The magnetic anisotropy of ferromagnetic (FM) Ni, Co, and Fe polycrystalline thin films grown on antiferromagnetic (AF) FeF(2)(110) epitaxial layers was studied, as a function of temperature, using ferromagnetic resonance. In addition to an in-plane anisotropy in the FM induced by fluctuations in the AF short-range order, a perpendicular (biquadratic) magnetic anisotropy, with an out-of-plane component, was found which increased with decreasing temperature above the AF Neél temperature (T(N) = 78.4 K). This is a surprising result given that the AF's uniaxial anisotropy axis was in the plane of the sample, but is consistent with prior experimental and theoretical work. The resonance linewidth had a strong dependence on the direction of the external magnetic field with respect to in-plane FeF(2) crystallographic directions, consistent with interface magnon scattering due to defect-induced demagnetizing fields. Below T(N), the exchange bias field H(E) measured via FMR for the Ni sample was in good agreement with H(E) determined from magnetization measurements if the perpendicular out-of-plane anisotropy was taken into account. A low field resonance line normally observed at H ≈ 0, associated with domain formation during magnetization in ferromagnets, coincided with the exchange bias field for T < T(N), indicating domain formation with the in-plane FM magnetization perpendicular to the AF easy axis. Thus, biquadratic FM-AF coupling is important at temperatures below and above T(N).  相似文献

200-nm-thick Ni films in an epitaxial Cu/Ni/Cu/Si(001) structure are expected to have an in-plane effective magnetic anisotropy. However, the in-plane remanence is only 42%, and magnetic force microscopy domain images suggest perpendicular magnetization. Quantitative magnetic force microscopy analysis can resolve the inconsistencies and show that (i) the films have perpendicular domains capped by closure domains with magnetization canted at 51 degrees from the film normal, (ii) the magnetization in the Bloch domain walls between the perpendicular domains accounts for the low in-plane remanence, and (iii) the perpendicular magnetization process requires a short-range domain wall motion prior to wall-magnetization rotation and is nonhysteretic, whereas the in-plane magnetization requires long-range motion before domain-magnetization rotation and is hysteretic.  相似文献

Ferromagnetic Ni-Cu-Co and Ni-Fe-Co sandwiches were grown epitaxially onto a vicinal Cu(001) substrate and investigated using magneto-optical Kerr effect and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism techniques. We find that the atomic steps of the vicinal surface break the magnetic reversal symmetry to induce an exchange bias in the Ni perpendicular magnetic hysteresis loop. The Ni exchange bias direction can be switched by changing the direction of the in-plane Co magnetization. In addition, the exchange bias can be tailored by changing the Cu or Fe spacer layer thickness.

The paper reports a feasibility study of new type bit-patterned-media using a nano-patterned glassy alloy template for ultra-high density hard disk applications. The prototype bit-patterned-media was prepared using a nano-hole array pattern fabricated on a Pd-based glassy alloy thin film and a Co/Pd multilayered film filled in the nano-holes. The prepared prototype bit-patterned-media had a smooth surface and isolated Co/Pd multilayer magnetic dots, where the average dot diameter, the average dot pitch and the average dot height were 30, 60 and 19 nm, respectively. MFM (magnetic force microscope) observation revealed that each dot was magnetized in a perpendicular direction and the magnetization could reverse when an opposite magnetic field was applied. Static read/write tester measurements showed that repeated writing and reading on isolated magnetic dots were possible in combination with conventional magnetic heads and high-accuracy positioning technologies. The present study indicates that the new type of bit-patterned-media composed of nano-hole arrays fabricated on glassy alloy film template and Co/Pd multilayer magnetic dots are promising for applications to next generation ultra-high density hard disk drives.  相似文献

Multilayered films with artificial superstructures were prepared by alternately depositing Fe and Nd in ultrahigh vacuum. The magnetic properties are studied from57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. The hyperfine field in Fe layers and the direction of Fe magnetic moments depend on the Fe and Nd layer thicknesses. For films with certain Fe and Nd layer thicknesses, the direction of Fe magnetic moments is in-plane at 300 K but changes to be perpendicular at low temperatures. The direction of Fe magnetic moments is discussed in relation with the magnetization of interface Nd atoms.  相似文献

