A systematic study on the structure and stability of nitrate anion hydrated clusters, NO3(-) x n H2O (n = 1-8) are carried out by applying first principle electronic structure methods. Several possible initial structures are considered for each size cluster to locate equilibrium geometry by applying a correlated hybrid density functional with 6-311++G(d,p) basis function. Three different types of arrangements, namely, symmetrical double hydrogen bonding, single hydrogen bonding and inter-water hydrogen bonding are obtained in these hydrated clusters. A structure having inter-water hydrogen bonding is more stable compared to other arrangements. Surface structures are predicted to be more stable over interior structures. Up to five solvent H2O molecules can stay around solute NO3(-) anion in structures having an inter-water hydrogen-bonded cyclic network. A linear correlation is obtained for weighted average solvent stabilization energy with the size (n) of the hydrated cluster. Distinctly different shifts of IR bands are observed in these hydrated clusters for different kinds of bonding environments of O-H and N=O stretching modes compared to isolated H2O and NO3(-) anion. Weighted average IR spectra are calculated on the basis of statistical population of individual configurations of each size cluster at 150 K.  相似文献

Various structural possibilities for Al(n)B(m) (n=1-7, m=1-2) neutral isomers were investigated using B3LYP6-311G(d) and CCSD(T)6-311G(d) methods. Our calculations predicted the existence of a number of previously unknown isomers. The B atom favors to locate over/inside of all clusters in this series. All structures of the Al(n)B (n=2-7) may be derived from capping/putting a B atom over/inside the Al(n) cluster. All Al(n)B(2) (n=1-5) may be understood as two substitutions of Al atoms by B atoms in the Al(n+2) molecule. The strong B-B bond is a dominant factor in the building-up principle of mixed Al(n)B(2) neutral clusters. The second difference in energy showed that the Al(n)B(m) clusters with even n+m are more stable than those with odd n+m. Our results and analyses revealed that the mixed Al-B clusters exhibit aromatic behaviors.  相似文献

We have calculated the structural and energetic properties of neutral and ionic (singly charged anionic and cationic) semiconductor binary silicon-germanium clusters Si(m)Ge(n) for s = m + n ≤ 12 using the density functional theory (DFT-B3LYP) and coupled cluster [CCSD(T)] methods with Pople's 6-311++G(3df, 3pd) basis set. Neutral and anionic clusters share similar ground state structures for s = 3-7, independent of the stoichiometry and atom locations, but start to deviate at s = 8. The relative energetic stability of the calculated ground state structures among possible isomers has been analyzed through a bond strength propensity model where the pair interactions of Si-Si, Si-Ge, and Ge-Ge are competing. Electron affinities, ionization potentials, energy gaps between the highest and lowest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMO-LUMO gaps), and cluster mixing energies were calculated and analyzed. Overall, for a fixed s, the vertical ionization potential increases as the number of silicon atoms m increases, while the vertical electron affinity shows a dip at m = 2. As s increases, the ionization potentials increase from s = 2 to s = 3 and then decrease slowly to s = 8. The mixing energies for neutral and ionic clusters are all negative, indicating that the binary clusters are more stable than pure elemental clusters. Except for s = 4 and 8, cationic clusters are more stable than anionic ones and, thus, are more likely to be observed in experiments.  相似文献

The geometries, electronic states and energies of Alm Pn ( m + n = 2 ~ 6)neutral and anionic clusters have been investigated using the density functional theory(DFT)method of Becke’s three-parameter hybrid exchange functional with the nonlocal correlation of B3LYP. Structural optimization and frequency analyses are performed with the basis of 6-311G( d). The calculations predict the existence of a number of previously unknown isomers(i. e. ,Al3P_ and AlmPn ( m + n.5)). The calculations have also predicted that small AlP and(AlP)2 clusters adopt two-and three-dimensional structures characteristic of Si2 and Si4 clusters, while the structures of the larger AlP clusters are different completely from those of Sin clusters with the same electrons. The results show that the structures with the singlet have higher symmetries, while those with the doublet have lower symmetries. The vertical detachment energy of AlmPn ( m + n = 2 ~ 6)are also discused and the adiabatic electron affinities of AlmPn(m + n = 2 ~ 6)and also discussed at the same level. The results agree satisfactorily with the anion photoelectron spectroscopy of aluminum phosphide clusters reported recently by Gomez et al.  相似文献

