The effect of hydration on the kinetic fragility of soda-lime-silica glasses was investigated by viscometry in the glass transition range. Water-bearing glasses were prepared from industrial float glass (FG) and a ternary model glass (NCS = 16Na2O 10CaO 74SiO2 in mol%) by bubbling steam through the melt at 1480 °C and up to 7 bar. Additionally, a sodium borosilicate glass (NBS = 16Na2O 10B2O3 74SiO2 in mol%) was hydrated under equal conditions. As detected by infrared spectroscopy water dissolves in the glasses exclusively as OH-groups. The hydration resulted in a total water content CW up to ≈ 0.2 wt% for FG, NCS and NBS glasses. Kinetic fragility, expressed by the steepness index m, was determined from the temperature dependence of η at the glass transition. Viscosity data from previous studies on hydrous float glasses (CW > 1 wt%) were surveyed together with literature data on the (H2O)–Na2O–CaO–SiO2, (H2O)–Na2O–SiO2 and (H2O)–SiO2 systems to expand the range of water concentration and bulk composition. We could demonstrate that m decreases for all glasses although water is dissolved as OH and should depolymerize the network. An empirical equation of the general type m = a ? b logCW where a, b are fitting parameters, enables m to be predicted, for each glass series as function of the water content CW. The enlarged data base shows that the parameter B of the Arrhenius viscosity-temperature relation decreases much stronger than the isokom temperature at the glass transition.  相似文献

We report the results of a systematic study of the thermal and optical properties of a new family of tellurite glasses, TeO2–ZnO–BaO (TZBa), as a function of the barium oxide mole fraction and compare them with those of TeO2–ZnO–Na2O (TZN). The characteristic temperatures of this new glass family (glass transition, Tg, crystallization, Tx, and melting, Tm) increase significantly with BaO content and the glasses are more thermally stable (greater ΔT = Tx ? Tg) than TZN glasses. Relative to these, Raman gain coefficient of the TZBa glasses also increases by approximately 40% as well as the Raman shift from ~ 680 cm? 1 to ~ 770 cm? 1. The latter shift is due to the modification of the glass with the creation of non-bridging oxygen ions in the glass network. Raman spectroscopy allows us to monitor the changes in the glass network resulting from the introduction of BaO.  相似文献

The structure of RNa2O · B2O3 · KSiO2 · xP2O5 (0.5 < R < 2; 0.86 < K < 3) borosilicate glasses has been studied by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). 31P magic angle spinning (MAS), double quantum-magic angle spinning (DQ-MAS) and 31P–11B transfer of populations under double resonance magic angle spinning (TRAPDOR MAS) NMR were used to determine the phosphate speciation in the glasses and their connectivity with the borosilicate network. The structure of the glass network was characterized with 11B, 29Si and 23Na MAS NMR. Ab initio calculations of the 31P chemical shielding were carried out in order to confirm the connectivity between phosphorus and the structural units of the borosilicate glass network. Na3PO4 (monophosphate), Na4P2O7 (diphosphate) and P–O–B species (mono- and diphosphate groups with borate units as the next nearest neighbors) are found all along the compositional range studied. The proportion of the P–O–B groups increases as the glass optical basicity decreases, while the proportions of mono- and diphosphate species decrease. The change in the glass transition temperature of the phospho-borosilicate glasses with respect to that of the borosilicate ones is discussed in terms of the structural characterization. The formation of phosphate species gives rise to the increase in Tg, which is attributed to the re-polymerization of the silicate network, while the formation of P–O–B bonds weakens the glass network and produces a decrease in the glass transition temperature.  相似文献

CuO-doped barium borophosphate glasses in a series of xCuO–(45  x)BaO–10B2O3–45P2O5 in molar ratio with x = 0–15 mol% were prepared by a melt-quenching technique. All the glasses had excellent thermal stability against crystallization. Glass transition temperature, thermal expansion coefficient and molar volume decrease with increasing CuO concentration. The linear relationship between the absorption coefficient and CuO concentration exists for a peak wavelength in the transitions of 2A1g  2B1g, 2B2g  2B1g, 2Eg  2B1g. The relationship between the properties and glass structure evaluated by Raman spectroscopy is discussed.  相似文献

