In this paper, we will characterize all types of essential closed surfaces in a class of surface sum ofI-bundle of closed surfaces, and give an application of the classificatioa in the surface sum of two 3-manifolds.

In this paper, we discuss the crossing numbers of two one-vertex maps on orientable surfaces. By using a reductive method, we give the crossing number of two one-vertex maps with one face on an orientable surface and the crossing number of a one-vertex map with one face and a one-vertex map with two faces on an orientable surface. This provides a lower bound for the crossing number of two general maps on an orientable surface.

Let F be a field with char F = 2, l a maximal nilpotent subalgebra of the symplectic algebra sp（2m,F）. In this paper, we characterize linear maps of l which preserve zero Lie brackets in both directions. It is shown that for m ≥ 4, a map φ of l preserves zero Lie brackets in both directions if and only if φ = ψcσT0λαφdηf, where ψc,σT0,λα,φd,ηf are the standard maps preserving zero Lie brackets in both directions.

In this paper,the 16-parameter nonconforming tetrahedral element which has an energy-orthogonal shape function space is presented for the discretization of fourth order elliptic partial differential operators in three spatial dimensions.The newly constructed element is proved to be convergent for a model biharmonic equation.

In this paper, we deal with a Dirichlet problem for linear elliptic equations related to Gauss measure. For this problem, we study the converse of some inequalities proved by other authors, in the sense that we study the case of equalities and show that equalities are achieved only in the ＂symmetrized＂ situations. In addition, under other assumptions, we give a different form of comparison results and discuss the corresponding case of equalities.

Symplectic Group Actions on Homotopy Elliptic Surfaces

In this paper, the authors study the homologically trivial symplectic group actions on homotopy elliptic surfaces E（n） and get some rigidity results.     

Embedded Surfaces for Symplectic Circle Actions

The purpose of this article is to characterize symplectic and Hamiltonian circle actions on symplectic manifolds in terms of symplectic embeddings of Riemann surfaces.More precisely, it is shown that(1) if(M, ω) admits a Hamiltonian S~1-action, then there exists a two-sphere S in M with positive symplectic area satisfying c1(M, ω), [S] 0,and(2) if the action is non-Hamiltonian, then there exists an S~1-invariant symplectic2-torus T in(M, ω) such that c1(M, ω), [T] = 0. As applications, the authors give a very simple proof of the following well-known theorem which was proved by Atiyah-Bott,Lupton-Oprea, and Ono: Suppose that(M, ω) is a smooth closed symplectic manifold satisfying c1(M, ω) = λ· [ω] for some λ∈ R and G is a compact connected Lie group acting effectively on M preserving ω. Then(1) if λ 0, then G must be trivial,(2) if λ = 0, then the G-action is non-Hamiltonian, and(3) if λ 0, then the G-action is Hamiltonian.     

Monodromy Groups of Irregular Elliptic Surfaces

Monodromy groups, i.e. the groups of isometries of the intersection lattice L _X H ₂/torsion generated by the monodromy action of all deformation families of a given surface, have been computed by the author for any minimal elliptic surface with p _g > q = 0. New and refined methods are now employed to address the cases of minimal elliptic surfaces with p _g q > 0. Thereby we get explicit families such that any isometry is in the group generated by their monodromies or does not respect the invariance of the canonical class or the spinor norm. The monodromy is also shown to act by the full symplectic group on the first homology modulo torsion.     

Actions symplectiques de groupes compacts (Symplectic Actions of Compact Groups)

For any symplectic action of a compact connected group on a compact connected symplectic manifold, we show that the intersection of the Weyl chamber with the image of the moment map is a closed convex polyhedron. This extends Atiyah–Guillemin–Sternberg–Kirwan's convexity theorems to non-Hamiltonian actions. As a consequence, we describe those symplectic actions of a torus which are coisotropic (or multiplicity free), i.e. which have at least one coisotropic orbit: they are the product of an Hamiltonian coisotropic action by an anhamiltonian one. The Hamiltonian coisotropic actions have already been described by Delzant thanks to the convex polyhedron. The anhamiltonian coisotropic actions are actions of a central torus on a symplectic nilmanifold. This text is written as an introduction to the theory of symplectic actions of compact groups since complete proofs of the preliminary classical results are given. Existence of Symplectic Structures on Torus Bundles Over Surfaces

Let E be the total space of a locally trivial torus bundle over a surface Σ_g of genus g > 1. Using Seiberg–Witten theory and spectral sequences, we prove that E carries a symplectic structure if and only if the homology class of the fiber [T²] is nonzero in H₂(E, ℝ). Elliptic Fibrations and Symplectic Automorphisms on K3 Surfaces

Nikulin has classified all finite abelian groups acting symplectically on a K3 surface and he has shown that the induced action on the K3 lattice U ³ ⊕ E ₈(?1)² depends only on the group but not on the K3 surface. For all the groups in the list of Nikulin we compute the invariant sublattice and its orthogonal complement by using some special elliptic K3 surfaces.     

Linear Operators Preserving Symplectic Group over a Field Consisting of at Least Four Elements

Suppose F is a field consisting of at least four elements. Let Mn(F) and SP2n(F) be the linear space of all n×n matrices and the group of all 2n×2n symplectic matrices over F, respectively. A linear operator L:M2n(F)→M2n(F) is said to preserve the symplectic group if L(SP2n(F))=SP2n(F). It is shown that L is an invertible preserver of the symplectic group if and only if L takes the form (i) L(X)=QPXP-1 for any X∈M2n(F) or (ii) L(X)=QPXTP-1 for any X∈M2n(F), where Q∈SP2n(F) and P is a generalized symplectic matrix. This generalizes the result derived by Pierce in Canad J. Math., 3(1975), 715-724.
