Studies on ZnO ceramic varistors by deep heat treatment at 650–900 C are reported. The current creep time curve exhibits a peak during the continuous action of a dc biasing voltage; the forwardV-l characteristic is improved rather than degraded after the action of the biasing voltage. We assume that the zinc interstitial cations Zni are out diffused rapidly and the concentration of Zni in the depletion layer is decreased rapidly during deep heat treatment; the oxygen anions O’o could be accumulated at the grain interface if the out diffusion quantity of Zni is not enough to react with the O’o; the current creep phenomenon above results from the migration of the interface O’o by the biasing voltage. We suggest an improved grain boundary defect model for the ZnO varistors by deep heat treatment, and examine the model using the experimental data of lifetime positron-annihilation spectroscopy. We investigate the linear well-posedness for a class of three-phase boundary motion problems and perform some numerical simulations. In a typical model, three-phase boundaries evolve under certain evolution laws with specified normal velocities. The boundaries meet at a triple junction with appropriate conditions applied. A system of partial differential equations and algebraic equations (PDAE) is proposed to describe the problems. With reasonable assumptions, all problems are shown to be well-posed if all three boundaries evolve under the same evolution law. For problems involving two or more evolution laws, we show the well-posedness case by case for some examples. Numerical simulations are performed for some examples.  相似文献

A second-order fluid flow model of a queue with finite capacity buffer and variable net input process is presented, based on the previous work of Karandikar and Kulkarni (1995). Queue length is modelled as a Brownian motion whose parameters are controlled by a finite state Markov chain. The process, termed a Markov modulated regulated Brownian motion (MMRBM), provides analytical solutions for steady state queue length distributions, overflow losses and idleness probabilities using boundary regulators. Applications of the model include queues with failure-prone servers and ATM statistical multiplexers with variable traffic loads. In this paper, we continue to study an initial boundary value problems to a model describing the evolution in time of diffusive phase interfaces in sea ice growth. In a previous paper, the global existence and the large-time behavior of weak solutions in one space was studied under Dirichlet boundary conditions. Here, we show that the global existence of weak solutions and the large-time behavior are also studied under Neumann boundary condition. In the recent literature, the boundary element method (BEM) is extensively used to solve time-dependent partial differential equations. However, most of these formulations yield algorithms where one has to include all interior points in the computation process if finite difference procedures are used to approximate the temporal derivative. This obviously restricts the advantages of the BEM, which is mainly considered to be a boundary only algorithm for time-independent problems. A new algorithm is demonstrated here, which extends the boundary only nature of the method to time-dependent partial differential equations. Using this procedure, one can reduce the finite difference time integration algorithm, generated in a standard manner, to a boundary only process. The proposed method is demonstrated with considerable success for diffusion problems. Results obtained in these applications are presented comparatively with analytical and other boundary element time integration procedures. The algorithm proposed may utilize several coordinate functions in the secondary reduction phase of the formulation. A summary of such functions is described here and performances of these functions are tested and compared in three applications. It is shown that some coordinate functions perform better than others under certain conditions. Using these results, we propose a general coordinate function, which may be used with satisfactory results in all parabolic partial differential equation applications.  相似文献

We deal with boundary value problems (prescribing Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions) for a nonlocal nonlinear diffusion operator which is analogous to the porous medium equation. First, we prove existence, uniqueness and the validity of a comparison principle for these problems. Next, we impose boundary data that blow up in finite time and study the behavior of the solutions.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct the exact solution for fluid motion caused by the uniform expansion of a cylindrical or spherical piston into still air. Following Lighthill [1], we introduce velocity potential into the analysis and seek a similarity form of the solution. We find both numerical and analytic solutions of the second order nonlinear differential equation, with the boundary conditions at the shock and at the piston. The results obtained from the analytic solutions justify numerical solution and the approximate solution of Lighthill [1]. We find that although the approximate solution of Lighthill [1] gives remarkably good numerical results, the analytic form of that solution is not mathematically satisfactory. We also find that in case of spherical piston motion Lighthill’s [1] solution differs significantly from that of our analytic and numerical solutions. We use Pade′ approximation to extend the radius of convergence of the series solution. We also carry out some local analysis at the boundary to obtain some singular solutions.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a free boundary problem for a nonlinear system of two ordinary differential equations, one of which is singular at some points, including the initial point . Because of the singularity at , the initial value problem has a one-parameter family of solutions. We prove that there exists a unique solution to the free boundary problem. The proof of existence employs two ``shooting' parameters. Analysis of the profiles of solutions of the initial value problem and tools such as comparison theorems and weak limits of solutions play an important role in the proof. The system considered here is motivated by a model in tumor growth, but the methods developed should be applicable to more general systems.