ZnO–B2O3–P2O5 glasses doped with MoO3 were investigated in the series (100?x)[0.5ZnO–0.1B2O3–0.4P2O5]–xMoO3, where bulk glasses were obtained by slow cooling in air within the compositional region of 0 ? x ? 60 mol% MoO3. The incorporation of MoO3 into the parent zinc borophosphate glass results in a weakening of bond strength in the structural network, which induces a decrease in chemical durability and glass transition temperature. Raman spectra reflect the incorporation of molybdate groups into the glass network of the studied glasses by the presence of the polarized vibrational band at ≈976 cm?1 ascribed to the MOx symmetric stretching vibrations and the depolarized band at ≈878 cm?1 ascribed to the Mo–O–Mo stretching vibration. The incorporation of molybdate units into the glass network results in the depolymerization of phosphate chains and the formation of P–O–Mo bonds, as reflected in Raman and 31P NMR spectra. According to the 11B MAS NMR spectra, tetrahedral B(OP)4?x(OMo)x units are formed in the glasses, whereas only a small amount of BO4 units is converted to BO3 units in the MoO3-rich glasses.  相似文献

Er3+-doped tellurite glasses of the (80 ? x)TeO2–20ZnO–(x)Er2O3 system (0.5 mol% ? x ? 2.5 mol%) have successfully been made by melt-quenching technique and their structure has been investigated by means of DTA and Raman spectroscopy. The DTA results show the thermal parameters; such as the glass transition temperature (Tg) and crystallization temperature (Tc) were determined. It is found that this system provides a stable and wide glass formation range in which the glass stability around 99–140 °C may be obtained. The Raman spectroscopy used the structural studies in the glass system. Two Raman shift peaks were observed around 640–670 cm?1 and 720–740 cm?1, which correspond to the stretching vibration mode of TeO4 tbp and TeO3 tp, respectively. It is found that the spectral shift in Raman spectra is depending on the Er2O3 content. This evolution is an indication of the changes in the basic unit of the glass structure.  相似文献

Glass samples from four systems: xPbO–(100?x)B2O3 (x = 30, 40, 50 and 60 mol%), 50PbO–yAl2O3–(50?y)B2O3 (y = 2, 4, 6, 8 mol%), 50PbO–ySiO2–(50?y)B2O3 (y = 5, 10, 20, 30 mol%) and 50PbO–5SiO2yAl2O3–(45?y)B2O3 (y = 2, 4, 6, 8 mol%) were prepared by a melt-quench technique. Characterization of these systems was carried out using density measurements, UV–visible spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and 11B and 27Al magic-angle spinning (MAS) solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Our studies reveal an increase in glass density with increasing lead(II) oxide concentration in pure lead borates and also with addition of silica into 50PbO–50B2O3 glass. 11B MAS NMR measurements determine that the fraction of tetrahedral borons (N4) reaches a maximum for the glass containing 50 mol% of PbO in the PbO–B2O3 glass series and that N4 is sharply reduced upon adding small amounts of Al2O3 into lead borate and lead borosilicate systems. 27Al MAS NMR experiments performed on glasses doped with aluminum oxide show that the Al3+ are tetra-, penta- and hexa-coordinated with oxygen, even without any excess concentration of Al3+ over charge-balancing Pb2+ cations. [5]Al and [6]Al concentrations are found to have unusually high values of up to 30%. The results of UV–visible absorption spectroscopy, DSC and density measurements support the conclusions drawn from the NMR studies, providing a consistent picture of structure–property relations in these glass systems.  相似文献

In an effort to design low-melting, durable, transparent glasses, two series of glasses have been prepared in the NaPO3–ZnO–Nb2O5–Al2O3 system with ZnO/Nb2O5 ratio of 2 and 1. The addition of ZnO and Nb2O5 to the sodium aluminophosphate matrix yields a linear increase of properties such as glass transition temperature, density, refractive index and elastic moduli. The chemical durability is also significantly, but nonlinearly, improved. The glass with the highest niobium concentration, 55NaPO3–20ZnO–20Nb2O5–5Al2O3 was found to have a dissolution rate of 4.5 × 10? 8 g cm? 2 min? 1, comparable to window glass. Structural models of the glasses were developed using Raman spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and the models were correlated with the compositional dependence of the properties.  相似文献

A series of glasses in the (Ge,Si)O2–Nb2O5–(Na,K)2O system were prepared by melting and casting. Their density and characteristic temperatures were determined by Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and their structure was analyzed by infrared and polarized Raman spectroscopies. DTA data have indicated an increased glass thermal stability with the replacement of GeO2 by SiO2. Kramers–Kronig analysis of the infrared specular reflectance data indicated a strong ionic character for the germanosilicate glasses. The Raman spectra of germanosilicate compositions were generally dominated by an intense Boson peak at ∼72 cm−1 and a high frequency, polarised peak at ∼880 cm−1, related to NbO6 octahedra with at least one non-bridging oxygen. The germanosilicate structure appears to be formed by alternating GeO4 tetrahedra and NbO6 octahedra, in addition to SiO4 tetrahedra.  相似文献

