Let be a Minkowski 3-space of Randers type with , where is the Euclidean metric and . We consider minimal surfaces in and prove that if a connected surface M in is minimal with respect to both the Busemann–Hausdorff volume form and the Holmes–Thompson volume form, then up to a parallel translation of , M is either a piece of plane or a piece of helicoid which is generated by lines screwing about the x 3-axis.   相似文献

In the present article, the author proves two generalizations of his “finiteness-result” (I.H.P. Anal. Non-lineaire, 2006, accepted) which states for any extreme simple closed polygon that every immersed, stable disc-type minimal surface spanning Γ is an isolated point of the set of all disc-type minimal surfaces spanning Γ w.r.t. the C 0-topology. First, it is proved that this statement holds true for any simple closed polygon in , provided it bounds only minimal surfaces without boundary branch points. Also requiring that the interior angles at the vertices of such a polygon Γ have to be different from the author proves the existence of some neighborhood O of Γ in and of some integer , depending only on Γ, such that the number of immersed, stable disc-type minimal surfaces spanning any simple closed polygon contained in O, with the same number of vertices as Γ, is bounded by .   相似文献

We explore the relationship between contact forms on defined by Finsler metrics on and the theory developed by H. Hofer, K. Wysocki and E. Zehnder (Hofer etal. Ann. Math. 148, 197–289, 1998; Ann. Math. 157, 125–255, 2003). We show that a Finsler metric on with curvature K ≥ 1 and with all geodesic loops of length > π is dynamically convex and hence it has either two or infinitely many closed geodesics. We also explain how to explicitly construct J-holomorphic embeddings of cylinders asymptotic to Reeb orbits of contact structures arising from Finsler metrics on with K = 1, thus complementing the results obtained in Harris and Wysocki (Trans. Am. Math. Soc., to appear).   相似文献

In this paper, we study the minimality of the map for the weighted energy functional , where is a continuous function. We prove that for any integer and any non-negative, non-decreasing continuous function f, the map minimizes E f,p among the maps in which coincide with on . The case p = 1 has been already studied in [Bourgoin J.-C. Calc. Var. (to appear)]. Then, we extend results of Hong (see Ann. Inst. Poincaré Anal. Non-linéaire 17: 35–46 (2000)). Indeed, under the same assumptions for the function f, we prove that in dimension n ≥  7 for any real with , the map minimizes E f,p among the maps in which coincide with on .   相似文献

Let K be a Lie group and P be a K-principal bundle on a manifold M. Suppose given furthermore a central extension of K. It is a classical question whether there exists a -principal bundle on M such that . Neeb (Commun. Algebra 34:991–1041, 2006) defines in this context a crossed module of topological Lie algebras whose cohomology class is an obstruction to the existence of . In the present article, we show that is up to torsion a full obstruction for this problem, and we clarify its relation to crossed modules of Lie algebroids and Lie groupoids, and finally to gerbes.   相似文献

Let (M, g, σ) be a compact Riemannian spin manifold of dimension ≥ 2. For any metric conformal to g, we denote by the first positive eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on . We show that
This inequality is a spinorial analogue of Aubin’s inequality, an important inequality in the solution of the Yamabe problem. The inequality is already known in the case n ≥ 3 and in the case n = 2, ker D = {0}. Our proof also works in the remaining case n = 2, ker D ≠ {0}. With the same method we also prove that any conformal class on a Riemann surface contains a metric with , where denotes the first positive eigenvalue of the Laplace operator.  相似文献

Let be an n-dimensional compact, possibly with boundary, submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional space form R n+p (c). Assume that r is even and , in this paper we introduce rth mean curvature function S r and (r + 1)-th mean curvature vector field . We call M to be an r-minimal submanifold if on M, we note that the concept of 0-minimal submanifold is the concept of minimal submanifold. In this paper, we define a functional of , by calculation of the first variational formula of J r we show that x is a critical point of J r if and only if x is r-minimal. Besides, we give many examples of r-minimal submanifolds in space forms. We calculate the second variational formula of J r and prove that there exists no compact without boundary stable r-minimal submanifold with in the unit sphere S n+p . When r = 0, noting S 0 = 1, our result reduces to Simons’ result: there exists no compact without boundary stable minimal submanifold in the unit sphere S n+p .   相似文献

It is well known that certain isotopy classes of oseudo-Anosov maos on a Riemann surface S of non-excluded type can be defined through Dehn twists tα and tβ along simple closed geodesics α and β on S,respectively. Let G be the corresponding Fuchsian group acting on the hyperbolic plane H so that H/G≌S.For any point α∈S,define S = S/{α}.In this article, the author gives explicit parabolic elements of G from which he constructs pseudo-Anosov classes on S that can be projected to a given pseudo-Anosov class on S obtained from Thurston's construction.  相似文献

A singular riemannian foliation on a complete riemannian manifold M is said to admit sections if each regular point of M is contained in a complete totally geodesic immersed submanifold Σ that meets every leaf of orthogonally and whose dimension is the codimension of the regular leaves of . We prove that the algebra of basic forms of M relative to is isomorphic to the algebra of those differential forms on Σ that are invariant under the generalized Weyl pseudogroup of Σ. This extends a result of Michor for polar actions. It follows from this result that the algebra of basic function is finitely generated if the sections are compact. We also prove that the leaves of coincide with the level sets of a transnormal map (generalization of isoparametric map) if M is simply connected, the sections are flat and the leaves of are compact. This result extends previous results due to Carter and West, Terng, and Heintze, Liu and Olmos. Marcos M. Alexandrino and Claudio Gorodski have been partially supported by FAPESP and CNPq.  相似文献