The geometric structures of neutral and cationic Si(n)Li(m)(0/+) clusters with n = 2-11 and m = 1, 2 are investigated using combined experimental and computational methods. The adiabatic ionization energy and vertical ionization energy (VIE) of Si(n)Li(m) clusters are determined using quantum chemical methods (B3LYP/6-311+G(d), G3B3, and CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVxZ with x = D,T), whereas experimental values are derived from threshold photoionization experiments in the 4.68-6.24 eV range. Among the investigated cluster sizes, only Si(6)Li(2), Si(7)Li, Si(10)Li, and Si(11)Li have ionization thresholds below 6.24 eV and could be measured accurately. The ionization threshold and VIE obtained from the experimental photoionization efficiency curves agree well with the computed values. The growth mechanism of the lithium doped silicon clusters follows some simple rules: (1) neutral singly doped Si(n)Li clusters favor the Li atom addition on an edge or a face of the structure of the corresponding Si(n)(-) anion, while the cationic Si(n)Li(+) binds with one Si atom of the bare Si(n) cluster or adds on one of its edges, and (2) for doubly doped Si(n)Li(2)(0/+) clusters, the neutrals have the shape of the Si(n+1) counterparts with an additional Li atom added on an edge or a face of it, while the cations have both Li atoms added on edges or faces of the Si(n)(-) clusters.  相似文献

The stable structures and vibrational spectra of protonated acetone molecule clusters with different sizes (CH3COCH3)nH +(n=1-7)are calculated at the 6-31G(d)level by means of density functional theory (B3LYP)quantum chemical calculations. The corresponding energies are analyzed at the level B3LYP/6-311+G(3df,2p)in order to obtain more accurate results. The proton affinity of neutral cyclic acetone molecule clusters increases with the increasing of cluster size. The calculated results show that the protonated acetone clusters have certain growth regularity with forming a solvation shell at the beginning and then new added acetone molecule attacking different active sites including the middle carbon atoms and the different methyl in solvation shell. The IR spectra of the protonated clusters are more complicate than that of neutral ones. The strongest peaks result from the movement of the proton between the two oxygen atoms in solvant shell apart from the case of n=1. Carbonyl stretching vibraional peaks split into the more and more and in general the corresponding intensities are weakened due to the protonation with the increasing of cluster size.  相似文献

We report vertical detachment energy (VDE) and IR spectra of Br2.-.(H2O)n clusters (n=1-8) based on first principles electronic structure calculations. Cluster structures and IR spectra are calculated at Becke's half-and-half hybrid exchange-correlation functional (BHHLYP) with a triple split valence basis function, 6-311++G(d,p). VDE for the hydrated clusters is calculated based on second order Moller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) theory with the same set of basis function. On full geometry optimization, it is observed that conformers having interwater hydrogen bonding among solvent water molecules are more stable than the structures having double or single hydrogen bonded structures between the anionic solute, Br2.-, and solvent water molecules. Moreover, a conformer having cyclic interwater hydrogen bonded network is predicted to be more stable for each size hydrated cluster. It is also noticed that up to four solvent H2O units can reside around the solute in a cyclic interwater hydrogen bonded network. The excess electron in these hydrated clusters is localized over the solute atoms. Weighted average VDE is calculated for each size (n) cluster based on statistical population of the conformers at 150 K. A linear relationship is obtained for VDE versus (n+3)(-1/3) and bulk VDE of Br2.- aqueous solution is calculated as 10.01 eV at MP2 level of theory. BHHLYP density functional is seen to make a systematic overestimation in VDE values by approximately 0.5 eV compared to MP2 data in all the hydrated clusters. It is observed that hydration increases VDE of bromine dimer anion system by approximately 6.4 eV. Calculated IR spectra show that the formation of Br2.--water clusters induces large shifts from the normal O-H stretching bands of isolated water keeping bending modes rather insensitive. Hydrated clusters, Br2.-.(H2O)n, show characteristic sharp features of O-H stretching bands of water in the small size clusters.  相似文献

Structure and properties of hydrated clusters of halogen gas, X2.nH2O (X = Cl, Br, and I; n = 1-8) are presented following first principle based electronic structure theory, namely, BHHLYP density functional and second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) methods. Several geometrical arrangements are considered as initial guess structures to look for the minimum energy equilibrium structures by applying the 6-311++G(d,p) set of the basis function. Results on X2-water clusters (X = Br and I) suggest that X2 exists as a charge separated ion pair, X+delta-X-delta in the hydrated clusters, X2.nH2O (n > or = 2). Though the optimized structures of Cl2.nH2O clusters look like X2.nH2O (X = Br and I) clusters, Cl2 does not exist as a charge separated ion pair in the presence of solvent water molecules. The calculated interaction energy between X2 and solvent water cluster increases from Cl2.nH2O to I2.nH2O clusters, suggesting solubility of gas-phase I2 in water to be a maximum among these three systems. Static and dynamic polarizabilities of hydrated X2 clusters, X2.nH2O, are calculated and observed to vary linearly with the size (n) of these water clusters with correlation coefficient >0.999. This suggests that the polarizability of the larger size hydrated clusters can be reliably predicted. Static and dynamic polarizabilities of these hydrated clusters grow exponentially with the frequency of an external applied field for a particular size (n) of hydrated cluster.  相似文献

