The new compounds [(acac)2Ru(μ‐boptz)Ru(acac)2] ( 1 ), [(bpy)2Ru(μ‐boptz)Ru(bpy)2](ClO4)2 ( 2 ‐(ClO4)2), and [(pap)2Ru(μ‐boptz)Ru(pap)2](ClO4)2 ( 3 ‐(ClO4)2) were obtained from 3,6‐bis(2‐hydroxyphenyl)‐1,2,4,5‐tetrazine (H2boptz), the crystal structure analysis of which is reported. Compound 1 contains two antiferromagnetically coupled (J=?36.7 cm?1) RuIII centers. We have investigated the role of both the donor and acceptor functions containing the boptz2? bridging ligand in combination with the electronically different ancillary ligands (donating acac?, moderately π‐accepting bpy, and strongly π‐accepting pap; acac=acetylacetonate, bpy=2,2′‐bipyridine pap=2‐phenylazopyridine) by using cyclic voltammetry, spectroelectrochemistry and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy for several in situ accessible redox states. We found that metal–ligand–metal oxidation state combinations remain invariant to ancillary ligand change in some instances; however, three isoelectronic paramagnetic cores Ru(μ‐boptz)Ru showed remarkable differences. The excellent tolerance of the bpy co ‐ ligand for both RuIII and RuII is demonstrated by the adoption of the mixed ‐ valent form in [L2Ru(μ‐boptz)RuL2]3+, L=bpy, whereas the corresponding system with pap stabilizes the RuII states to yield a phenoxyl radical ligand and the compound with L=acac? contains two RuIII centers connected by a tetrazine radical‐anion bridge.  相似文献

The four-coordinate iron complexes, [Fe(III)(pda(2-))(pda(.-))] (1) and [AsPh(4)](2)[Fe(II)(pda(2-))(2)] (2) were synthesized and fully characterized; pda(2-) is the closed-shell ligand N,N'-bis(pentafluorophenyl)-o-phenylenediamido(2-), and pda(.-) represents its one-electron-oxidized pi-radical anion. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies of 1 and 2 performed at 100(2) K reveal a distorted tetrahedral coordination environment at the iron centers, as a result of the intramolecular pi-pi interactions between C(6)F(5) rings. The electronic structures of 1 and 2 were unambiguously determined by a combination of (57)Fe M?ssbauer and electronic spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility measurements, X-ray crystallography, and DFT calculations. Compound 1 contains an intermediate-spin Fe(III) ion (S(Fe)=3/2) strongly antiferromagnetically coupled to a pi-ligand radical (S(R)=1/2) yielding an S(t)=1 ground state. Complex 2 possesses a high-spin Fe(II) center (S(Fe)=2) with two closed-shell dianionic ligands. Complexes 1 and 2 are members of the redox series [Fe(pda)(2)](n) with n=0 for 1 and n=2- for 2. The anion n=1- has been reported previously in the coordination salt [Fe(dad)(3)][Fe(pda)(2)] (3; dad=N,N'-bis(phenyl)-2,3-dimethyl-1,4-diaza-1,3-butadiene). A complicated temperature-dependent electronic structure has been observed for this salt. Here, DFT calculations performed on 3 confirm the previous assignments of spin- and oxidation-states. Thus, [Fe(pda)(2)](n) (n=0, 1-, 2-) constitutes an electron-transfer series, which has also been established by cyclic voltammetry; the mono- and dications (n=1+ and 2+) are also accessible in solution, but have not been further investigated. The (57)Fe M?ssbauer spectra of [Fe(pda)(2)](n) species in 1 and 3 show extremely large quadrupole splitting constants due to addition of the valence and covalence contributions that have been confirmed by DFT calculations.  相似文献

