A complete rock failure process usually involvesopening/sliding of preexisting discontinuities as well as fracturing in intact rock bridges to form persistent failure surfaces and subsequent motions of the generated rock blocksThe recently developed numerical manifold method(NMM)has potential for modelling such a complete failure processHowever, the NMM suffers one limitation,i.e.,unexpectedmaterial domain area change occurs in rotation modellingThis problem can not be easily solved because the rigidbody rotation is not represented explicitly in the NMM.Thediscontinuous deformation analysis(DDA) is specially developed for modelling discrete block systems. The rotationinduced material area change in the DDA modelling canbe avoided conveniently because the rigid body rotation isrepresented in an explicit form.In this paper,a transitiontechnique is proposed and implemented to convert a NMMmodelling to a DDA modelling so as to simulate a completerock failure process entirely by means of the two methods,in which the NMM is adopted to model the early fracturingas well as the transition from continua to discontinua, whilethe DDA is adopted to model the subsequent motion of thegenerated rock blocks.Such a numerical approach also improves the simulation efficiency greatly as compared with acomplete NMM modelling approach. The fracturing of arock slab with pre-existing non-persistent joints located ona slope crest and the induced rockfall process are simulated. The validity of the modelling transition from the NMM tothe DDA is verified and the applicability of the proposed numerical approach is investigated.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the multiscale simulation of plastic deformation of metallic specimens using physically-based models that take into account their polycrystalline microstructure and the directionality of deformation mechanisms acting at single-crystal level. A polycrystal model based on self-consistent homogenization of single-crystal viscoplastic behavior is used to provide a texture-sensitive constitutive response of each material point, within a boundary problem solved with finite elements (FE) at the macroscale. The resulting constitutive behavior is that of an elasto-viscoplastic material, implemented in the implicit FE code ABAQUS. The widely-used viscoplastic selfconsistent (VPSC) formulation for polycrystal deformation has been implemented inside a user-defined material (UMAT) subroutine, providing the relationship between stress and plastic strain-rate response. Each integration point of the FE model is considered as a polycrystal with a given initial texture that evolves with deformation. The viscoplastic compliance tensor computed internally in the polycrystal model is in turn used for the minimization of a suitable-designed residual, as well as in the construction of the elasto-viscoplastic tangent stiffness matrix required by the implicit FE scheme.Uniaxial tension and simple shear of an FCC polycrystal have been used to benchmark the accuracy of the proposed implicit scheme and the correct treatment of rotations for prediction of texture evolution. In addition, two applications are presented to illustrate the potential of the multiscale strategy: a simulation of rolling of an FCC plate, in which the model predicts the development of different textures through the thickness of the plate; and the deformation under 4-point bending of textured HCP bars, in which the model captures the dimensional changes associated with different orientations of the dominant texture component with respect to the bending plane.  相似文献

The paper presents a fracture model for ferroelectric materials taking into account the hysteretic domain switching processes near to the tip of a macroscopic crack. The model is based on the balance of energy supplied by the driving forces, on the one hand, and the total of energies either dissipated by domain switching, stored in the crack wake region or consumed by the formation of new fracture surface, on the other hand. An internal variable theory describes the nonlinear coupled electromechanical material response within the framework of a three-dimensional continuum model. For simplicity, the complex orientation distribution function of domains in a polycrystalline ceramic is approximated by only six representative space orientations. The theory predicts certain dimensionless material parameter combinations which govern the change of fracture toughness under the application of different mechanical and electrical loadings. A comparison with data available in the literature for barium titanate ceramics yields a reasonable coincidence.  相似文献

When copper is deformed to large strains its texture and microstructure change drastically, leading to plastic anisotropy and extended transients when it is reloaded along a different strain path. For predicting these transients, we develop a constitutive model for polycrystalline metals that incorporates texture and grain microstructure. The directional anisotropy in the single crystals is considered to be induced by variable latent hardening associated with cross-slip, cut-through of planar dislocation walls, and dislocation-based reversal mechanisms. These effects are introduced in a crystallographic hardening model which is, in turn, implemented into a polycrystal model. This approach successfully explains the flow response of OFHC Cu pre-loaded in tension (compression) and reloaded in tension (compression), and the response of OFHC Cu severely strained in shear by equal channel angular extrusion and subsequently compressed in each of the three orthogonal directions. This new theoretical framework applies to arbitrary strain path changes, and is fully anisotropic.  相似文献

