A flow injection procedure for the sequential spectrophotometric determination of iron(II) and iron(III) in pharmaceutical products is described. The method is based on the catalytic effect of iron(II) on the oxidation of iodide by bromate at pH = 4.0. The reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically by measuring the absorbance of produced triiodide ion at 352 nm. The activating effect for the catalysis of iron(II) was extremely exhibited in the presence of oxalate ions, while oxalate acted as a masking agent for iron(III). The iron(III) in a sample solution could be determined by passing through a Cd-Hg reductor column introduced in the FIA system to reduce iron(III) to iron(II), which allows total iron determination. Under the optimum conditions, iron(II) and iron(III) could be determined over the range of 0.05 - 5.0 and 0.10 - 5.0 microg ml(-1), respectively with a sampling rate of 17 +/- 5 h(-1). The experimental limits of detection were 0.03 and 0.04 microg ml(-1) for iron(II) and iron(III), respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied to the speciation of iron in pharmaceutical products.  相似文献

Hexacyanoferrate(III) was used as a mediator in the determination of total iron, as iron(II)-1,10-phenanthroline, at a screen-printed carbon sensor device. Pre-reduction of iron(III) at −0.2 V versus Ag/AgCl (1 M KCl) in the presence of hexacyanoferrate(II) and 1,10-phenanthroline (pH 3.5-4.5), to iron(II)-1,10-phenanthroline, was complete at the unmodified carbon electrode surface. Total iron was then determined voltammetrically by oxidation of the iron(II)-1,10-phenanthroline at +0.82 V, with a detection limit of 10 μg l−1.In potable waters, iron is present in hydrolysed form, and it was found necessary to change the pH to 2.5-2.7 in order to reduce the iron(III) within 30 s. A voltammetric response was not found at lower pH values owing to the non-formation of the iron(II)-1,10-phenanthroline complex below pH 2.5.Attempts to incorporate all the relevant reagents (1,10-phenanthroline, potassium hexacyanoferrate(III), potassium hydrogen sulphate, sodium acetate, and potassium chloride) into a modifying coated PVA film were partially successful. The coated electrode behaved very satisfactorily with freshly-prepared iron(II) and iron(III) solutions but with hydrolysed iron, the iron(III) signal was only 85% that of iron(II).  相似文献

The ion-pair extraction equilibria of the iron(II) and iron(III) chelates of 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR, H(2)L) are described. The anionic chelates were extracted into chloroform with benzyldimethyltetradecylammonium chloride (QC1) as counter-ion. The extraction constants were estimated to be K(ex1)(Fe(II)) = [Q{Fe(II)(HL)L}](0)/[Q(+)][{Fe(II)(HL)L}(-)] = 10(8.59 +/- 0.11), K(ex2)(Fe(II)) = [Q(2){Fe(II)L(2)}](o)/ [Q(+)](2)[{Fe(II)L(2)}(2-)] = 10(12.17 +/- 0.10) and K(ex1)(Fe(III)) = [Q{Fe((III))L(2)}](o)/(Q(+)][{Fe(III)L(2)}(-)] = 10(6.78 +/- 0.15) at I = 0.10 and 20 degrees , where [ ](o) is concentration in the chloroform phase. Aggregation of Q{Fe(III)L(2)} in chloroform was observed and the dimerization constant (K(d) = [Q(2){Fe(III)L(2)}(2)](o)/[Q{Fe(III)L(2)}](o)(2)) was evaluated as log K(d) = 4.3 +/- 0.3 at 20 degrees . The neutral chelates of {Fe(II)(HL)(2)} and {Fe(III)(HL)L}, and the ion-pair of the cationic chelate, {Fe(III)(HL)(2)}ClO(4), were also extracted into chloroform or nitrobenzene. The relationship between the forms and extraction properties of the iron(II) and iron(III) PAR chelates are discussed in connection with those of the nickel(II) and cobalt(III) complexes. Correlation between the extraction equilibrium data and the elution behaviour of some PAR chelates in ion-pair reversed-phase partition chromatography is also discussed.  相似文献

