Five new thermally robust electroluminescent fluorene‐based conjugated copolymers, including poly[2,7‐(9,9‐dioctylfluorene)‐co‐4,7‐{5,6‐bis(3,7‐dimethyloctyloxymethyl)‐2,1,3‐(benzothiadiazole)}] ( PFO‐P2C10BT ) were synthesized and used to fabricate the efficient polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). The glass transition temperatures of the polymers were found to be higher than that of poly(9,9‐dialkylfluorenes) and are in the range 113–165 °C. We fabricated PLEDs in indium‐tin oxide/PEDOT/light‐emitting polymer/cathode configurations using either double‐layer LiF/Al or triple‐layer Alq3/LiF/Al cathode structures. The new copolymers were found to have emission colors that vary from greenish blue (491 nm) to green (543 nm) depending on the copolymer composition. The maximum brightness and luminance efficiency of these PLEDs were found to be up to 5347 cd/m2 and 1.51 cd/A at 10 V, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New series of hyperbranched polyfluorenes containing triarylpyrazoline cores, PFZ10 , PFZ20 , PFNZ10 , and PFNZ20 , have been synthesized according to the “A2 + A′2 + B3” Suzuki coupling method. The structures and property of the monomers and conjugated polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, gel permeation chromatography, cyclic voltammetry, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and UV–visible absorption, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and photoluminescence spectroscopies. All these polymers exhibited good solubility in common organic solvents and good thermal stability. The long‐wavelength emission of polyfluorenes had been effectively reduced in these hyperbranched polymers. Standard polymer light emitting devices (PLEDs) from PFZ10 , PFZ20 , PFNZ10 , and PFNZ20 , with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT/polymer/TPBI/Alq3/Mg:Ag, exhibited good electroluminescence (EL) properties The PLED based on PFNZ10 emitted pure blue light with a low turn‐on voltage of 5.3 V and a high EL efficiency of about 1.93%. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To fully exploit the properties of light‐emitting polymers (LEPs) in electroluminescent applications, it is of paramount importance to develop efficient electrical contacts. An ideal electrode is highly conductive, stable, provides a low barrier to carrier injection, and does not degrade the LEP upon contact. It is difficult to find a single homogeneous material that satisfies all of these requirements. Hence, contact optimization has often required the development of multilayer structures. In particular, indium tin oxide covered by a film of poly(ethylene‐dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonic acid) {ITO/PEDOT:PSS} has become a favorite combination for the transparent anode, and heterostructures of LiF and CsF with metals (Al and Ca) have proven to be efficient electron‐injecting contacts. Here we review our progress in the understanding of the operation of light‐emitting diodes incorporating such contacts, in particular by gauging the materials' energy‐level lineup via electroabsorption measurements. Among the series of LEDs investigated, using a high‐energy‐gap blue polyfuorene polymer, CsF/Ca/Al and LiF/Ca/Al electrodes lead to the best improvements in electron injection. The most promising performance for applications, where a high luminance (~1600 cd/m2 at 5 V) is also accompanied by a high maximum efficiency (~3 lm/W), was obtained with LiF/Ca/Al cathodes and ITO/PEDOT:PSS anodes. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel phenothiazine‐based polymer was synthesized through the Heck reaction of 3,7‐divinyl‐N‐octyl‐phenothiazine with 4,7‐dibromo‐2‐octylbenzotriazole according to the alternating donor–acceptor strategy. The polymer was characterized with 1H NMR, infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, cyclic voltammetry, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. With the polymer used as an active layer, three nondoped polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) with a double‐layer configuration were fabricated by the spin‐coating approach with different thermal annealing processes. The emission maximum in electroluminescent spectra was stabilized at 616 nm. The maximum luminance reached 2432 cd/m2. The coordinate value of Commission International de l'Eclairage 1931 in the double‐layer PLEDs after the thermal treatment was nearly stabilized at (x, y) =(0.62, 0.38). Additionally, the luminous efficiency of device II reached a balanceable state with an increase in the current. Therefore, the polymer had an orange‐red emission with stable chromaticity coordinates under different driving voltages. Finally, a nondoped device with a stable luminous efficiency and chromaticity was obtained. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 4867–4878, 2007  相似文献

