The silver colloidal solutions were prepared by in situ synthesis technique in the presence of the Polymethyl Methacrylate, which was polymerized by reversible addition-fragmentation transfer. The UV–VIS spectra and transmission electron microscopy had shown the formation of sphere silver nanoparticles with average size of 10 nm. Nonlinear optical properties as a function of silver concentration were studied using Z-scan technique with 13 ns pulse duration at 532 nm. The optical nonlinearity enhancement was observed by increasing the concentration. The third-order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) was measured to 1.045 × 10−11 esu when the concentration was 2.13 mg/ml. Besides, the sample was founded to exhibit a shift from saturable absorption to reverse saturable absorption at higher incident laser energy. The reverse saturable absorption was observed to be responsible for the optical limiting characteristics in our experiments.  相似文献

We report optical and nonlinear optical properties of CuS quantum dots and nanoparticles prepared through a nontoxic, green, one-pot synthesis method. The presence of surface states and defects in the quantum dots are evident from the luminescent behavior and enhanced nonlinear optical properties measured using the open aperture Z-scan, employing 5 ns laser pulses at 532 nm. The quantum dots exhibit large effective third order nonlinear optical coefficients with a relatively lower optical limiting threshold of 2.3 J cm−2, and the optical nonlinearity arises largely from absorption saturation and excited state absorption. Results suggest that these materials are potential candidates for designing efficient optical limiters with applications in laser safety devices.  相似文献

Stable gold nanoparticles have been prepared by using soluble starch as both the reducing and stabilizing agents; this reaction was carried out at 40 °C for 5 h. The obtained gold nanoparticles were characterized by UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and z-scan technique. The size of these nanoparticles was found to be in the range of 12–22 nm as analyzed using transmission electron micrographs. The optical properties of gold nanoparticles have been measured showing the surface plasmon resonance. The second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were investigated by using a continuous-wave (CW) He–Ne laser beam with a wavelength of 632.8 nm at three different incident intensities by means of single beam techniques. The nonlinear refractive indices of gold nanoparticles were obtained from close aperture z-scan in order of 10?7 cm2/W. Then, they were compared with diffraction patterns observed in far-field. The nonlinear absorption of these nanoparticles was obtained from open aperture z-scan technique. The values of nonlinear absorption coefficient are obtained in order of 10?1 cm/W.  相似文献

Structural modification of carbon nanotubes in combination with metallic nanoparticles is reported. An enhancement in the nonlinear optical refraction of multi-wall carbon nanotubes by the incorporation of platinum nanoparticles was observed. Comparative results were analyzed taking into account the participation of single-wall carbon nanotubes that originate a decrease in the nonlinear optical response of the multi-wall carbon nanotubes integrating a thin film. A Nd:YAG laser system featuring 532 nm wavelength with 4 ns pulse duration in a two-wave mixing experiment was employed for exploring the studied optical nonlinearities of the samples. The contribution of optical processes to mechanical characteristics dependent on high optical irradiance in carbon nanotubes was described. A variation in the mass density associated to the optically irradiated tubes allowed us to calculate the change in Young's modulus in a thin film configuration. The estimation of an opto-mechanical phenomenon was based on the evaluation of the nonlinearity of index responsible for the optical Kerr effect. According to Raman and optical evaluations, the inclusion of metallic nanoparticles in carbon structures results in a modification of surface that also gives origin to noticeable optical Kerr nonlinearities. Potential applications for developing laser-induced controlled opto-mechanical nanohybrid systems can be contemplated.  相似文献

This study presents a two-step synthesis of nanoparticles and the stabilization process of Ag ions in the matrix of NaCl nanocrystals. Ag+ ions are incorporated to NaCl with a new and attractive method that can be easily used for the different types of alkaline halides. The nanoparticles with predominant size found between 10 and 15 nm were stabilized on the surface and/or interior of NaCl nanocrystals using, in the first stages, the ionic-exchange property of zeolite A4. The optical properties of the materials were characterized through optical absorption, leading to well defined absorption bands located in the wave length values between 217–275 nm and 350–770 nm approximately, for Ag+ and AgNp, respectively. The antibacterial property of Ag ions and nanoparticles stabilized in NaCl was analyzed against gram-negative Escherichia Coli and Klebsiella bacteria. In order to quantify the antibacterial effect of Ag ions and nanoparticles the inhibition ratio was used as a parameter on the bacteria colonies grown in culture medium by conventional methods. Ag+ ions that were stabilized in NaCl nanocrystals show a mayor inhibition ratio in contact with Klebsiella bacteria, conversely Ag nanoparticles showed better results in contact with E. coli.  相似文献

