We developed a new full off-axis red-green-blue (RGB) digital holographic microscope with an LED illumination. A decisive advantage of the use of LED illumination is a large image quality improvement due to its partially coherent nature. The off-axis configuration enables the fast recording of the holographic data in each spectral channel. The digital holographic refocusing and the optical phase map computation are successfully demonstrated. The multiwavelength operation provides a significant improvement of the collected information for colored samples.  相似文献

We demonstrate an improvement in efficiency of GaAs solar cells using front surface texturing with dielectric 1D and 2D nanopatterns obtained by a low cost laser interference lithography technique. The strong light scattering by the surface dielectric nanopatterns effectively increases the optical path of the incident light in the absorber layers resulting in an efficiency increase up to 23.5% compared to that of the reference solar cell. The observed efficiency improvement in the studied solar cells shows the potential use of low cost photoresist as an antireflection coating material and further application of other robust dielectric materials as texturing layer.  相似文献

We analyze the effect of realistic noise sources for an atomic clock consisting of a local oscillator that is actively locked to a spin-squeezed (entangled) ensemble of N atoms. We show that the use of entangled states can lead to an improvement of the long-term stability of the clock when the measurement is limited by decoherence associated with instability of the local oscillator combined with fluctuations in the atomic ensemble's Bloch vector. Atomic states with a moderate degree of entanglement yield the maximal clock stability, resulting in an improvement that scales as N(1/6) compared to the atomic shot noise level.  相似文献

This work demonstrates that a significant improvement of the timing resolution, simultaneously keeping coincidence count rate high enough, can be achieved by use of the state-of-the-art ultra fast 8-bit digitizers which replace the traditional analog timing modules. Performance of the digital spectrometer in conditions of a routine measurement is compared with that of the same detectors connected to the analog setup. It was found that employment of the digital setup leads to an improvement of timing resolution from 169 ps for the traditional analog setup down to 146 ps for the digital setup.  相似文献

In this paper, the authors present and extend on an existing model, which has been developed to determine the radiative recombination lifetimes in quantum well solar cells. Given the fact that recombination reduces cell performance, the main future use of this new model is to aid in optimisation of cell designs and increase cell efficiency. In this work the authors introduce a coefficient defined as the delta factor which is based on material parameters into the existing model. The introduction of this factor into the existing model has shown an improvement in radiative recombination lifetime determination of approximately 11% when comparison is made with the previous model. This has lead to an overall average improvement in lifetime determination of approximately 9% when comparisons are made between the new model and experimental data. This is a significant improvement in lifetime determination, which will benefit cell designers.  相似文献

The performance of tunable buffers based on optical amplifiers and its improvement by use of gain flattening are analyzed. A simple analytical expression is obtained indicating that the gain required to attain tunable storage of N bits increases nonlinearly with N and reaches unrealistically high values for N>5. A relatively new management strategy for the treatment of voice disorders is the use of laryngeal (LB) and velopharyngeal biofeedback (VB). The main purpose of the present pilot study is to document the outcome of vocal and velopharyngeal performances after a well-defined LB and VB treatment. Four subjects were studied pretreatment (1 week before LB or VB treatment) and posttreatment (1 week after the LB or VB treatment). To measure and compare the effect of LB and VB, objective and subjective assessment techniques were used. Perceptual voice assessment included a perceptual rating of the voice using the GRBAS scale. Furthermore, the vocal quality in this population is modeled by means of the Dysphonia Severity Index. For the objective assessment of nasal resonance, the Nasometer and the Glatzel test were used. A perceptual evaluation of speech, the Gutzmann test, and the tests from Bzoch were used as subjective assessment techniques. Both patients selected for LB and VB treatment showed improvement of their performances. The resulting improvement, as measured by means of an objective approach, is in agreement with the perceived (auditory) improvement of voice and resonance. The use of LB and VB treatment in patients, especially in some subjects who are not responding to traditional voice or velopharyngeal therapy, must be encouraged.  相似文献

