Steady state two-dimensional mixed convection in a lid-driven square cavity filled with Cu  –water nanofluid is investigated numerically in the presence of internal heat generation. In the present investigation, bottom wall is uniformly and non-uniformly heated while two vertical walls are fixed and they are thermally insulated. The top wall is moving from left to right at a constant speed. The governing equations are normalized and solved numerically with boundary conditions by finite volume approach using third order accurate upwinding scheme (deferred QUICK). Effects of the pertinent physical parameters are investigated in terms of the flow and temperature fields, as well as Nusselt number distributions. The presented results show that the solid volume fraction plays a significant role on the flow and thermal fields and the Nusselt number distributions for different flow configurations. It is found that Richardson number strongly affect the fluid flow and heat transfer in the cavity. For Ri<1Ri<1, the forced convection becomes dominant in the entire cavity, the natural convection relatively weak.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of unsteady laminar two-dimensional boundary layer flow and heat transfer of an incompressible viscous fluid in the presence of thermal radiation, internal heat generation or absorption, and magnetic field over an exponentially stretching surface subjected to suction with an exponential temperature distribution is discussed numerically. The governing boundary layer equations are reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations. New numerical method using Mathematica has been used to solve such system after obtaining the missed initial conditions. Comparison of obtained numerical results is made with previously published results in some special cases, and found to be in a good agreement.  相似文献

In order to explore the capability of a solid–liquid phase change material (PCM) for cooling electronic or heat storage applications, melting of a PCM in a vertical rectangular enclosure was studied. Three protruding generating heat sources are attached on one of the vertical walls of the enclosure, and generating heat at a constant and uniform volumetric rate. The horizontal walls are adiabatic. The power generated in heat sources is dissipated in PCM (n-eicosane with the melting temperature, Tm = 36 °C) that filled the rectangular enclosure. The advantage of using PCM is that it is able to absorb high amount of heat generated by heat sources due to its relatively high energy density. To investigate the thermal behaviour and thermal performance of the proposed system, a mathematical model based on the mass, momentum and energy conservation equations was developed. The governing equations are next discretised using a control volume approach in a staggered mesh and a pressure correction equation method is employed for the pressure–velocity coupling. The PCM energy equation is solved using the enthalpy method. The solid regions (wall and heat sources) are treated as fluid regions with infinite viscosity and the thermal coupling between solid and fluid regions is taken into account using the harmonic mean of the thermal conductivity method. The dimensionless independent parameters that govern the thermal behaviour of the system were next identified. After validating the proposed mathematical model against experimental data, a numerical investigation was next conducted in order to examine the thermal behaviour of the system by analyzing the flow structure and the heat transfer during the melting process, for a given values of governing parameters.  相似文献

Hydromagnetic heat transfer by mixed convection along an inclined continuously stretching surface, with power-law variation in the surface temperature or heat flux, in the presence of Hall current and internal heat generation/absorption has been studied. The surface is considered to be permeable to allow fluid suction or blowing, and stretching with a surface velocity varied according to a power-law. Two cases of the temperature boundary conditions were considered at the surface. The governing equations have been transformed into non-similar partial differential equations which have been integrated by the forth-order Runge–Kutta method. The effect of Hall parameter, magnetic parameter, dimensionless blowing/suction parameter, space and temperature dependent internal heat generation/absorption parameters and buoyancy force parameters on the temperature, primary and secondary flow velocity have been studied parametrically. All parameters involved in the problem affect the flow and thermal distributions except the temperature-dependent internal heat generation/absorption in the case of prescribed heat flux (PHF). Numerical values of the local skin-friction and the local Nusselt numbers for various parametric conditions have been tabulated.  相似文献

The steady laminar boundary layer flow over a permeable flat plate in a uniform free stream, with the bottom surface of the plate is heated by convection from a hot fluid is considered. Similarity solutions for the flow and thermal fields are possible if the mass transpiration rate at the surface and the convective heat transfer from the hot fluid on the lower surface of the plate vary like x−1/2, where x is the distance from the leading edge of the solid surface. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into ordinary differential equations, before being solved numerically. The effects of the governing parameters on the flow and thermal fields are thoroughly examined and discussed.  相似文献

The paper describes the derivation of finite-element models of one-dimensional fluid flows with heat transfer in pipes, using the Galerkin/least-squares approach. The models are first derived for one-phase flows, and then extended to homogeneous two-phase flows. The resulting equations have then been embedded in the context of object-oriented system modelling; this allows one to combine the fluid flow model with a model for other phenomena such as heat transfer, as well as with models of other discrete components such as pumps or valves, to obtain complex models of heat exchangers. The models are then validated by simulating a typical heat exchanger plant.  相似文献