Crystallographically characterised 3,6-bis(2'-pyridyl)pyridazine (L) forms complexes with {(acac)2Ru} or {(bpy)2Ru2+}via one pyridyl-N/pyridazyl-N chelate site in mononuclear Ru(II) complexes (acac)2Ru(L), 1, and [(bpy)2Ru(L)](ClO4)2, [3](ClO4)2. Coordination of a second metal complex fragment is accompanied by deprotonation at the pyridazyl-C5 carbon {L --> (L - H+)-} to yield cyclometallated, asymmetrically bridged dinuclear complexes [(acac)2Ru(III)(mu-L - H+)Ru(III)(acac)2](ClO4), [2](ClO4), and [(bpy)2Ru(II)(mu-L - H+)Ru(II)(bpy)2](ClO4)3, [4](ClO4)3. The different electronic characteristics of the co-ligands, sigma donating acac- and pi accepting bpy, cause a wide variation in metal redox potentials which facilitates the isolation of the diruthenium(III) form in [2](ClO4) with antiferromagnetically coupled Ru(III) centres (J = -11.5 cm(-1)) and of a luminescent diruthenium(II) species in [4](ClO4)3. The electrogenerated mixed-valent Ru(II)Ru(III) states 2 and [4]4+ with comproportionation constants Kc > 10(8) are assumed to be localised with the Ru(III) ion bonded via the negatively charged pyridyl-N/pyridazyl-C5 chelate site of the bridging (L - H+)- ligand. In spectroelectrochemical experiments they show similar intervalence charge transfer bands of moderate intensity around 1300 nm and comparable g anisotropies (g1-g3 approximatly 0.5) in the EPR spectra. However, the individual g tensor components are distinctly higher for the pi acceptor ligated system [4]4+, signifying stabilised metal d orbitals.  相似文献

The interconversion mechanisms between three idealized polytopal forms (a square pyramid and two trigonal bipyramids) of [M(bidentate)(2)(unidentate)] were investigated by an original combination of molecular mechanics (MM) and density functional theory (DFT) approaches. MM was used to model the mechanistic rearrangement path, and DFT to study selected points along this path. The test case was a five-coordinate [Ni(acac)(2)(py)] species. In the case of [Ni(acac)(2)(py)] it was confirmed (both by MM and by DFT) that the three polytopal forms do indeed represent shallow local minima, of which the square pyramid (SQP) is more stable than the other two. Small energy barriers that separate the three minima prevent spontaneous rearrangement among the polytopal forms in geometry-optimization simulations. The driving force for MM simulation of the polytopal rearrangements was supplied through the L-M-L angle bending terms. MM results for relative energies and geometries are fully supported by DFT. Finally, the implication of the present results to explain some racemization mechanisms of octahedral complexes (namely, the intramolecular bond rupture of tris(chelate) species, and intermolecular dissociation of bis(bidentate) species) is briefly discussed.  相似文献

The neutral, monocationic, and dicationic linear trinuclear ruthenium compounds [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)][BF(4)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)], and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)](2) (dpa=the anion of dipyridylamine) have been synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. Cyclic voltammetric and spectroelectrochemical studies on the neutral and oxidized compounds are reported. These compounds undergo three successive metal-centered one-electron-transfer processes. X-ray structural studies reveal a symmetrical Ru(3) unit for these compounds. While the metal--metal bond lengths change only slightly, the metal--axial ligand lengths exhibit a significant decrease upon oxidation of the neutral complex. The electronic configuration of the Ru(3) unit changes as the axial chloride ligands are replaced by the stronger "pi-acid" cyanide axial ligands. Magnetic measurements and (1)H NMR spectra indicate that [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)] and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)](2) are in a spin state of S=0 and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)], and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)][BF(4)] are in spin states of S=1/2, 1, and 3/2, respectively. These results are consistent with molecular orbital (MO) calculations.  相似文献