The potential of ultrasound as a process intensification technique in the extraction of lead from a landfilled metallurgical residues is explored. The silent or non-sonicated process makes use of acidic sodium chloride as the leachate with lead leaching in the range of 45% if a three-stage process is followed. The mixture was sonicated in a batch setup manufactured in-house. The yield obtained in silent conditions at the end of 240 min was already obtained within 30 min with ultrasound, which by itself was an improvement of 8 times. The yield of the process as a whole was improved by 19–26%. The reason for this improvement was investigated with respect to the reaction kinetics. The physical effect of ultrasound on the particle size was also studied by laser diffraction analysis. Finally, the improvement when using ultrasound in a multi-stage process was studied and it was shown that yields being obtained at the end of the 3rd stage in silent conditions is already obtained in the second stage when using ultrasound with 20% more selectivity.  相似文献

Optical phase conjugation (OPC) and distributed Raman amplifier (DRA) combination (OPC-DRA) is demonstrated as a potential enabling solution for simultaneous reduction of fiber non-linearities and dispersion compensation of a sub-carrier multiplexed (SCM) optical transmission link. The present work is focused on the use of OPC-DRA combination for system performance improvement in terms of composite second order distortion (CSO) and carrier to noise ratio (CNR) of the SCM link. The analysis further shows that, introduction of DRA with proper pumping scheme significantly reduce fiber non-linearity resulting in improvement of the system performance in terms of CNR, compared to the situation where only mid-way optical phase conjugation is used.  相似文献

The use of a Pump-Suppressed Four Wave Mixing PS-FWM wavelength converter in a wavelength conversion and selection switching scheme is examined and demonstrated. The scheme requires a single 2 × 1 Mach Zenhder Interferometer (MZI) and offers substantial pump suppression and efficiency improvement in terms of optical signal-to-noise ratio. Performance measurements on the combination of PS-FWM wavelength converter with an Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG) for passive routing, shows the potentially successful use of the scheme in an ultra-fast wavelength routed optical packet switching scheme where the use of optical filters for the separation of the converted signal from the pump is avoided.  相似文献

The improvement in amplitude modulation (AM) detection thresholds with increasing level of a sinusoidal carrier has been attributed to listening on the high-frequency side of the excitation pattern, where the growth of excitation is more linear, or to an increase in the number of "channels" via spread of excitation. In the present study, AM detection thresholds were measured using a 1000-Hz sinusoidal carrier. Thresholds for modulation frequencies of 4-64 Hz improved by about 10-20 dB as the carrier level increased from 10 dB SL (14.5 dB SPL on average) to 80 dB SPL. To minimize the use of spread of excitation with an 80-dB carrier, tonal "restrictors" with frequencies of 501, 801, 1210, and 1510 Hz were used alone and in combination. High-frequency restrictors elevated AM detection thresholds, whereas low-frequency restrictors did not, indicating that excitation on the high side is more important for detecting AM. Results of modeling suggest that the improvement in AM detection thresholds at high levels is likely due to the use of a relatively linear growth of response on the high-frequency side of the excitation pattern.  相似文献

Hermitian elements are used in a finite element solution for the eigenvalue problem in lined ducts with flow. These elements give significantly greater accuracy for reduced dimensionality when compared with Lagrangian elements. Spurious mode generation associated with the Lagrangian formulation is eliminated. A dramatic improvement in the ratio of the number of reliable eigenvalues to the total number of computed eigenvalues is effected by the use of a condensation scheme based on the no-flow eigenvectors. Results are presented for two dimensional and axisymmetric ducts. In the axisymmetric case good resolution is obtained even for high order, high frequency modes by the use of continuously graded meshes.  相似文献

We report a design for a power-scalable all-fiber passively Q-switched laser that uses a large mode area Yb-doped fiber as a gain medium adiabatically tapered to an unpumped single-mode Yb-doped fiber, which serves as a saturable absorber. Through the use of a comprehensive numerical simulator, we demonstrate a passively Q-switched 1030 nm pulsed laser with 14 ns pulse duration and 0.5 mJ pulse energy operating at 200 kHz repetition rate. The proposed configuration has a potential for orders of magnitude of improvement in both the pulse energies and durations compared to the previously reported result. The key mechanism for this improvement relates to the ratio of the core areas between the pumped inverted large mode area gain fiber and the unpumped doped single-mode fiber.  相似文献
