The modulation instability of a broad electromagnetic beam in a biased two-photon photovoltaic photorefractive material, due to two-photon-photorefractive effect has been investigated. The one-dimensional modulation instability growth rate has been estimated under the linear stability framework. The behavior of the gain spectrum is different in low and high power regions. It has been predicted that, with the application of external electric field, it is possible to initiate and control growth of the instability in those media, where modulation instability was hitherto prohibited. The influence of different system parameters on the instability growth rate has been examined.  相似文献

In this paper, we have shown the existence of large amounts of quintic nonlinearity in asymmetric three-coupled quantum wells, which arise due to a probe pulse and two controlling laser beams. The possibilities of generation and propagation of ultraslow bright optical solitons in these systems have been examined in situations of both Kerr and quintic nonlinearities. We have also demonstrated numerically that these solitons are stable. The modulation instability of a continuous or quasi-continuous wave probe beam has been also investigated and the role of quintic nonlinearity in suppressing this instability has been addressed.  相似文献

The conditions for the appearance of modulation instability of a two-wave packet formed by two unidirectional strongly interacting modes traveling in a two-mode fiber waveguide are studied. The possibility of the existence of modulation instability in the region of normal dispersion and the effect of the initial conditions of fiber excitation on the development of modulation instability are demonstrated.  相似文献

基于多光子非线性Compton散射模型,研究了Compton散射下等离子体中强朗缪尔湍动对调制不稳定性的影响。将入射光和Compton散射光作为形成强朗缪尔湍动和调制不稳定性的新机制,给出了强朗缪尔湍动、色散和调制不稳定性时间增长率所满足的修正方程,并进行了数值模拟。结果表明,与Compton散射前相比,Compton散射使等离子体内产生了更为剧烈的坍塌,坍塌后期形成的强朗缪尔湍动,使等离子体界面附近的调制不稳定性的时间增长率显著增大,调制不稳定性发展得更快,光场峰值增加得更强,并使整体激光场出现明显的成丝现象。  相似文献

The possibility of induced backscattering parametric decay instability resonant suppression by harmonic pump-frequency modulation is demonstrated experimentally. It is shown that the pump anomalous reflection is strongly reduced at the modulation frequency equal to the difference of the decay instability eigenfrequencies. The parametric instability feedback control method is proposed based on this effect.  相似文献

利用激光脉冲在光纤光栅中传播时所遵守的相干耦合非线性薛定谔方程,研究了激光脉冲在高斯变迹布拉格光纤光栅中传输时,在反常色散区和正常色散区所产生的调制不稳定性.结果表明在反常色散区和正常色散区都能产生调制不稳定性;在反常色散区,当输入功率达到一定数值时,产生明显的有规律的增益谱;在正常色散区,在产生调制不稳定性功率区域,调制不稳定性存在并从给定值一直持续到无穷;并且,在反常色散区和在正常色散区,增益谱都受到高斯变迹函数的制约. 关键词: 高斯变迹 布拉格光栅 调制不稳定性 增益  相似文献

The nonlinear baseband electromagnetic pulses of a wide spectrum that lies in terahertz (THz) range are investigated theoretically in the paraelectric crystals like SrTiO3 at the temperatures ~ 77 K. The frequency dispersion is important in THz range there. The dominating nonlinearity of the crystal is cubic. The frequency dispersion and nonlinearity correspond to existence of envelope solitons and the modulation instability of long input envelope pulses, whereas in the transverse direction the modulation instability is absent. When the nonlinear wave is uniform in the transverse direction, the existence of soliton-like baseband pulses without a carrier frequency has been demonstrated. There exists a possibility to generate the regular sequences of short baseband pulses due to the nonlinearity in the paraelectric crystals. The nonlinear focusing of input long baseband pulses by the exciting antenna results in the formation of extremely short baseband pulses localized both in the longitudinal and transverse directions.  相似文献

利用光脉冲在光纤中传播时所遵守的相干非线性薛定谔耦合方程,研究了线偏振光在光纤中的传输特性.结果表明:由于线性双折射、非线性效应和色散的相互作用,导致光的偏振状态发生变化,产生交叉相位调制(XPM),从而导致调制不稳定性.这一调制不稳性不仅在反常色散区产生,在正常色散区也能产生,并且线性双折射发生变化时,增益谱也随之发生变化.  相似文献

