We show that a left-invariant metric g on a nilpotent Lie group N is a soliton metric if and only if a matrix U and vector v associated the manifold (N, g) satisfy the matrix equation U v = [1], where [1] is a vector with every entry a one. We associate a generalized Cartan matrix to the matrix U and use the theory of Kac–Moody algebras to analyze the solution spaces for such linear systems. An application to the existence of soliton metrics on certain filiform Lie groups is given.  相似文献

The explicit formula for the distortion function of a connected Lie subgroup in a connected simply connected nilpotent Lie group is obtained. In particular, we prove that a function f: NR can be realized (up to equivalence) as the distortion function of a connected Lie subgroup in a connected simply connected nilpotent Lie group if and only if fnr for some nonnegative rQ. Considering lattices in Lie groups, we establish the analogous results for finitely generated nilpotent groups.  相似文献

For any simply connected solvable Lie group Q of polynomial volume growth, we introduce the notion of nil-shadow of Q. We shall give an explicit formula for the distance to the origin of an element qQ in terms of its exponential coordinates of the second kind taken in an appropriate basis. This result extends a previous result for nilpotent Lie groups [6, Theorem DN] and [7, Theorem 1].  相似文献

A nilpotent Lie algebra is called an Einstein nilradical if the corresponding Lie group admits a left-invariant Ricci soliton metric. While these metrics are of independent interest, their existence is intimately related to the existence of Einstein metrics on solvable Lie groups. In this note we are concerned with the following question: How are the Einstein and non-Einstein nilradicals distributed among nilpotent Lie algebras? A full answer to this question is not known and we restrict to the class of 2-step nilpotent Lie groups. Within this class, it is known that a generic group admits a Ricci soliton metric. Using techniques from Geometric Invariant Theory, we study the set of non-generic algebras to learn more about the distribution of non-Einstein nilradicals. Many new (continuous) families of non-isomorphic, non-Einstein nilradicals are constructed. Moreover, the dimension of these families can be arbitrarily large (depending on the dimension of the underlying Lie group). To show such large classes of Lie groups are pairwise non-isomorphic, a new technique is developed to distinguish between Lie algebras.  相似文献

We study the density of closed geodesics property on 2-step nilmanifolds Γ\N, where N is a simply connected 2-step nilpotent Lie group with a left invariant Riemannian metric and Lie algebra ?, and Γ is a lattice in N. We show the density of closedgeodesics property holds for quotients of singular, simply connected, 2-step nilpotent Lie groups N which are constructed using irreducible representations of the compact Lie group SU(2). The only known examples of non-compact Einstein homogeneous spaces are standard solvmanifolds (special solvable Lie groups endowed with a left invariant metric), and according to a long standing conjecture, they might be all. The classification of Einstein solvmanifolds is equivalent to the one of Einstein nilradicals, i.e. nilpotent Lie algebras which are nilradicals of the Lie algebras of Einstein solvmanifolds. Up to now, very few examples of \mathbb N{\mathbb N}-graded nilpotent Lie algebras that cannot be Einstein nilradicals have been found. In particular, in each dimension, there are only finitely many known. We exhibit in the present paper two curves of pairwise non-isomorphic nine-dimensional two-step nilpotent Lie algebras which are not Einstein nilradicals.  相似文献

For each compact Lie algebra g and each real representationV of g we construct a two-step nilpotent Lie groupN(g, V), endowed with a natural left-invariant riemannian metric. The main goal of this paper is to show that this construction produces many new Gelfand pairs associated with nilpotent Lie groups. Indeed, we will give a full classification of the manifoldsN(g, V) which are commutative spaces, using a characterization in terms of multiplicity-free actions.Supported by a fellowship from CONICET and research grants from CONICOR and SeCyT UNC (Argentina).  相似文献

In this article we give a new technique for exponentiating infinite dimensional graded representations of graded Lie algebras that allows for the exponentiation of some non-locally nilpotent elements. Our technique is to naturally extend the representation of the Lie algebra g on the space V naturally to a representation on a subspace £ of the dual space V *. After introducing the technique, we prove that it enables the exponentiation of all elements of free Lie Algebras and afhne Kac-Moody Lie algebras.  相似文献

For any complex 6-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra \mathfrakg,\mathfrak{g}, we compute the strain of all indecomposable 7-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras which contain \mathfrakg\mathfrak{g} by the adjoining a derivation method. We get a new determination of all 7-dimensional complex nilpotent Lie algebras, allowing to check earlier results (some contain errors), along with a cross table intertwining nilpotent 6- and 7-dimensional Lie algebras.  相似文献

