This paper presents an analytical and numerical investigation of an intense circularly polarized wave propagating along the static magnetic field parallel to oscillating magnetic field in magnetoactive plasma. In the relativistic regime such a magnetic field is created by pulse itself. The authors have studied different regimes of propagation with relativistic electron mass effect for magnetized plasma. An appropriate expression for dielectric tensor in relativistic magnetoactive plasma has been evaluated under paraxial theory. Two modes of propagation as extraordinary and ordinary exist; because of the relativistic effect, ultra-strong magnetic fields are generated which significantly influence the propagation of laser beam in plasma. The nature of propagation is characterized through the critical-divider curves in the normalized beam width with power plane For given values of normalized density (ωp/ω) and magnetic field (ωc/ω) the regions are namely steady divergence (SD), oscillatory divergence (OD) and self-focusing (SF). Numerical computations are performed for typical parameters of relativistic laser-plasma interaction: magnetic field B = 10-100 MG; intensity I = 1016 to 1020 W/cm2; laser frequency ω = 1.1 × 1015 s−1; cyclotron frequency ωc = 1.7 × 1013 s−1; electron density ne = 2.18 × 1020 cm−3. From the calculations, we confirm that a circularly polarized wave can propagate in different regimes for both the modes, and explicitly indicating enhancement in wave propagation, beam focusing/self-guiding and penetration of E-mode in presence of magnetic field.  相似文献

In this work, we present numerical computation of anomalous absorption of a powerful electromagnetic wave incident normally, on an isothermal plasma with a linear density gradient. We consider first, the “intensity” dependence of anomalous absorption treating two important cases: one that of a typical high temperature, high density fusion plasma occurring in a laser-pellet application and the other that of an ionospheric (F-layer) plasma. It is found that for low incident powers, reflection is almost constant, corresponding essentially, to classical electronion collisions. As we increase the incident power, however, we find that the reflection starts dropping and the absorption takes over. This result is interpreted in terms of the instability generated anomalous absorption of the incident wave. Next, we consider the “wavelength” dependence of anomalous absorption, wherein we observe that the effect of anomalous absorption is increasing for longer wavelengths of the incident laser radiation.  相似文献

Modulation instability of an intense right-hand elliptically polarized laser beam propagating through magnetized plasma is investigated by a new method. The nonlinear dispersion relation, in which the relativistic and ponderomotive nonlinearities are taken into account, is obtained for the laser radiation in magnetized plasma by the Lorentz transformation. The Karpman equation is firstly generalized to the case of three dimensions with three field components. When the nonlinear frequency shift of the electromagnetic field in plasma is involved, the nonlinear evolution equation for the slowly varying envelope of the laser field is obtained. Thus, modulation instability of the intense laser beam in magnetized plasma is studied and the temporal growth rate of the instability is derived. The analysis shows that the peak growth rate of self-modulation instability is increased due to the axial magnetization of plasma. It is also shown that the growth rate of modulation instability is increased significantly near the critical surface in a laser-plasma.  相似文献

It is shown that penetration of relativistically intense laser light into an overdense plasma, accessible by self-induced transparency, occurs over a finite length only. The penetration length depends crucially on the overdense plasma parameter and increases with increasing incident intensity after exceeding the threshold for self-induced transparency. The interaction of an intense circularly polarized laser pulse with a layer of plasma of supercritical density is studied. The nonlinear skin effect for the electromagnetic field and the coefficient of collisionless absorption of the laser pulse were calculated analytically. It is shown that, in the process of interaction with the plasma, the laser pulse generates solitons propagating through the plasma layer and transferring the radiation through the opaque medium. The coefficient of transparency of the plasma layer for the soliton-like penetration of the laser radiation was calculated. The plasma parameters at which the collisionless absorption is small as compared to the transformation of the laser energy into solitons were found.  相似文献