A 5-oxide glass (62.5SiO2, 16.6B2O3, 13.1Na2O, 6.0CaO, 1.8ZrO2) was leached at 90 °C at a high glass-surface-area-to-solution-volume ratio (SA/V = 80 cm?1). Its dissolution rate diminished over time until it became unmeasurable. The alteration layer was characterized by 29Si isotopic tracing in the leaching solution. ToF-SIMS elemental profiles showed that glass dissolution ceased due to clogging of the gel porosity at the gel/solution interface. One of the hypotheses proposed to account for the rate drop observed during borosilicate glass alteration is based on morphological changes in the alteration gel over time. Monte Carlo modeling of glass alteration, especially with simple glasses, indicates a clogging of the porosity on the external portion of the gel (near the solution/gel interface) after densification of the layer by silicon precipitation, but this phenomenon had never previously been directly observed experimentally. The initial results obtained by isotopic tracing provide new data that appears to confirm this hypothesis.  相似文献

Variations in glass transition temperature, onset of crystallization, thermal expansion coefficient, density and molar volume with B2O3 concentration were studied in a series of xB2O3–(100  x)Ba(PO3)2 glasses with 0–10 mol% B2O3. DTA analysis and isothermal treatments for powdered glass samples reveal that ⩾7.5 mol% B2O3 addition suppresses surface crystallization during softening process. Raman spectroscopy suggests that the properties are related to the glass structure consisting of PO4 Q2 units with diborate and PO4–BO4 groups.  相似文献

Raman spectra and electrooptical Kerr coefficients of glasses belonging to one lithium–niobate–silicate glass-forming system xNb2O5 · (66 ? x)SiO2 · 19Li2O · 11K2O · 2B2O3 · 2CdO are studied. It has been found that these glasses demonstrate a record value of electrooptical Kerr coefficient; the glass with x = 35 showed electrooptical Kerr coefficient equal to 266 × 10?16 m/V2. Using Raman spectroscopy combined with the concept of Constant Stoichiometric Groupings, a correlation of electrooptical Kerr coefficients of these glasses with the content of Li2O · Nb2O5 (or 2LiNbO3) groupings has been demonstrated. The hypothesis that electrooptical Kerr sensitivity of glasses is related to the ordered regions with composition and symmetry corresponding to some of known electrooptical crystals has been verified. These regions, which the authors called ‘Crystal Motifs’, are identified with the groupings found in studying Raman spectra of the glasses.  相似文献

Various fluoride, phosphate and borosilicate glasses with known properties and global structure have been doped with Eu3+ (4f6) at doping concentrations between 1018 and 1021 cm?3. By applying reductive melting conditions Eu3+ could partially be transformed to Eu2+ (4f7). Four fluoroaluminate glasses with varying phosphate content between 0 and 20 mol% (FPx), a pure phosphate glass (P100) and two borosilicate glasses with low (DURAN®-like) and high optical basicity (NBS1) have been used for these investigations. The time-resolved fluorescence in the visible range has been studied for both ions. Although static and dynamic fluorescence of Eu3+ and Eu2+ are dramatically different (f–f-transitions for Eu3+; d–f-transitions for Eu2+), glass structure changes have a similar influence on the dynamic fluorescence behavior of both ions. A strongly ionic surrounding due to fluorine ligands as in fluoroaluminate glass samples provides the longest fluorescence lifetime (about 7 ms for Eu3+; about 1.3 μs for Eu2+). Increasing phosphate content decreases the fluorescence lifetime due to more oxygen ligands. Interesting differences have been found for the two borosilicate glasses due to the difference in their optical basicity (Na2O/B2O3 ratio). Measurements indicate a homogeneous distribution of europium ions in most FP samples. NBS1 measurements suggest that two different local europium sites are formed. For Duran-like samples only one specific europium site was found, although these samples show phase separation at high doping concentrations into a SiO2-rich phase and borate- and europium-rich droplets. Fluorescence quenching due to energy transfer from Eu2+ to Eu3+ could be found for co-doped samples; Eu3+-doped samples show no fluorescence quenching.  相似文献