Summary We study the expansion of the solution of a stochastic differential equation as an (infinite) sum of iterated stochastic (Stratonovitch) integrals. This enables us to give a universal and explicit formula for any invariant diffusion on a Lie group in terms of Lie brackets, as well as a universal and explicit formula for the brownian motion on a Riemannian manifold in terms of derivatives of the curvature tensor. The first of these formulae contains, and extends to the non nilpotent case, the results of Doss [6], Sussmann [17], Yamato [18], Fliess and Normand-Cyrot [7], Krener and Lobry [19] and Kunita [11] on the representation of solutions of stochastic differential equations.  相似文献

We show quasi-isometric rigidity for a class of finitely generated, non-polycyclic nilpotent-by-cyclic groups. Specifically, let Γ1, Γ2 be ascending HNN extensions of finitely generated nilpotent groups N 1 and N 2, such that Γ1 is irreducible (see Definition 1.1). If Γ1 and Γ2 are quasi-isometric to each other then N 1 and N 2 are virtual lattices in a common simply connected nilpotent Lie group [(N)\tilde]{\tilde{N}}. As a consequence, we show the class of irreducible ascending HNN extensions of finitely generated nilpotent groups is quasi-isometrically rigid.  相似文献

We generalize the classical Paley–Wiener theorem to special types of connected, simply connected, nilpotent Lie groups: First we consider nilpotent Lie groups whose Lie algebra admits an ideal which is a polarization for a dense subset of generic linear forms on the Lie algebra. Then we consider nilpotent Lie groups such that the co-adjoint orbits of all the elements of a dense subset of the dual of the Lie algebra 𝔤* are flat (© 2009 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We give a characterization of the Lie algebras of H-type independent of the inner product used in the definition. We classify the real 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras with 2-dimensional center. Using these results we give examples of regular Lie algebras that are not H-type.  相似文献

Let KK be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. In this paper, we prove the equivalence between stability and quasi-reductivity for parabolic subalgebras of exceptional Lie algebras. Therefore, and considering the results of [1], we give a positive answer to the assertion (ii) of the conjecture (5.6) in [11] for parabolic Lie algebras.  相似文献

For a semisimple algebraic group G over C, we try to make a comparative study between intersection cohomology of Schubert varieties and Lie algebra homology of certain nilpotent Lie algebras. We prove that when all simple factors of G are simply laced, these two are the same as vector spaces over C at the first homology level. We give counter-examples in the general case and state a conjecture as a possible direction for generalisation.  相似文献

A Lie algebra L is called 2-step nilpotent if L is not abelian and [L,L] lies in the center of L. 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras are useful in the study of some geometric problems, and their classification has been an important problem in Lie theory. In this paper, we give a classification of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension 9 with 2-dimensional center.  相似文献

Let L be an n-dimensional non-abelian nilpotent Lie algebra and $ s(L) = \frac{1} {2}(n - 1)(n - 2) + 1 - \dim M(L) $ s(L) = \frac{1} {2}(n - 1)(n - 2) + 1 - \dim M(L) where M(L) is the Schur multiplier of L. In [Niroomand P., Russo F., A note on the Schur multiplier of a nilpotent Lie algebra, Comm. Algebra (in press)] it has been shown that s(L) ≥ 0 and the structure of all nilpotent Lie algebras has been determined when s(L) = 0. In the present paper, we will characterize all finite dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras with s(L) = 1; 2.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We study the varieties of Lie algebra laws and their subvarieties of nilpotent Lie algebra laws. We classify all degenerations of (almost all) five-step and six-step nilpotent seven-dimensional complex Lie algebras. One of the main tools is the use of trivial and adjoint cohomology of these algebras. In addition, we give some new results on the varieties of complex Lie algebra laws in low dimension.  相似文献

In this paper, we study naturally reductive Finsler metrics. We first give a sufficient and necessary condition for a Finsler metric to be naturally reductive with respect to certain transitive group of isometries. Then we study in detail the left invariant naturally reductive metrics on compact Lie groups and give a method to construct the non-Riemannian ones. Further, we give a classification of left invariant naturally reductive metrics on nilpotent Lie groups. Finally, we give a classification of all the naturally reductive Finsler spaces of dimension less or qual to 4. As applications, we obtain some rigidity theorems about naturally reductive Finsler metrics. Namely, any left invariant non-symmetric naturally reductive Finsler metric on a compact simple Lie group or an indecomposable nilpotent Lie group must be Riemannian. On the other hand, we provide a very convenient method to construct non-symmetric Berwald spaces which are neither Riemannian nor locally Minkowskian, a kind of spaces which are sought after in the book by Bao et al. (An introduction to Riemann–Finsler geometry, GTM 200, 2000).  相似文献
