The propagation of finite-amplitude time-harmonic shear horizontal waves, in a pre-stressed compressible elastic layer of finite thickness embedded between two identical compressible elastic half-spaces, is investigated. This is accomplished by combining finite-amplitude linearly polarized inhomogeneous transverse plane wave solutions in the half-spaces and finite-amplitude linearly polarized unattenuated transverse plane wave solutions in the layer. The layer and half-spaces are made of different pre-stressed compressible neo-Hookean materials. The dispersion relation which relates wave speed and wavenumber is obtained in explicit form. The special case where the interfaces between the layer and the half-spaces are principal planes of the left Cauchy–Green deformation tensor is also investigated. Numerical results are presented showing the variation of the shear horizontal wave speed with the pre-stress and the propagation angle.  相似文献

An unconstrained, non-linearly elastic, semi-infinite solid is maintained in a state of large static plane strain. A power-law relation between the pre-stretches is assumed and it is shown that this assumption is well motivated physically and is likely to describe the state of pre-stretch for a wide class of materials. A general class of strain-energy functions consistent with this assumption is derived. For this class of materials, the secular equation for incremental surface waves and the bifurcation condition for surface instability are shown to reduce to an equation involving only ordinary derivatives of the strain-energy equation. A compressible neo-Hookean material is considered as an example and it is found that finite compressibility has little quantitative effect on the speed of a surface wave and on the critical ratio of compression for surface instability.  相似文献

We theoretically study the existence conditions for Love waves in a layer with arbitrary thickness and arbitrary physical and mechanical properties on a regularly laminated half-space. Also we analyze the behavior of the dispersion curves depending on the physical and geometrical properties of the layer and the mechanical properties of the upper layer of the half-space. It is demonstrated that the behavior of the spectrum and the ranges of surface waves can efficiently be controlled by varying the thickness of the layer.Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 40, No. 9, pp. 131–136, September 2004.  相似文献

The paper investigates the existence of Love wave propagation in an initially stressed homogeneous layer over a porous half-space with irregular boundary surfaces. The method of separation of variables has been adopted to get an analytical solution for the dispersion equation and thus dispersion equations have been obtained in several particular cases. Propagation of Love wave is influenced by initial stress parameters, corrugation parameter and porosity of half-space. Velocity of Love waves have been plotted in several figures to study the effect of various parameters and found that the velocity of wave decreases with increases of non-dimensional wave number. It has been observed that the phase velocity decreases with increase of initial stress parameters and porosity of half-space.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive an asymptotic approximation of the low-frequency motion in a pre-stressed compressible elastic layer, valid in both long- and short-wave regimes. For this purpose, we shall use Padé approximations. Comparisons with numerical solutions are provided and show good agreement for all wavelength. Results appropriate to the classical linear isotropic case are also briefly provided.  相似文献

To investigate the features of Love waves in a layered functionally graded piezoelectric structure, the mathematical model is established on the basis of the elastic wave theory, and the WKB method is applied to solve the coupled electromechanical field differential equation. The solutions of the mechanical displacement and electrical potential function are obtained for the piezoelectric layer and elastic substrate. The dispersion relations of Love waves are deduced for electric open and short cases on the free surface respectively. The actual piezoelectric layer–elastic substrate systems are taken into account, and some corresponding numerical examples are proposed comparatively. Thus, the effects of the gradient variation about material constants on the phase velocity, the group velocity, the coupled electromechanical factor and the cutoff frequency are discussed in detail. So the propagation behaviors of Love waves in inhomogeneous medium is revealed, and the dispersion and the anti-dispersion are analyzed. The conclusions are significant both theoretically and practically for the surface acoustic wave devices.  相似文献

