We propose a return-to-zero on-off keying(RZ-OOK) to non-return-to-zero(NRZ) OOK conversion scheme based on a single custom-designed fiber Bragg grating(FBG). The custom-made FBG is designed and synthesized using discrete layer-peeling algorithm. It is shown that such a FBG can replace the combination of interferometer and the cascaded filter that are invariably employed together in the reported schemes for RZ-OOK to NRZ-OOK format conversion. Simulation results show that the input 20-Gb/s RZ-OOK signals with different duty cycles can be converted into NRZ-OOK signals with high Q-factor.  相似文献

We investigated 20 channels at 10 Gb/s wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission over 1190 km single mode fiber and dispersion compensating fiber using cascaded inline semiconductor optical amplifier at a span of 70 km for RZ-DPSK (return zero differential phase-shift keying) modulation format by using same channel spacing, i.e. 100 GHz. We show for RZ-OOK (return zero on-off keying) format a transmission distance of up to 1050 km with Q factor more than 15 dB, without any power drops. We developed the SOA model for inline amplifier having minimum cross-talks and ASE (amplified spontaneous emission) noise power with sufficient gain. At optimal bias current of 400 mA, a high constant gain of 36.5 dB is obtained up to a saturation power of 21.36 mW. So reduction of cross-talk and distortion is possible by decreasing the bias current at appropriate amplification factor.The DPSK modulation format has less cross-talk as compared to OOK format for nonlinearities and saturation case. The impact of optical power received and Q factor at different distance for both RZ-OOK and RZ-DPSK modulation format has been illustrated. We have shown the optical spectrum and clear Eye diagram at the transmission distance of 1190 km in RZ-DPSK system and 1050 km in RZ-OOK systems.The bit error rate (BER) for all channels observed is less than 10−10 up to gain saturation for both DPSK and OOK systems. Finally, we investigated that the transmission distance decreases with a decrease in channel spacing of up to 20 GHz.  相似文献

A scheme of format conversion from optical 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (16QAM) to quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) signal based on cascaded four-wave mixing (FWM) in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) is proposed. Theoretical analysis and simulations of the format conversion scheme are conducted to validate the feasibility of the proposal. In this proposal, the phase conjugated of 16QAM signal is generated after the first FWM process in an SOA, and then the QPSK signal is converted due to the second non-degenerate FWM (ND-FWM) process in another SOA. The performance and the optimal design of the 10 Gbit/s format conversion system under various key parameters of SOAs are evaluated and discussed. Simulation results present useful to enable interconnection between backbone network and access network.  相似文献

We report an ultrafast cross phase modulation (XPM) effect in intersubband transition (ISBT) of InGaAs/AlAs/AlAsSb coupled quantum wells, where the ISBT absorption of a transverse-magnetic mode pump signal induces phase modulation of a transverse-electric mode probe signal. Using waveguide-type ISBT devices, we have achieved XPM-based 10 Gbit/s wavelength conversion with a power penalty of 2.53 dB. Also, we propose XPM-based signal processing circuits for gate switching and modulation format conversion.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical format conversion from two independent non-return-to-zero on-off keying (NRZ-OOK) signals to a return-to-zero quadrature phase shift keying (RZ-QPSK) signal using two cascaded SOAs. Within each SOA, the cross phase modulation (XPM) process is properly controlled by an assistant light. After evaluating its effect on XPM, a suitable power range of assistant light is chosen for the NRZ-OOK to RZ-QPSK format conversion. In the experiment, a RZ-QPSK signal is successfully obtained with opened demodulation eye-diagrams.  相似文献

实验报道了利用半导体光放大器(SOA)的四波混频(FWM)效应实现多种码型的波长转换.其中对于非归零(NRZ)信号实现了从单信道到三信道的多波长转换.调制速率从10 Gb/s到40 Gb/s均实现多波长转换.对于归零(RZ)信号分别实现了20 Gb/s和40 Gb/s的RZ格式的波长转换和40 Gb/s的载波抑制归零(CSRZ)格式的波长转换,利用光纤布拉格光栅(FBG)作为带陷滤波器消除共轭光和抽运光之间的串扰.对于非归零差分相移键控(NRZ_DPSK)信号分别实现了20 Gb/s和40 Gb/s的波长转换,利用实验室自制的光纤延时干涉仪进行NRZ-DPSK信号的解调.基于FWM效应的转换光的输出消光比大于7 dB,转换后消光比退化约为3 dB.  相似文献

A novel technique for generating millimeter-wave signals through phase-to-intensity modulation conversion in chirped fiber gratings is proposed and demonstrated. Experimental results on generating a 28 G Hz signal using harmonics orders from 7th to 10th are provided. Excellent phase-noise performance (87 dBc Hz @ 10KHz) is demonstrated. It is also demonstrated that this technique may be efficiently used for harmonically upconverting intermediate frequency signals to the millimeter-wave band. Bit-error-rate measurements for different modulation format (QPSK MQAM) signals, which were upconverted employing the PM-IM conversion technique, show very good performance (< 10 - 9) and transparency to the modulation format.  相似文献