(100) Cu/Ni/Cu sandwich structures have been deposited on (100) Si using the (100) Cu epitaxially grown as the seed layer. The in-plane epitaxial relation between the metal films and Si allows the study of angular dependence of the magnetization for the field parallel to the film plane. Keeping the Cu layers at 1000 Å each and varying the Ni layers between 50 and 1000 Å, the magnetization along the [110] edge is larger than that along the [100] one. This is observed for both structures with a Ni thickness of 1000 and 500 Å, respectively. For the thinner Ni layers, the angular dependence is interfered by the reversal in magnetic anisotropy reported earlier. For such structures, a squared hysteresis loop is observed for the field perpendicular to the film plane, whereas one with little loop is observed for the in-plane magnetization. The angular dependence observed for the 1000 and 500 Å Ni films is the same as that of single crystal Ni. The (100) Cu/Ni/Cu films thus grown can be used for other magnetic measurements in the exploration of two-dimensional magnetism with controlled orientations.  相似文献

The magnetization process of Fe and Nd layers at 5K in Fe/Nd multilayered films with strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is elucidated from a comparison of57Fe Mössbauer spectra in the presence of the external field applied parallel to the film plane with total magnetization. At zero external field, the film has a magnetic multi-domain structure. The Nd layer moment is perpendicular to the film plane and the Fe layer moment points in the out-of-plane direction. The Fe layer moment monotonically rotates to the in-plane direction with increasing external field parallel to the film plane, while the Nd layer moment is oriented to the film normal direction up to the external field of 10kOe, above which the Nd layer moment gradually turns to the direction of the external field.  相似文献

The magnetization reversal behavior of a dot array consisting of Co/Pt multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was investigated. The size of the dots was varied from 200 nm down to 40 nm, while keeping the filling factor constant at about 0.16. The structural properties were determined by scanning electron microscopy, whereas the magnetic investigation was performed using SQUID and MFM techniques. It was observed that the dot size has a severe impact on the magnetization reversal mechanism where only the smallest dots with a size of 40 nm are found to be in a magnetic single-domain state. Moreover, the patterning process leads to a degradation of the multilayer, leading to a reduction of the switching field and an increase of the switching field distribution with decreasing dot size. In addition, micromagnetic simulations were performed to understand the magnetization reversal mechanism in more detail.  相似文献

The magnetic anisotropy in antiferromagnetic 500 A thick NiO films, before and after the establishment of an exchange bias field with Co84Fe16 ferromagnetic layers, was measured using magnetic linear dichroism in soft x-ray absorption. Both <111> textured NiO and untextured NiO films show exchange-bias induced in-plane magnetic anisotropy of nearly equal magnitude and with the Ni moment axis being nearly parallel to the exchange bias field direction. These results represent the first observation of the key step in the exchange biasing process, namely, repopulation of the antiferromagnetic domains whose magnetization axis is closest to the exchange bias field direction.  相似文献

The current-induced magnetic switching is studied in Co/Cu/Co nanopillar with an in-plane magnetization traversed under the perpendicular-to-plane external field.Magnetization switching is found to take place when the current density exceeds a threshold.By analyzing precessional trajectories, evolutions of domain walls and magnetization switching times under the perpendicular magnetic field, there are two different magnetization switching modes:nucleation and domain wall motion reversal;uniform magnetization ...  相似文献

An in-plane perpendicular magnetic coupling between Ni80Fe20 and Co has been found in NiFe/NiO/Co trilayers for a NiO thickness ranging from 4 to 25 nm by magneto-optical Kerr effect and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements. In the easy magnetization direction of the Co layer, the Co coercive field H(C) increases when the thickness of the NiO layer t(NiO) increases. Because of the coupling, H(C) is always larger than for NiO/Co bilayers with the same thicknesses. The saturation field of the NiFe layer H(S) decreases when t(NiO) increases, indicating a weakening of the coupling. Numerical simulations show that the presence of interface roughness combined with a small value of the NiO anisotropy can explain the observed 90 degrees coupling.  相似文献

The training effect and asymmetry in exchange-coupled polycrystalline CoO/Co bilayers with in-plane magnetization has been investigated. This system is selected for its large training effect and initial asymmetry of the magnetic hysteresis after field cooling, which is removed after training. Applying an in-plane magnetic field perpendicular to the cooling field largely restores the untrained state with its pronounced asymmetry. The possibility to reinduce the asymmetry strongly depends on the magnitude of the perpendicular field, providing the key to identify the physical origin of training and removal of the asymmetry. These effects result from misalignment between the ferromagnetic magnetization and the uncompensated magnetization of the granular antiferromagnet.  相似文献

In a circular dot of permalloy with an appropriate size, a vortex structure with perpendicular (turned-up) magnetization at the core is realized. The existence of the perpendicular magnetization spot has been confirmed and the direction of the magnetization, up or down, has been determined by magnetic force microscopy (MFM) for permalloy dots with the diameter of 0.1–1 μm. The switching field of turned-up magnetization is determined by applying external fields perpendicularly and in tilted directions to the plane. By comparing the MFM results and the magnetization curves measured by a SQUID magnetometer, the switching process of turned-up magnetization is argued.  相似文献

