The bulk magnetic susceptibility chi(T,B) of YbRh(2)(Si(0.95)Ge(0.05))(2) has been investigated close to the field-induced quantum critical point at B(c) = 0.027 T. For B < or= 0.05 T a Curie-Weiss law with a negative Weiss temperature is observed at temperatures below 0.3 K. Outside this region, the susceptibility indicates ferromagnetic quantum critical fluctuations, chi(T) proportional, variantT-0.6 above 0.3 K. At low temperatures the Pauli susceptibility follows chi(0) proportional, variant(B-B(c))(-0.6) and scales with the coefficient of the T(2) term in the electrical resistivity. The Sommerfeld-Wilson ratio is highly enhanced and increases up to 30 close to the critical field.  相似文献

We report low-temperature calorimetric, magnetic, and resistivity measurements on the antiferromagnetic (AF) heavy-fermion metal YbRh(2)Si(2) ( T(N)=70 mK) as a function of magnetic field B. While for fields exceeding the critical value B(c0) at which T(N)-->0 the low-temperature resistivity shows an AT2 dependence, a 1/(B-B(c0)) divergence of A(B) upon reducing B to B(c0) suggests singular scattering at the whole Fermi surface and a divergence of the heavy quasiparticle mass. The observations are interpreted in terms of a new type of quantum critical point separating a weakly AF ordered from a weakly polarized heavy Landau-Fermi liquid state.  相似文献

The low-temperature thermal expansion of CeCoIn(5) single crystals measured parallel and perpendicular to magnetic fields B oriented along the c axis yields the volume thermal-expansion coefficient β. Considerable deviations of β(T) from Fermi-liquid behavior occur already within the superconducting region of the (B, T) phase diagram and become maximal at the upper critical field B(c2)(0). However, β(T) and the Grüneisen parameter Γ are incompatible with a quantum critical point at B(c2)(0), but allow for a quantum criticality shielded by superconductivity and extending to negative pressures for B相似文献

We investigate quantum phase transitions in the frustrated antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model for SrCu2(BO3)(2) by using the series expansion method. It is found that a novel spin-gap phase, adiabatically connected to the plaquette-singlet phase, exists between the dimer and the magnetically ordered phases known thus far. When the ratio of the competing exchange couplings alpha( = J'/J) is varied, this spin-gap phase exhibits a first- (second-) order quantum phase transition to the dimer (the magnetically ordered) phase at the critical point alpha(c1) = 0.677(2) [ alpha(c2) = 0. 86(1)]. Our results shed light on some controversial arguments about the nature of quantum phase transitions in this model.  相似文献

We show that finite angular momentum pairing chiral superconductors on the triangular lattice have point zeroes in the complex gap function. A topological quantum phase transition takes place through a nodal superconducting state at a specific carrier density x(c) where the normal state Fermi surface crosses the isolated zeros. For spin-singlet pairing, we show that the second-nearest-neighbor (d+id)-wave pairing can be the dominant pairing channel. The gapless critical state at x (c) approximately 0.25 has six Dirac points and is topologically nontrivial with a T3 spin relaxation rate below T(c). This picture provides a possible explanation for the unconventional superconducting state of Na(x)Co O(2). yH(2)O. Analyzing a pairing model with strong correlation using the Gutzwiller projection and symmetry arguments, we study these topological phases and phase transitions as a function of Na doping.  相似文献

Several quantum paramagnets exhibit magnetic-field-induced quantum phase transitions to an antiferromagnetic state that exists for H c1 ≤ H ≤ H c2. For some of these compounds, there is a significant asymmetry between the low- and high-field transitions. We present specific heat and thermal conductivity measurements in NiCl2-4SC(NH2)2, together with calculations which show that the asymmetry is caused by a strong mass renormalization due to quantum fluctuations for H ≤ H c1 that are absent for H ≥ H c2. We argue that the enigmatic lack of asymmetry in thermal conductivity is due to a concomitant renormalization of the impurity scattering.  相似文献

