We fabricated high quality Nb/Al2O3/Ni(0.6)Cu(0.4)/Nb superconductor-insulator-ferromagnet-superconductor Josephson tunnel junctions. Using a ferromagnetic layer with a steplike thickness, we obtain a 0-pi junction, with equal lengths and critical currents of 0 and pi parts. The ground state of our 330 microm (1.3lambda(J)) long junction corresponds to a spontaneous vortex of supercurrent pinned at the 0-pi step and carrying approximately 6.7% of the magnetic flux quantum Phi(0). The dependence of the critical current on the applied magnetic field shows a clear minimum in the vicinity of zero field.  相似文献

We show that the dc Josephson current through superconductor-antiferromagnet-superconductor (S-AF-S) junctions manifests a remarkable atomic-scale dependence on the interlayer thickness. At low temperatures the junction is either a 0 or pi junction depending on whether the AF interlayer consists of an even or odd number of atomic layers. This is associated with different symmetries of the AF interlayers in the two cases. In the junction with odd AF interlayers an additional pi- 0 transition can take place as a function of temperature. This originates from the interplay of spin-split Andreev bound states. Experimental implications of these theoretical findings are discussed.  相似文献

The physics of the π phase shift in ferromagnetic Josephson junctions may enable a range of applications for spin-electronic devices and quantum computing. We investigate transitions from “0” to “π” states in Nb/Fe/Nb Josephson junctions by varying the Fe barrier thickness from 0.5 nm to 5.5 nm. From magnetic measurements we estimate for Fe a magnetic dead layer of about 1.1 nm. By fitting the characteristic voltage oscillations with existing theoretical models we extrapolate an exchange energy of 256 meV, a Fermi velocity of 1.98 ×105 m/s and an electron mean free path of 6.2 nm, in agreement with other reported values. From the temperature dependence of the ICRN product we show that its decay rate exhibits a nonmonotonic oscillatory behavior with the Fe barrier thickness.  相似文献

The ground state of highly damped PdNi based 0-pi ferromagnetic Josephson junctions shows a spontaneous half quantum vortex, sustained by a supercurrent of undetermined sign. This supercurrent flows in the electrode of a Josephson junction used as a detector and produces a phi(0)/4 shift in its magnetic diffraction pattern. We have measured the statistics of the positive or the negative sign shift occurring at the superconducting transition of such a junction. The randomness of the shift sign, the reproducibility of its magnitude, and the possibility of achieving exact flux compensation upon field cooling are the features which show that 0-pi junctions behave as classical spins, just as magnetic nanoparticles with uniaxial anisotropy.  相似文献

We examine the dynamics of sine-Gordon solitons in an inhomogeneous Josephson junction. Two types of inhomogeneity are worked out: (1) varying refractive index or dielectric constant, and (2) varying parameters in the nonlinear term. Simplified analytical explanations are also presented for the numerical results.  相似文献

We investigate spin transport in voltage-biased spin-active Josephson junctions. The interplay of spin filtering, spin mixing, and multiple Andreev reflection leads to nonlinear voltage dependence of the dc and ac spin current. We compute the voltage characteristics of the spin current (IS) for superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor Josephson junctions. The subharmonic gap structure of IS(V) is shown to be sensitive to the degree of spin mixing generated by the ferromagnetic interface, and exhibits a pronounced even-odd effect associated with spin transport during multiple Andreev reflection processes. For strong spin mixing both the magnitude and the direction of the dc spin current can be sensitively controlled by the bias voltage.  相似文献

The phase dynamics of the system of long Josephson junctions whose length exceeds the Josephson penetration depth has been studied. The possibility of the appearance of a longitudinal plasma wave and parametric resonance has been demonstrated. Both inductive and capacitive couplings between Josephson junctions have been taken into account in the calculations. The current-voltage characteristics, as well as time evolution of the spatial distribution of the electric charge in superconducting layers and the magnetic field, have been calculated in all Josephson junctions of the system. The coexistence of the longitudinal plasma wave and fluxon states has been observed in the region of parametric resonance beginning with a certain length of the Josephson junction. This indicates the appearance of a new unique collective excitation in the system of coupled Josephson junctions, namely, a composite state of the Josephson current, electric field, and vortex magnetic field.  相似文献

A possible definition of the specific heat of open quantum systems is based on the reduced partition function of the system. For a free damped quantum particle, it has been found that under certain conditions, this specific heat can become negative at low temperatures. In contrast to the conventional approaches focusing on the system degree of freedom, here we concentrate on the changes induced in the environment when the system is coupled to it. Our analysis is carried out for an Ohmic environment consisting of harmonic oscillators and allows to identify the mechanism by which the specific heat becomes negative. Furthermore, the formal condition for the occurrence of a negative specific heat is given a physical interpretation in terms of the total mass of bath oscillators and the system mass.  相似文献

We report measurements on lumped arrays of eight long Josephson junctions, series dc biased and coupled to a microwave transmission line. Fluxon oscillations in different junctions can be mutually locked and, concurrently, the power of the emitted radiation increases according to the conjecture of superradiance.  相似文献

We study the transient statistical properties of short and long Josephson junctions under the influence of thermal and correlated fluctuations. In particular, we investigate the lifetime of the superconductive metastable state finding the presence of noise induced phenomena. For short Josephson junctions we investigate the lifetime as a function both of the frequency of the current driving signal and the noise intensity and we find how these noise-induced effects are modified by the presence of a correlated noise source. For long Josephson junctions we integrate numerically the sine-Gordon equation calculating the lifetime as a function of the length of the junction both for inhomogeneous and homogeneous bias current distributions. We obtain a non-monotonic behavior of the lifetime as a function of the frequency of the current driving signal and the correlation time of the noise. Moreover we find two maxima in the non-monotonic behaviour of the mean escape time as a function of the correlated noise intensity.  相似文献

A 1-D array of Josephson coupled superconducting grains whose kinetic inductance dominates over the Josephson inductance is studied. We show that in this limit excess Cooper pairs in the array give rise to charge solitons via polarization of the grains. We analyze the dynamics of these macroscopic topological excitations, and find that their classical relativistic motion leads to saturation branches in the I-V characteristic of the array. When the dephasing length of the charge soliton is larger than the length of the array, we expect that it behaves quantum mechanically. We study the dynamics of quantum charge solitons in a ring-shaped array biased by an external flux, and show that they can exhibit phenomena like persistent current and coherent current oscillations.  相似文献

We study the dynamics of the Mott insulator-superfluid quantum phase transition in a periodic 1D array of Josephson junctions. We show that crossing the critical point at a finite rate with a quench time tau(Q) induces finite quantum fluctuations of the current around the loop proportional to tau(-1/6)(Q). This scaling could be experimentally verified with an array of weakly coupled Bose-Einstein condensates or superconducting grains.  相似文献