High-level ab initio calculations (B3LYP/6-31+G and QCISD(T)/6-311+G**) were carried out to resolve the disagreement between recent experimental and computational estimates of the relative strength of the intramolecular hydrogen bond in Z-hydrogen maleate anion with respect to the normal hydrogen bond in maleic acid. The computational estimates for the strength of the intramolecular hydrogen bond in the gas-phase maleate anion are in a range of 14-28 kcal/mol depending on the choice of the reference structure. Computational data suggest that the electrostatic influence of a counterion such as a tetraalkylammonium cation can considerably weaken the hydrogen bonding interaction (by 1.5-2 times) in the complexed hydrogen maleate anion relative to that in the naked anion. The estimated internal H-bonding energies for a series of Z-maleate/R4N+ salts (R = CH3, C2H5, CH3CH2CH2CH2) range from 8 to 13 kcal/mol. The calculated energy differences between the E- and Z-hydrogen maleates complexed to Me4N+, Et4N+, and Bu4N+ cation are 4.9 (B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p)) and 5.7 and 5.8 kcal/mol (B3LYP/6-31G(d)). It is also demonstrated that the sodium cation exerts a similar electrostatic influence on the hydrogen bond strength in bifluoride anion (FHF-). The present study shows that while low-barrier short hydrogen bonds can exist in the gas phase (the barrier for the hydrogen transfer in maleate anion is only 0.2 kcal/mol at the QCISD(T)/6-311+G//QCISD/6-31+G level), whether they can also be strong in condensed media or not depends on how their interactions with their immediate environment affect their strength.  相似文献

Structure, stability, and vibrational IR and Raman spectra of I(2)(*-) x nCO(2) clusters (n = 1-10) are reported based on first-principle electronic structure calculations. Several close-lying minimum energy structures are predicted for these solvated clusters following the quasi Newton-Raphson procedure of geometry optimization. Search strategy based on Monte-Carlo simulated annealing is also applied to find out the global minimum energy structures of these clusters. Successive addition of solvent CO(2) molecules to the negatively charged diatomic solute, I(2)(*-), is fairly symmetrical. Energy parameters of these solvated clusters are calculated following second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) as well as coupled cluster theory with 6-311+G(d) set of basis function (I atom is treated with 6-311G(d) set of basis function). The excess electron in these solvated clusters is observed to be localized mainly over the two I atoms. Average interaction energy between the anionic solute, I(2)(*-), and a solvent CO(2) molecule is approximately 129 meV in I(2)(*-) x nCO(2) clusters, and the average interaction energy between two solvent CO(2) molecules is approximately 85 meV in the case of neutral (CO(2))(n) clusters at MP2 level of theory. IR spectra show similar features in all these solvated clusters, depicting a strong band at approximately 2330 cm(-1) for C-O stretching and a weak band at approximately 650 cm(-1) for CO(2) bending modes. Degeneracy of the bending mode of a free solvent CO(2) unit gets lifted when it interacts with the charged solute I(2)(*-) to form a molecular cluster because of the change in structure of solvent CO(2) units. The vibrational band at the bending region of CO(2) in the Raman spectra of these anionic clusters shows a characteristic feature for the formation of I(2)(*-) x nCO(2) clusters showing a Raman band at approximately 650 cm(-1).  相似文献

The ground-state structures of neutral, cationic, and anionic phosphorus clusters P(n), P(n)(+), and P(n)(-) (n = 3-15) have been calculated using the B3LYP/6-311+G* density functional method. The P(n)(+) and P(n)(-) (n = 3-15) clusters with odd n were found to be more stable than those with even n, and we provide a satisfactory explanation for such trends based on concepts of energy difference, ionization potential, electron affinity, and incremental binding energy. The result of odd/even alternations is in good accord with the relative intensities of cationic and anionic phosphorus clusters observed in mass spectrometric studies.  相似文献