A method of measuring flow-birefringence is reported. In this method, a circularly polarized light wave is transmitted through the flow-birefringent medium. The transmitted elliptically polarized wave is compensated by a Babinet-Soleil plate to convert it back into a circularly polarized wave. The state of circular polarization is confirmed using the rotating-analyser method. Measurements can be carried out with a sample having a fixed azimuth. The minimum detectable optical retardation angle was 5 × 10-3 degree. This corresponds to a birefringence of Δn = 1 × 10-10, when the optical path length of the sample cell is 100 mm.  相似文献

We show both theoretically and experimentally that an electromagnetic wave can be totally absorbed by an overdense plasma when a subwavelength diffraction grating is placed in front of the plasma surface. The absorption is due to dissipation of surface plasma waves (plasmons polaritons) that have been resonantly excited by the evanescent component of the diffracted electromagnetic wave. The developed theoretical model allows one to determine the conditions for the total absorption.  相似文献

Protons with energies up to 18 MeV have been measured from high density laser-plasma interactions at incident laser intensities of 5x10(19) W/cm(2). Up to 10(12) protons with energies greater than 2 MeV were observed to propagate through a 125 &mgr;m thick aluminum target and measurements of their angular deflection were made. It is likely that the protons originate from the front surface of the target and are bent by large magnetic fields which exist in the target interior. To agree with our measurements these fields would be in excess of 30 MG and would be generated by the beam of fast electrons which is also observed.  相似文献

根据Whittaker标量势理论,建立了圆偏振光束的矢量传输模型.基于这一模型研究了圆偏振光束在左手材料中的反常旋转特性.通过分析光束偏振态、衍射对强度质心旋转特性的影响,发现圆偏振光束在左手材料中旋转方向反转并揭示其旋转角等于古伊相.采用分析横向能流的方法,揭示左手材料中反向的横向能流是导致反常旋转特性的主要原因.对圆偏振光束在左手材料中反常旋转特性的研究,有利于增强对左手材料中光束传输特性的认识. 关键词: 左手材料 圆偏振光束 旋转特性  相似文献

Conclusions In summary, we have studied the parametric instability of a cold electron plasma in a strong, circularly polarized electromagnetic wave, taking into account the relativistic nature of the electron motion. We have shown that an instability of longitudinal waves occurs at frequencies p/ and p/, while an instability of transverse waves occurs at frequencies 0±0 and 0±p/. The results of a numerical solution of the dispersion relation for large pump amplitudes, in which case the approximation of a weak coupling between waves is not applicable, show that the growth rates and the bands of the instabilities increase with increasing pump amplitude. We have found that in the case of the excitation of electromagnetic plasma waves, even at low pump amplitudes, the relativistic nature of the electron motion can be of decisive importance for the effect.T. We have established the dependences of the maximum Weibel instability growth rate and the corresponding wavenumber on the degree of anisotropy in the photoelectron distribution formed through tunnel atomic ionization in the field of a circularly polarized short laser pulse. We show how the relaxation of the initial distribution of photoelectrons due to their collisions with ions affects the pattern of generation of a quasi-static magnetic field.  相似文献

研究表明, 峰值强度为1022–1025 W/cm2量级的圆偏振激光脉冲的有质动力场可以直接加速并产生GeV–TeV的单能电子束, 其中被加速电子的能量与激光脉冲的峰值强度成线性定标关系. 为了获得更高能量的电子束, 通过对一维解析模型的分析得到: 如果电子束在激光传播的方向上具一个初始能量E0, 那么这种线性的定标关系可以被打破, 被加速电子束最终的能量可以被放大E0倍. 这是由于具有一定初始能量的电子束不容易被激光脉冲抛在后面, 进而获得更高的加速距离. 二维粒子模拟结果显示: 当电子束的初始能量E0为MeV量级时这个方法是有效的, 而当E0过大时这个方法失效. 这是因为当电子的加速距离远大于激光脉冲的瑞利长度时, 激光强度的衰减使得电子束的加速错过了最佳加速场.  相似文献