Thin ferromagnetic films with in-plane magnetic anisotropy are promising materials for obtaining high microwave permeability. The paper reports a Mo¨ssbauer study of the field induced in-plane uniaxial anisotropy in electro-deposited FeCo alloy films. The FeCo alloy films were prepared by the electro-deposition method with and without an external magnetic field applied parallel to the film plane during deposition.Vibrating sample magnetometry and Mo¨ssbauer spectroscopy measurements at room temperature indicate that the film deposited in external field shows an in-plane uniaxial anisotropy with an easy direction coinciding with the external field direction and a hard direction perpendicular to the field direction, whereas the film deposited without external field does not show any in-plane anisotropy.Mo¨ssbauer spectra taken in three geometric arrangements show that the magnetic moments are almost constrained in the film plane for the film deposited with applied magnetic field. Also, the magnetic moments tend to align in the direction of the applied external magnetic field during deposition, indicating that the observed anisotropy should be attributed to directional ordering of atomic pairs.  相似文献

We have addressed the specific heat and magnetization of an anisotropic spin-1/2 triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnet Cs2CuCl4 in the presence of magnetic field at finite temperature. We have investigated the behavior of thermodynamic properties by means of excitation spectrum in terms of a hard core bosonic representation. The effect of in-plane anisotropy on thermodynamic properties has also been studied via the bosonic model by Green’s function approach. This anisotropy is considered for exchange constants that couple spin components perpendicular to magnetic field direction. We have found the temperature dependence of the specific heat and longitudinal magnetization in the gapped field induced spin-polarized phase for various magnetic fields and anisotropy parameters. Furthermore we have studied the magnetic field dependence of specific heat and magnetization for various anisotropy parameters. Our results show temperature dependence of specific heat includes a peak so that its temperature position goes to higher temperature with increase of magnetic field. We have found the magnetic field dependence of specific heat shows a monotonic decreasing behavior for various magnetic fields due to increase of energy gap in the excitation spectrum.  相似文献

The influence of Tb25Fe61Co14 thin film thicknesses varying from 2 to 300 nm on the structural and magnetic properties has been systematically investigated by using of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, magnetization, and magneto-optic Kerr effect microscopy measurements. Thin film growth mechanism is pursued and controlled by ex-situ X-ray refractometry measurements. X-ray diffraction studies reveal that the Tb25Fe61Co14 films are amorphous regardless of thin films thicknesses. The magnetic properties are found to be strongly related to thickness and preferred orientation. With an increase in film thickness, the easy axis of magnetization is reversed from in-plane to out-of-plane direction. The change in the easy axes direction also affects the remanence, coercivity and magnetic anisotropy values. The cause for the magnetic anisotropy direction change from in-plane to out-of-plane can be related to the preferred orientation of the thin film which depends on the large out-of-plane coercivity and plays an important role in deciding the easy axes direction of the films. According to our results, up to the 100 nm in-plane direction is dominated over the whole system under major Fe-Fe interaction region, after that point, the magnetic anisotropy direction change to the out-of-plane under major Tb-Fe/Tb-Co interaction region and preferred orientation dependent perpendicular magnetic anisotropic properties become more dominated with 2.7 kOe high coercive field values.  相似文献

In experiments on single-domain magnetic films with uniaxial in-plane anisotropy, a new homogeneous ferromagnetic resonance peak was observed in a planar magnetic field oriented at an angle to the easy magnetization axis and directed opposite to the magnetization projection onto the field direction. The peak was observed in fields smaller than the magnetization reversal field of the film, and the origin of the peak was found to be related to the metastable state of the magnetic moment. A good agreement was obtained between phenomenological calculations and experimental data.  相似文献

Using Ginzburg-Landau theory, we find novel configurations of vortices in superconducting thin films subject to the magnetic field of a magnetic dot array, with dipole moments oriented perpendicular to the film. Sufficiently strong magnets cause the formation of vortex-antivortex pairs. In most cases, the vortices are confined to dot regions, while the antivortices can form a rich variety of lattice states. We propose an experiment in which the perpendicular component of the dot dipole moments can be tuned using an in-plane magnetic field. We show that in such an experiment the vortex-antivortex pair density shows broad plateaus as a function of the dipole strength. Many of the plateaus correspond to vortex configurations that break dot lattice symmetries. In some of these states, the vortex cores are strongly distorted. Possible experimental consequences are mentioned.  相似文献