The analysis of convective flow and heat transfer of a viscous heat generating fluid past a uniformly moving, infinite, vertical, porous plate has been made systematically with a view to throw adequate light on the effects of the plate-motion and the presence of heat generation/absorption on the flow and heat transfer characteristics. The equations of conservation of momentum and energy which govern the flow and heat transfer of the said problem have been solved numerically by the method of Runge-Kutta-Gill. The numerical results thus obtained for the flow and heat transfer characteristics have revealed many an interesting behaviour, of the skin friction and the rate of heat transfer coefficient at the plate.  相似文献

The fully developed electrically conducting micropolar fluid flow and heat transfer along a semi-infinite vertical porous moving plate is studied including the effect of viscous heating and in the presence of a magnetic field applied transversely to the direction of the flow. The Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer model which includes the effects of boundary and inertia forces is employed. The differential equations governing the problem have been transformed by a similarity transformation into a system of non-dimensional differential equations which are solved numerically by element free Galerkin method. Profiles for velocity, microrotation and temperature are presented for a wide range of plate velocity, viscosity ratio, Darcy number, Forchhimer number, magnetic field parameter, heat absorption parameter and the micropolar parameter. The skin friction and Nusselt numbers at the plates are also shown graphically. The present problem has significant applications in chemical engineering, materials processing, solar porous wafer absorber systems and metallurgy.  相似文献

Heat and mass transfer effects in the three-dimensional mixed convection flow of a viscoelastic fluid with internal heat source/sink and chemical reaction have been investigated in the present work. The flow generation is because of an exponentially stretching surface. Magnetic field normal to the direction of flow is considered. Convective conditions at the surface are also encountered. Appropriate similarity transformations are utilized to reduce the boundary layer partial differential equations into the ordinary differential equations. The homotopy analysis method is used to develop the solution expressions. Impacts of different controlling parameters such as ratio parameter, Hartman number, internal heat source/sink, chemical reaction, mixed convection, concentration buoyancy parameter and Biot numbers on the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are analyzed. The local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are sketched and examined.  相似文献

The group theoretic method is applied for solving problem of the flow of an elastico-viscous liquid past an infinite flat plate in the presence of a magnetic field normal to the plate. The application of one-parameter transformation group reduces the number of independent variables, by one, and consequently the system of governing partial differential equations with boundary conditions reduces to a system of ordinary differential equations with appropriate corresponding conditions. Numerical solution of the velocity field and heat transfer have been obtained. The effect of the magnetic parameter M on velocity field, shear stress, temperature fields and heat transfer has been discussed.  相似文献

This article presents a numerical solution for the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) non-Newtonian power-law fluid flow over a semi-infinite non-isothermal stretching sheet with internal heat generation/absorption. The flow is caused by linear stretching of a sheet from an impermeable wall. Thermal conductivity is assumed to vary linearly with temperature. The governing partial differential equations of momentum and energy are converted into ordinary differential equations by using a classical similarity transformation along with appropriate boundary conditions. The intricate coupled non-linear boundary value problem has been solved by Keller box method. It is important to note that the momentum and thermal boundary layer thickness decrease with increase in the power-law index in presence/absence of variable thermal conductivity.  相似文献

The onset of laminar axisymmetric Rayleigh–Bénard convection is investigated analytically for fluid in a cylindrical container. All surfaces are considered to be solid and no-slip for the flow, whereas for the thermal boundary conditions both a perfectly conducting and an insulated side wall are considered. The governing Boussinesq equations are perturbed and an approximate solenoidal flow field and a temperature field are determined, using the assumption of separation of variables. Subsequently, a Chebysev–Galerkin spectral method is employed to reduce the equations to a system of first-order nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The approximate representation of the flow and temperature fields make it possible to perform the calculations analytically. The first critical Rayleigh number (Racr) is then calculated using local stability analysis. The resulting value of Racr compares favorably with previous numerical and experimental studies. The analytical solution presented here allows for deeper insights into the physics of this extensively studied problem to be identified.  相似文献

Steady, laminar boundary fluid flow which results from the non-linear stretching of a flat surface in a nanofluid has been investigated numerically. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The resulting non-linear governing equations with associated boundary conditions are solved using variational finite element method (FEM) with a local non-similar transformation. The influence of Brownian motion number (Nb), thermophoresis number (Nt), stretching parameter (n) and Lewis number (Le) on the temperature and nanoparticle concentration profiles are shown graphically. The impact of physical parameters on rate of heat transfer (−θ′(0)) and mass transfer (−?′(0)) is shown in tabulated form. Some of results have also been compared with explicit finite difference method (FDM). Excellent validation of the present numerical results has been achieved with the earlier nonlinearly stretching sheet problem of Cortell [16] for local Nusselt number without taking the effect of Brownian motion and thermophoresis.  相似文献