Two PPV‐based bipolar polymers containing 1,3,4‐oxadiazole pendant groups were synthesized via the Gilch polymerization reaction for use in light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). The resulting polymers were characterized using 1H and 13C NMR, elemental analysis, DSC, and TGA. These polymers were found to be soluble in common organic solvents and are easily spin‐coated onto glass substrates, producing high optical quality thin films without defects. The electro‐optical properties of ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al devices based on these polymers were investigated using UV‐visible, PL, and EL spectroscopy. The turn‐on voltages of the OC1Oxa‐PPV and OC10Oxa‐PPV devices were found to be 8.0 V. The maximum brightness and luminescence efficiency of the OC1Oxa‐PPV device were found to be 544 cd/m2 at 19 V and 0.15 cd/A, respectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report a comparative study of two organic soluble, vinylene‐based, alternating donor–acceptor copolymers with 1,4‐(2,5‐dihexadecyloxyphenylene) as the donor; the acceptor is either a 2,5‐linked pyridine or a 5,8‐linked 2,3‐diphenylpyrido[3,4‐b]pyrazine. The polymers are synthesized via a Heck coupling methodology from a dihalo monomer and a divinyl monomer to yield number‐average molecular weights of 16,000 g/mol for the pyridine polymer (PPyrPV) and 6500 g/mol for the pyridopyrazine polymer (PPyrPyrPV), with high solubility in common chlorinated solvents and lower solubility in less polar solvents (e.g., tetrahydrofuran). Thin‐film measurements show band gaps of 2.2 and 1.8 eV for PPyrPV and PPyrPyrPV, respectively. Both polymers exhibit photoluminescence in solution and in the solid state and exhibit electroluminescence when incorporated into light‐emitting diodes. In this case, a broad red emission centered at 690 nm for PPyrPV and a near‐infrared emission centered at 800 nm for PPyrPyrPV have been observed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel conjugated polyfluorene copolymers, poly[9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl‐co‐(2,5‐bis(4′‐diphenylaminostyryl)‐phenylene‐1,4‐diyl)]s (PGs), have been synthesized by nickel(0)‐mediated polymerization from 2,7‐dibromo‐9,9‐dihexylfluorene and 1,4′‐dibromo‐2,5‐bis(4‐diphenylaminostyryl)benzene with various molar ratios of the monomers. Because of the incorporation of triphenylamine (TPA) moieties, PGs exhibit much higher HOMO levels than the corresponding polyfluorene homopolymers and are able to facilitate hole injection into the polymer layer from the anode electrode in light‐emitting diodes. Conventional polymeric light‐emitting devices with the configuration ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/Ca/Al have been fabricated. A light‐emitting device produced with one of the PG copolymers (PG10) as the emitting layer exhibited a voltage‐independent and stable bluish‐green emission with color coordinates of (0.22, 0.42) at 5 V. The maximum brightness and current efficiency of the PG10 device were 3370 cd/m2 (at 9.6 V) and 0.6 cd/A, respectively. To realize a white polymeric light‐emitting diode, PG10 as the host material was blended with 1.0 wt % of a red‐light‐emitting polymer, poly[9,9‐dioctylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl‐alt‐2,5‐bis(2‐thienyl‐2‐cyanovinyl)‐1‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐4‐methoxybenzene‐5′,5′‐diyl] (PFR4‐S), and poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] (MEH‐PPV). The device based on PG10:PFR4‐S showed an almost perfect pure white electroluminescence emission, with Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.33, 0.36) at 8 V; for the PG10:MEH‐PPV device, the CIE coordinates at this voltage were (0.30, 0.40) with a maximum brightness of 1930 cd/m2. Moreover, the white‐light emission from the PG10:PFR4‐S device was stable even at different driving voltages and had CIE coordinates of (0.34, 0.36) at 6 V and (0.31, 0.35) at 10 V. