In this paper,ultracold atoms and molecules in a dark magneto-optical trap(MOT) are studied via depumping the cesium cold atoms into the dark hyperfine ground state.The collision rate is reduced to 0.45s-1 and the density of the atoms is increased to 5.6×1011cm-3 when the fractional population of the atoms in the bright hyperfine ground state is as low as 0.15.The vibrational spectra of the ultracold cesium molecules are also studied in a standard MOT and in a dark MOT separately.The experimental results are analyzed by using the perturbative quantum approach.  相似文献

Nonlinear optical recoil-induced resonances have been observed in a gas of cold rubidium atoms trapped in a dark magneto-optical trap. These resonances are used to measure the temperature and velocity distribution of the cold atoms. The velocity distribution of the atoms in the dark magneto-optical trap has an excessive amount of fast atoms as compared to the Maxwell distribution and to the distribution in a standard magneto-optical trap.  相似文献

Spectral characteristics of rubidium atoms confined in a dark magneto-optical trap (DMOT) are measured, including probe absorption spectra and atom density as a function of the cooling and repumping laser frequencies. The trap can capture and cool more than 2.5 × 108 rubidium atoms, confining them in a hyperfine state weakly perturbed by the laser beams used to form the trap. The optical density of the trapped atomic cloud approaches 9. A qualitative model of the DMOT operation is presented, based on the experimental results obtained.  相似文献

We present a simple, robust, space-adjustable dark magneto-optical trap(MOT) for the efficient production of heteronuclear molecules. Double-mixed beams made up of repumping beams and depumping beams propagate in nearly opposite directions in the dark MOT. This optical arrangement can easily adjust the spatial positions of two clouds by changing the power ratio of the two repumping beams, and ensure a good overlap, which is very necessary for the production of heteronuclear molecules. The imaging of cold atoms by camera and the collisioninduced loss rate obtained by recording the loading curve of the cold atoms show that we obtain a perfect overlap of atom clouds. The number of Rb Cs molecules with the double-mixed beams is improved by 70%, which is higher than the one with the single-mixed beam.  相似文献

In this paper, we report the measurement of Rb2 molecule formation rate constant due to a two body process in a magneto-optical trap as a function of the sample temperature. The ground state molecules are detected by two-photon ionization, through the intermediate a 3Σ u + → 23Π g molecular band. Our results show that the Rb2 molecules formed in the MOT could be due to a wave shape resonance, which enhances the molecule formation rate. This effect may be used to enhance the molecule production; and therefore it maybe important to future experiments involving production and trapping of cold ground state molecules.  相似文献

A compact cold atom beam source based on a multistage two-dimensional magneto-optical trap (MOT) has been demonstrated and characterized. The multiple-stage design greatly reduces the overall size of the source apparatus while providing a high flux of atoms. The cold atom beam was used to load a separate MOT in ultrahigh vacuum, and we obtained an actual trap loading rate of 1.5 x 109 atoms/s while using only 20 mW of total laser power for the source. The entire source apparatus, including optics, can fit into a 4 cm x 4 cm x 13 cm volume.  相似文献

We study the loading of sodium atoms into a magneto-optical trap from current-controlled sodium metal dispensers. Contrary to what was previously reported [V. Wippel, C. Binder, W. Huber, L. Windholz, M. Allegrini, F. Fuso, E. Arimondo, Eur. Phys. J. D 17 (2001) 285] we demonstrate a significantly higher number of trapped atoms that make Na dispensers a feasible source of atoms for cold-atom studies. The inherent rise in pressure that naturally arises from metal dispensers as they are heated to release atoms is partially controlled by placing the metal dispensers near the pumping port where an ion pump is connected. We also study the effects of placing the sodium dispensers at different distances from the main vacuum chamber where the atoms are trapped and the effectiveness of using a Zeeman slower to cool the atoms as they emerge from the dispensers. We observe trapping of up to 1.9 × 108 atoms, which is significantly higher by almost three orders of magnitude than previously reported experiments.  相似文献

Loading time is one of the most important dynamic characteristics of a magneto-optical trap. In this paper, we primarily report on a detailed experimental study of the effects of some magneto-optical trap control parameters on loading time, including the background vacuum pressure, the magnetic field gradient, and the intensities of trapping and repumping lasers. We compare the results with previous theoretical and experimental results, and give qualitative analysis. These experimental investigations offer some useful guidelines to control the loading time of magneto-optical traps. The controllable loading time achieved is helpful to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio of photoassociation spectroscopy, which is remarkably improved from 7 to 28.6.  相似文献