A problem exists when closely related minerals are found in paragenetic relationships. The identification of such minerals cannot be undertaken by normal techniques such as X-ray diffraction. Vibrational spectroscopic techniques may be applicable especially when microtechniques or fibre-optic techniques are used. NIR spectroscopy is one technique, which can be used for the identification of these paragenetically related minerals and has been applied to the study of selected iron(II) and iron(III) sulphates. The near-IR spectral regions may be conveniently divided into four regions: (a) the high wavenumber region>7500 cm(-1), (b) the high wavenumber region between 6400 and 7400 cm(-1) attributed to the first overtone of the fundamental hydroxyl stretching mode, (c) the 5500-6300 cm(-1) region attributed to water combination modes of the hydroxyl fundamentals of water, and (d) the 4000-5500 cm(-1) region attributed to the combination of the stretching and deformation modes of the iron(II) and iron(III) sulphates. The minerals containing iron(II) show a strong, broad band with splitting, around 11,000-8000 cm(-1) attributed to (5)T(2g)-->(5)E(g) transition. This shows the ferrous ion has distorted octahedral coordination in some of these sulphate minerals. For each of these regions, the minerals show distinctive spectra, which enable their identification and characterisation. NIR spectroscopy is a less used technique, which has great application for the study of minerals, particularly minerals that have hydrogen in the structure either as hydroxyl units or as water bonded to the cation as is the case for iron(II) and iron(III) sulphates. The study of minerals on planets is topical and NIR spectroscopy provides a rapid technique for the distinction and identification of iron(II) and iron(III) sulphates minerals.  相似文献

Electrospray ionization of appropriate precursors is used to deliver [Fe (III)-heme] (+) and [Fe (II)-hemeH] (+) ions as naked species in the gas phase where their ion chemistry has been examined by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry. In the naked, four-coordinate [Fe (II)-hemeH] (+) and [Fe (III)-heme] (+) ions, the intrinsic reactivity of iron(II)- and iron(III)-hemes is revealed free from any influence due to axial ligand, counterion, or solvent effects. Ligand (L) addition and ligand transfer equilibria with a series of selected neutrals are attained when [Fe (II)-hemeH] (+), corresponding to protonated Fe (II)-heme, is allowed to react in the FT-ICR cell. A Heme Cation Basicity (HCB) ladder for the various ligands toward [Fe (II)-hemeH] (+), corresponding to -Delta G degrees for the process [Fe (II)-hemeH] (+) + L --> [Fe (II)-hemeH(L)] (+) and named HCB (II), can thus be established. The so-obtained HCB (II) values are compared with the corresponding HCB (III) values for [Fe (III)-heme] (+). In spite of pronounced differences displayed by various ligands, NO shows a quite similar HCB of about 67 kJ mol (-1) at 300 K toward both ions, estimated to correspond to a binding energy of 124 kJ mol (-1). Density Functional Theory (DFT) computations confirm the experimental results, yielding very similar values of NO binding energies to [Fe (II)-hemeH] (+) and [Fe (III)-heme] (+), equal to 140 and 144 kJ mol (-1), respectively. The kinetic study of the NO association reaction supports the equilibrium HCB data and reveals that the two species share very close rate constant values both for the forward and for the reverse reaction. These gas phase results diverge markedly from the kinetics and thermodynamic behavior of NO binding to iron(II)- and iron(III)-heme proteins and model complexes in solution. The requisite of either a very labile or a vacant coordination site on iron for a facile addition of NO to occur, suggested to explain the bias for typically five-coordinate iron(II) species in solution, is fully supported by the present work.  相似文献

The electrochemical behaviour of a series of iron(II) complexes with the tetradentate ligand NN′-1,2-phenylenebis(salicylideneimine), [Fe(II)L], was studied in non-aqueous solvents. The redox properties of the complexes were related to the nature of the substituents in the aromatic rings. Attention was devoted to dioxygen reactivity of the complexes. The electrode activity of the catechol—[NN′-1,2-phenylenebis(salicylidene-iminato) iron(III)] system, [Fe(III)L(catH)], was also studied; the results gave evidence that both the electrochemical oxidation and the chemical oxidation by dioxygen of [Fe(II)L] in the presence of catechol lead to the complex [Fe(III)L(catH)].  相似文献

The bidentate ligand diformylhydrazine (OHC-HN-NH-CHO), DFH, combines with iron(II) and iron(III) in alkaline media in the pH range 7.3-9.3 to form an intensely colored red-purple iron(III) complex with an absorption maximum at 470 nm. Beer's law is obeyed for iron concentrations from 0.25 to 13 microg mL(-1). The molar absorptivity was in the range 0.3258x10(4)-0.3351x10(4) L mol(-1) cm(-1) and Sandell's sensitivity was found to be 0.0168 microg cm(-2). The method has been applied to the determination of iron in industrial waste, ground water, and pharmaceutical samples.  相似文献