A series of unusual dinuclear mu2-(eta2-NO)-nitrosoaniline-bridged complexes [[(CO)3Re(mu-X)]2ONC6H4NR2] (X = Cl, Br, I; R = Me, Et) with dichroic properties have been synthesised by reaction of pentacarbonylhalogenorhenium(I) [(CO)5ReX] (X = Cl, Br, I) with the corresponding nitrosoaniline derivatives R2NC6H4NO (R = Me, Et). The deeply coloured solutions in CH2Cl2 show broad UV/Vis absorptions from 595 to 620 nm depending on the halogen bridges and N substituents. Single crystals of all six compounds exhibit a pronounced linear dichroism. The molecular structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray analyses. All the compounds contain two face-shared octahedra, with two halogens and one NO ligand as bridges. The NO ligand coordinates in a nonsymmetrical eta2-like fashion with N or O coordination to each Re centre. Therefore, the C-nitroso group and the planar NC2 moiety of NR2 both lie almost exactly within the symmetry plane of the dinuclear complexes. These complexes belong to the novel and simple class of neutral dinuclear C-nitroso complexes that include the rare, non-assisted mu2-(eta2-NO) ligand function and have only single halogen atoms in bridging positions.  相似文献

Reaction of the side-on end-on dinitrogen complex [{(NPN)Ta}(2)(mu-H)(2)(mu-eta(1):eta(2)-N(2))] (1; in which NPN=(PhNSiMe(2)CH(2))(2)PPh), with the Lewis acids XR(3) results in the adducts [{(NPN)Ta}(2)(mu-H)(2)(mu-eta(1):eta(2)-NNXR(3))], XR(3)=GaMe(3) (2), AlMe(3) (3), and B(C(6)F(5))(3) (4). The solid-state molecular structures of 2, 3, and 4 demonstrate that the N-N bond length increases relative to those found in 1 by 0.036, 0.043, and 0.073 A, respectively. In solution complexes 2-4 are fluxional as evidenced by variable-temperature (1)H NMR spectroscopy. The (15)N{(1)H} NMR spectra of 2-4 are reported; furthermore, their vibrational properties and electronic structures are evaluated. The vibrational structures are found to be closely related to that of the parent complex 1. Detailed spectroscopic analysis on 2-4 leads to the identification of the theoretically expected six normal modes of the Ta(2)N(2) core. On the basis of experimental frequencies and the QCB-NCA procedure, the force constants are determined. Importantly, the N-N force constant decreases from 2.430 mdyn A(-1) in 1 to 1.876 (2), 1.729 (3), and 1.515 mdyn A(-1) (4), in line with the sequence of N-N bond lengths determined crystallographically. DFT calculations on a generic model of the Lewis acid adducts 2-4 reveal that the major donor interaction between the terminal nitrogen atom and the Lewis acid is mediated by a sigma/pi hybrid molecular orbital of N(2), corresponding to a sigma bond. Charge analysis performed for the adducts indicates that the negative charge on the terminal nitrogen atom of the dinitrogen ligand increases with respect to 1. The lengthening of the N-N bond observed for the Lewis adducts is therefore explained by the fact that charge donation from the complex fragment into the pi* orbitals of dinitrogen is increased, while electron density from the N-N bonding orbitals p(sigma) and pi(h) is withdrawn due to the sigma interaction with the Lewis acid.  相似文献