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Fabrication of polymer light‐emitting diodes based on emission from the phosphorescent molecule fac‐tris(2‐phenylpyridine) iridium doped into a poly(N‐vinyl carbazole) host are reported. For single‐layered devices with magnesium‐silver cathodes, the luminance efficiency at 20 mA/cm2 was measured as 8.7 cd/A. This efficiency could be increased by over a factor of two by incorporation of evaporated small‐molecule layers into the device structure. Significant increases in device efficiency were also obtained without these evaporated layers by modification of the electrodes. Incorporation of 3,4‐poly(ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) at the anode improved the device efficiency but had little impact on drive voltage. Insertion of lithium fluoride at the cathode resulted in no improvement in performance for magnesium‐silver and aluminum cathodes, but a significant improvement was realized in efficiency and drive voltage for calcium‐aluminum cathodes. Excellent device performance was observed for all three cathode metals used in conjunction with cesium fluoride. Through optimization of the electrodes and emitter‐layer thickness, devices exhibiting efficiencies as high as 37.3 cd/A are realized. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Conjugated polymers containing electron‐transporting, hole‐transporting, and blue light‐emitting units were synthesized by Suzuki polycondensation. These copolymers exhibited excellent thermal and optical stability. Optical investigation indicated that the incorporation of the spirobifluorene units in the polymer main chain could markedly increase the effective conjugation length of polymers. Electrochemical studies showed that the incorporation of spirobifluorene unit could raise the electrochemical stability and improve the electron‐ and hole‐injecting abilities. The electroluminescent results also showed that the introducing of spirobifluorene units could significantly improve the device performance. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Light‐emitting diodes based on organic materials [organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs)] have attracted much interest over the past decade. Several different attempts have been made to realize multicolor OLEDs. This article describes a new approach based on energy transfer in a donor/acceptor system. A copolymer containing both donor and acceptor compounds as comonomer units is prepared. The polymer consists of a derivative of a luminescent dye [4‐dicyanmethylene‐2‐methyl‐6‐4H‐pyran (DCM); acceptor compound], which is copolymerized with fluorene (donor compound) to combine the properties of an electroactive polymer with a highly luminescent dye. Photochemical processing is achieved by UV irradiation of this copolymer in the presence of gaseous trialkylsilanes. This reagent selectively saturates the C?C bonds in the DCM comonomer units while leaving the fluorene units essentially unaffected. As a result of the photochemical process, the red electroluminescence of the acceptor compound vanishes, and the blue‐green electroluminescence from the polyfluorene units is recovered. Compared with previous approaches based on polymer blends, this copolymer approach avoids problems associated with phase‐separation phenomena in the active layer of OLEDs. © 2006Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two orange phosphorescent iridium complex monomers, 9‐hexyl‐9‐(iridium (III)bis(2‐(4′‐fluorophenyl)‐4‐phenylquinoline‐N,C2′)(tetradecanedionate‐11,13))‐2,7‐dibromofluorene (Br‐PIr) and 9‐hexyl‐9‐(iridium(III)bis(2‐(4′‐fluorophenyl)‐4‐methylquinoline‐N,C2′)(tetradecanedionate‐11,13))‐2,7‐dibromofluorene (Br‐MIr), were successfully synthesized. The Suzuki polycondensation of 2,7‐bis(trimethylene boronate)‐9,9‐dioctylfluorene with 2,7‐dibromo‐9,9‐dioctylfluorene and Br‐PIr or Br‐MIr afforded two series of copolymers, PIrPFs and MIrPFs, in good yields, in which the concentrations of the phosphorescent moieties were kept small (0.5–3 mol % feed ratio) to realize incomplete energy transfer. The photoluminescence (PL) of the copolymers showed blue‐ and orange‐emission peaks. A white‐light‐emitting diode with a configuration of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)/PIr05PF (0.5 mol % feed ratio of Br‐PIr)/Ca/Al exhibited a luminous efficiency of 4.49 cd/A and a power efficiency of 2.35 lm/W at 6.0 V with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.46, 0.33). The CIE coordinates were improved to (0.34, 0.33) when copolymer MIr10PF (1.0 mol % feed ratio of Br‐MIr) was employed as the white‐emissive layer. The strong orange emission in the electroluminescence spectra in comparison with PL for these kinds of polymers was attributed to the additional contribution of charge trapping in the phosphorescent dopants. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article concerns the hydrosilylation polyaddition of 1,4‐bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene ( 1 ) with 4,4′‐diethynylbiphenyl, 2,7‐diethynylfluorene ( 2b ), and 2,6‐diethynylnaphthalene with RhI(PPh3)3 catalyst. Trans‐rich polymers with weight‐average molecular weights (Mw's) ranging from 19,000 to 25,000 were obtained by polyaddition in o‐Cl2C6H4 at 150–180 °C, whereas cis‐rich polymers with Mw's from 4300 to 34,000 were obtained in toluene at 0 °C–r.t. These polymers emitted blue light in 4–81% quantum yields. The cis polymers isomerized into trans polymers upon UV irradiation, whereas the trans polymers did not. The device having a layer of polymer trans‐ 3b obtained from 1 and 2b demonstrated electroluminescence without any dopant. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. During the last decade, light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) have replaced incandescent, fluorescent, and neon lamps due to their ability to produce high luminosity at low currents and voltages. LEDs are currently encapsulated by thermally curable epoxy resins. However, long periods of curing at high temperature result in high consumption of energy and require stringent process control to avoid failure of the devices. In addition, the thermal cure results in yellowing of the encapsulant, which decreases the efficiency of the LED. In recent years, photoinitiated polymerization has received much interest as it congregates a wide range of economic and ecological benefits. Cationic photoinitiators, such as diaryliodonium salts, generate Brønsted acid in situ, which initiates polymerization. The process can be triggered on demand by irradiating the mixture with light. Results from the present research reveal that cycloaliphatic epoxy monomers, photoactivated with an iodonium salt and Camphorquinone, polymerize readily under visible light irradiation (470 nm) in the absence of external heating. The partial replacement of cycloaliphatic epoxy with aromatic diglycidyl ether of bisphenol‐A (DGEBA) is an effective means of improving the refractive index of the material and consequently the efficiency of the photoemission. Visible light polymerization of DGEBA pure proceeds at a slow rate; however, it is enhanced by the increase in temperature during the polymerization of the highly reactive cycloaliphatic monomer. From results obtained in the present research, it may be concluded that visible light polymerization of epoxy monomers is a promising route for the processing of LED encapsulants. Deep blue emitting copolymers were synthesized by uniting the Eumelanin‐inspired indole core with fluorene and carbazole units via Suzuki polymerization. The resulting polymers, PIF and PIC, showed deep blue emission in the range of 416–418 nm and quantum yields of 0.39–0.60. Both polymers exhibited an intense and stable electrogenerated chemiluminescence. Interestingly, deep HOMO levels of −5.71 and −5.61 eV were observed for PIF and PIC, respectively. Solution processed polymer light emitting diodes (PLEDs) were fabricated using the PIF as a guest. PLEDs emitted deep blue light at 418 nm, with the luminous efficiency peaking at 1 Cd/A, given that the photopic response at that wavelength is 0.0151. The electroluminescence of PIF displayed a Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage coordinates of (0.16, 0.07) with a maximum external quantum efficiency of 1.1%. Hence, these materials prove to be promising candidates for the fabrication of deep blue PLEDs. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2018 , 56, 125–131  相似文献