A new simple, very sensitive, selective and accurate procedure for the determination of trace amounts of iron(II) by solid-phase spectrophotometry (SPS) has been developed. The procedure is based on fixation of iron(II) as 2,3-dichloro-6-(3-carboxy-2-hydroxy-1-naphthylazo)quinoxaline on a styrene-divinylbenzene anion-exchange resin. The absorbance of resin sorbed iron(II) complex is measured directly at 743 and 830nm. Iron(III) was determined by difference measurements after reduction of iron(III) to iron(II) with hydroxylamine hydrochloride. Calibration is linear over the range 1.0-20 microgL(-1) of Fe(II) with relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of 1.65% (n=10.0). The detection and quantification limits for 100mL sample system are 280 and 950 ngL(-1) using 0.5 g of the exchanger. The molar absorptivity and Sandell sensitivity are also calculated and found to be 2.86 x 10(6)Lmol(-1)cm(-1) and 0.0196 ngcm(-2), respectively. The proposed procedure has been successfully applied to determine iron(II) and iron(III) in tap, mineral and well water samples.  相似文献

A flow injection method for the sequential determination of iron(II) and iron(III) was developed. It is based on the differential reaction kinetics of iron(II) and iron(III) with Tiron in a double-injection FI system. The proposed method employs the accelerating action of copper(II) for the oxidation of iron(II) in the presence of Tiron. A linear calibration graph is obtained for iron (II) and iron(III) in the concentration range 1.8 × 10–5– 1.8 × 10–4 mol/L; the throughput of samples is 30 injections/h.  相似文献

A simultaneous determination with UV detection/capillary electrophoresis for Fe(II) and Fe(III) was achieved using a sulfonated bathophenantholine and desfferioxamine B. When the electrophoretic buffer was 60 mmol l(-1) SDS, 10 mmol l(-1) acetic acid (pH 4.0) and 10 mmol l(-1) ascorbic acid and at -10 kV, the iron(II) and iron(III) could not only be completely separated, but also be sensitively determined.  相似文献

A flow injection analysis (FIA) method is presented for the simultaneous determinations of iron(III)-vanadium(V) and of iron(III)-chromium(VI) using a single spectrophotometric detector. In the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), iron(III) is easily reduced by vanadium(IV) to iron(II), followed by the formation of a red iron(II)-phen complex (lambda(max) = 510 nm), which shows a positive FIA peak at 510 nm corresponding to the concentration of iron(III). On the other hand, in the presence of diphosphate the reductions of vanadium(V) and/or chromium(VI) with iron(II) occur easily because the presence of diphosphate causes an increase in the reducing power of iron(II). In this case iron(II) is consumed during the reaction and a negative FIA peak at 510 nm corresponding to the concentration of vanadium(V) and/or chromium(VI) is obtained. The proposed method makes it possible to obtain both positive (for iron(III)) and negative (for vanadium(V) or chromium(VI)) FIA peaks with a single injection.  相似文献

Electrospray ionization (ESI) of dilute solutions of 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol (BINOL) and iron(II) or iron(III) sulfate in methanol/water allows the generation of monocationic complexes of iron and deprotonated BINOL ligands with additional methanol molecules in the coordination sphere, and the types of complexes formed can be controlled by the valence of the iron precursors used in ESI. Thus, iron(II) sulfate leads to [(BINOLate)Fe(CH3OH)n]+ complexes (n=0-3), whereas usage of iron(III) sulfate allows the generation of [(BINOLdiate)-Fe(CH3OH)n]+ cations (n=0-2); here, BINOLate and BINOLdiate stand for singly and doubly deprotonated BINOL, respectively. Upon collision-induced dissociation, the mass-selected ions with n>0 first lose the methanol ligands and then undergo characteristic fragmentations. Bare [(BINOLdiate)Fe]+, a formal iron(III) species, undergoes decarbonylation, which is known as a typical fragmentation of ionized phenols and phenolates either as free species or as the corresponding metal complexes. The bare [(BINOLate)Fe]+ cation, on the other hand, preferentially loses neutral FeOH to afford an organic C20H12O+* cation radical, which most likely corresponds to ionized 1,1'-dinaphthofurane.  相似文献

The feasibility of using bis(delta2-2-imidazolinyl)-5,5'-dioxime (H2L) for the selective extraction of iron(III) from aqueous solutions was investigated by employing an solvent-extraction technique. The extraction of iron(III) from an aqueous nitrate solution in the presence of metal ions, such as cobalt(II), copper(II) and nickel(II), was carried out using H2L in binary and multicomponent mixtures. Iron(III) extraction has been studied as a function of the pH, equilibrium time and extractant concentration. From the extracted complex species in the organic phase, iron(III) was stripped with 2 M HNO3, and later determined using atomic-absorption spectrometry. The extraction was found to significantly depend on the aqueous solution pH. The extraction of iron(III) with H2L increases with the pH value, reaching a maximum in the zone of pH 2.0, remaining constant between 2 and 3.5 and subsequently decreasing. The quantitative extraction of iron(III) with 5 x 10(-30 M H2L in toluene is observed at pH 2.0. H2L was found to react with iron(III) to form ligand complex having a composition of 1:2 (Fe:H2L).  相似文献

