A method has been developed for determining the polarization state of the retro-reflected beam from a corner cube irradiated with an input beam of arbitrary polarization state and of arbitrary tilt angle to the cube. Experimentally, the output beam consists of six distinct beamlets of different polarization states that are focused into six non-overlapping regions in the active area of the detector. The overall polarization state of the beam as measured by the photodetector can thus be represented by the incoherent superposition of the polarization states of the six beamlets. Experiments have been performed that verify the theory for a linearly polarized input beam irradiating the corner cube. 相似文献

The coupling of a Gaussian radiation beam to a corner reflector with a four-wavelength long wire antenna was studied theoretically and experimentally. The antenna configuration in conjunction with a Schottky barrier diode is recently used widely as a fast submillimeter wave detector. The optimum angle focusing the radiation to the antenna has been obtained and is 11° (half-width at the 8.7dB points). 相似文献

The propagation properties of decentered twisted Gaussian Schell-model (DTGSM) beams passing through a misaligned first-order optical system are studied. The explicit expressions for the cross-spectral density function and Wigner distribution function of the output beam are derived, which retain their form unchanged. It is shown that the DTGSM beams preserve their closed property. The second-order moments matrix and the Wigner distribution function evolve with the usual laws, whereas the first-order moments matrix varies, as if a ray passes through such system. The propagation of DTGSM beams through an aligned first-order optical system is treated as the limiting case that corresponds to the vanishing misalignment parameters. 相似文献

By using the extended Huygens-Fresnel diffraction integral and the method of expanding the aperture function into a finite sum of complex Gaussian functions, an approximate analytical formula of the double-distance propagation for Gaussian beam passing through a tilted cat-eye optical lens and going back along the entrance way in a turbulent atmosphere has been derived. Through numerical calculation, the effects of incidence angle, propagation distance, and structure constant on the propagation properties of a Gaussian beam in a turbulent atmosphere are studied. It is found that the incidence angle creates an unsymmetrical average intensity distribution pattern, while the propagation distance and the structure constant can each create a smooth and symmetrical average intensity distribution pattern. The average intensity peak gradually deviates from the centre, and the central average intensity value decreases quickly with the increase in incidence angle, while a larger structure constant can bring the average intensity peak back to the centre. 相似文献

The problem of maximizing the intensity that is transferred from a transmitter aperture to a receiver aperture is considered in which the propagation medium is random. Two optimization criteria are considered: maximal expected intensity transfer and minimal scintillation index. The beam that maximizes the expected intensity is shown to be fully coherent. Its coherent mode is determined as the principal eigenfunction for a kernel that is determined through the second-order moments of the propagation Green's function. The beam that minimizes the scintillation index is shown to be partially coherent in general, with its coherent modes determined by minimizing a quadratic form that has nonlinear dependence on the coherent-mode fields, and on the second- and fourth-order moments of the propagation Green's function. 相似文献

Based on the vectorial Rayleigh diffraction integral, the nonparaxial propagation of vectorial Gaussian beams diffracted at a circular aperture is studied. The far-field and paraxial cases are treated as special cases of our general result. The mean-square fluctuations of log-amplitude and phase are studied theoretically for Gaussian beams propagating through a light-focusing glass fibre having a Gaussian covariance of the refractive-index inhomogeneities. The study is based on a method of the Rytov approximation which has been mainly employed for an analysis of the beam fluctuations in an atmosphere. The results show that the mean-square fluctuations increase proportionally to the propagation distance for gz>1,g andz being the focusing coefficient of a fibre and the actual propagation distance, and also increase monotonically as the beam spot size becomes larger. It is also shown that the fluctuations increase significantly in the radial direction of the beam from the centre and that the on-axis fluctuations of log-amplitude and phase depend greatly on the beam spot size. 相似文献

In this paper the propagation of elegant Hermite-cosh-Gaussian, elegant Laguerre Gaussian, and Bessel Gaussian beams through a Kerr left-handed metamaterial(LHM) slab have been studied. A split-step Fourier method is used to investigate the propagation of laser beams through this media. Numerical simulation shows that Gaussian beams have different focusing behaviors in a Kerr LHM slab with positive or negative nonlinearity. Beam focusing happens in slabs with positive nonlinearity and not in slabs with negative nonlinearity; however, negative nonlinearity is required for a Kerr LHM slab to act like a lens. Additionally, the focusing properties of beams can be controlled by controlling the thickness of the slab or the input power of the incident beam. A multilayer structure is also proposed to have beam focusing by thinner slabs and passing longer distances. 相似文献

In this paper, the focal shift of hollow Gaussian beams (HGBs) passing through a thin lens is investigated in detail. An analytic expression of the location of the axial maximum intensity for the HGBs is derived. It is found that, both the relative focal shift and the relative location of the axial maximal intensity of the HGBs is strongly affected by the ratio α (where α=s/f, here s is the axial distance from the input plane to the lens plane and f is the focus length of the lens), and it is also greatly affected by the changes of both the effective Fresnel number Nw and the order n of HGBs. 相似文献