The effect of an imperfect interface, on time-harmonic extensional wave propagation in a pre-stressed symmetric layered composite is considered. The bimaterial composite consists of incompressible isotropic elastic materials. The shear spring type resistance model employed to simulate the imperfect interface can accommodate the extreme cases of perfect bonding and a fully slipping interface. The dispersion relation obtained by formulating the incremental boundary-value problem and the use of the propagator matrix technique, is analyzed at the low and high wavenumber limits. For the perfectly bonded and imperfect interface cases in the low wavenumber region, only the fundamental mode has a finite phase speed, while other higher modes have an infinite phase speed when the dimensionless wavenumber approaches zero. However, for the fully slipping interface in the low wavenumber region, both the fundamental mode and the next lowest mode have finite phase speeds. In the high wavenumber region, when the dimensionless wavenumber tends to infinity, the phase speeds of the fundamental mode and the higher modes depend on the phase speeds of the surface and interfacial waves and on the limiting phase speed of the composite. An expression to determine the cut-off frequencies is obtained from the dispersion relation. Numerical examples of dispersion curves are presented, where when the material has to be prescribed either Mooney–Rivlin material or Varga material is assumed. The effect of the imperfect interface is clearly evident in the numerical results.  相似文献

The Stroh formalism is essentially a spatial Hamiltonian formulation and has been recognized to be a powerful tool for solving elasticity problems involving generally anisotropic elastic materials for which conventional methods developed for isotropic materials become intractable. In this paper we develop the Stroh/Hamiltonian formulation for a generally constrained and prestressed elastic material. We derive the corresponding integral representation for the surface-impedance tensor and explain how it can be used, together with a matrix Riccati equation, to calculate the surface-wave speed. The proposed algorithm can deal with any form of constraint, pre-stress, and direction of wave propagation. As an illustration, previously known results are reproduced for surface waves in a pre-stressed incompressible elastic material and an unstressed inextensible fibre-reinforced composite, and an additional example is included analyzing the effects of pre-stress upon surface waves in an inextensible material.  相似文献

The paper studies the propagation of Love waves in a non-homogeneous substratum over an initially stressed heterogeneous half-space. The dispersion equation of phase velocity is derived. The velocities of Love waves are calculated numerically as a function of kH and presented in a number of graphs, where k is the wave number, and H is the thickness of the layer. The case of Gibson’s half-space is also considered. It is observed that the speed of Love waves is finite in the vicinity of the surface of the half-space and vanishes as the depth increases for a particular wave number. It is also observed that an increase in compressive initial stresses causes decreases of Love waves velocity for the same frequency, and the tensile initial stress of small magnitude in the half-space causes increase of the velocity.  相似文献

In the present paper, we are interested in the propagation of Rayleigh waves in an isotropic elastic half-space coated with a thin isotropic elastic layer. The contact between the layer and the half space is assumed to be smooth. The main purpose of the paper is to establish an approximate secular equation of the wave. By using the effective boundary condition method, an approximate, yet highly accurate secular equation of fourth-order in terms of the dimensionless thickness of the layer is derived. From the secular equation obtained, an approximate formula of third-order for the velocity of Rayleigh waves is established. The approximate secular equation and the formula for the velocity obtained in this paper are potentially useful in many practical applications.  相似文献

A closed form solution to the second order elasticity problem, when an isotropic compressible elastic half-space undergoes a deformation owing to a non-uniformly distributed normal load, is presented. The method of integral transform is employed and the case when loading is distributed, in accordance with Hertz's law, is discussed. The limiting solution for incompressible isotropic elastic material is also derived. Numerical calculations for the second order elastic material for the displacement and the normal stress in thez-direction are carried out. It is found that, in comparision to the linear elastic case, the displacement increases and the normal stress decreases in the second order elastic material

In this paper, formulas for the velocity of Rayleigh waves in compressible isotropic solids subject to uniform initial deformations are derived using the theory of cubic equation. They are explicit, have simple algebraic forms, and hold for a general strain energy function. Unlike the previous investigations where the derived formulas for Rayleigh wave velocity are approximate and valid for only small enough values of pre-strains, this paper establishes exact formulas for Rayleigh wave velocity being valid for any range of pre-strains. When the prestresses are absent, the obtained formulas recover the Rayleigh wave velocity formula for compressible elastic solids. Since obtained formulas are explicit, exact and hold for any range of pre-strains, they are good tools for evaluating nondestructively prestresses of structures.  相似文献