The temperature (T)-pressure (P) phase diagrams are reported for the tetragonal layered compounds CeRu(2)Al(2)B, CeRu(2)Ga(2)B, and CeRu(2)Ga(2)C, studied by magnetization, specific heat and electrical resistivity. These systems exhibit localized 4f magnetic ordering with ferromagnetic ground states at T(C)?=?12.8?K, 16.3?K, and 17.2?K, respectively. Chemical and applied pressure both increase T(C) in a similar manner. The evolution of properties with chemical and applied pressure suggests that these phase diagrams may be connected in a Doniach-like picture where CeRu(2)Al(2)B is furthest from the possible quantum phase transition and CeRu(2)Ga(2)C is the nearest.  相似文献

Effects of normal-state resistivity rho(n) on the vortex phase diagram at low temperature T have been studied based on dc and ac complex resistivities for thick amorphous MoxSi(1-x) films. It is commonly observed irrespective of rho(n) that, in the limit T=0, the vortex-glass-transition line B(g)(T) is independent of T and extrapolates to a field below the T=0 upper critical field B(c2)(0), indicative of the quantum-vortex-liquid (QVL) phase in the regime B(g)(0)相似文献

The magnetic properties of Ce(Ru0.85Rh0.15)2Si2 were studied by neutron scattering and measurements of magnetization, susceptibility, specific heat and thermal expansion as a function of temperature. We observe a crossover from a high temperature localized spin to a low temperature heavy electron state. Spin density wave (SDW) behavior appears in the heavy electron state below TN = 5.5 K and the volume change due to spin quantum fluctuations associated with the SDW and the Kondo screening is reminiscent of moment-volume instabilities of the INVAR and anti-INVAR behavior of 3 d transition metal alloys.  相似文献

In a magnetic field, spin-ladders undergo two zero-temperature phase transitions at the critical fields Hc1 and Hc2. An experimental review of static and dynamical properties of spin-ladders close to these critical points is presented. The scaling functions, universal to all quantum critical points in one-dimension, are extracted from (a) the thermodynamic quantities (magnetization) and (b) the dynamical functions (NMR relaxation). A simple mapping of strongly coupled spin ladders in a magnetic field on the exactly solvable XXZ model enables to make detailed fits and gives an overall understanding of a broad class of quantum magnets in their gapless phase (between Hc1 and Hc2). In this phase, the low temperature divergence of the NMR relaxation demonstrates its Luttinger liquid nature as well as the novel quantum critical regime at higher temperature. The general behavior close these quantum critical points can be tied to known models of quantum magnetism. Received: 13 March 1998 / Received in final form and Accepted: 21 July 1998  相似文献

We study a single species of fermionic atoms in an "effective" magnetic field at total filling factor ν(f)=1, interacting through a p-wave Feshbach resonance, and show that the system undergoes a quantum phase transition from a ν(f)=1 fermionic integer quantum Hall state to ν(b)=1/4 bosonic fractional quantum Hall state as a function of detuning. The transition is in the (2+1)D Ising universality class. We formulate a dual theory in terms of quasiparticles interacting with a Z(2) gauge field and show that charge fractionalization follows from this topological quantum phase transition. Experimental consequences and possible tests of our theoretical predictions are discussed.  相似文献

SrCu2(BO3)(2) is a two-dimensional dimerized quantum spin system which is close to a quantum critical point. The sound velocity for the longitudinal and transverse acoustic modes shows strong spin-lattice effects. The shear c(66) mode exhibits a pronounced softening of 4.5% as a function of temperature and softens more than 25% in fields up to 50 T. This huge effect occurs in the vicinity of the magnetization plateaus m/m(0) = 1/4 and 1/3. We can analyze quantitatively the temperature dependence of all measured elastic modes c(11), c(44), and c(66) with an exchange striction mechanism. The soft c(66) mode with B(2g) symmetry enables us to predict the possible symmetry of the condensed triplets in some plateaus.  相似文献

We have measured the complex conductivity sigma of a Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+delta) thin film between 0.2 and 0.8 THz. We find sigma in the superconducting state to be well described as the sum of contributions from quasiparticles, condensate, and order parameter fluctuations which draw 30% of the spectral weight from the condensate. An analysis based on this decomposition yields a quasiparticle scattering rate on the order of k(B)T/Planck's over 2pi for temperatures below T(c).  相似文献

Quantum-critical behavior of the itinerant electron antiferromagnet (V0.9Ti0.1)2O3 has been studied by single-crystal neutron scattering. By directly observing antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations in the paramagnetic phase, we have shown that the characteristic energy depends on temperature as c1 +c2T3/2, where c1 and c2 are constants. This T3/2 dependence demonstrates that the present strongly correlated d-electron antiferromagnet clearly shows the criticality of the spin-density-wave quantum phase transition in three space dimensions.  相似文献