In this paper, the system scheme of on–off keying (OOK) to quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) format conversion is proposed, which is based on two gain-transparent semiconductor optical amplifiers (GT-SOA). GT-SOA is used as a simple all-optical phase modulator, which is no effects of cross gain modulation and four-wave mixing existing in conventional SOA. The assistant light is used to speed up the SOA carrier recovery time. The principles of OOK to QPSK format conversion are expounded. The influences of the assistant light power and signal light power on the conversions are numerically analyzed. The OOK signal can still be exactly converted to the QPSK signal with the power of OOK signal being changed within a certain range.  相似文献

We present a novel design for all-optical conversion from wavelength-hopping time-spreading to non-return-to-zero format using wavelength converters based on semiconductor optical amplifiers. The multi-pulse nature of the wavelength-hopping time-spreading signal is utilized to achieve efficient, high-performance format conversion without pulse replication. The operation is demonstrated with a power penalty of 1 dB. A novel, complete design for interfacing wavelength-hopping time-spreading networks to WDM networks is also presented.  相似文献

We propose a simple and efficient approach to obtain all-optical RZ-to-NRZ data format conversion using self-phase modulation (SPM) in a dispersion-shifted fiber. By exploiting SPM induced spectral broadening together with group velocity dispersion in the normal regime, a 10 Gb/s return-to-zero data signal has been converted to the non-return-to-zero format. The proposed scheme can work with different signal bit rates and does not require any external pulse duplicator. The 10 Gb/s bit-error-rate (BER) measurement shows a power penalty of less than 1.5 dB at 10−9 BER level.  相似文献

归零(RZ)码与非归零(NRZ)码是波分复用和时分复用系统中广泛采用的两种码型, 全光NRZ到RZ码型转换能完成从波分复用到时分复用的网络接口功能, 是未来透明光子网络中一项重要的全光信号处理技术. 提出并实验证实了一种基于色散平坦高非线性光子晶体光纤中四波混频效应的单到双NRZ到RZ码型转换方法, 将一束信号光与同步时钟脉冲同时输入色散平坦高非线性光子晶体光纤中, 通过四波混频过程, 产生两个携带该数据信息的闲频光, 从而实现了单到双的NRZ到RZ码型转换功能, 码型转换器工作波长在193 nm范围可调谐, 最大转换效率为-21 dB, 最优消光比和品质因子分别为11.9 dB和7.2. 该方法的特点在于基于光纤中的四波混频效应工作, 因而具有对调制格式和比特率透明的优点, 同时, 光子晶体光纤特有的高非线与色散平坦性, 既避免了使用传统光纤需要较长的长度, 又避免了波长设置不灵活的弊端, 并具备可进一步增加带宽的能力, 且在码型转换的同时, 实现了波长转换, 完成了双通道波长组播功能. 整个系统为全光纤设计, 结构简单, 性能可靠, 并易于与现有的光纤通信系统相容, 对促进超高速大容量光子网络的发展具有重要意义. 关键词: 码型转换 四波混频 光子晶体光纤  相似文献

提出并实验证实了利用色散平坦高非线性光子晶体光纤中双抽运四波混频效应实现非归零 (NRZ)到归零(RZ)码型转换的新方案, 将一束NRZ信号光与两束同步时钟脉冲光同时注入光子晶体光纤, 通过双抽运四波混频效应产生两个闲频光, 经过光学滤波后即可完成单到双全光NRZ-RZ码型转换. 与基于常规单抽运四波混频效应的码型转换方式相比, 本设计方案由于采用了双抽运四波混频效应, 因此具有双路组播信号波长可彼此独立选取的优点. 分析了码型转换器的波长调谐性及对输入光功率波动的容忍性, 得到转换信号的最优消光比和Q 因子分别为15 dB和5.4. 研究结果表明, 本方案既具有对比特率和调制格式透明的优点, 又避免了使用单抽运四波混频效应进行码型转换时两路组播信号波长相互制约的弊端, 且实现了全光波长转换和波长组播功能. 关键词: 码型转换 四波混频 双抽运 光子晶体光纤  相似文献

All-optical clock extraction from a 10-Gbit/s NRZ-DPSK input signal is demonstrated using modal interference in a two-mode fiber (TMF) and a mode-locked fiber ring laser. The TMF has a Mach-Zehnder configuration with two arms along the core and cladding regions. Using the difference in propagation delay between two arms, the non-return-to-zero differential phase shift keying (NRZ-DPSK) signal is converted to the return-to-zero on-off keying (RZ-OOK) signal. To obtain repetitive pulses as a clock signal from the RZ-OOK signal, a ring laser with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is used. Subsequently, the carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) of the RZ-OOK and clock signals are enhanced up to 30 dB and 40 dB, respectively, compared to that of the original NRZ-DPSK signal. Also, the clock signal centered at 10 GHz has a low timing jitter of <1.6 ps. It is expected that this method can be applied to high speed fiber-optic systems of >10 Gbit/s due to its small time delay between the core and cladding regions.  相似文献