We have investigated the nonlinear response of the silver nanoparticle samples in a low-power regime of electromagnetic field based on nonlocal thermo-optic models. In this work, the experimental investigation of the thermo-optic nonlinear response of Ag colloids containing different size of silver nanoparticles is reported. The colloidal nanoparticle samples were synthesized by nanosecond pulsed laser ablation of Ag bulk in acetone. The sample containing Ag was characterized by linear absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Using the z-scan technique, the behavior of thermal nonlinear refractive index of colloid was studied at different concentrations of silver nanoparticles. Observation of asymmetrical configurations of the z-scan data indicates that nonlinear refraction occurring in the Ag samples is related to the thermo-optical process. The optical limiting here is due to nonlinear refraction of the samples arising from thermal lens formation under low-power CW excitation. When the laser power is low, the self-defocusing effect is mainly dominated by surface plasmon resonance effect. Results show that with increasing concentration of nanoparticles in acetone, the nonlinear refractive index increases while the threshold power of optical limiting decreases.  相似文献

This paper aims to study fabrication and characterization of silver/titanium oxide composite nanoparticle through sonochemical process in the presence of ethylene glycol with alkaline solution. By using ultrasonic irradiation of a mixture of silver nitrate, the dispersed TiO2 nanoparticle in ethylene glycol associated with aqueous solution of sodium oxide yields Ag/TiO2 composite nanoparticle with shell/core-type geometry. The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) of the Ag/TiO2 composites showed additional diffraction peaks corresponding to the face-centered cubic (fcc) structure of silver crystallization phase, apart from the signals from the cores of TiO2. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of Ag/TiO2 composites, which average particle size is roughly 80 nm, reveal that the titanium oxide coated by Ag nanoparticle with a grain size of about 2–5 nm. Additionally, the formation of silver nanoparticles on TiO2 was monitored by ultraviolet visible light spectrophotometer (UV–Vis). As measured the optical absorption spectra of as-synthesized Ag nanoparticle varying with time, the mechanism of surface formatting silver shell on the cores of TiO2 could be explored by autocatalytic reaction; the conversion of Ag particle from silver ion is 98% for the reaction time of 1000 s; and the activity energy of synthesizing Ag nanoparticles on TiO2 is 40 kJ/mol at temperature ranging from 5 to 25 °C. Hopefully, this preliminary investigation could be used for mass production of composite nanoparticles assisted by ultrasonic chemistry in the future.  相似文献

Self-organized nanoripples are induced on bulk metal Cu and Ag by femtosecond laser, and the influence of number of shots on nanostructure formation has been investigated. The AFM images show that obtained grooves on Cu are about 50 nm deep, and have an average spacing of 481.41 nm, which is smaller compared to the incident radiation wavelength (800 nm). Arrays of ablated craters are machined on Cu and Ag surfaces by femtosecond laser in order to determine the optical characteristics of laser irradiated surface. Compared with that of untreated sample, the locations of maximum absorption wavelength of laser treated samples are not shifted, while average absorbance intensities are enhanced both for modified Ag and Cu surfaces. Finally, the effects of thermal conductivity, dielectric function as well as electron–phonon coupling coefficient on nanograting morphology induced by femtosecond laser are discussed qualitatively.  相似文献

Silver nanoparticles (NPs) were photogenerated in situ in crosslinked poly(ester-co-styrene) resins (self-standing films and monoliths) by irradiating the samples with UV light. Addition of the silver salt solution did not interfere in the resin curing process and silver reduction was not detected during sample crosslinking. The samples were characterized by absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The initially broad and asymmetric surface plasmon resonance band was narrowed and blue-shifted as the exposure time to UV light was increased. Samples illuminated up to 120 min have an average particle size near 9.0 nm; a decrease to ∼5.0 nm was observed for longer exposure times up to 790 min. The asymmetric surface plasmon resonance band was due to particle aggregation; higher irradiation times led to a uniform particle distribution within the polymer matrix.  相似文献

