We study interfacial properties of rigid-rod-like poly(n-hexyl isocyanate) (PHIC), flexible poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc), and mixed films of PHIC and PVAc spread at the air-water interface as a function of the molar fraction of PHIC by surface pressure measurements and fluorescence microscopy. From the plots of the experimental mean area of the mixed polymer films at a constant surface pressure as a function of the molar fraction of PHIC in the mixed films, the binary mixtures of PHIC/PVAc were concluded to be compatible at the air-water interface. This means that the hydrophobic hexyl group of PHIC takes a horizontal orientation to the air-water interface rather than a perpendicular one, leading to PHIC and PVAc having the same interfacial orientation. Compatibility of the binary mixtures of PHIC/PVAc at the air-water interface is also confirmed by their fluorescence microscopic images, since PHIC proves to be inhomogeneous and PVAc is homogeneous with the aid of a fluorescence probe, respectively.  相似文献

LB films of rigid-rod-like poly(n-hexyl isocyanate) (PHIC), flexible poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc), and binary mixtures of PHIC as well as of PHIC and PVAc transferred on a mica surface from the air-water interface were observed by AFM. The grain structure of three individual PHIC samples in the AFM images changed shape from a rigid rod to a coiled rod with an increase in the molecular weight due to changes in the chain rigidity of PHIC. On the other hand, the AFM image of PVAc was similar to that of a mica surface, indicating that PVAc forms a uniform and homogeneous film. For the binary mixtures of PHIC, the grain structure in the AFM image of the highest molecular weight PHIC was expanded with a similar shape after the addition of the smallest one, whereas it lost its shape after the addition of the middle one. Their peak-to-valley values in the AMF images were similar to those of the individual PHIC samples. For the binary mixtures of PHIC with the highest mass and PVAc, the grain in the AFM image of the PHIC lost its shape after the addition of PVAc and it changed shape from a connected partial lost coil to an extended bundle rod with an increase in the PVAc component.  相似文献

Surface dilational moduli of poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO), poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and compatible PEO/PMMA blend films spread at the air-water interface were investigated as a function of surface concentration. The surface dilational modulus of an expanded PEO film increased as the surface concentration increased to 0.4mg/m(2), which corresponds to the limiting surface area of PEO. After peaking at this value, the surface dilational modulus decreased with an increase in the PEO concentration. Lissajous orbits of PEO films exhibited positive hysteresis loops for all surface concentration ranges. On the other hand, the surface dilational modulus of a condensed PMMA film steeply increased as the surface concentration increased. Lissajous orbits of PMMA films changed from positive hysteresis loops to negative loops at the surface concentration at which the surface pressure reached in the plateau region. The magnitude of the surface dilational modulus of PMMA was larger than that of PEO at a fixed surface concentration. The surface dilational moduli of the PEO/PMMA blend films increased with the total surface concentration and their magnitudes were less than those of the individual PMMA films and larger than those of the individual PEO films at fixed surface concentrations. Lissajous orbits of the PEO/PMMA blend films also changed from positive hysteresis loops to negative loops beyond the surface concentration at which the plateau surface pressure of PEO was attained.  相似文献

To assess the compatibility of blends of synthetic poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC), with a natural bacterial poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB), a simple casting procedure of blend was used. poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)/poly(propylene carbonate) blends are found to be incompatible according to DSC and DMA analysis. In order to improve the compatibility and mechanical properties of PHB/PPC blends, poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) was added as a compatibilizer. The effects of PVAc on the thermal behavior, morphology, and mechanical properties of 70PHB/30PPC blend were investigated. The results show that the melting point and the crystallization temperature of PHB in blends decrease with the increase of PVAc content in blends, the loss factor changes from two separate peaks of 70PHB/30PPC blend to one peak of 70PHB/30PPC/12PVAc blend. It is also found that adding PVAc into 70PHB/30PPC blend can decrease the size of dispersed phase from morphology analysis. The result of tensile properties shows that PVAc can increase the tensile strength and Young’s modulus of 70PHB/30PPC blend, and both the elongation at break and the tensile toughness increase significantly with PVAc added into 70PHB/30PPC.  相似文献