Two series of new copolyfluorenes ( PFTP, PFTT ) were prepared by the Suzuki coupling reaction from two green‐emitting dibromo monomers (TP‐Br, TT‐Br) based on triphenylamine unit to be applied in white light electroluminescent devices. They were characterized by molecular weight determination, elemental analysis, DSC, TGA, absorption and photoluminescence spectra, and cyclic voltammetry. The estimated actual contents of the TP and TT chromophores were lower than 7.8 mol % and 1.9 mol % for PFTP and PFTT , respectively. In film state both copolyfluorenes showed photoluminescence at 400–470 and 470–600 nm originated from fluorene segments and the chromophores, respectively, due to incomplete energy transfer. Light‐emitting diodes with a structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/copolymer/Ca(50 nm)/Al(100 nm) showed major emission at 493–525 nm, plus minor emission at 400–470 nm when chromophore contents were low. The maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency of PFTP2 device were 8370 cd/m2 and 1.47 cd/A, whereas those of PFTT1 device were 9440 cd/m2 and 1.77 cd/A, respectively. Tri‐wavelength white‐light emission was realized through blending PFTT1 with poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene) and a red‐emitting iridium complex, in which the maximum brightness and CIE coordinates were 6880 cd/m2 and (0.31, 0.33), respectively. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four copolyfluorenes chemically doped with 0.1 and 1 mol % 3,7‐bis[2‐thiophene‐2‐yl)‐2‐cyanovinyl]phenothiazine ( PFPhT ) or 2,5‐bis[2‐(thiophene‐2‐yl)‐2‐cyanovinyl]thiophene chromophores ( PFThT ) were synthesized using the Suzuki coupling reaction and applied in white‐light‐emitting devices. They were characterized by GPC, elemental analysis, DSC, TGA, optical spectra, and cyclic voltammetry. They exhibited good thermal stability (Td > 420 °C) and moderate glass transition temperatures (>95 °C). The PhT‐Br and ThT‐Br showed PL peaks at 586 and 522 nm (with a shoulder at 550 nm). In film state, PL spectra of the copolymers comprised emissions from the fluorene segments and the chromophores due to incomplete energy transfer. Both monomers exhibited low LUMO levels around ?3.50 to ?3.59 eV, whereas the PhT‐Br owned the higher HOMO level (?5.16 eV) due to its electron‐donating phenothiazine core. Light‐emitting diodes with a structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/copolymer/Ca(50 nm)/Al(100 nm) showed broad emission depending on the chromophore contents. The maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency of PFPhT2 ( PFThT1 ) device were 8690 cd/m2 and 1.43 cd/A (7060 cd/m2 and 0.98 cd/A), respectively. White‐light emission was realized by further blending PFPhT2 with poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene) (w/w = 10/1), with the maximum brightness and maximum current efficiency being 10,600 cd/m2 and 1.85 cd/A. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel organic–inorganic hybrid polyfluorene derivatives, poly{(9,9′‐dioctyl‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐(9,9′‐di‐POSS‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐[2,5‐bis(octyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene]} (PFDOPPOSS) and poly{(9,9′‐dioctyl‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐(9,9′‐di‐POSS‐2,7‐fluorene)‐co‐bithiophene} (PFT2POSS), were synthesized by the Pd‐catalyzed Suzuki reaction of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) appended fluorene, dioctyl phenylene, and bithiophene moieties. The synthesized polymers were characterized with 1H NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Photoluminescence (PL) studies showed that the incorporation of the POSS pendant into the polyfluorene derivatives significantly enhanced the fluorescence quantum yields of the polymer films, likely via a reduction in the degree of interchain interaction as well as keto formation. Additionally, the blue‐light‐emitting polyfluorene derivative PFDOPPOSS showed high thermal color stability in PL. Moreover, single‐layer light‐emitting diode devices of an indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate)/polymer/Ca/Al configuration fabricated with PFDOPPOSS and PFT2POSS showed much improved brightness, maximum luminescence intensity, and quantum efficiency in comparison with devices fabricated with the corresponding pristine polymers PFDOP and PFT2. In particular, the maximum external quantum efficiency of PFT2POSS was 0.13%, which was twice that of PFT2 (0.06%), and the maximum current efficiency of PFT2POSS was 0.38 cd/A, which again was twice that of PFT2 (0.19 cd/A). