1) appears at 14 GPa. The combined data provide evidence for a transition beginning near 10 GPa. The results are consistent with recent synchrotron far-IR measurements and theoretical calculations. The decompressed phase recovered at ambient pressure transforms to low-density amorphous ice when heated to approximately 125 K.  相似文献

X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopic measurements confirm that molecular hydrogen can be contained within the small water cavities of a binary sH clathrate hydrate using large guest molecules that stabilize the large cavity. The potential increase in hydrogen storage could be more than 40% when compared with binary sII hydrates. This work demonstrates the stabilization of hydrogen in a hydrate structure previously unknown for encapsulating molecular hydrogen, indicating the potential for other inclusion compound materials with even greater hydrogen storage capabilities.  相似文献

Single-crystal and polycrystalline urea samples were compressed to 12 GPa in a diamond-anvil cell. Raman-scattering measurements indicate a sequence of four structural phases occurring over this pressure range at room temperature. The transitions to the high-pressure phases take place at pressures near 0.5 GPa (phase I --> II), 5.0 GPa (II --> III), and 8.0 GPa (III --> IV). Lattice parameters in phase I (tetragonal, with 2 molecules per unit cell, space group P42(1)m (D3(2d))) and phase II (orthorhombic, 4 molecules per unit cell, space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) (D2(4))) were determined using angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction experiments. For phases III and IV, the combined Raman and diffraction data indicate that the unit cells are likely orthorhombic with four molecules per unit cell. Spatially resolved Raman measurements on single-crystal samples in phases III and IV reveal the coexistence of two domains with distinct spectral features. Physical origins of the spatial domains in phases III and IV are examined and discussed.  相似文献

The structural and chemical properties of the bi-molecular, hydrogen-bonded, nitrogen-rich energetic material triaminoguanidinium 1-methyl-5-nitriminotetrazolate C(3)H(12)N(12)O(2) (TAG-MNT) have been investigated at room pressure and under high pressure isothermal compression using powder x-ray diffraction and Raman and infrared spectroscopy. A stiffening of the equation of state and concomitant structural relaxation between 6 and 14 GPa are found to correlate with Raman mode disappearances, frequency discontinuities, and changes in the pressure dependence of modes. These observations manifest the occurrence of a reversible martensitic structural transformation to a new crystalline phase. The onset and vanishing of Fermi resonance in the nitrimine group correlate with the stiffening of the equation of state and phase transition, suggesting a possible connection between these phenomena. Beyond 15 GPa, pressure induces irreversible chemical reactions, culminating in the formation of a polymeric phase by 60 GPa.  相似文献

Three new coordination polymers, [CoCl2(4-pmna)2]n (1), {[Co(NCS)2(4-pmna)2].2Me2CO}n (2 superset 2Me2CO), and {[Co(4-pmna)2(H2O)2](NO3)2.2CH3OH}n (3 superset 2H2O.2MeOH) (4-pmna = N-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)nicotinamide), have been synthesized and characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The cobalt(II) atoms are bridged by 4-pmna ligands in all three compounds to form double-stranded one-dimensional "repeated rhomboid-type" chains with rectangular-shaped cavities. In 1, each chain slips and obstructs the neighboring cavities so that there are no guest-incorporated pores. Both 2 superset 2Me2CO and 3 superset 2H2O.2MeOH do not have such a staggered arrangement and have pores that can be filled with a guest molecule. Compound 3 superset 2H2O.2MeOH traps guest molecules with multiple hydrogen bonds and shows a reversible structural rearrangement during adsorption and desorption. The new crystalline compound, 3, is stabilized by forming hydrogen bonds with the amide moieties of the 4-pmna ligands and was characterized using infrared spectroscopy. The clathration enthalpy of the reaction 3 + 2H2O(l) + 2MeOH(l) <==> 3 superset 2H2O.2MeOH (approximately 35 kJ/mol) was estimated from differential scanning calorimetry data by considering the vaporization enthalpies of H2O and MeOH. The desorption process of 3 superset 2H2O.2MeOH --> 3 follows a single zero-order reaction mechanism under isothermal conditions. The activation energy of ca. 100 kJ/mol was obtained by plotting the logarithm of the reaction time for the same reacted fraction versus the reciprocal of the temperature. Moreover, the distribution of the one-dimensional channels in 3 superset 2H2O.2MeOH was estimated using the observation that the reaction rate is directly proportional to the total sectional area.  相似文献