The morphologies of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of two fractionated poly(n-hexyl isocyanate) (PHIC) and those of their binary mixtures were observed by AFM, together with those of an unfractionated PHIC. The low molecular weight PHIC formed random packing of bundles consisting of rigid rods, while the high molecular weight PHIC formed random packing of bundles consisting of hairy rods. Bundle interpenetration was observed only for the latter in the semidilute regime. In the bilayer region, the area occupied by the PHIC bundles in the upper layer was obviously smaller for the high molecular weight PHIC than for the low molecular weight PHIC, suggesting that the bundles of high molecular weight PHIC more easily interpenetrate than those of low molecular weight PHIC. For the blended films composed of both low and high molecular weight PHICs, the characteristic morphologies of the respective PHIC samples were no longer present. Moreover, the morphologies of the blended films appeared to resemble each other at any molar fraction owing to the ideal miscibility of the low molecular weight and high molecular weight PHICs. The morphologies of the blended films were also similar to that of the unfractionated PHIC film in the dilute regime. In the semidilute regime, the blended films became rounded owing to an increase in bundles interpenetration between PHICs as compared to that in the dilute regime, whereas the morphology of unfractionated PHIC films remained unchanged as compared to that in the dilute regime.  相似文献

The surface pressure (Π) vs surface concentration (Γs) curves of the hydrogen-bonded polymer blend poly(vinylacetate)+ poly(4-hydro-xystyrene) (PVAc+P4HS) have been measured at 25 °C onto a water subphase at pH=2.0. While PVAc forms extended monolayers, and the free surface of water is found to be a good solvent for it, P4HS forms compressed monolayers, and the surface is a near Θ-type solvent for it. PVAc and P4HS form miscible non-ideal monolayers until near the collapse pressure through the whole concentration range. The composition dependence of the Π–Γs curves is rather complex. Contrary to what might be expected, the addition of PVAc to the blend does not reduce the rigidity of the monolayer until its weight fraction is larger than 0.5. The compressibility data of the P4HS-rich monolayers suggest the existence of a second maximum at high surface coverages, a result already observed in some polysiloxanes. Alkali catalytic hydrolysis of poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) grafting onto polyurethane film surface was a heterogeneous reaction. The hydrolysis was carried on the PVAc particle surface, and the concentration of the alkali in the system was tested by titration method. The kinetics of PVAc surface hydrolytic reaction was studied by simple second-order reaction model. From linear regression analysis of experimental data, we inferred that the activation energy (E a ) and pre-exponential factor (A) of PVAc surface hydrolytic reaction were 70.7 ± 0.2 kJ mol?1 and (5.7 ± 0.5) × 1012 kg mol?1 s?1, respectively. The results of transmission electron microscopy stated that the apparent hydrolytic degree was 2.1% when the surface of PVAc particle hydrolyzed absolutely.  相似文献

Fully-biodegradable bacterial poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)/chemosynthetic poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) blend films with compositional gradient from one surface to the other surface of the films were prepared by a dissolution-diffusion technique. Three kinds of PVA samples, high- and low-molecular weight atactic PVA and highly syndiotactic PVA (s-PVA), were used in order to investigate the effects of molecular weight and tactic structure on the generation of compositional gradient. The solution of PHB in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP), which is also a good solvent for PVA, was cast on the PVA film and then the solvent HFIP was evaporated. By selecting the optimum volume of solvent and the evaporation rate, the PHB/PVA blend film with compositional gradient was obtained. The formation of compositional gradient was confirmed by FT-IR microscopy and ATR-FT-IR analysis. The 50%/50% PHB/s-PVA blend film with a nearly ideal compositional gradient, that is, the composition of PHB (or PVA) in the film changing gradually from 100% at one surface to 0% at the other surface of the film was obtained by casting PHB/HFIP solution on to the s-PVA film. Positional dependence of the absorbance of C==O and OH stretching bands along the film thickness direction for the PHB/S-PVA cast films.  相似文献

