<Emphasis Type="Italic">peri</Emphasis>-Amino ketones of the acenaphthene and acenaphthylene series

peri-Amino-substituted methyl and aryl ketones of the acenaphthene and acenaphthylene series were subjected to protonation and acylation at the nitrogen atom, dehydrogenation, and reactions with aldehydes. Conformations of substituents in the peri positions and probability for their participation in intra- and intermolecular transformations were determined on the basis of spectral data and quantum-chemical calculations.     

Synthesis of 5-alkyl-4-polyfluoroacylpyrrole-2,3(1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-diones

Double hexagonal chains with minimal total <Emphasis Type="Italic">π</Emphasis>-electron energy

The total energy of all π-electrons in a conjugated hydrocarbon (within the framework of HMO approximation) is the sum of the absolute value of all the eigenvalues of its corresponding graph. In this paper, we consider “double hexagonal chains” as benzenoids constructed by successive fusions of successive naphthalenes along a zig–zag sequence of triples of edges as appear on opposite sides of each naphthalene unit. It is shown that if the fusions are such as to give a polyaceacene then the total π-electron energy is the minimum from among all the double hexagonal chains with the same number of naphthalene units.      

Flavonoids of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Scutellaria immaculata</Emphasis> Roots

(±)-5,2′-Dihydroxy-6,7,6′-trimethoxyflavanone, (-)-5,2′-dihydroxy-6,7,8,6′-tetramethoxyflavanone, chrysin, wogonin, apigenin, isoscutellarein, scutellarein, cosmosiin, and the new flavonoid wogonin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, the structure of which was established using chemical transformations and spectral data, were isolated from Scutellaria immaculata roots.__________Translated from Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 1, pp. 26–28, January–February, 2005.     

Building up of a <Emphasis Type="Italic">peri</Emphasis>-Hydroxynaphthoyl Fragment on the Core of 2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-Naphtho[1,8<Emphasis Type="Italic">-bc</Emphasis>] furan

The reaction of 2-aryl-5-acetoxy-4,8-di-tert-butyl-2H-naphtho[1,8-bc]furan with dichloromethyl ethyl ether in the presence of aluminum chloride gave rise to 6-formyl derivatives of the title heterocyclic system, and at the use of aliphatic acids anhydrides in the presence of perchloric acid 6-acyl derivatives were obtained. Carboxylic Acids from <Emphasis Type="Italic">Phyllanthus urinaria</Emphasis>

Five compounds, terephthalic acid mono-[2-(4-carboxy-phenoxycarbonyl)-vinyl] ester (1), (E)-3-(5′-hydroperoxy-2,2′-dihydroxy[1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl)-2-propenoic acid (2), 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid (3), succinic acid (or butanedioic acid) (4), and 2,3,4,5,6-pentahydroxybenzoic acid (5), were isolated from Phyllanthus urinaria. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by means of spectral techniques including IR, MS, and 1D/2D NMR. 1 and 2 are new compounds.__________Published in Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 1, pp. 14–17, January–February, 2005.     

Components of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Artemisia pontica</Emphasis>

Chemical components from the aerial part of the Kazakhstan population of Artemisia pontica, from which the rarely encountered flavonoids 7-O-methyl- and 4′,7-di-O-methyl-esters of apigenin were isolated for the first time, were identified. Ionic Liquid Promoted One-Pot Synthesis of Furo[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]pyrimidine-2,4(1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>,3<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-diones

Summary. The three-component condensation of aldehyde, N,N′-dimethylbarbituric acid and alkyl or aryl isocyanide afforded the corresponding furo[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-diones in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide as an ionic liquid in high yields at room temperature within several minutes.     

Synthesis and Stereochemistry of 1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>,5<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-Naphtho[1,8-<Emphasis Type="Italic">ef</Emphasis>][1,3]dithiocine 2-Oxides

3-Substituted 1H,5H-naphtho[1,8-ef][1,3]dithiocines (R = H, Me, Ph, t-Bu) were oxidized with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid to the corresponding 2-oxides having trans configuration (R ≠ H). According to the ¹H and ¹³C NMR data (including NOESY experiments), the disubstituted compounds at room temperature exist in a boat conformation with equatorial orientation of the substituent on C³ and oxygen atom on S². Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Salvia macilenta</Emphasis> from Iran

The hydrodistilled essential oil composition from the aerial parts of Salvia macilenta (Lamiaceae) from Iran was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The oil analysis confirmed the characterization of thirty-one compounds, accounting for 99.4% of the total oil. Analysis of the oil showed that the oil of S. macilenta was rich in monoterpene hydrocarbons with a-pinene (60%) as the main component followed by γ-elemene (6.1%), thymol (5.2%), elemol (4.7%), and β-caryophyllene (4.1%).__________Published in Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 2, pp. 136–137, March–April, 2005.

Synthesis of new <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-aminoglycosides based on halo-substituted <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-phenylenediamines and <Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis>-aminophenols

Condensation of the monosaccharides D-glucose and D-galactose with synthesized halo-substituted p-phenylenediamines and 4-amino-2,6-dibromophenol was studied. It was found that glycosylation occurred only at the 4-amino group that was sterically unhindered by the halogen atom. The position of the aglycon in the glycoside was established by PMR spectroscopy.     

Synthesis of isomeric 2-oxazolidinones from (1<Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>,2<Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>)-and (1<Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>,2<Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediols

A synthesis is reported for (4R,5R)-and (4S,5S)-4-hydroxymethyl-5-(4-nitrophenyl)oxazolidin-2-ones and (1′R,4R)-and (1′S,4S)-4-[hydroxy(4-nitrophenyl)methyl]oxazolidin-2-ones from (1R,2R)-and (1S,2S)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediols. Chemical Components of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Leptopus chinensis</Emphasis>

Six substances were isolated from the branches and leaves of the Chinese herb Leptopus Chinensis (Bunge) Pojark. by column chromatography for the first time. Their structures were elucidated as 3α-hydroxyfriedelan-2-one, saccharose, triacontanol, friedelane-2α,3β-diols, β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucoside, and β -sitosterol on the basis of x-ray, chemical, and spectroscopic methods. __________ Published in Kimiya Prirodnikh Soedinenii, No. 5, pp. 462–464, September–October, 2005.     

Synthesis of pyrido[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]pyrimidin-7(8<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-one derivatives from 5-acetyl-4-aminopyrimidines and β-dicarbonyl compounds

Heating of 5-acetyl-4-aminopyrimidine derivatives with ethyl acetoacetate, ethyl benzoylacetate, and diethyl acetone-1, 3-dicarboxylate in the absence of a base gave the corresponding 6-acylpyrido[2, 3-d]pyrimidin-7(8H)-ones. Under analogous conditions, the reaction with ethyl malonate afforded ethyl 7-oxo-7, 8-dihydropyrido[2, 3-d]pyrimidine-6-carboxylates. The pyridone (rather than hydroxypyridine) structures of the pyridopyrimidines obtained were confirmed by IR spectroscopy.__________Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk.