Density functional theory was used at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory to study the hydrates of 2NH3:H2SO4:nH2O for n = 0~4. Neutrals of the most stable clusters, when n = 0 and 1, spontaneously formed and were determined to be hydrogen-bonded molecular complexes of monomeric species. Double ions (clusters containing a NH4+ cation and a HSO4- anion) or even ternary ions (clusters with two NH4+ cations and one SO42- anion) spontaneously formed in the most stable clusters of 2NH3:H2SO4:nH2O (n = 2, 3, 4). The energetics of binding and incremental association was also calculated. Double ions are not energetically favorable until 2NH3:H2SO4:2H2O because of the about equal free energies for forming the neutral (the most stable) and double ion (the second stable) isomers. The free energy of incremental association from free H2O and 2NH3:H2SO4:nH2O has a maximum at n = 2 at room temperature with ΔG ≈ -2 kcal/mol. The comparison of incremental association energies between 2NH3:H2SO4:nH2O, NH3:H2SO4:nH2O and H2SO4:nH2O clusters revealed that NH3 plays an important role in the atmospheric particle nucleation.  相似文献

We present the results of a detailed study on structure and electronic properties of hydrated cluster Cl2*-.nH2O (n = 1-7) based on a nonlocal density functional, namely, Becke's [J. Chem. Phys. 98, 1372 (1993)] half and half hybrid exchange-correlation functional with a split valence 6-311++G(d,p) basis function. Geometry optimizations for all the clusters are carried out with various possible initial guess structures without any symmetry restriction. Several minimum energy structures (conformers) are predicted with a small difference in total energy. There is a competition between the binding of solvent H2O units with Cl2*- dimer radical anion directly through ion-molecule interaction and forming interwater hydrogen-bonding network in Cl2*-.nH2O (n > or = 2) hydrated cluster. Structure having interwater H-bonded network is more stable over the structure where H2O units are connected to the solute dimer radical anion Cl2*- rather independently either by single or double H bonding in a particular size (n) of hydrated cluster Cl2*-.nH2O. At the maximum four solvent H2O units reside in interwater H-bonding network present in these hydrated clusters. It is observed that up to six H2O units are independently linked to the anion having four double H bondings and two single H bondings suggesting the primary hydration number of Cl2*- to be 6. In all these clusters, the odd electron is found to be mostly localized over the two Cl atoms and these two atoms are bound by a three-electron hemibond. Calculated interaction (between solute and different water clusters) and vertical detachment energy profiles show saturation at n = 6 in the hydrated cluster Cl2*-.nH2O (n = 1-7). However, calculated solvation energy increases with the increase in number of solvent H2O molecules in the cluster. Interaction energy varies linearly with vertical detachment energy for the hydrated clusters Cl2*-.nH2O (n < or = 6). Calculation of the vibration frequencies show that the formation of Cl2*(-)-water clusters induces significant shifts from the normal stretching modes of isolated water. A clear difference in the pattern of IR spectra is observed in the O-H stretching region of water from hexa- to heptahydrated cluster.  相似文献

High-level ab initio molecular-orbital methods have been employed to determine the relative stability among four neutral and anionic B20 isomers, particularly the double-ring tubular isomer versus three low-lying planar isomers. Calculations with the fourth-order Moller-Plessset perturbation theory [MP4(SDQ)] and Dunning's correlation consistent polarized valence triple zeta basis set as well as with the coupled-cluster method including single, double, and noniteratively perturbative triple excitations and the 6-311G(d) basis set show that the double-ring tubular isomer is appreciably lower in energy than the three planar isomers and is thus likely the global minimum of neutral B20 cluster. In contrast, calculations with the MP4(SDQ) level of theory and 6-311+G(d) basis set show that the double-ring anion isomer is appreciably higher in energy than two of the three planar isomers. In addition, the temperature effects on the relative stability of both 10B20- and 11B20- anion isomers are examined using the density-functional theory. It is found that the three planar anion isomers become increasingly more stable than the double-ring isomer with increasing the temperature. These results are consistent with the previous conclusion based on a joint experimental/simulated anion photoelectron spectroscopy study [B. Kiran et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 102, 961 (2005)], that is, the double-ring anion isomer is notably absent from the experimental spectra. The high stability of the double-ring neutral isomer of B20 can be attributed in part to the strong aromaticity as characterized by its large negative nucleus-independent chemical shift. The high-level ab initio calculations suggest that the planar-to-tubular structural transition starts at B20 for neutral clusters but should occur beyond the size of B20- for the anion clusters.  相似文献

Ab initio and density functional calculations are used to analyze the interaction between a molecule of fulminic acid with 1, 2, 3, and 4 molecules of water along with a 2:2 complex at B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) and MP2/6-311++G(d,p) computational levels. Cooperative effect (CE) in terms of stabilization energy of clusters are calculated and discussed as well. CE is increased with increasing cluster size of studied clusters. Red shifts of H–C stretching frequency for complexes involving HCNO as H-donor are predicted.  相似文献