A reversed phase ion-paired chromatographic method that can be used to determine trace amounts of iron (II,III), nickel (II) and copper (II) was developed and applied to the determination of iron (II) and iron (III) levels in natural water. The separation of these metal ions as their 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (bathophenanthroline) chelates on an Inertsil ODS column was investigated by using acetonitrile-water (80/20, v/v) containing 0.06 M perchloric acid as mobile phase and diode array spectrophotometric detection at 250-650 nm. Chromatographic parameters such as composition of mobile phase and concentration of perchloric acid in mobile phase were optimized. The calibration graphs of iron (II), nickel (II) and copper (II) ions were linear (r > 0.991) in the concentration range 0-0.5, 0-2.0 and 0-4.0 mug ml(-1), respectively. The detection limit of iron (II), nickel (II) and copper (II) were 2.67, 5.42 and 18.2 ng ml(-1) with relative standard deviation (n = 5) of 3.11, 5.81 and 7.16% at a concentration level of 10 ng ml(-1) for iron (II) and nickel (II) and 25 ng ml(-1) for copper (II), respectively. The proposed method was applied to the determination of iron(II) and iron(III) in tap water and sea water samples without any interference from other common metal ions.  相似文献

A trace method for iron, based on ion-exchanger colorimetry, has been developed. 1,10-Phenanthroline is used as the colour reagent for iron(II) and citrate as the masking reagent for iron(III). Total iron can be determined after reduction of iron(III) to iron(II) with hydroxylamine. It is possible to determine iron at mug/l.-levels in different oxidation states in natural waters.  相似文献

The photochemical autoxidation of aqueous, acidic sulfur(IV) solutions was studied in the absence and presence of iron(II) by a newly introduced technique using a diode-array spectrophotometer, in which the same light source is used to drive and detect the reaction. Based on detailed kinetic and stoichiometric data sets, a non-chain mechanism is proposed for the autoxidation of sulfur(IV). In this mechanism, excited hydrated sulfur dioxide, *H2O.SO2, first reacts with O2 to form peroxomonosulfate ion, HSO5-, which rapidly oxidizes another H2O.SO2 to give hydrogensulfate ion as a final product. In the presence of iron(II), the formation of iron(III) was detected, which can be interpreted through the simultaneous contribution of two additional pathways: some of the HSO5- formed oxidizes iron(II) instead of sulfur(iv), and *H2O.SO2 also reacts directly with iron(II) to yield iron(III). This mechanism provides a sufficient quantitative interpretation of all experimental observations.  相似文献

It has been traditionally considered that catechols release iron from ferritin by reduction to iron(II), which diffuses through the ferritin channels into the intracellular milieu where it participates in the Fenton reaction, producing highly toxic hydroxyl radicals. However, in the present work we have proved that the mechanism of the release of iron from ferritin by catechol does not take place by iron(II) reduction but by direct iron(III) chelation and therefore without iron(II) production. A possible extension of these findings to other catechols is discussed on the basis of the stability with respect to the internal redox reaction of the iron(III)-catechol complexes.  相似文献

A simple potentiometric method is presented for successive determination of iron(III) and cobalt(II) by complexometric titration of the iron(III) with EDTA at pH 2 and 40 degrees , followed by redox titration of the cobalt(II) complex with 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-bipyridyl at pH 4-5 and 40 degrees , with gold(III). There is no interference in either determination from common metal ions other than copper(II), which severely affects the cobalt determination but can be removed by electrolysis. The method has been successfully applied to determination of iron and cobalt in Kovar and Alnico magnet alloys.  相似文献

The flow injection analysis systems have been developed for the simultaneous determination of iron(III) and copper(II) and of iron(III) and palladium(II) based on the photochemical reactions of their thiocyanato-complexes. In the first system, a sample solution was injected in to nitric acid solution and mixed with ammonium thiocyanate solution, followed by spectrophotometric monitoring of the thiocyanato-complexes formed. Another aliquot of the same sample solution was injected and the thiocyanato-complexes formed in the same way were irradiated by UV light before spectrophotometric monitoring. In another system, the absorbance of thiocyanato-complexes formed by each sample injection was monitored with two flow cells aligned with the same optical path before and after UV irradiation. The difference in the extent of photochemical decomposition of the thiocyanato-complexes enabled simultaneous determinations of iron(III) and copper(II) and of iron(III) and palladium(II) at levels of several μg ml−1 to some tens μg ml−1 in their admixtures. Sample throughputs are 40 and 20 h−1 by the former and latter systems, respectively.  相似文献