FT IR and FT Raman spectra of Ag3(PO2NH), (Compound 1), Na3(PO2NH)3 x H2O (Compound II), Na3(PO2NH)3 x 4H2O (Compound III), [C(NH2)3]3(PO2NH)3 x H2O (Compound IV) and (NH4)4(PO2NH)4 x 4H2O (Compound V) are recorded and analyzed on the basis of the anions, cations and water molecules present in each of them. The PO2NH- anion ring in compound I is distorted due to the influence of Ag+ cation. Wide variation in the hydrogen bond lengths in compound III is indicated by the splitting of the v2 and v3 modes of vibration of water molecules. The NH4 ion in compound V occupies lower site symmetry and exhibits hindered rotation in the lattice. The correlations between the symmetric and asymmetric stretching vibrations of P-N-P bridge and the P-N-P bond angle have also been discussed.  相似文献

The face-centered cubic (fcc) type magnesium-zirconium hydride (Mg0.82Zr0.18Hx) was synthesized by means of the ultrahigh pressure (UHP) technique, which could generate 8 GPa of hydrogen pressure. The differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) measurements indicated that the fcc phase exhibited reversible hydrogen releasing and restoring properties under 0.5 MPa of hydrogen pressure. On the pressure-composition isotherms, the released and restored hydrogen capacities were estimated to be 3 approximately 3.5 wt %. The Rietveld analysis for synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD) data showed that the fcc phase had around 70 wt % mass fraction and was preserved without decomposition during hydrogen releasing and restoring cycles.  相似文献

The crystal structure of a new non-centrosymmetric microporous fluorinated iron phosphate, (H3O)2[Fe4(H2O)2F4(PO4)2(HPO4)2](H2O), was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and the result reveals that it belongs to the orthorhombic system with four molecules in the unit cell(space group P212121). Thus, the complex was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, spectroscopic techniques(Fourier transform infrared and Fourier transform Raman) and 19F MAS NMR. The elemental analysis of the sample was also carried out. The chiral inorganic sheets, which stacked along[100] showed the presence of FeF2O4 as well as FeF2O3H2O octahedra, PO4 besides HPO4 tetrahedra, hydronium ions(H3O+) and isolated water molecules. Hirshfeld surface analysis, especially dnom surface and fingerprint plots, were used for decoding the intermolecular interactions in the crystal network and the contribution of component units for the construction of the 3D architecture. From the Hirshfeld surfaces and 2D fingerprint analysis, it was found that the subtle interactions, such as H…H associating the third intense interaction of all intercontacts, provide extra stabilization in addition to the presence of the strong hydrogen bonds mentioned above.  相似文献

We use the density functional theory and x-ray and neutron diffraction to investigate the crystal structures and reaction mechanisms of intermediate phases likely to be involved in decomposition of the potential hydrogen storage material LiAlH(4). First, we explore the decomposition mechanism of monoclinic LiAlH(4) into monoclinic Li(3)AlH(6) plus face-centered cubic (fcc) Al and hydrogen. We find that this reaction proceeds through a five-step mechanism with an overall activation barrier of 36.9 kcal/mol. The simulated x ray and neutron diffraction patterns from LiAlH(4) and Li(3)AlH(6) agree well with experimental data. On the other hand, the alternative decomposition of LiAlH(4) into LiAlH(2) plus H(2) is predicted to be unstable with respect to that through Li(3)AlH(6). Next, we investigate thermal decomposition of Li(3)AlH(6) into fcc LiH plus Al and hydrogen, occurring through a four-step mechanism with an activation barrier of 17.4 kcal/mol for the rate-limiting step. In the first and second steps, two Li atoms accept two H atoms from AlH(6) to form the stable Li-H-Li-H complex. Then, two sequential H(2) desorption steps are followed, which eventually result in fcc LiH plus fcc Al and hydrogen: Li(3)AlH(6)(monoclinic)-->3 LiH(fcc)+Al(fcc)+3/2 H(2) is endothermic by 15.8 kcal/mol. The dissociation energy of 15.8 kcal/mol per formula unit compares to experimental enthalpies in the range of 9.8-23.9 kcal/mol. Finally, we explore thermal decomposition of LiH, LiH(s)+Al(s)-->LiAl(s)+12H(2)(g) is endothermic by 4.6 kcal/mol. The B32 phase, which we predict as the lowest energy structure for LiAl, shows covalent bond characters in the Al-Al direction. Additionally, we determine that transformation of LiH plus Al into LiAlH is unstable with respect to transformation of LiH through LiAl.  相似文献

Infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) of the highly symmetric molecules C2H4 and C2H6 adsorbed as mono- and multilayers onto copper films is studied in relation to the type of metal-film roughness. Spectra of C2H4 show Raman lines on cold-deposited Cu films but not on Cu deposited at room temperature. For C2H6, the IR spectra from both types of metal films are similar; the surface infrared selection rule holds and no Raman bands are observed. The Raman lines that appear in the IR spectra already at low exposures are attributed to species adsorbed at special defect sites, identical to the so-called active sites in surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The IR excitation mechanism by transient electron transfer to the adsorbate pi* state can deliver a discrete vibrational band of a Raman-active vibration only under certain circumstances, for example, for adsorbates at the "SERS-active sites". C2H6 at these sites cannot deliver Raman bands in IRRAS, because it has no pi* state. We also discuss IRRAS measurements on Cu(111) and Cu(110) single crystals, where Raman bands of C2H4 have been observed.  相似文献

The tetragonal compound Bi2CuO4 was investigated at high pressures by using in situ Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. A pressure-induced structural transition started at 20 GPa and completed at ∼37 GPa was found. The high pressure phase is in orthorhombic symmetry. Raman and XRD measurements revealed that the above phase transition is reversible.  相似文献

In situ Raman spectroscopic measurements of water in the region of OH vibration were conducted up to 0.4 GPa at 23 and 52 degrees C. The frequencies of the decomposed OH stretching bands initially decreased with increasing pressure, reached a minimum at 0.15 GPa and increased up to 0.3 GPa and then decreased, which corresponds to the variations of the strength of hydrogen bonding. This variation was observed at 23 degrees C, but not at 52 degrees C, which suggests a change in pressure dependence on the hydrogen bond interaction between these two temperatures. Based on the equilibration model between hydrogen-bonded and nonhydrogen-bonded molecules, the present experimental results indicate that the pressure variation of the viscosity depends on the ratio of hydrogen-bonded molecules, rather than the strength of hydrogen bonding between molecules.  相似文献

Raman scattering and x-ray diffraction studies of CaSnO(3) perovskite were performed under high-pressure conditions. This high-pressure study was motivated by a recent theoretical study predicting a phase transition in CaSnO(3) from GdFeO(3)-type perovskite to CaIrO(3)-type structure occurred at 12 GPa. Despite no obvious structure change up to a pressure of 26 GPa based on the x-ray diffraction data, high pressure Raman measurements revealed that some Raman modes disappeared upon compression; either merging into neighboring bands or vanishing. The signals for these Raman peaks were recovered during decompression. The measured pressure derivative of Raman shift (?ν∕?P) of CaSnO(3) ranged from ~1.29 to ~4.35, up to 20 GPa. Due to the lack of lattice dynamic study for CaSnO(3) perovskite, the mode symmetry for CaSnO(3) was tentatively assigned based on the empirical relation among Ca-bearing perovskites. The pressure derivative of the Raman shifts was found to be related to their mode vibrations: modes related to Ca and O shifts had a strong pressure dependence compared with those associated with oxygen octahedral rotation.  相似文献

Raman and infrared spectra of two polymorphous minerals with the chemical formula Fe3+(SO4)(OH)·2H2O, monoclinic butlerite and orthorhombic parabutlerite, are studied and the spectra assigned. Observed bands are attributed to the (SO4)2- stretching and bending vibrations, hydrogen bonded water molecules, stretching and bending vibrations of hydroxyl ions, water librational modes, Fe-O and Fe-OH stretching vibrations, Fe-OH bending vibrations and lattice vibrations. The O-H?O hydrogen bond lengths in the structures of both minerals are calculated from the wavenumbers of the stretching vibrations. One symmetrically distinct (SO4)2- unit in the structure of butlerite and two symmetrically distinct (SO4)2- units in the structure of parabutlerite are inferred from the Raman and infrared spectra. This conclusion agrees with the published crystal structures of both mineral phases.  相似文献

By employing first-principles metadynamics simulations, we explore the 300 K structures of solid hydrogen over the pressure range 150-300 GPa. At 200 GPa, we find the ambient-pressure disordered hexagonal close-packed (hcp) phase transited into an insulating partially ordered hcp phase (po-hcp), a mixture of ordered graphene-like H(2) layers and the other layers of weakly coupled, disordered H(2) molecules. Within this phase, hydrogen remains in paired states with creation of shorter intra-molecular bonds, which are responsible for the very high experimental Raman peak above 4000 cm(-1). At 275 GPa, our simulations predicted a transformation from po-hcp into the ordered molecular metallic Cmca phase (4 molecules∕cell) that was previously proposed to be stable only above 400 GPa. Gibbs free energy calculations at 300 K confirmed the energetic stabilities of the po-hcp and metallic Cmca phases over all known structures at 220-242 GPa and >242 GPa, respectively. Our simulations highlighted the major role played by temperature in tuning the phase stabilities and provided theoretical support for claimed metallization of solid hydrogen below 300 GPa at 300 K.  相似文献