The third-order nonlinear optical properties of polyurethane-urea/multiwalled carbon nanotube composites (PU/MWNT) films with different MWNT concentrations are investigated by the use of the Z-scan technique at a wavelength of 532 nm with a pulse duration of 8 ns. The results reveal that the nonlinear refraction and absorption coefficients are linearly dependent on the MWNT concentration. The negative nonlinear refraction effect is validated from the closed-aperture Z-scan measurements. We find that PU/MWNT films are promising nonlinear optical materials, and the nonlinear coefficients can be controlled.  相似文献

We expand the degenerate PO pump-probe technique to nondegenerate field and use it to investigate optical nonlinear dynamics in ZnS single crystal. Excited by 532-nm laser pulses with 21-ps duration, the temporal response of nondegenerate nonlinear absorption and nondegenerate nonlinear refraction are probed by laser pulses from optical parameter generation (OPG) at 600 and 680 nm with pulse width of 10 ps. Based on the theory of free-carrier optical nonlinearity, we study the pure free-carrier refraction in ZnS. By numerically fitting based on the nondegenerate pump-probe theory, the nondegenerate two-photon absorption coefficient, the free-carrier lifetime, the free-carrier absorptive cross section and refractive coefficient at both probe wavelengths are determined respectively. The dispersion of the free-carrier refractive coefficients is discussed.  相似文献

In this article, we represent a versatile and effective technique which using non-toxic chemicals to prepare stable aqueous dispersions of silver nanoparticles (NPs) via modified Tollens process. It was shown that as-prepared silver colloids consisted of finely-dispersed NPs with average diameter about 10 nm and a relatively narrow size distribution. Moreover, they could be stored very stable after several months without observation of aggregates or sedimentation. In comparison with previous works where Tollens process was being used, we for the first time applied UV-irradiation simultaneously with glucose reduction of silver salt through NPs preparation. The colloidal solutions of silver NPs were found to exhibit a high antibacterial activity against gram-negative Escherichia coli. The concentration of silver leading to a complete inhibition of bacteria growth was revealed as low as at 1.0 μg ml−1 and found much lower compared to earlier reports. These advantages of aqueous dispersions of silver NPs make them ideal for green industrial, medicinal, microbiological and other applications.  相似文献

Silver nanowires of 50–190 nm in diameters along with silver nanoparticles in the size range of 60–200 nm in prismatic and hexagonal shapes are synthesized through chemical process. The lengths of the silver nanowires lie between 40 and 1000 μm. The characterizations of the synthesized samples are done by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV–visible absorption spectroscopy. The syntheses have been done by using two processes. In the first process, relatively thicker and longer silver nanowires are synthesized by a soft template liquid phase method at a reaction temperature of 70 °C with methanol as solvent. In the second process, thinner silver nanowires along with silver nanoparticles are prepared through a polymer mediated polyol process at a reaction temperature of 210 °C with ethylene glycol as solvent. The variations of photoluminescence (PL) emission from the silver nanocluster dispersed in methanol as well as in ethylene glycol are recorded at room temperature under excitation wavelengths lying in between 300 and 414 nm. The blue–green PL emission is observed from the prepared samples and these emissions are assigned to radiative recombination of Fermi level electrons and sp- or d-band holes.  相似文献

Prototype devices based on black silicon have been fabricated by microstructuring 250 μm thick multicrystalline n doped silicon wafers using femtosecond pulsed laser in ambient gas of SF6 to measure its photovoltaic properties. The enhanced optical absorption of black silicon extends across the visible region and all the black silicons prepared in this work exhibit enhanced optical absorption close to 90% from 300 nm to 800 nm. The highest open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current (Isc) under the illumination of He–Ne continuous laser at 632.8 nm were measured to be 53.3 mV and 0.11 mA, respectively at a maximum power conversion efficiency of 1.44%. Upon excitation with He–Ne continuous laser at 632.8 nm, external quantum efficiency (EQE) of black silicon as high as 112.9% has also been observed. Development of black silicon for photovoltaic purposes could open up a new perspective in achieving high efficient silicon-based solar cell by means of the enhanced optical absorption in the visible region. The current–voltage characteristic and photo responsivity of these prototype devices fabricated with microstructured silicon were also investigated.  相似文献

Silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by laser ablation in water with an aim to enhance the luminescence of rare earth coordinated complex in polymer host. A fixed concentration of the complex containing Samarium (Sm), Salicylic acid (Sal) and 1, 10-phenanthroline (Phen) were combined with different concentrations of silver NPs in PolyVinyl Alcohol at room temperature. Absorption spectrum and XRD patterns of the sample show that the Sm(Sal)3Phen complex is accompanied by Ag NPs. The luminescence from the complex was recorded in the presence and absence of Ag NPs using two different excitation wavelengths viz. 400 and 355 nm. Of these, 400 nm radiation falls in the surface plasmon resonance of Ag NPs. It was found that the Ag NPs led to a significant enhancement in luminescence of the complex. Surprisingly, a high concentration of Ag NPs tends to quench the luminescence.  相似文献

Glasses containing silver, tin and europium were prepared by the melt-quenching technique with silver nanoparticles (NPs) being embedded upon heat treatment (HT). An intensification of Eu3+ ions emission was observed for non-resonant excitation around 270 nm, corresponding to UV absorption in the material. Optical measurements suggest that light absorption occurs at single Ag+ ions and/or twofold-coordinated Sn centers followed by energy transfer to europium which results in populating the 5D0 emitting state in Eu3+. After HT at 843 K, a quenching effect is observed on Eu3+ luminescence with increasing holding time in the 350–550 nm excitation range. The quenching effect shows with the presence of Ag NPs which may provide multipole radiationless pathways for excitation energy loss in europium ions.  相似文献

The nonlinear optical properties of Sudan I were investigated by a single beam Z-scan technique. The Sudan I ethanol solution exhibited large nonlinear refractive indices under both CW and pulse laser excitations. The nonlinear refractive indices of Sudan I were in the order of ?10?8 cm2/W under CW 633 nm excitation and ?10?6 cm2/W under CW 488 nm excitation, respectively. Under the excitation of a pulse 532 nm laser, the nonlinear refractive index n2 was calculated to be 1.19 × 10?14 cm2/W. It was discussed that the mechanism accounting for the process of nonlinear refraction was attributed to the laser heating for the CW laser excitation and the electronic effect for the pulse excitation. Moreover, the second hyperpolarizability of Sudan I was also estimated in this paper.  相似文献

The nonlinear optical properties of a series of azobenzene liquid-crystalline materials, which have different side-chain lengths in their molecular structure from one to another, were investigated using Z-scan method under picosecond pulse laser at 532 nm, 1064 nm and CW 488 nm excitation. The mechanism accounting for the process of nonlinear refraction was discussed under different laser excitations. The polymer films possess very large nonlinear refraction at all the three different laser excitations. Especially, the nonlinear refractive index becomes larger as the length of side-chain, where azobenzene group is contained, increases under pulse excitation at 1064 nm.  相似文献

We have proved on the basis of the experimental optical reflection and transmission spectra of the nanocomposite film of poly(methyl methacrylate) with silver nanoparticles that (PMMA + Ag) nanocomposite films have quasi-zero refractive indices in the optical wavelength range. We show that to achieve quasi-zero values of the complex index of refraction of composite materials is necessary to achieve high-negative effective refractive index in the system of spherical silver nanoparticles.  相似文献

Undoped and Erbium (Er) doped zinc oxide (EZO) thin films were deposited on glass substrate by sol–gel method using spin coating technique with different doping concentration. EZO films were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), UV–VIS-NIR transmission and single beam z scan method under illumination of frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser. The deposited films were found to be well crystallized with hexagonal wurtzite structure having a preferential growth orientation along the ZnO (002) plane. A blue-shift was observed in the band gap of EZO films with increasing Er concentration. All the films exhibited a negative value of nonlinear refractive index (n2) at 532 nm which is attributed to the two photon absorption and weak free carrier absorption. Third order nonlinear optical susceptibility, χ(3) values of EZO films were observed in the remarkable range of 10? 6 esu. EZO (0.4 at.%) sample was found to be the best optical limiter with limiting threshold of 1.95 KJ/cm2.  相似文献