A computationally cheap approach combining time-independent density functional theory (TIDFT) and semiempirical methods with an appropriate extrapolation procedure is proposed to accurately estimate geometrical and electronic properties of conjugated polymers using just a small set of oligomers. The highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital gap (HLG) obtained at a TIDFT level (B3PW91) for two polymers, trans-polyacetylene--the simplest conjugated polymer, and a much larger poly(2-methoxy-5-(2,9-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene (MEH-PPV) polymer converge to virtually the same asymptotic value than the excitation energy obtained with time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) calculations using the same functional. For TIDFT geometries, the HLG is found to converge to a value within the experimentally accepted range for the band gap of these polymers, when an exponential extrapolation is used; however if semiempirical geometries are used, a linear fit of the HLG versus 1/n is found to produce the best results. Geometrical parameters are observed to reach a saturation value in good agreement with experimental information, within the length of oligomers calculated here and no extrapolation was considered necessary. Finally, the performance of three different semiempirical methods (AM1, PM3, and MNDO) and for the TIDFT calculations, the performance of 7 different full electron basis sets (6-311+G**, 6-31+ +G**, 6-311+ +G**, 6-31+G**, 6-31G**, 6-31+G*, and 6-31G) is compared and it is determined that the choice of semiempirical method or the basis set does not significantly affect the results.  相似文献

The authors report theoretical results on structure, bonding, energy, and infrared spectra of iodine dimer radical anion hydrated clusters, I(2) (-).nH(2)O (n=1-8), based on a systematic study following density functional theory. Several initial guess structures are considered for each size cluster to locate minimum energy conformers with a Gaussian 6-311++G(d,p) split valence basis function (triple split valence 6-311 basis set is applied for iodine). It is observed that three different types of hydrogen bonded structures, namely, symmetrical double hydrogen bonding, single hydrogen bonding, and interwater hydrogen bonding structures, are possible in these hydrated clusters. But conformers having interwater hydrogen bonding arrangements are more stable compared to those of double or single hydrogen bonded structures. It is also noticed that up to four solvent H(2)O units can reside around the solute in interwater hydrogen bonding network. At the maximum six H(2)O units are independently linked to the dimer anion having four double hydrogen bonding and two single hydrogen bonding, suggesting the hydration number of I(2) (-) to be 6. However, conformers having H(2)O units independently linked to the iodine dimer anion are not the most stable structures. In all these hydrated clusters, the odd electron is found to be localized over two I atoms and the two atoms are bound by a three-electron hemi bond. The solvation, interaction, and vertical detachment energies are calculated for all I(2) (-).nH(2)O clusters. Energy of interaction and vertical detachment energy profiles show stepwise saturation, indicating geometrical shell closing in the hydrated clusters, but solvation energy profile fails to show such behavior. A linear correlation is observed between the calculated energy of interaction and vertical detachment energy. It is observed that formation of I(2) (-)-water cluster induces significant shifts from the normal O-H stretching modes of isolated H(2)O. However, bending mode of H(2)O remains insensitive to the successive addition of solvent H(2)O units. Weighted average energy profiles and IR spectra are reported for all the hydrated clusters based on the statistical population of individual conformers at room temperature.  相似文献

The structures and electronic states of phenyl-capped terthiophene (denoted by P3T) and the ionic species of P3T have been investigated by means of density functional theory (DFT) and direct MO dynamics calculations. P3T is one of the high-performance molecular devices, which has been utilized as a semi-conductor. The calculations indicated that the neutral P3T has a non-planar structure whose the phenyl rings in both ends of thiophene chain are largely deviated from the molecular plane. The cation and anion radicals, dication and dianion were considered as its ionic states. The structure for cation radical of P3T is close to more planar than that of neutral P3T. The structures for anion radical, dication and dianion take a pure planar structure. The first excitation energy of neutral P3T is calculated to be 2.90 eV at the TD-B3LYP/6-31G(d)//B3LYP/6-311+G(d) level, while the P3T cation and anion radicals have lower excitation energies (1.22 and 1.10 eV, respectively). The direct MO dynamics calculation showed that neutral, cation and anion hold near planar structure at 300 K. On the other hand, oligothiophene (n = 5) and its ionic species are strongly deformed from the planar structure, and thiophene rings in both ends of chain rotate rapidly by thermal activation. The mechanism of the electron conductivity in P3T was discussed on the basis of theoretical results.  相似文献