A series of poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(butyl acrylate-co-methyl methacrylate) [PVA/P(BA-co-MMA)] blend films with different P(BA-co-MMA) content were prepared by the solution casting method. Surface morphologies of the PVA/P(BA-co-MMA) blend films were studied by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Thermal, mechanical, and chemical properties of PVA/P(BA-co-MMA) blend films were investigated by differential scanning calorimeter, thermogravimetric analysis, tensile tests, and surface contact angle tests. It was revealed that the introduction of P(BA-co-MMA) could affect the properties of the PVA films. The results also showed that, when P(BA-co-MMA) mole content is 3 %, the tensile strength and the surface contact angle of the polymer blend film are 20.4 MPa and 43.5°, respectively, suggesting that the polymer blend film holds both a better mechanical property and a better chemical property.  相似文献

Direct insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry (DIP-MS) analyses of polycarbonate/poly(methyl methacrylate)/poly(vinyl acetate), (PC/PMMA/PVAc), ternary blends have been performed. The PC/PMMA/PVAc ternary blends were obtained by coalescing from their common γ-cyclodextrin-inclusion compounds (CD-ICs), through the removal of the γ-CD host (coalesced blend), and by a co-precipitation method (physical blend). The coalesced ternary blend showed different thermal behaviors compared to the co-precipitated physical blend. The stability of PC chains decreased due to the reactions of CH3COOH formed by deacetylation of PVAc above 300 °C, for both coalesced and physical blends. This process was more effective for the physical blend most likely due to the enhanced diffusion of CH3COOH into the amorphous PC domains, where it can further react producing low molecular weight PC fragments bearing methyl carbonate chain ends. The decrease in thermal stability of PC chains was less significant for the coalesced ternary blend indicating that the diffusion of CH3COOH was either somewhat limited or competed with intermolecular reactions between PMMA and PC and between PMMA and PVAc, which were detected and were associated with their close proximity in the intimately mixed coalesced PC/PMMA/PVAc ternary blend.  相似文献

Using a mutual solvent technique, blend films of poly[(alaine ethyl ester)0.62(glycine ethyl ester)0.38]phosphazene/poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) (PAGP/PLGA blend) were prepared at different conditions including weight ratios, solvents, environmental humidity, film thickness, and substrates. The morphology and properties of blend films were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDX), X‐ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), and solvent selective etching. Compared with dichloromethane and tetrahydrofuran (THF), chloroform was the better solvent to form miscible PAGP/PLGA blend films at relatively anhydrous atmosphere. However, in the humid atmosphere, the hexagonal arrangement of holes appeared on the surface of PAGP/PLGA blend films due to the ordered array of water droplets. A sandwich‐liked structure was formed with the hydrophilic PAGP component at the top and bottom, while the PLGA component in the middle. In addition, the surface morphology of PAGP/PLGA blend films was also influenced by the film thickness and the property of the substrate. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A blend of poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) with 90 wt % PCL was prepared. Two films of this blend, which were grown at 35 and 45 degrees C, showed the absence and presence of banded spherulites, respectively. A detailed examination conducted with time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) found that the surface composition of the film grown at 45 degrees C was related to its structure, which was shown to contain ridges and valleys. Phase images obtained using atomic force microscopy (AFM) indicated that the ridges and valleys consisted of edge-on and flat-on lamellae, respectively. ToF-SIMS imaging revealed that PVC and PCL were located mainly on the surface of the valleys and ridges, respectively. This morphology-driven surface segregation was caused by the difference in the surface energy between the flat-on and edge-on lamellae.  相似文献