An all-optical scheme for simultaneously realizing OR and AND logic gates based on three-input four-wave mixing (FWM) arising in a single semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is proposed and demonstrated. It has the ability to process not only conventional non-return-to-zero-ON-OFF-keying (NRZ-OOK) and return-to-zero-OOK (RZ-OOK) formats but also carrier-suppressed return-to-zero-OOK (CSRZ-OOK) format signals. Firstly, the performance of 40 Gb/s logic operation is numerically evaluated by a comprehensive dynamic SOA model considering three input signal induced FWM effect. Then, 10 Gb/s experimental demonstrations with clear waveforms and high extinction ratios (ERs) further verify the logic integrity of this scheme. Thus, the OR and AND logic gates simultaneously achieved within a single logic unit is compact and cost-effective for future optical signal processing applications.  相似文献

In view of the differential phase Q (DP-Q) and the traditional Q factor, we compared, using numerical simulations, the performances of the RZ-OOK and RZ-DPSK in dense OTDM-WDM systems. When signal pulse widths and optical filter bandwidths are optimized, there is no upper limit to the WDM channel bit rate (BR) in the purely linear back-to-back configuration. Here, RZ-DPSK performed increasingly better than RZ-OOK in a higher spectral density with Q gain increasing from 3 to 5 dB. In the nonlinear point-to-point configuration, a higher BR leads to increased performance penalties for both the RZ-DPSK and RZ-OOK, while the RZ-DPSK still outperforms RZ-OOK by up to 4 dB. The results obtained correlate with conventional results, indicating the potential of the DP-Q as a performance evaluation tool in numerical simulations.  相似文献

This paper comprehensively investigates the properties of self phase modulation based optical delay systems consisting of dispersion compensation fibre and highly nonlinear fibres.It researches into the impacts of power level launched into highly nonlinear fibres,conversion wavelength,dispersion slope,modulation format and optical filter bandwidth on the overall performance of optical delay systems.The results reveal that,if the power launched into highly nonlinear fibres is fixed,the time delay generally varies linearly with the conversion wavelength,but jumps intermittently at some conversion wavelengths.However,the time delay varies semi-periodically with the power launched into highly nonlinear fibres.The dispersion slope of highly nonlinear fibres has significant influence on the time delay,especially for the negative dispersion slope.The time delay differs with modulation formats due to the different combined interaction of nonlinearity and dispersion in fibres.The bandwidth of the optical filters also greatly affects the time delay because it determines the bandwidth of the passed signal in the self phase modulation based time delay systems.The output signal quality of the overall time delay systems depends on the conversion wavelength and input power level.The optimisation of the power level and conversion wavelength to provide the best output signal quality is made at the end of this paper.  相似文献

All-optical single-to-dual channel format conversion from NRZ to RZ at 10 Gbit/s using cross phase modulation (XPM) in dispersion flattened highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber (DF-HNL-PCF) is demonstrated. Format conversion with dual channels signal multicasting function is achieved by filtering simultaneously the blue- and red-chirped components of broadened optical spectrum induced by XPM between NRZ signal and clock light. Moreover, the wavelength tunability and dynamics characteristics of proposed format converter are also exploited experimentally by using NRZ signal light with different central wavelength and varying input power. Our results show that a wide wavelength operation range of 21.2 nm, extinction ratio (ER) and Q factor of over 10.9 dB and 6.1 are obtained. Furthermore, the influence of central wavelength offset of optical bandpass filter on converted RZ signal quality is investigated. The proposed scheme is simple, robust, and transparent to bit rate, which makes it very potential for application in future photonic networks.  相似文献

In this paper, NRZ format wavelength conversion using cross absorption modulation (XAM) in InGaAsP MQW electroabsorption modulator (EAM) is investigated experimentally in detail for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The influence of two key operating parameters, input signal power and bias voltage of EAM, on wavelength conversion performance is studied. Experimental results indicate that there exists optimal bias voltage for fixed input signal power and that there exists also optimal input signal power for fixed bias voltage and the lowest power penalty of 0.9 dB is obtained by optimizing these two parameters. The physical explanations are given for these results based on operating characteristic of EAM device. Finally, the probe light wavelength dependence of wavelength conversion is studied for span of 1530–1560 nm.  相似文献

We theoretically discuss 40 Gb/s semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)-based wavelength conversion (WC) using a detuning optical bandpass Jilter based on ultrafast dynamic characteristics of SOA. Both the inverted and noninverted WCs are obtained by shifting the filter central wavelength with respect to the probe wavelength when input data signal is in return-to-zero (RZ) format. However, we can obtain format conversion from nonreturn- to-zero (NRZ) to pseudo-return-to-zero (PRZ) and inverted WC when the input signal is in NRZ format.  相似文献

This paper proposes a dynamic routing, modulation level and spectrum allocation (RMLSA) scheme in the flexible optical wavelength-division multiplexing (FWDM) networks with modulation format conversion ability. The scheme considers the modulation format conversion at the intermediate nodes and addresses the fragmentation problem by avoiding appearance of them. The influence of routing to the emergence of the fragmentation is quantified, which is referenced to decide which one route of k-paths to use. Simulation results demonstrate efficient reductions in blocking rates and improvements in failure recovery rates for the scheme in the network.  相似文献