The dispersive behavior of small amplitude waves propagating along a non-principal direction in a pre-stressed, compressible elastic layer is considered. One of the principal axes of stretch is normal to the elastic layer and the direction of propagation makes an angle θ with one of the in-plane principal axes. The dispersion relations which relate wave speed and wavenumber are obtained for both symmetric and anti-symmetric motions by formulating the incremental boundary value problem for a general strain energy function. The behavior of the dispersion curves for symmetric waves is for the most part similar to that of the anti-symmetric waves at the low and high wavenumber limits. At the low wavenumber limit, depending on the pre-stress and propagation angle, it may be possible for both the fundamental mode and the next lowest mode to have finite phase speeds, while other higher modes have an infinite phase speed. At the high wavenumber limit, the phase speeds of the fundamental mode and the higher modes tend to the Rayleigh surface wave speed and the limiting wave speeds of the layer, respectively. Numerical results are presented for a Blatz–Ko material and the effect of the propagation angle is clearly illustrated.  相似文献

This paper is about the reflection of a plane acoustic wave incident on a material modeled as a dipolar gradient solid. The dipolar gradient model has been used in order to account for the micro-structure present in multi-scale materials (e.g. biological issues, composites, meta-materials). The influence of the internal lengths of the gradient model on the reflection coefficient is described and discussed. A dispersive behavior is observed at high frequency, when the wavelength of the disturbance approaches the characteristic size of the material. This topic is of major interest for understanding the role played by the micro-structure in the reflection phenomena occurring at fluid–solid interfaces and find its application to material properties characterization by means of ultrasound waves.  相似文献

A three-layer structure model is proposed for investigating the effect of a soft elastic middle layer on the propagation behavior of Love waves in piezoelectric layered systems, with "soft" implying that the bulk-shear-wave velocity of the middle layer is smaller than that of the upper sensitive layer. Dispersion equations are obtained for unelectroded and traction-free upper surfaces which, in the limit, can be reduced to those for classical Love waves. Systematic parametric studies are subsequently carried out to quantify the effects of the soft middle layer upon Love wave propagation, including its thickness, mass density, dielectric constant and elastic coefficient. It is demonstrated that whilst the thickness and elastic coefficient of the middle layer affect significantly Love wave propagation, its mass density and dielectric constant have negligible influence. On condition that both the thickness and elastic coefficient of the middle layer are vanishingly small so that it degenerates into an imperfectly bonded interface, the three-layer model is also employed to investigate the influence of imperfect interfaces on Love waves propagating in piezoelectric layer/elastic substrate systems. Upon comparing with the predictions obtained by employing the traditional shear-lag model, the present three-layer structure model is found to be more accurate as it avoids the unrealistic displacement discontinuity across imperfectly bonded interfaces assumed by the shearlag model, especially for long waves when the piezoelectric layer is relatively thin.  相似文献

In the present work, treating the large arteries as a thin-walled, long and circularly cylindrical, prestressed elastic tube with variable cross-section and using the reductive perturbation method, we have studied the amplitude modulation of non-linear waves in such a fluid-filled elastic tube. By considering the blood as an incompressible viscous fluid, the evolution equation is obtained as the dissipative non-linear Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients. It is shown that this type of equations admit a solitary wave solution with a variable wave speed. It is observed that, the wave speed increases with distance for narrowing tubes while it decreases for expanding tubes.  相似文献

The propagation of Love waves along the boundary between a half-space and a layer of different pre-stressed material is examined for incompressible isotropic elastic materials. The secular equation is obtained for a general strain-energy function and analysed for particular deformations and materials. For the neo-Hookean strain-energy function, numerical results are obtained to illustrate the dependence of the wavespeed on the wave number and on the deformation.  相似文献

In this paper we consider exact solutions for plane and axisymmetric deformations for a class of compressible elastic materials we call coharmonic. The coharmonic materials are derived from the harmonic materials by using Shield's inverse deformation theorem. The governing equations for the coharmonic material show the same kind of simplification associated with the harmonic materials. The equations reduce to first-order linear equations depending on an arbitrary harmonic function. They are intractable in general, so various ansätze are investigated. Boundary value problems for the coharmonic materials are compared with the same problems for harmonic materials. For certain boundary value problems, the harmonic materials exhibit well-known problematic behaviour which limits their use as models of material behaviour. The corresponding solutions for the coharmonic materials do not display these non-physical features.  相似文献