We present a scenario for the peculiar coexistence of charge fluctuations observed in quasi-2D 1/4-filled organic conductors theta-(BEDT-TTF)2X in the quantum critical regime where the charge ordering is suppressed down to zero temperature. The scenario is explored in the extended Hubbard model including electron-phonon couplings on an anisotropic triangular lattice. We find that the coexisting fluctuations emerge from two different instabilities, the "Wigner crystallization on a lattice" driven by the off-site Coulomb repulsion and the charge-density-wave formation due to the nesting of the Fermi surface, not from phase competition or real-space inhomogeneity. This mechanism explains the contrastive temperature dependence of two fluctuations in experiments.  相似文献

An antiferroquadrupolar ordering at T(Q)=0.11 K has been found in a Pr-based superconductor PrIr(2)Zn(20). The measurements of specific heat and magnetization revealed the non-Kramers Γ(3) doublet ground state with the quadrupolar degrees of freedom. The specific heat exhibits a sharp peak at T(Q)=0.11 K. The increment of T(Q) in magnetic fields and the anisotropic B-T phase diagram are consistent with the antiferroquadrupolar ordered state below T(Q). The entropy release at T(Q) is only 20% of Rln2, suggesting that the quadrupolar fluctuations play a role in the formation of the superconducting pairs below T(c)=0.05 K.  相似文献

NiCl(2)-4SC(NH(2))(2) (DTN) is a quantum S=1 chain system with strong easy-pane anisotropy and a new candidate for the Bose-Einstein condensation of the spin degrees of freedom. ESR studies of magnetic excitations in DTN in fields up to 25 T are presented. Based on analysis of the single-magnon excitation mode in the high-field spin-polarized phase and previous experimental results [Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 077204 (2006)10.1103/PhysRevLett.96.077204], a revised set of spin-Hamiltonian parameters is obtained. Our results yield D=8.9 K, J(c) = 2.2 K, and J(a,b) = 0.18 K for the anisotropy, intrachain, and interchain exchange interactions, respectively. These values are used to calculate the antiferromagnetic phase boundary, magnetization, and the frequency-field dependence of two-magnon bound-state excitations predicted by theory and observed in DTN for the first time. Excellent quantitative agreement with experimental data is obtained.  相似文献

We report (11)B and (195)Pt NMR measurements in noncentrosymmetric superconductor Li(2)Pt(3)B. We find that the spin susceptibility measured by the Knight shift remains unchanged across the superconducting transition temperature T(c). With decreasing temperature (T) below T(c), the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T(1) decreases with no coherence peak and is in proportion to T3. These results indicate that the Cooper pair is in the spin-triplet state and that there exist line nodes in the superconducting gap function. They are in sharp contrast to those in the isostructural Li(2)Pd(3)B which is a spin-singlet, s-wave superconductor, and are ascribed to the enhanced spin-orbit coupling due to the lack of spatial inversion symmetry. Our finding points to a new paradigm where exotic superconductivity arises in the absence of electron-electron correlations.  相似文献

In Ref. 1, the first full sentence in the right-hand column of p. 1608 should read as: 'Although BBO is phase matchable down to 187 nm and shorter in this configuration without a very large (2-4 degrees ) change in theta (and hence in d(eff)), and B2 is also suitable to accommodate the phase matching, tunability below 187.9 nm becomes limited by the exponential increase in crystal absorption.'  相似文献

It has recently been suggested that the organic compound NiCl2-4SC(NH2)2 (DTN) undergoes field-induced Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of the Ni spin degrees of freedom. The Ni S = 1 spins exhibit three-dimensional XY antiferromagnetism above a critical field H(c1) approximately 2 T. The spin fluid can be described as a gas of hard-core bosons where the field-induced antiferromagnetic transition corresponds to Bose-Einstein condensation. We have determined the spin Hamiltonian of DTN using inelastic neutron diffraction measurements, and we have studied the high-field phase diagram by means of specific heat and magnetocaloric effect measurements. Our results show that the field-temperature phase boundary approaches a power-law H - H(c1) proportional variant T(alpha)(c) near the quantum critical point, with an exponent that is consistent with the 3D BEC universal value of alpha = 1.5.  相似文献