Organophilic montmorillonite was obtained by the reaction of montmorillonite (MON) and distearyldimethylammonium chloride (DSAC). The modified clay and poly(l-lactide), (PLLA), were solvent-cast blended using chloroform as cosolvent. The structure and properties of the PLLA-clay blends were investigated. Thermal measurements revealed that cold crystallization took place in the as-cast PLLA, and that the clay served as a nucleating agent. From small and wide-angle x-ray scattering measurements, it was found that silicate layers forming the clay could not be individually well dispersed in the PLLA-clay blends prepared by the solvent-cast method. In other words, the clay existed in the form of tactoids, which consist of several stacked silicate monolayers. However, these tactoids formed a remarkable geometrical structure in the blend films. That is, their surfaces lay almost parallel to the film surface, and were stacked with the insertion of PLLA crystalline lamellae in the thickness direction of the film. During the blend drawing process, fibrillation took place with the formation of plane-like voids developed on the plane parallel to the film surface. Furthermore, delamination of the silicate layers did not occur even under the application of a shearing force. Finally, Young's modulus of the blend increased with the addition of a small amount of the clay. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

In order to improve the blood compatibility of silk fibroin (SF), poly(ethylene glycol) macromer (PEGM) in different amounts was added to the SF film to incorporate C=C group into the surface of blend films which were then modified by SO2 gas plasma treatment. ATR-FITR and XPS were used to analyze the chemical change which had occurred on the film‘s surface. When the content of sulfur on the surface of blend films surpasses 1.59%, the antithrombogenicity of plasma treated films increases remarkably due to surface sulfonation. This result implies that SF with blend of PEGM after SO2 plasma treatment have potential use for making blood-contacting biomaterials.  相似文献

We report the influence of polyelectrolyte (PE) multilayer films prepared from poly(styrene sulfonate)-poly(acrylic acid) (PSS-PAA) blends, deposited in alternation with poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH), on film wettability and the adsorption behavior of the protein immunoglobulin G (IgG). Variations in the chemical composition of the PAH/(PSS-PAA) multilayer films, controlled by the PSS/PAA blend ratio in the dipping solutions, were used to systematically control film thickness, surface morphology, surface wettability, and IgG adsorption. Spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements indicate that increasing the PSS content in the blend solutions results in a systematic decrease in film thickness. Increasing the PSS content in the blend solutions also leads to a reduction in film surface roughness (as measured by atomic force microscopy), with a corresponding increase in surface hydrophobicity. Advancing contact angles (theta) range from 7 degrees for PAH/PAA films through to 53 degrees for PAH/PSS films. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements indicate that the increase in film hydrophobicity is due to an increase in PSS concentration at the film surface. In addition, the influence of added electrolyte in the PE solutions was investigated. Adsorption from PE solutions containing added salt favors PSS adsorption and results in more hydrophobic films. The amount of IgG adsorbed on the multilayer films systematically increased on films assembled from blends with increasing PSS content, suggesting strong interactions between PSS in the multilayer films and IgG. Hence, multilayer films prepared from blended PE solutions can be used to tune film thickness and composition, as well as wetting and protein adsorption characteristics.  相似文献

The surface morphologies and properties of polystyrene (PS)/poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PVP) blend films cast on the mica substrate from ethylbenzene solution were investigated upon controlling different weight ratios and solvent evaporation rates. A near-honeycomblike surface morphology of the PS/PVP blend film formed under controlling the solvent evaporation rate due to the effect of Marangoni-Benard convection. The results of static water contact angles, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, solvent selective etching, and treatment by water illustrated that the near-honeycomblike structures on the surface of PS/PVP blend films were different for different weight ratios of PS and PVP. After treatment with water for several minutes, PVP islands-like structure emerged in the holes of the film for a PS/PVP weight ratio of 4/1, and a quasihexagonal arrangement of alternate big and small PVP droplets emerged on the top layer of the film for a PS/PVP weight ratio of 7/1. The formation mechanisms of different surface structures and their response behaviors to water were discussed.  相似文献