The recent diagnostic capability of the Omega laser to study solid-solid phase transitions at pressures greater than 10 GPa and at strain rates exceeding 107 s−1 has also provided valuable information on the dynamic elastic-plastic behavior of materials. We have found, for example, that plasticity kinetics modifies the effective loading and thermodynamic paths of the material. In this paper we derive a kinetics equation for the time-dependent plastic response of the material to dynamic loading, and describe the model’s implementation in a radiation-hydrodynamics computer code. This model for plasticity kinetics incorporates the Gilman model for dislocation multiplication and saturation. We discuss the application of this model to the simulation of experimental velocity interferometry data for experiments on Omega in which Fe was shock compressed to pressures beyond the α-to-ε phase transition pressure. The kinetics model is shown to fit the data reasonably well in this high strain rate regime and further allows quantification of the relative contributions of dislocation multiplication and drag. The sensitivity of the observed signatures to the kinetics model parameters is presented.  相似文献

In this paper we derive a macroscopic kinetic law for twin boundary motion from a lattice dynamical model. The model is developed for compound and type-1 twins and it is explicitly illustrated for a Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloy. The governing multiple-well energy is calculated using an effective interatomic potential; a Frenkel-Kontorowa type model is developed for the dynamics at the lattice scale; and a quasi-continuum approximation is used to determine the continuum-scale kinetics. The model predicts that compound twins in the Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloy are an order of magnitude more mobile than type-1 twins which is consistent with experimental observations.  相似文献

The nickel-base alloy Inconel 718 exhibits a strength-differential, that is, a different plastic flow behavior in uniaxial tension and uniaxial compression. A phenomenological viscoplastic model founded on thermodynamics has been extended for material behavior that deviates from classical metal plasticity by including all three stress invariants in the threshold function. The model can predict plastic flow in isotropic materials with or without a flow stress asymmetry as well as with or without pressure dependence. Viscoplastic material parameters have been fit to pure shear, uniaxial tension, and uniaxial compression experimental results at 650°°C. Threshold function material parameters have been fit to the strength-differential. Four classes of threshold functions have been considered and nonproportional loading of hollow tubes, such as shear strain followed by axial strain, has been used to select the most applicable class of threshold function for the multiaxial model as applied to Inconel 718 at 650 °C. These nonproportional load paths containing corners provide a rigorous test of a plasticity model, whether it is time-dependent or not. A J2J3 class model, where J2 and J3 are the second and third effective deviatoric stress invariants, was found to agree the best with the experimental results.  相似文献

The mechanics of material removal during a single-grit rotating scratch has been investigated both analytically and experimentally. The models for cutting, plowing and mixed modes of material removal are analyzed based on the pressure and the frictional resistance. The mixed-mode model takes into account the contribution of built-up edge (BUE) ahead of the tool. To validate the model, single-grit rotating scratch experiments were conducted with a conical diamond tool on pure titanium. It was noticed that the adhesion between the tool and the deformed material, and the hardening properties of material play active roles in the scratching process and provide a driving force to the formation of the BUE. The overall frictional coefficient was found to oscillate strongly on both ends of the scratch but increases steadily over the central span of the scratch length. It is shown that the mixed-mode model captures the salient features of material removal and the size dependence of specific energy during the formation of a rotating scratch. The size dependence of specific energy may be attributed to the size effect of the yield pressure in titanium.  相似文献

In this paper the present authors measured the gas-particle two-phase velocity correlation in sudden expansion gas-particle flows with a phase Doppler particle anemometer(PDPA) and simulated the system behavior by using both a Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) model and a large-eddy simulation(LES).The results of the measurements yield the axial and radial time-averaged velocities as well as the fluctuation velocities of gas and three particle-size groups(30 μ m,50 μ m,and 95 μ m) and the gas-particle velocity correlation for 30 μ m and 50 μ m particles. From the measurements, theoretical analysis, and simulation,it is found that the two-phase velocity correlation of sudden-expansion flows, like that of jet flows,is less than the gas and particle Reynolds stresses. What distinguishes the two-phase velocity correlations of sudden-expansion flow from those of jet and channel flows is the absence of a clear relationship between the two-phase velocity correlation and particle size in sudden-expansion flows. The measurements, theoretical analysis, and numerical simulation all lead to the above-stated conclusions.Quantitatively, the results of the LES are better than those of the RANS model.  相似文献