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new regioregular head‐to‐tail (HT)‐type polypyridine with methoxyethoxyethoxy (MEEO) side chains, HT‐PMEEOPy, was synthesized by means of Kumada‐Tamao coupling polymerization of a Grignard monomer with a Ni catalyst. Although the polymer was precipitated in THF during polymerization, multiangle laser light scattering (MALLS) analysis indicated that the weight‐average molecular weight (Mw) was about 25,000. The HT content in the polymer was 95%. A solution of HT‐PMEEOPy in CHCl3 was found to emit a strong blue light when the solution was irradiated with UV light; the UV‐vis absorption maximum (λmax) and photoluminescence maximum (λmax em) were at 392 and 460 nm, respectively. To clarify the effect of regioregularity of PMEEOPy on the photoluminescence, head‐to‐head (HH) PMEEOPy was synthesized by means of Yamamoto coupling polymerization. The photoluminescence of HH‐PMEEOPy (λmax = 330 nm, λmax em = 414 nm) was weaker than that of HT‐PMEEOPy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Three generation of Boc‐protected dendritic‐conjugated polyfluorenes ( Boc‐PFP‐G0‐2 ) were synthesized by Suzuki coupling 1,4‐phenyldiboronic ester with dendritic monomers that were synthesized through generation‐by‐generation approach. The gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analyses showed that the weight‐average molecular weight (Mw) of Boc‐PFP‐G0‐2 was in the range of 11,400–20,400 Da with the polydispersity index (PDI) in the range of 1.32–1.96. Treatment of Boc‐protected polymers with 6 M HCl in dioxane yielded cationic dendritic‐conjugated polyfluorenes ( PFP‐G0‐2 ). They were soluble in common polar solvents such as DMSO, DMF, and water with absorption maxima between 345 and 379 nm. The solutions of PFP‐G0‐2 in water were highly fluorescent with emission maxima between 416 and 425 nm. Because higher generation dendrons could prevent the formation of π‐stacking aggregates of backbones of conjugated polymer, the fluorescence quantum efficiencies (QEs) of PFP‐G0‐2 enhance as the dendritic generation grew. The interactions between 25 mer double‐stranded DNA (dsDNA) and PFP‐G0‐2 were studied using ethidium bromide (EB) as fluorescent probe. The electrostatic bindings of PFP‐G0‐2 with dsDNA/EB complex result in displacement of EB from DNA double helix to the solution accompanying by a quenching of EB fluorescence. The PFP‐G2 with highest generation of dendritic side chains possessed a highest charge density and could form most stable complex with dsDNA. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To study the effect of nonconjugation on polymeric and photophysical properties of thiophene‐containing polymers, new light‐emitting copolymers comprising either alternate 2,5‐diphenylthiophene and vinylene or alternate 2,5‐diphenylthiophene and aliphatic ether segments were synthesized. Both copolymers contained 2,5‐diphenylthiophene as the major chromophore and emitted a sky bluish fluorescence in dilute solution (10?2 mg/mL). With a rigid and planarity structure and the concomitant crystallinity, the former copolymer (fully conjugated) possessed a higher quantum efficiency, a higher glass‐transition temperature, and a better thermal stability. In contrast, the latter copolymer (conjugated–nonconjugated) had better solubility and provided enhanced photophysical properties for the fabricated polymeric light‐emitting diode (PLED) device: at 15 V, the maximum current and brightness were 110 mA/cm2 and 4289 cd/m2, respectively, and the electroluminescence efficiency remained constant at approximately 4.9 cd/A in a voltage range of 8 to 14 V. The existence of intramolecular/intermolecular aggregates in the latter copolymer was corroborated from the the UV–vis and photoluminescence spectra of its solutions. With an increase in solution concentration, the shape and λmax of the photoluminescence spectrum were redshifted. In a solution with a concentration as high as 10 mg/mL, the redshift was so drastic that the photoluminescence spectrum was nearly identical to that of a solid‐film. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