In some diseases there is a focal pattern of velocity in regions of bifurcation, and thus the dynamics of bifurcation has been investigated in this work. A computational model of blood flow through branching geometries has been used to investigate the influence of bifurcation on blood flow distribution. The flow analysis applies the time-dependent, three-dimensional, incompressible Navier–Stokes equations for Newtonian fluids. The governing equations of mass and momentum conservation were solved to calculate the pressure and velocity fields. Movement of blood flow from an arteriole to a venule via a capillary has been simulated using the volume of fluid (VOF) method. The proposed simulation method would be a useful tool in understanding the hydrodynamics of blood flow where the interaction between the RBC deformation and blood flow movement is important. Discrete particle simulation has been used to simulate the blood flow in a bifurcation with solid and fluid particles. The fluid particle method allows for modeling the plasma as a particle ensemble, where each particle represents a collective unit of fluid, which is defined by its mass, moment of inertia, and translational and angular momenta. These kinds of simulations open a new way for modeling the dynamics of complex, viscoelastic fluids at the micro-scale, where both liquid and solid phases are treated with discrete particles.  相似文献

In this paper, the steady incompressible flow of a fourth grade fluid down a vertical cylinder with variable viscosity and heat transfer analysis are considered. The governing equations of motion of fourth grade fluid in cylindrical coordinates have been derived. The complete analytic solutions of momentum and energy equations have been obtained by homotopy analysis method (HAM). The entropy generation number for two cases of viscosities namely (i) Reynold’s model and (ii) Vogel’s model have also been computed. The results are compared with the available finite difference and perturbation solutions of third grade fluid. At the end the pressure gradient for the fourth grade fluid has also been calculated.  相似文献

In this paper, heat and mass transfer analysis for boundary layer stagnation-point flow over a stretching sheet in a porous medium saturated by a nanofluid with internal heat generation/absorption and suction/blowing is investigated. The governing partial differential equation and auxiliary conditions are converted to ordinary differential equations with the corresponding auxiliary conditions via Lie group analysis. The boundary layer temperature, concentration and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles are then determined numerically. The influences of various relevant parameters, namely, thermophoresis parameter Nt, Brownian motion parameter Nb, Lewis number Le, suction/injection parameter S, permeability parameter k1, source/sink parameter λ and Prandtl parameter Pr on temperature and concentration as well as wall heat flux and wall mass flux are discussed. Comparison with published results is presented.  相似文献

This paper deals with the numerical simulation of the fluid flow in coolant ducts as wall as the calculation of temperature field in fluid and solid of a friction clutch. The simulations are carried out by means of commercial software based on a finite volume method in a relative framework, where the fluid flow is not time dependent. The results in dependence of rotation speed and slip velocity show interesting secondary flow in the ducts. Different flow pattern have distinct influence on the temperature field and the heat transfer. (© 2008 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

The propagation of shock waves in a rotational axisymmetric dusty gas with heat conduction and radiation heat flux, which has a variable azimuthally fluid velocity together with a variable axial fluid velocity, is investigated. The dusty gas is assumed to be a mixture of non-ideal (or perfect) gas and small solid particles, in which solid particles are continuously distributed. It is assumed that the equilibrium flow-condition is maintained and variable energy input is continuously supplied by the piston (or inner expanding surface). The fluid velocities in the ambient medium are assume to be vary and obey power laws. The density of the ambient medium is assumed to be constant, the heat conduction is express in terms of Fourier’s law and the radiation is considered to be of the diffusion type for an optically thick grey gas model. The thermal conductivity K and the absorption coefficient αR are assumed to vary with temperature and density. In order to obtain the similarity solutions the angular velocity of the ambient medium is assume to be decreasing as the distance from the axis increases. The effects of the variation of the heat transfer parameter and non-idealness of the gas in the mixture are investigated. The effects of an increase in (i) the mass concentration of solid particles in the mixture and (ii) the ratio of the density of solid particles to the initial density of the gas on the flow variables are also investigated.  相似文献

The laminar flow and heat transfer of an incompressible, third grade, electrically conducting fluid impinging normal to a plane in the presence of a uniform magnetic field is investigated. The heat transfer analysis has been carried out for two heating processes, namely, (i) with prescribed surface temperature (PST-case) and (ii) prescribed surface heat flux (PHF-case). By means of the similarity transformation, the governing non-linear partial differential equations are reduced to a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations and are solved by a second-order numerical technique. Effects of various non-Newtonian fluid parameters, magnetic parameter, Prandtl number on the velocity and temperature fields have been investigated in detail and shown graphically. It is found that the velocity gradient at the wall decreases as the third grade fluid parameter increases.  相似文献
