进入后PC时代，嵌入式技术是无可置疑的热点。人们的计算需求更为广泛，应用形式更为多样化。据有关数据显示，到2008年，包括计算机、消费电子、通信、汽车、工业控制、政府行业等六大主要应用领域，嵌入式产品将会达到80亿美元的市场规模。

中国3G终端厂商竞争力前三名

易观国际(Analysys International)近日发布《移动终端和渠道—3G手机厂商竞争专题报告》中预计，中国政府将于明年初发放3G牌照，2006年中国3G用户将会达到1500万。在3G时代即将来临、市场对终端厂商技术、设计、设备生产、渠道管理、运营商关系、配件生产能力等竞争力提出越来越高的要求，竞争日趋激烈。     

中国电信需表明态度以安抚终端厂商

汽车厂商推3G汽车终端

11月23日到30日，在中国汽车业内，被定格为“广州时间”，因为一年一度的广州车展常被看作中国汽车市场的“年终盘点”。值得注意的是，在车展期间，三大运营商纷纷亮出新的合作计划：中国移动和长安汽车正式签署协议，计划将TD—SCDMA技术运用到长安汽车旗下悦翔、奔奔等车型上：中国电信与安吉星携手推出的车载信息通信服务系统也首次现身，安装在车展时发布的上海通用凯迪拉克新赛威SLS车型上；与此同时，中国联通集团客户部总经理田文科告诉记者，联通也正在与上汽集团商讨合作，具体产品将在明年一季度推出。

低成本：FPGA厂商角逐的技术战场

FPGA和CPLD正在向高速、高密度、低功耗、低成本的趋势发展，并以这种优势进入原来固定结构定制芯片所服务的大批量、低成本应用市场中。有关专家预测，由于掩膜成本持续居高不下，估计有超过60％的ASIC设计至少要进行一次以上的重制，从而导致产品面市推迟、成本预算超支。今后FPGA将会在100万门至500万门范围的设计应用中占主导地位，将替代传统的ASIC以实现复杂的设计功能。     

Customer-engineer relationship management for coverged communications service providers

Thanks to the advent of converged communications services (often referred to as ‘triple play’), the next generation service engineer will need radically different skills, processes and tools from today’s counterpart. Why? In order to meet the challenges of installing and maintaining services based on multi-vendor software and hardware components in an IP-based network environment. The converged services environment is likely to be ’smart’ and support flexible and dynamic interoperability between appliances and computing devices. These radical changes in the working environment will inevitably force managers to rethink the role of service engineers in relation to customer relationship management. This paper aims to identify requirements for an information system to support converged communications service engineers with regard to customer-engineer relationship management. Furthermore, an architecture for such a system is proposed and how it meets these requirements is discussed.     

Impact of Galileo commercial service on location-based service providers: business model analysis and policy implications

Today's mobile location-based services (LBSs) largely depend on a free-of-charge, best-effort positioning technology, called global positioning system, which is controlled by the US military. The European alternative Galileo will not only offer a similar best-effort system by 2020, but also a premium-rate service known as Galileo commercial service (CS). Galileo CS is planned to provide higher positioning accuracy, improved security due to signal authentication and service guarantee. While the technology behind Galileo is often studied, the impact of Galileo CS on the LBS marketplace is rarely discussed. In this article, we fill this gap by analysing how improved accuracy, authentication and service guarantee may impact the business models of LBS providers. We do so by interviewing service providers, policy makers and industry experts on what new services would be enabled; technological alternatives that may emerge in the coming years; and organisational and financial issues that service providers face when adopting such a premium-priced positioning signal. We find that a more accurate, secure and reliable global navigation satellite system signal enables a range of new LBSs, although several alternative technologies are emerging that may make Galileo CS obsolete before it is even launched. To convince the LBS providers to adopt Galileo CS, the institution operating Galileo should get governments on board early on for building trust and should consider progressive pricing schemes. Still, service providers are sceptical about adopting Galileo CS, and the hope to recoup any investments in Galileo may thus be in vain.     

Pricing and revenue sharing strategies for Internet service providers

One of the challenges facing the networking industry today is to increase the profitability of Internet services. This calls for economic mechanisms that can enable providers to charge more for better services and collect a fair share of the increased revenues. In this paper, we present a generic pricing model for Internet services jointly offered by a group of providers. We show that noncooperative pricing strategies may lead to unfair distribution of profit and may even discourage future upgrades to the network. As an alternative, we propose a fair revenue-sharing policy based on the weighted proportional fairness criterion. We show that this fair allocation policy encourages collaboration among providers, and hence can produce higher profits for all providers. Based on the analysis, we suggest a scalable algorithm for providers to implement this policy in a distributed way and study its convergence property.     

D-HRSP: Dataset of helpful reviews for service providers

Most common services are now provided through mobile applications; thus, the importance of mobile application reviews has increased. Service providers and developers seek helpful reviews to find useful information to improve their services. However, with currently existing indicators, e.g., star rating systems, it is difficult to identify reviews that are directly related to the quality of the service. Thus, in this study, we defined helpful mobile application reviews for service providers and developers based on the components of an existing service quality evaluation model. We also provide the D-HRSP (dataset of helpful reviews for service providers), which is a labeled dataset that can be used to examine helpful reviews. We also report the experimental results obtained with simple natural language processing techniques and machine learning and deep learning classification models. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed definition can help address real-life problems and create opportunities for additional research into the identification of helpful mobile application reviews.

Evolution and service requirements of CBR applications on ATM networks

Broadband integrated networks based on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology are being proposed to provide a single integrated access to a variety of services and applications. Constant bit rate services will form an important part of this unified networking solution. In this paper, we identify and describe the relevant aspects related to the implementation of CBR services on ATM. First, we identify two broad categories of potential CBR services for broadband ATM networks. The ATM infrastructure for the identified services is then developed along with the required functionalities of different network elements. Finally, end-to-end performance objectives for the ATM network are determined and verified empirically based on results of laboratory experiments. These performance objectives help us determine the minimum QOS required by the highest class of service category offered by an ATM network.     

Evaluation of authentication interworking methods among multiple WLAN service providers

The interworking technologies to combine multiple WLANs into a single virtual system have not been studied extensively, particularly for legacy wireless networks. In this paper, we study how to provide the inter‐domain authentication among multiple WLAN service providers with minimum overhead. We introduce five inter‐domain authentication methods, referred to as Info‐Sharing, AP‐Seq, AP‐Con, AS‐Seq and AS‐Con, which are designed in the form of an extension to the standard IEEE 802.1x and EAP protocols. In order to evaluate these methods, we compare their authentication time, implementation cost, confidentiality, flexibility and increment of messages. From the evaluation with analysis and experiments, we show that the AS‐Con method can provide the authentication interworking function with minimal overhead on legacy network equipments. Also it is shown that, even though the authentication of AS‐Con takes longer than the previous method, their difference is under one second and insensitive to users.