Micro-macro scale transition theories were developed to model the inelastic behaviour of polycrystals starting from the local behaviour of the grains. The anisotropy of the plastic behaviour of polycrystalline metals was essentially explained by taking into account the crystallographic textures. Issues like plastic heterogeneities due to grain size dispersion, involving the Hall-Petch mechanism at the grain scale, were often not taken into account, and, only the role of a mean grain size was investigated in the literature. Here, both sources of plastic heterogeneities are studied using: (i) experimental data from EBSD measurements and tensile tests, and, (ii) a self-consistent model devoted to elastic-viscoplastic heterogeneous materials. The results of the model are applied to two different industrial IF steels with similar global orientation distributions functions but different mean grain sizes and grain size distributions. The coupled role of grain size distributions and crystallographic textures on the overall tensile behaviour, local stresses and strains, stored energy and overall plastic anisotropy (Lankford coefficients) is deeply analyzed by considering different other possible correlations between crystallographic orientations and grain sizes from the measured data.  相似文献

This article evaluates the effect of material inhomogeneities on the crack-tip driving force in general inhomogeneous bodies and reports results for bimaterial composites. The theoretical model, based on Eshelby material forces, makes no assumptions about the distribution of the inhomogeneities or the constitutive properties of the materials. Inhomogeneities are modeled by making the stored energy have an explicit dependence on the reference coordinates. Then the material inhomogeneity effect on the crack-tip driving force is quantified by the term Cinh, which is the integral of the gradient of the stored energy in the direction of crack growth. The model is demonstrated by two model problems: (i) bimaterial elastic composite using asymptotic solutions and (ii) graded elastic and elastic-plastic compact tension specimen using numerical methods for stress analysis.  相似文献

A model is proposed that deals with the transient mechanical anisotropy during strain-path changes in metals. The basic mechanism is assumed to be latent hardening or softening of the slip systems, dependent on if they are active or passive during deformation, reflecting microstructural mechanisms that depend on the deformation mode rather than on the crystallography. The new model captures the experimentally observed behaviour of cross hardening in agreement with experiments for an AA3103 aluminium alloy. Generic results for strain reversals qualitatively agree with two types of behaviour reported in the literature – with or without a plateau on the stress–strain curve. The influence of the model parameters is studied through detailed calculations of the response of three selected parameter combinations, including the evolution of yield surface sections subsequent to 10% pre-strain. The mathematical complexity is kept to a minimum by avoiding explicit predictions related directly to underpinning microstructural changes. The starting point of the model is a combination of conventional texture and work hardening approaches, where an adapted full-constraints Taylor theory and a simple single-crystal work-hardening model for monotonic strain are used. However, the framework of the model is not restricted to these particular models.  相似文献

The subgrid-scale (SGS) model in a large-eddy simulation (LES) operates on a range of scales which is marginally resolved by discretization schemes. Accordingly, the discretization scheme and the subgrid-scale model are linked. One can exploit this link by developing discretization methods from subgrid-scale models, or the converse. Approaches where SGS models and numerical discretizations are fully merged are called implicit LES (ILES). Recently, we have proposed a systematic framework for the design, analysis, and optimization of nonlinear discretization schemes for implicit LES. In this framework parameters inherent to the discretization scheme are determined in such a way that the numerical truncation error acts as a physically motivated SGS model. The resulting so-called adaptive local deconvolution method (ALDM) for implicit LES allows for reliable predictions of isotropic forced and decaying turbulence and of unbounded transitional flows for a wide range of Reynolds numbers. In the present paper, ALDM is evaluated for the separated flow through a channel with streamwise-periodic constrictions at two Reynolds numbers Re = 2,808 and Re = 10,595. We demonstrate that, although model parameters of ALDM have been determined for isotropic turbulence at infinite Reynolds number, it successfully predicts mean flow and turbulence statistics in the considered physically complex, anisotropic, and inhomogeneous flow regime. It is shown that the implicit model performs at least as well as an established explicit model.   相似文献

This paper describes a combined fracture–plastic model for concrete. Tension is handled by a fracture model, based on the classical orthotropic smeared crack formulation and the crack band approach. It employs the Rankine failure criterion, exponential softening, and it can be used as a rotated or a fixed crack model. The plasticity model for concrete in compression is based on the Menétrey–Willam failure surface, the plastic volumetric strain as a hardening/softening parameter and a non-associated flow rule based on a nonlinear plastic potential function. Both models use a return-mapping algorithm for the integration of constitutive equations. Special attention is given to the development of an algorithm for the combination of the two models. The suggested combination algorithm is based on a recursive substitution, and it allows for the two models to be developed and formulated separately. The algorithm can handle cases when failure surfaces of both models are active, but also when physical changes such as crack closure occur. The model can be used to simulate concrete cracking, crushing under high confinement and crack closure due to crushing in other material directions. The model is integrated in a general finite element package ATENA and its performance is evaluated by comparisons with various experimental results from the literature.  相似文献