Poly(2-methoxyethyl acrylate) (PMEA) exhibits excellent blood compatibility. To understand why such a surface functionality exists, the surface of PMEA should be characterized in detail, structurally and dynamically, under not only ambient conditions, but also in water. However, a thin film of PMEA supported on a solid substrate can be easily broken, namely it is dewetted. Our strategy to overcome this difficulty is to mix PMEA with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Differential scanning calorimetry and cloud point measurements revealed that the PMEA/PMMA blend has a phase diagram with a lower critical solution temperature. The blend surface was also characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in conjunction with microscopic observations. Although PMEA is preferentially segregated over PMMA at the blend surface due to its lower surface free energy, the extent of segregation in the as-prepared films was not sufficient to cover the surface. Annealing the blend film at an appropriate temperature, higher than the glass transition temperature and lower than the phase-separation temperature of the blend, enabled us to prepare a stable and flat surface that was perfectly covered with PMEA.  相似文献

The micro construction of poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) blend films fabricated by solution casting under microwave irradiation was investigated by selective enzymatic degradation and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results were totally different from the blends obtained by conventional methods. The blend was more homogeneous and the PCL continuous phase more compact as no spherulites and tiny zone separation were observed from the film surface and no PCL network was observed inside the film, and the degradation of a PCL plank by Pseudomonas lipase was significantly retarded. The distributed PLLA micro spheres were enlarged and amorphous. The thermal behavior of the blend by microwave heating revealed that PCL and PLLA underwent a melting process, which induced the variations of the PCL phase and PLLA spheres. The weight loss caused by degradation of the PCL/PLLA blend obtained by conventional methods (B50c) is greater than that of the blend obtained by microwave methods (B50m), which reflects the change in morphology from a loose PCL network (B50c) to a dense PCL plank (B50m).  相似文献

The morphology of poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(vinyl acetate) (PEO/PVAc) blends was examined using small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and optical microscopy. The morphological and structural parameters of the blends are dependent on both composition and crystallization conditions. Optical microscopy revealed that blend samples prepared by solution casting crystallized with volume-filling crystals up to a composition of 30/70 wt% PEO/PVAc; at higher PVAc content there was no evidence of crystallization in the temperature range studied. Pure PEO always crystallized with a spherulite-hedrite morphology. The formation of spherulites was relatively favoured at lower crystallization temperatures and by addition of PVAc to PEO. Small angle X-ray intensity profiles were analyzed using a recently developed methodology and it was found that, for a given crystallization temperature, the amorphous and interphase thicknesses increased with increasing PVAc content but that the average crystalline thickness was independent of composition. The morphological and structural properties of the PEO/PVAc blends were attributed to the presence of non-crystallizable material in both the interlamellar and interfibrillar regions.  相似文献

The effects of the presence of a molecular monolayer on the dilatational properties of the air/water interface have been investigated. Two water insoluble amphiphiles, dipalmitoyl phosphatidyl choline and quercetin 3-O-palmitate, were spread onto a pendant drop and the dynamic surface pressure was measured by means of drop shape analysis. The surface dilatational elasticity and viscosity of the spread monolayers were also determined by the oscillating drop technique. Constraints on the range of measuring conditions were investigated and we demonstrated that the pressure-area isotherms derived from oscillatory dynamic measurements display phase behaviour similar to that found in equilibrium measurements, albeit at reduced resolution. Both the amphiphiles formed purely elastic films that were characterised by a dilatational modulus that depended on the surface concentration and obeyed a power scaling law. The exponent of the relationship could be related to the thermodynamic conditions prevailing at the interface. The phospholipid monolayer scaling exponent was 2.8 in a temperature range of 20-26 degrees C indicates a favourable solvency of molecules in the bidimensional matrix. A very high scaling exponent (11.8 at 7 degrees C) for quercetin palmitate was interpreted assuming that molecules self-organise in fibre-like structures. This interface structure and the phase behaviour was found consistent with observations of the surface film obtained by Brewster angle microscopy. The structured quercetin 3-O-palmitate monolayers are disrupted by temperature increase or by adding a 0.2 molar fraction of the immiscible dipalmitoyl phosphatidyl choline.  相似文献