We prove a regularity result for critical points of the polyharmonic energy in with and p > 1. Our proof is based on a Gagliardo–Nirenberg-type estimate and avoids the moving frame technique. In view of the monotonicity formulae for stationary harmonic and biharmonic maps, we infer partial regularity in theses cases.  相似文献

We consider the following implicit quasi-variational inequality problem: given two topological vector spaces E and F, two nonempty sets X E and C F, two multifunctions Γ : X → 2 X and Ф : X → 2 C , and a single-valued map ψ : , find a pair such that , Ф and for all . We prove an existence theorem in the setting of Banach spaces where no continuity or monotonicity assumption is required on the multifunction Ф. Our result extends to non-compact and infinite-dimensional setting a previous results of the authors (Theorem 3.2 of Cubbiotti and Yao [15] Math. Methods Oper. Res. 46, 213–228 (1997)). It also extends to the above problem a recent existence result established for the explicit case (C = E * and ).  相似文献

Let A be an elliptic operator on a compact manifold with boundary , and let be a covering map, where Y is a closed manifold. Let A C be a realization of A subject to a coupling condition C that is elliptic with parameter in the sector Λ. By a coupling condition we mean a nonlocal boundary condition that respects the covering structure of the boundary. We prove that the resolvent trace for N sufficiently large has a complete asymptotic expansion as . In particular, the heat trace has a complete asymptotic expansion as , and the -function has a meromorphic extension to .   相似文献

The space of Riemannian metrics ${\mathfrak{Met}}MThe space of Riemannian metrics on an oriented compact manifold M of dimension n = 4k − 2 is endowed with a canonical presymplectic structure and a moment map [cf. Ferreiro Pérez and Mu?oz Masqué, Preprint (arXiv: math.DG/0507075)]. The fiber is characterized as the space of solutions to a differential equation. In dimension 2, the symplectic reduction of is analyzed and the construction presented here is compared with that introduced in Donaldson (Fields Medallists’ Lectures, 1997) and Fujiki (Sugaku Expositions 5(2):173–191, 1992). Finally, conformally flat metrics and, for n = 6, K?hler metrics of constant holomorphic sectional curvature are shown to be contained in .   相似文献

Given an isometric immersion of a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension n ≥ 3 into Euclidean space of dimension n + 1, we prove that the identity component Iso 0(M n ) of the isometry group Iso(M n ) of M n admits an orthogonal representation such that for every . If G is a closed connected subgroup of Iso(M n ) acting polarly on M n , we prove that Φ(G) acts polarly on , and we obtain that f(M n ) is given as Φ(G)(L), where L is a hypersurface of a section which is invariant under the Weyl group of the Φ(G)-action. We also find several sufficient conditions for such an f to be a rotation hypersurface. Finally, we show that compact Euclidean rotation hypersurfaces of dimension n ≥ 3 are characterized by their underlying warped product structure.   相似文献

Let V n be an open manifold of non-negative sectional curvature with a soul Σ of co-dimension two. The universal cover of the unit normal bundle N of the soul in such a manifold is isometric to the direct product M n-2 × R. In the study of the metric structure of V n an important role plays the vector field X which belongs to the projection of the vertical planes distribution of the Riemannian submersion on the factor M in this metric splitting . The case n = 4 was considered in [Gromoll, D., Tapp, K.: Geom. Dedicata 99, 127–136 (2003)] where the authors prove that X is a Killing vector field while the manifold V 4 is isometric to the quotient of by the flow along the corresponding Killing field. Following an approach of [Gromoll, D., Tapp, K.: Geom. Dedicata 99, 127–136 (2003)] we consider the next case n = 5 and obtain the same result under the assumption that the set of zeros of X is not empty. Under this assumption we prove that both M 3 and Σ3 admit an open-book decomposition with a bending which is a closed geodesic and pages which are totally geodesic two-spheres, the vector field X is Killing, while the whole manifold V 5 is isometric to the quotient of by the flow along corresponding Killing field. Let NM be a finite Jones’ index inclusion of II1 factors and denote by U N U M their unitary groups. In this article, we study the homogeneous space U M /U N , which is a (infinite dimensional) differentiable manifold, diffeomorphic to the orbit of the Jones projection of the inclusion. We endow with a Riemannian metric, by means of the trace on each tangent space. These are pre-Hilbert spaces (the tangent spaces are not complete); therefore, is a weak Riemannian manifold. We show that enjoys certain properties similar to classic Hilbert–Riemann manifolds. Among them are metric completeness of the geodesic distance, uniqueness of geodesics of the Levi-Civita connection as minimal curves, and partial results on the existence of minimal geodesics. For instance, around each point p 1 of , there is a ball (of uniform radius r) of the usual norm of M, such that any point p 2 in the ball is joined to p 1 by a unique geodesic, which is shorter than any other piecewise smooth curve lying inside this ball. We also give an intrinsic (algebraic) characterization of the directions of degeneracy of the submanifold inclusion , where the last set denotes the Grassmann manifold of the von Neumann algebra generated by M and .   相似文献

Given and any centrally symmetric convex polytope , define we prove that if a Radon measure μ has the property then s is an integer. For the case Θ is the Euclidean ball, this result was first proved by Marstrand in 1955 for Hausdorff measure in the plane (Marstrand in Proc Lond Math Soc 3(4):257–302, 1954) and later for general Radon measures in (Marstrand in Trans Am Math Soc 205:369–392, 1964).  相似文献