It has been shown that the system of Zakharov equations for the amplitudes of the first and zeroth harmonics of the waves on the surface of an ideal liquid describes not only the known type of the modulation instability of the envelope of the main harmonic with respect to harmonic perturbations with small wave vectors κ (Benjamin-Feier modulation instability), but also the modulation instability of a combination of the main and zeroth harmonics at κ values on the order of the wave vector k 0 of the main harmonic. In contrast to the Benjamin-Feier modulation instability typical for large depths, the described modulation instability does not disappear at k 0 h < 1.363.  相似文献

从光纤耦合器的耦合模方程出发,用偶奇超模对其进行重写,讨论了当输入条件使奇偶超模其中之一被单独激发时,在光子晶体光纤耦合器中的调制不稳定性.结果表明:光子晶体光纤耦合器中在正常和反常色散区均存在调制不稳定性,并且调制不稳定性与三阶色散项无关、与四阶色散项有关,给出了增益谱在不同色散区随输入功率的变化关系;当满足一定条件时,在光子晶体光纤耦合器中传播的准连续波可以分解成脉冲序列,由此可以分离和提取超短脉冲. 关键词: 光子晶体光纤耦合器 偶次超模 奇次超模 标量调制不稳定性  相似文献

The problem of the modulation instability of a weakly nonlinear quasi-monochromatic wave on the surface of deep water in the presence of a steady-state collinear large-scale inhomogeneous flow (e.g., of a jet type) has been considered. In a certain range of (obtuse) angles of incidence of the wave with respect to the flow direction, the steepness of the refracted wave increases considerably, which contributes to the enhancement of nonlinear effects, including the formation of so-called rogue waves. The corresponding nonlinear Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients suitable for the analysis of the modulation instability has been derived.  相似文献

The transition from stationary to chaotic spin-wave soliton trains has been observed. The experiment utilized cw excitation of envelope solitons through self-modulation instability of spin waves. By increasing the spin-wave power, the secondary self-modulation instability succeeded the primary modulation instability, resulting in after-modulation of the soliton train amplitude. Further increase of the spin-wave power led to development of the higher-order instabilities, resulting in formation of the chaotic soliton train.  相似文献

We show that modulation instability can exist with partially spatially incoherent light beams in a noninstantaneous nonlinear environment. We investigate the generation mechanisms for ultra-wide spectra in nonlinear optical fibers. Soliton fission and modulation instability represent fundamental mechanisms for the generation process. The primary origin of the spectral broadening changes with the pump-pulse duration. Soliton fission dominates for low input power and short pulses. Its efficiency for supercontinuum generation and especially the extension to the blue side can be increased by proper design of the dispersion profile. The modulation instability has a strong impact for high input powers and greatly enhances the generation process, but leads to a degradation of the coherence properties. Also for short pulses with durations of 60 fs the modulation instability is present and can hardly be suppressed. The interplay between these two effects leads to various characteristics of the resulting spectra, which are modified by the relative impact of the modulation instability. In this paper,we investigate the modulation instability for generating femtosecond pulses in fibres with slowly decreasing dispersion.Higher-order dispersion and higher-order nonlinear effects are taken into account when the continuous wave or quasi-continuous wave evolves into sub-picosecond and femtosecond pulses by modulation instability in the optical fibres.Our research results show that the gain spectrum of the dispersion-decreasing fibres is much wider than that in conventional fibres.The third-order dispersion effect has no contribution to gain spectrum,while the self-steepening effect reduces the maximum value and gain bandwidth,and the Raman self-scattering effect widens the extent to which the modulation instability occurs.  相似文献

Motivated by the recent experiment [Nature 530(2016) 194] in which a stable droplet in a dipolar quantum gas has been created by the interaction-induced instability, we focus on the modulation instability of an optically-trapped dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate with three-body interaction. Within the mean-field level, we analytically solve the discrete cubic-quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation with dipole-dipole interaction loaded into a deep optical lattice and show how combined effects of the three-body interaction and dipole-dipole interaction on the condition of modulational instability. Our results show that the interplay of the three-body interaction and dipole-dipole interaction can dramatically change the modulation instability condition compared with the ordinary Gross-Pitaevskii equation. We believe that the predicted results in this work can be useful for the future possible experiment of loading a Bose-Einstein condensate of ~(164)Dy atoms with strong magnetic dipole-dipole interaction into an optical lattice.  相似文献

超常介质与常规光学介质的一个最重要的区别是前者具有色散磁导率,其折射率呈现出可正可负,这样调制不稳定性出现新特点。借助于Wigner变换,从一般的非线性薛定谔方程出发,得到了部分相干光满足Wigner-Moyal的方程,获得了色散关系和增益谱,揭示了部分相干度不仅可抑制调制不稳定性,而且还可以缩小发生不稳定性的频率范围。  相似文献