Modified iron phosphate glasses have been prepared with nominal molar compositions [(1?x)·(0.6P2O5–0.4Fe2O3)]·xRySO4, where x = 0–0.5 in increments of 0.1 and R = Li, Na, K, Mg, Ca, Ba, or Pb and y = 1 or 2. In most cases the vast majority or all of the sulfate volatalizes and quarternary P2O5–Fe2O3–FeO–RyOz glasses or partially crystalline materials are formed. Here we have characterized the structure, thermal properties, chemical durability and redox state of these materials. Raman spectroscopy indicates that increasing modifier oxide additions result in depolymerization of the phosphate network such that the average value of i, the number of bridging oxygens per –(PO4)– tetrahedron, and expressed as Qi, decreases. Differences have been observed between the structural effects of different modifier types but these are secondary to the amount of modifier added. Alkali additions have little effect on density; slightly increasing Tg and Td; increasing α and Tliq; and promoting bulk crystallization at temperatures of 600–700 °C. Additions of divalent cations increase density, α, Tg, Td, Tliq and promote bulk crystallization at temperatures of 700–800 °C. Overall the addition of divalent cations has a less deleterious effect on glass stability than alkali additions. 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy confirms that iron is present as Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions which primarily occupy distorted octahedral sites. This is consistent with accepted structural models for iron phosphate glasses. The iron redox ratio, Fe2+/ΣFe, has a value of 0.13–0.29 for the glasses studied. The base glass exhibits a very low aqueous leach rate when measured by Product Consistency Test B, a standard durability test for nuclear waste glasses. The addition of high quantities of alkali oxide (30–40 mol% R2O) to the base glass increases leach rates, but only to levels comparable with those measured for a commercial soda-lime-silica glass and for a surrogate nuclear waste-loaded borosilicate glass. Divalent cation additions decrease aqueous leach rates and large additions (30–50 mol% RO) provide exceptionally low leach rates that are 2–3 orders of magnitude lower than have been measured for the surrogate waste-loaded borosilicate glass. The P2O5–Fe2O3–FeO–BaO glasses reported here show particular promise as they are ultra-durable, thermally stable, low-melting glasses with a large glass-forming compositional range.  相似文献

SiO2–B2O3 aerogels have been prepared by drying wet gels at a supercritical condition for ethanol in an autoclave. Aerogels have been nitrided for 6 h in flowing ammonia at the temperature of 1200 °C. It has been found that the amount of nitrogen incorporated in these aerogels always exceeds 20 wt%. This is a much higher value compared with the amount of nitrogen incorporated in a pure silica aerogel nitrided at the same conditions. The specific surface area of SiO2–B2O3 aerogels has been between 312 and 359 m2/g. After nitridation some shrinkage of aerogels has been observed and the surface area decreases about 20%. In FTIR spectra of SiO2–B2O3 aerogels a typical bands for SiO2 are observed. After nitridation a shift and broadening of 1100 cm?1 band to lower wavenumbers indicates that Si–N and B–N bonds are formed in nitrided aerogels.  相似文献

Li2S + GeS2 + GeO2 ternary glasses have been prepared and a wide glass-forming range was obtained. The glass transition temperatures increase with the GeO2 concentration in the glasses. The vibrational modes of both bridging (Ge–S–Ge) and non-bridging (Ge–S) sulfurs are observed in Raman and IR spectra of binary Li2S + GeS2 glasses. Additions of GeO2 to this binary glass increase the bridging oxygen band (Ge–O–Ge) at the expense of decreasing the bridging sulfur band (Ge–S–Ge), whereas the bands associated with the non-bridging sulfurs (Ge–S) remain constant in intensity up to high GeO2 concentrations. At higher concentrations of GeO2 (⩾60%), the non-bridging oxygen band, which is not observed at low and intermediate GeO2 concentrations, appears and grows stronger. From these observations, it is suggested that the added lithium ions favor the non-bridging sulfur sites over the oxygen sites to form non-bridging sulfurs, whereas the added oxygen prefers the higher field strength Ge4+ cation to form bridging Ge–O–Ge bonds. The structural groups in the Li2S + GeS2 + GeO2 glasses that are consistent with results of Raman and IR spectra are described and are used to develop a structural model of these glasses.  相似文献

Different glass samples in the Li2O, PbO and B2O3 system have been prepared by melt quenching method. These glasses were classified in two groups such as 0.5 B2O3, (0.5 ? x) PbO, xLi2O and (0.5 + y) B2O3; (0.25 ? y)PbO; 0.25Li2O. The IR spectra almost show broad bands in the frequency range (800–1050) cm?1 and (1100–1500) cm?1, together with different weak bands over the range of investigation (2400–3000) cm?1. The deconvolution analyses of these IR spectra reveals presence of multi structure arrangements from BO4 and BO3 groups, such as penta, tri, and diborates grouping together with meta; ortho borates as well as PbOn groups. Partial replacement of PbO by Li2O causes decrease in microhardness, a change which is attributed to the decrease in the concentration of ortho borate groups as is it revealed from the bands area analysis. The IR analysis shows also that the total concentration of (meta + ortho) borates is nearly constant while their individual concentrations is proportional depending on the relative concentration of PbO and Li2O.  相似文献