The complex series [Ru(pap)(Q)2]n ([ 1 ]n–[ 4 ]n; n=+2, +1, 0, ?1, ?2) contains four redox non‐innocent entities: one ruthenium ion, 2‐phenylazopyridine (pap), and two o‐iminoquinone moieties, Q=3,5‐di‐tert‐butyl‐N‐aryl‐1,2‐benzoquinonemonoimine (aryl=C6H5 ( 1+ ); m‐(Cl)2C6H3 ( 2+ ); m‐(OCH3)2C6H3 ( 3+ ); m‐(tBu)2C6H3 ( 4 +)). A crystal structure determination of the representative compound, [ 1 ]ClO4, established the crystallization of the ctt‐isomeric form, that is, cis and trans with respect to the mutual orientations of O and N donors of two Q ligands, and the coordinating azo N atom trans to the O donor of Q. The sensitive C? O (average: 1.299(3) Å), C? N (average: 1.346(4) Å) and intra‐ring C? C (meta; average: 1.373(4) Å) bond lengths of the coordinated iminoquinone moieties in corroboration with the N?N length (1.292(3) Å) of pap in 1 + establish [RuIII(pap0)(Q.?)2]+ as the most appropriate electronic structural form. The coupling of three spins from one low‐spin ruthenium(III) (t2g5) and two Q.? radicals in 1 +– 4 + gives a ground state with one unpaired electron on Q.?, as evident from g=1.995 radical‐type EPR signals for 1 +– 4 +. Accordingly, the DFT‐calculated Mulliken spin densities of 1 + (1.152 for two Q, Ru: ?0.179, pap: 0.031) confirm Q‐based spin. Complex ions 1 +– 4 + exhibit two near‐IR absorption bands at about λ=2000 and 920 nm in addition to intense multiple transitions covering the visible to UV regions; compounds [ 1 ]ClO4–[ 4 ]ClO4 undergo one oxidation and three separate reduction processes within ±2.0 V versus SCE. The crystal structure of the neutral (one‐electron reduced) state ( 2 ) was determined to show metal‐based reduction and an EPR signal at g=1.996. The electronic transitions of the complexes 1 n– 4 n (n=+2, +1, 0, ?1, ?2) in the UV, visible, and NIR regions, as determined by using spectroelectrochemistry, have been analyzed by TD‐DFT calculations and reveal significant low‐energy absorbance (λmax>1000 nm) for cations, anions, and neutral forms. The experimental studies in combination with DFT calculations suggest the dominant valence configurations of 1 n– 4 n in the accessible redox states to be [RuIII(pap0)(Q.?)(Q0)]2+ ( 1 2+– 4 2+)→[RuIII(pap0)(Q.?)2]+ ( 1 +– 4 +)→[RuII(pap0)(Q.?)2] ( 1 – 4 )→[RuII(pap.?)(Q.?)2]? ( 1 ?– 4 ?)→[RuIII(pap.?)(Q2?)2]2? ( 1 2?– 4 2?).  相似文献

The oxido-pincer ligand pydotH2 (2,6-bis(1-hydroxy-1-o-tolyl-ethyl-η2O,O′)pyridine) forms two different CuII containing complexes when prepared from anhydrous CuCl2. A combination of EPR spectroscopy and EXAFS allowed to structurally characterise the light-green dimer of the formula [(pydotH2)CuCl(μ-Cl)2ClCu(pydotH2)] and the penta-coordinate olive-green monomer [(pydotH2)CuCl2]. The molecular entities imply that the ligand remains protonated upon coordination. When dissolved in DMF both compounds form monomeric species [(pydotH2)CuCl2(DMF)] which could be characterised in detail by EPR, UV-Vis/NIR spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements. The assignments were supported by comparison with CuII complexes of the related ligands 2,6-bis(hydroxymethyl)pyridine (pydimH2) and 2,6-bis(1-hydroxy-1-methyl)pyridine (pydipH2).  相似文献

The electronic structures of the five members of the electron transfer series [Mo(bpy)3]n (n=3+, 2+, 1+, 0, 1?) are determined through a combination of techniques: electro‐ and magnetochemistry, UV/Vis and EPR spectroscopies, and X‐ray crystallography. The mono‐ and dication are prepared and isolated as PF6 salts for the first time. It is shown that all species contain a central MoIII ion (4d3). The successive one‐electron reductions/oxidations within the series are all ligand‐based, involving neutral (bpy0), the π‐radical anion (bpy.)1?, and the diamagnetic dianion (bpy2?)2?: [MoIII(bpy0)3]3+ (S=3/2), [MoIII(bpy.)(bpy0)2]2+ (S=1), [MoIII(bpy.)2(bpy0)]1+ (S=1/2), [MoIII(bpy.)3] (S=0), and [MoIII(bpy.)2(bpy2?)]1? (S=1/2). The previously described diamagnetic dication “[MoII(bpy0)3](BF4)2” is proposed to be a diamagnetic dinuclear species [{Mo(bpy)3}22‐O)](BF4)4. Two new polynuclear complexes are prepared and structurally characterized: [{MoIIICl(Mebpy0)2}22‐O)]Cl2 and [{MoIV(tpy.)2}22‐MoVIO4)](PF6)2?4 MeCN.  相似文献