In an experimental study, the multi-ionisation of metallic clusters (Nan) has been analysed in collisions with light ions in low charge states (H+, He+, He2+, O3+) at collision velocities below 1 a.u. Cluster ions are produced in charge states up to 5+. The average charge of the nano-particles is found to increase linearly with the variation of projectile velocity and the square of the effective projectile charge, well in agreement with the electronic stopping power of the bulk material. A fraction of 50% to 30% of the total projectile energy loss (decreasing with velocity) is transferred into vibrational modes in good agreement with recent theoretical predictions. An atomic beam has been collimated, compressed, and deflected simultaneously by an atomic beam guide based on an inclined one-dimensional magneto-optical trap (1D-MOT). Isotope-selected rubidium atoms were extracted from the naturally-mixed thermal atomic beam with this method. We could manipulate the transverse displacement of the deflected beam precisely by adjusting the current in the copper rods to generate the quadrupole magnetic field. We could extract more than 50% of the incident atoms as a deflection beam when we combined this deflection technique with the atomic deceleration using a broadband spectral light. 量子投影噪声是影响光晶格钟的一个重要参数,提高磁光阱中装载率有利于降低量子投影噪声,可提升光晶格钟的性能.针对实验所用的汞原子单腔磁光阱,本文分析并计算了磁光阱中汞原子受力情况和一维运动规律,在此基础上用随机数方法对磁光阱中汞原子三维装载进行了数值计算,获得了磁光阱中的稳态原子数,研究了磁光阱的冷却激光的光强、失谐量以及磁场梯度等参数对稳态原子数的影响,得出了获得最优装载率的实验参数.涉及的计算方法和结论对汞原子光晶格钟的实验设计具有参考价值.  相似文献

研究表明,Rb原子磁光阱中所囚禁的原子数目对囚禁光的光强和失谐量,回泵光的强度以及磁场梯度有很大的依赖关系.用二能级系统模型对囚禁原子数目随囚禁光的光强和失谐量的变化关系进行了预估,理论预测的结果与实验结果定性符合.实验结果也展示了囚禁原子数目随回泵光的强度和磁场梯度的变化关系,要定量解释这些实验结果则需要更复杂的理论模型.通过囚禁原子数目对实验参数依赖关系的研究,得到特定的实验参数,来获得最大数目的冷原子. 关键词: 磁光阱 冷原子  相似文献

A method for focusing neutral atoms based on the light-pressure force in a nonuniform magnetic field is proposed and analyzed. Its particular scheme is realized by means of a two-dimensional magneto-optical trap using a thermal beam of Rb atoms. A feature of this focusing method is the linear dependence of the focal length on the longitudinal velocity of atoms in contrast to the quadratic dependence in the known methods of focusing material-particle beams. The minimum size of the waist of the focused atomic beam is equal to 270 μm. Owing to focusing by means of the two-dimensional magneto-optical trap, the velocity monochromatization of a thermal atomic beam is realized: the width of the distribution of the longitudinal atomic velocities in the beam is reduced from 350 to 60 m/s. We report a detailed study of magnetically levitated loading of ultracold 133Cs atoms in a dimple trap. The atomic sample was produced in a combined red-detuned optical dipole trap and dimple trap formed by two small waist beams crossing a horizontal plane. Electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) was observed for the first time on a sample of 85Rb in a magneto-optical trap using low intensity cw copropagating pump and probe optical fields. Narrow resonances revealing the dependence of the ground-state Zeeman sublevels energy structure on the quadrupolar magnetic field and the trapping optical field intensity at different trap positions, were observed. Coherence resonances as narrow as 30 kHz were obtained under low trapping field intensities. The use of EIA spectroscopy for the magnetic field mapping of cold atomic samples is illustrated.  相似文献

实验中首先通过增大四极磁场梯度、提高背景真空度、缩小冷却俘获激光光束直径的方法获得了磁光阱中单原子的装载.其次,通过减小冷却光失谐量、适当增加其光强、同时使用偏振光谱锁频技术抑制冷却光噪声的方法得到了磁光阱中高信号背景比的单原子荧光信号.此外,通过实时反馈控制磁光阱四极磁场梯度的方法,在实验中实现了单原子98%的装载概率.使用Hamburg Brown-Twiss方案测量了磁光阱中的单原子在连续光激发下所辐射荧光的光子统计特性,得到二阶关联度g(2)(τ=0)=0.09.  相似文献