Transparent glass-ceramics were synthesized by heat-treatment of glass with a composition of 5La2O3–13.2MgO–28.8Al2O3–46SiO2–4.5TiO2–2.5ZrO2–0.15CoO (LMAS) (wt.%). The activation energy of crystallization and the Avrami parameter for the LMAS glass were determined from the DTA curves at different heating rates. The most two intense bands of Raman spectrum of initial glass at ~ 810 cm?1 and ~ 900 cm?1 were connected with the presence of [SiO4] and [TiO4] tetrahedral, respectively. After heat-treated at 700 °C/10 h+820 °C/8 h, the intensity of the band for [TiO4] tetrahedral weakened, while an intensive band at ~ 800 cm?1 for the Ti–O bond appeared. Other bands were characteristics of high-silicate network and x(MgTi2O5y(Al2TiO5) polycrystals. The changes reflected phase separation after heat-treatment of the initial glass. The strong absorption band of glass-ceramics centered at 580 nm can be assigned to 4A2(4F)→4T1(4P) and the broad absorption band at 1100–1700 nm to 4A2(4F)→4T1(4F) transitions of tetrahedral coordinated Co2+ ion. Two broad emission bands, one was around 660 nm, the other was from 800 nm to 1050 nm, of glass-ceramics correspond to the 4T1(4P)→4A2(4F) and 4T1(4P)→4T2(4F) transitions of tetrahedral coordinated Co2+ ions. The absorption and emission features clearly demonstrated that Co2+ ions were incorporated into nanocrystals and located in tetrahedral sites.  相似文献

Various fluoride, phosphate and borosilicate glasses with known properties and global structure have been doped with Dy3+ (4f9) and Sm3+ (4f5) between 1018 and 1021 cm?3 and their time resolved fluorescence in the visible range in combination with characteristic physical properties were studied. Different fit procedures were carried out. Although both ions differ in their intrinsic fluorescence lifetime, with 1.5 ms for Dy3+ and 6.5 ms for Sm3+, their dependence on glass matrix is remarkable similar. Fluoroaluminate glasses with varying phosphate content between 0 and 20 mol% (FPx), a pure phosphate glass (P100), and two borosilicate glasses with low (DURAN®-like) and high optical basicity (NBS1) were used for investigations. A strongly ionic surrounding by fluorine ligands, as in fluoroaluminate glass samples, provides the longest fluorescence lifetime. It decreases with increasing phosphate content by increasing oxygen surrounding and with increasing RE3+ doping. Large differences were detected in the two borosilicate glasses depending on their optical basicity mainly due to differences in the Na2O/B2O3 ratio. Duran-like samples with low Na2O content have shown phase separation with higher doping concentration. The RE3+ ions are accumulated in the borate-rich droplets. Surprisingly only very low concentration-quenching effects were observed. In the opposite of NBS1 samples with high Na2O content this generated extremely high quenching effect.  相似文献

ZnO–B2O3–P2O5 glasses formulated with Sb2O3 were investigated in the series 50ZnO–10B2O3–40P2O5 + xSb2O3 (x = 0–70 mol%). With increasing Sb2O3 content, the values of glass transition temperature decrease from 492 °C down to 394 °C. The dissolution rate of the glasses reveals a maximum for the glass with x = 15 mol% Sb2O3. Raman spectra with increasing Sb2O3 content reflect the depolymerisation of phosphate chains. Antimony at low Sb2O3 content forms individual SbO3 pyramids manifested in the Raman spectra by a broad vibrational band at ∼520–690 cm−1. In the glasses with a higher Sb2O3 content SbO3 units link into chains and clusters with Sb–O–Sb bridges manifested in the Raman spectra by a strong broad band at 380–520 cm−1. The 31P MAS NMR spectra with increasing Sb2O3 content reflect the depolymerisation of phosphate chains at low Sb2O3 content and only small changes in the PO4 coordination at a high Sb2O3 content. 11B MAS NMR spectra reveal a steady transformation of B(OP)4 units into B(OP)4−x(OSb)x units, accompanied by the transformation of BO4 into BO3 units with increasing Sb2O3 content.  相似文献