The electronic properties of cation radical salts derived from organometallic mixed-ligand complexes [(ppy)Au(S-S)](ppy- = C-dehydro-2-phenylpyridine(-); S-S(2-) = dithiolene ligand) with Au(III)-C sigma-bond were investigated. A 2:1 salt complex [(ppy)Au(C8H4S8)]2[PF6] (C8H4S8(2-) = 2-((4,5-ethylenedithio)-1,3-dithiole-2-ylidene)-1,3-dithiole-4,5-dithiolate(2-)) exhibited semiconductive behavior under ambient pressure (rho rt = 2.6 Omega cm, Ea = 0.03 eV). Magnetic measurements show that it is a Mott insulator close to the metal-insulator boundary. Raman and infrared spectra have revealed that the complex has a quasi-one-dimensional dimeric structure consisting of uniformly charged donor molecules. The complex exhibits metallic behavior at pressures above 0.8 GPa. In contrast, a similar compound [(ppy)Au(C8H4S6O2)]2[BF4] (C8H4S6O2(2-) = 2-((4,5-ethylenedioxy)-1,3-dithiole-2-ylidene)-1,3-dithiole-4,5-dithiolate(2-)) is a band insulator.  相似文献

Water adsorption on Pt( 111) and Ru(001) treated with oxygen, hydrogen chloride and sodium atom at 20 K has been studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy and surface X-ray diffraction. Water molecules chemisorb predominantly on the sites of the electronegative additives, forming hydrogen bonds. Three types of hydration water molecules coordinate to an adsorbed Na atom through an oxygen lone pair. In contrast, water molecules adsorb on electrode surfaces in a simple way in solution. In 1 mM CuSO4 + 0.5 M H2SO4 solution on an Au(111) electrode surface, water molecules coadsorb not only with sulfuric acid anions through hydrogen bonding but also with copper, over wide potential ranges. In the first stage of underpotential deposition (UPD), each anion is accommodated by six copper hexagon (honeycomb) atoms on which water molecules dominate. At any UPD stage water molecules interact with both the copper atom and sulfuric acid anions on the Au(111) surface. Water molecules also coadsorb with CO molecules on the surface of 2 x 2-2CO-Ru(001). All of the hydration water molecules chemisorb weakly on the surfaces. There appears to be a correlation between the orientation of hydrogen bonding water molecules and the electrode potential.  相似文献

Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements of ammonia (NH(3)) in laser-heated diamond anvil cells, at pressures up to 60 GPa and temperatures up to 2500 K, reveal that the melting line exhibits a maximum near 37 GPa and intermolecular proton fluctuations substantially increase in the fluid with pressure. We find that NH(3) is chemically unstable at high pressures, partially dissociating into N(2) and H(2). Ab initio calculations performed in this work show that this process is thermodynamically driven. The chemical reactivity dramatically increases at high temperature (in the fluid phase at T > 1700 K) almost independent of pressure. Quenched from these high temperature conditions, NH(3) exhibits structural differences from known solid phases. We argue that chemical reactivity of NH(3) competes with the theoretically predicted dynamic dissociation and ionization.  相似文献

The single-crystal X-ray structure of Ru(3)(CO)(12) is reported at 8 pressures ranging from 1 atm (0.0 GPa) to 8.14(5) GPa. Although intramolecular bonding parameters remain relatively constant, intramolecular and intermolecular nonbonding contact distances decrease by an average of 4% and 15%, respectively. At 8.14 GPa, O...O, C...O, and C...C intermolecular distances as short as 2.54(4), 2.64(6), and 3.07(4) A, respectively, are observed, and the unit cell compresses to 75% of the ambient pressure volume. Raman and infrared spectroscopic measurements show that carbonyl stretching frequencies shift to higher wavenumber values by as much as 80 cm(-)(1), even though Ru-C and C-O distances stay roughly constant throughout the entire pressure range studied. Compression of the sample to above 18 GPa with laser radiation results in an irreversible transformation due to either decomposition or a total collapse of D(3)(h) molecular geometry accompanied by color darkening.  相似文献
