We consider a two-dimensional convection model augmented with the rotational Coriolis forcing, centrifugal forcing as well as the quadratic potential with a fixed Ω > 0 being the rotational frequency. This model arises in the semiclassical limit of the GrossPitaevskii equation for Bose–Einstein condensates in a rotational frame. We investigate whether the action of dispersive rotational forcing complemented with the underlying potential prevents the generic finite time breakdown of the free nonlinear convection. We show that the rotating equations admit global smooth solutions for and only for a subset of generic initial configurations. Thus, the global regularity depends on whether the initial configuration crosses an intrinsic critical threshold, which is quantified in terms of the initial spectral gap associated with the 2 × 2 initial velocity gradient, λ 2 (0) − λ 1 (0), λ j (0)=λ j (∇ x U0) as well as the initial divergence, divx (U0). We also prove that for the case of isotropic trapping potential the smooth velocity field is periodic if and only if the ratio of the rotational frequency and the potential frequency is a rational number. The critical thresholds are also established for the case of repulsive potential. Finally the position density and the velocity field are explicitly recorded along the deformed flow map. We consider the fast diffusion equation (FDE) u t = Δu m (0 < m < 1) on a nonparabolic Riemannian manifold M. Existence of weak solutions holds. Then we show that the validity of Euclidean–type Sobolev inequalities implies that certain L p L q smoothing effects of the type ∥u(t)∥ q Ct −αu 0γ p , the case q = ∞ being included. The converse holds if m is sufficiently close to one. We then consider the case in which the manifold has the addition gap property min σ(−Δ) > 0. In that case solutions vanish in finite time, and we estimate from below and from above the extinction time.   相似文献

Stochastic Ising and voter models on d are natural examples of Markov processes with compact state spaces. When the initial state is chosen uniformly at random, can it happen that the distribution at time t has multiple (subsequence) limits as t→∞? Yes for the d = 1 Voter Model with Random Rates (VMRR) – which is the same as a d = 1 rate-disordered stochastic Ising model at zero temperature – if the disorder distribution is heavy-tailed. No (at least in a weak sense) for the VMRR when the tail is light or d≥ 2. These results are based on an analysis of the “localization” properties of Random Walks with Random Rates. In this paper we study the existence of global solutions to the Euler equations of compressible isothermal gas dynamics with semiconductor devices. We construct the approximate solutions by Lax–Friedrichs scheme. The convergence and consistency are obtained by using the compensated compactness framework for γ = 1. The global entropy solutions in L are obtained. We deal with the initial data containing unbounded velocity which is different from the isentropic case. Received: November 18, 2003  相似文献

We study the asymptotic dynamics of the Cahn–Hilliard equation via the “Gamma-convergence” of gradient flows scheme initiated by Sandier and Serfaty. This gives rise to an H 1-version of a conjecture by De Giorgi, namely, the slope of the Allen–Cahn functional with respect to the H −1-structure Gamma-converges to a homogeneous Sobolev norm of the scalar mean curvature of the limiting interface. We confirm this conjecture in the case of constant multiplicity of the limiting interface. Finally, under suitable conditions for which the conjecture is true, we prove that the limiting dynamics for the Cahn–Hilliard equation is motion by Mullins–Sekerka law. We prove C 1 regularity of c-convex weak Alexandrov solutions of a Monge–Ampère type equation in dimension two, assuming only a bound from above on the Monge–Ampère measure. The Monge–Ampère equation involved arises in the optimal transport problem. Our result holds true under a natural condition on the cost function, namely non-negative cost-sectional curvature, a condition introduced in Ma et al. (Arch Ration Mech Anal 177(2):151–183, 2005), that was shown in Loeper (Acta Math, to appear) to be necessary for C 1 regularity. Such a condition holds in particular for the case “cost = distance squared” which leads to the usual Monge–Ampère equation det D 2 uf. Our result is in some sense optimal, both for the assumptions on the density [thanks to the regularity counterexamples of Wang (Proc Am Math Soc 123(3):841–845, 1995)] and for the assumptions on the cost-function [thanks to the results of Loeper (Acta Math, to appear)].  相似文献

Using an integral formula of Droniou and Imbert (2005) for the fractional Laplacian, we define an entropy formulation for fractal conservation laws with pure fractional diffusion of order λ ∈]0, 1]. This allows to show the existence and the uniqueness of a solution in the L framework. We also establish a result of controled speed of propagation that generalizes the finite propagation speed result of scalar conservation laws. We finally let the non-local term vanish to approximate solutions of scalar conservation laws, with optimal error estimates for BV initial conditions as Kuznecov (1976) for λ = 2 and Droniou (2003) for λ ∈]1, 2].  相似文献

We consider the Cauchy problem for the weakly coupled parabolic system ∂ t w λ−Δ w λ = F(w λ) in R N , where λ > 0, w λ = (u λ, v λ), F(w λ) = (v λ p , u λ q ) for some p, q ≥ 1, pq > 1, and , for some nonnegative functions φ1, φ2 C 0(R N ). If (p, q) is sub-critical or either φ1 or φ2 has slow decay at ∞, w λ blows up for all λ > 0. Under these conditions, we study the blowup of w λ for λ small.   相似文献

In this paper we consider positive semigroups on Lp(Ω) generated by elliptic operators A subject to mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions on non-smooth domains Ω. We show in particular that these semigroups as well as those generated by multiplicative perturbations bA of A are irreducible, provided bL(Ω) is real and satisfies b ≥ δ for some δ > 0. We continue to study the asymptotic behavior of least energy solutions to the following fourth order elliptic problem (E p ): as p gets large, where Ω is a smooth bounded domain in R 4 . In our earlier paper (Takahashi in Osaka J. Math., 2006), we have shown that the least energy solutions remain bounded uniformly in p and they have one or two “peaks” away form the boundary. In this note, following the arguments in Adimurthi and Grossi (Proc. AMS 132(4):1013–1019, 2003) and Lin and Wei (Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 56:784–809, 2003), we will obtain more sharper estimates of the upper bound of the least energy solutions and prove that the least energy solutions must develop single-point spiky pattern, under the assumption that the domain is convex.  相似文献

We modify and extend proofs of Serrin’s symmetry result for overdetermined boundary value problems from the Laplace-operator to a general quasilinear operator and remove a strong ellipticity assumption in Philippin (Maximum principles and eigenvalue problems in partial differential equations (Knoxville, TN, 1987), Longman Sci. Tech., Pitman Res. Notes Math. Ser., Harlow, 175, pp. 34–48, 1988) and a growth assumption in Garofalo and Lewis (A symmetry result related to some overdetermined boundary value problems, Am. J. Math. 111, 9–33, 1989) on the diffusion coefficient A, as well as a starshapedness assumption on Ω in Fragalà et al. We obtain boundary estimates for the gradient of solutions to elliptic systems with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions and L 1–data, under some condition on the divergence of the data. Similar boundary estimates are obtained for div–curl and Hodge systems.  相似文献

We study the dispersive properties of the linear Schr?dinger equation with a time-dependent potential V(t,x). We show that an appropriate integrability condition in space and time on V, i.e. the boundedness of a suitable LrtLsx norm, is sufficient to prove the full set of Strichartz estimates. We also construct several counterexamples which show that our assumptions are optimal, both for local and for global Strichartz estimates, in the class of large unsigned potentials VLrtLsx. Support. We study the Cahn-Hilliard equation in a bounded smooth domain without any symmetry assumptions. We prove that for any fixed positive integer K there exist interior K–spike solutions whose peaks have maximal possible distance from the boundary and from one another. This implies that for any bounded and smooth domain there exist interior K–peak solutions. The central ingredient of our analysis is the novel derivation and exploitation of a reduction of the energy to finite dimensions (Lemma 5.5) with variables which are closely related to the location of the peaks. We do not assume nondegeneracy of the points of maximal distance to the boundary but can do with a global condition instead which in many cases is weaker. This paper is devoted to the analysis of non-negative solutions for a generalisation of the classical parabolic-elliptic Patlak–Keller–Segel system with d ≥ 3 and porous medium-like non-linear diffusion. Here, the non-linear diffusion is chosen in such a way that its scaling and the one of the Poisson term coincide. We exhibit that the qualitative behaviour of solutions is decided by the initial mass of the system. Actually, there is a sharp critical mass M c such that if solutions exist globally in time, whereas there are blowing-up solutions otherwise. We also show the existence of self-similar solutions for . While characterising the possible infinite time blowing-up profile for M  =  M c , we observe that the long time asymptotics are much more complicated than in the classical Patlak–Keller–Segel system in dimension two. This paper is concerned with a diffusive and cooperative Lotka–Volterra model with distributed delays and nonlocal spatial effect. By using an iterative technique recently developed by Wang, Li and Ruan (Traveling wave fronts in reaction-diffusion systems with spatio-temporal delays, J. Differential Equations 222 (2006), 185–232), sufficient conditions are established for the existence of traveling wave front solutions connecting the zero and the positive equilibria by choosing different kernels. The result is an extension of an existing result for Fisher-KPP equation with nonlocal delay and is somewhat parallel to the existing result for diffusive and cooperative Lotka–Volterra system with discrete delays. In this paper, we establish maximal Lp−Lq estimates for non-autonomous parabolic equations of the type u′(t)+A(t)u(t)=f(t), u(0)=0 under suitable conditions on the kernels of the semigroups generated by the operators −A(t), t∈[0,T]. We apply this result on semilinear problems of the form u′(t)+A(t)u(t)=f(t, u(t)), u(0)=0.  相似文献

Summary. Standard large deviation estimates or the use of the Hubbard–Stratonovich transformation reduce the analysis of the distribution of the overlap parameters essentially to that of an explicitly known random function Φ N,β on M . In this article we present a rather careful study of the structure of the minima of this random function related to the retrieval of the stored patterns. We denote by m * (β ) the modulus of the spontaneous magnetization in the Curie–Weiss model and by α the ratio between the number of the stored patterns and the system size. We show that there exist strictly positive numbers 0 < γ a < γ c such that (1) If √α≦γ a (m * (β )) 2 , then the absolute minima of Φ are located within small balls around the points ± m * e μ , where e μ denotes the μ-th unit vector while (2) if √α≦γ c (m * (β )) 2 at least a local minimum surrounded by extensive energy barriers exists near these points. The random location of these minima is given within precise bounds. These are used to prove sharp estimates on the support of the Gibbs measures.
