A new phenomenon — intense luminescence of noncolored lithium fluoride (LiF) crystals excited by an electrodeless pulsed microwave discharge at the prebreakdown stage of development — is observed. This luminescence consists of the luminescence of short-lived aggregate F2 and F 3 + color centers at room temperature. It is shown that the density of short-lived color centers induced in the surface layer of LiF crystals by a microsecond microwave discharge reaches values of ∼1019−1020 cm−3. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. The emission properties of a plasma cathode based on a nanosecond pulsed glow discharge with currents of up to 200A at a pressure of 5×10−2 Pa are studied experimentally. Stable ignition and burning of the discharge are ensured if the current in the auxiliary pulsed discharge is 25–30% of that in the main discharge and its pulse duration exceeds that of the main discharge by more than an order of magnitude. Emission current pulses from the cathode with amplitudes of up to 140A fully reproduce the discharge current and are determined by the transparency of the grid anode. Zh. Tekh. A discharge system is proposed in which an auxiliary gas discharge is used to inject electrons into the cathode cavity of a hollow-cathode glow discharge. A study is made of the region of stable existence of a non-self-sustaining hollow-cathode discharge. It is shown that the injection of electrons permits a reduction to <10−2 Pa in the minimum pressure at which a discharge can exist. The radial expansion velocities and diameters of spark channels in air are measured by the plasma-metal contact method. An LC discharge circuit with energy up to 50 kJ and with current frequencies ranging from ∼102 to ∼104 Hz served as the source of the channels. It is concluded on the basis of the results obtained that the previously proposed automatic plasma crowbar based on the expansion of spark channels in gases is a universal switch for an inductive load in LC discharge circuits that could find very wide applications in high pulsed current and magnetic field technology. Results are presented from the first stage of studies on the passage of an electron beam with energy 100–500 eV in a magnetic field of 300–700 Oe through the curvilinear solenoid of the KRéL unit, the latter being a prototype of the closing segment of the Drakon stellarator system, in the plasma-beam discharge regime. The ion density at the end of the curvilinear part of the chamber, n i ≈8×108–1010 cm−3, the electron temperature T e ≈4–15 eV, and the positions at which the beam hits the target for different distances from it to the electron source are determined experimentally. The motion of the electron beam is computationally modeled with allowance for the space charge created by the beam and the secondary plasma. From a comparison of the experimentally measured trajectories and trajectories calculated for different values of the space charge, we have obtained an estimate for the unneutralized ion density of the order of 5×107 cm−3. A study is made of the effect of pulse repetition rate (0.1−103 s−1) and average discharge current (0–1 A) on the breakdown delay time and burning voltage of low-pressure glow discharges (p<0.1 Pa) in an electrode system of the reverse magnetron type with a large cathode surface area (≈103 cm2). It is shown that increasing the repetition rate leads to a many-fold reduction in the statistical spread in the delay time and in the discharge formation time, while the average discharge current has a significant effect on the burning voltage. A steady-state Penning ion source is studied experimentally. Depending on the geometric parameter l a (the anode length to diameter ratio) and pressure, maxima are observed in the discharge current and in the ion beam current extracted from an aperture at the center of the cathode. It is shown that at pressures of the order of 10−4 Torr, two maxima appear in these currents: one, for short discharge gaps with l a =1–1.5, corresponds to a diverging ion beam, and the other, for longer anodes with l a =4–5, to a collimated ion beam. At pressures of the order of 10−5 Torr, only one maximum appears in these currents, for short anodes l a =2–3 with a diverging ion beam. A physical explanation is proposed for these findings. Zh. It is shown that in a plasma produced on the surface of a sample consisting of a natural mixture of mercury isotopes, ∼104−105 201Hg nuclei can be excited into the low-lying isomeric level 1/2 (1.561 keV) by an ultrashort laser pulse with energy ≈1 J, duration ≈200 fs, and intensity ≈1016 W/cm2 and the lifetime of the level can be determined. Possible mechanisms leading to the excitation of 201Hg nuclei by photons and electrons in a dense, hot plasma are examined and the cross sections of the processes are estimated. Spectra of plasma of the incomplete surface discharge in atmospheric-pressure air were measured. Bands of the systems 2+, 1+, and 1 of nitrogen were identified. It was shown that periodic excitation at the C 3Π u nitrogen level results in local equilibrium characterized by a vibrational temperature of 2250 K. For the 1+ band system of nitrogen, the structure of rotational transitions was resolved; it was found that the distribution in the 1+ band system is significantly nonequilibrium due to the A 3Σ u + level metastability. Transverse and longitudinal sections of the plasma band were scanned. It was found that the transverse distribution of the emission intensity has a maximum at a distance of 1 mm from the electrode edge followed by an exponential decay. The plasma band width was ∼5 mm. The longitudinal discharge structure consisted of a system of microchannels (with a characteristic diameter of 0.4 mm) with diffuse overlapping. The average channel density was 10–15 cm−1. It was shown that the spatial distribution of incomplete discharge plasma is characterized by high stability against wide-range variations of discharge electrical characteristics. For example, as the excitation voltage varies within 2–6 kV, the plasma band width changed by no more than 1 mm, and the vibrational temperature varied within 10–12%.  相似文献

Experiments are described in which a plasma focus is used simultaneously as an inductive store and a current switch. The obtained rates of current growth on a load of 0.01 Ω is 1012 A/s, and the maximum values of the switched current lie in the range 50–100 kA. A proprietary way of introducing a working substance to be separated into a reflective-discharge magnetoplasma separator is experimentally verified. The efficiency of working substance delivery using this sputtering mechanism providing a plasma density on the order of 1014 cm−3 is demonstrated. The sputtering yield of the substance being separated achieves (2.6–2.8) × 10−2 atoms/ion depending on the amount of particles in the discharge. Simultaneously, the minimal separation coefficient for light and heavy particles in a rotating plasma subjected to E × H crossed fields is estimated.  相似文献

The formation of macroscopic ordered structures in the standing striations of a stationary glow discharge in Ne is observed. A Coulomb quasicrystal is formed by spherical glass particles with diameters of 50–63 μm and charge Z p~7·105 e. The interparticle distance is approximately 300 μm. This corresponds to a nonideality parameter Γ~5·104, which leads to crystallization in the Yukawa model. The factors leading to the formation of a quasicrystal in the striations are discussed. We describe searches for parity and time reversal violations in the scattering of polarized neutrons from polarized and aligned165Ho targets. We have completed a search with 7.1 and 11.0 MeV neutrons for PoddTodd terms in the elastic scattering forward amplitude of the form s. (I×K), wheres is the neutron spin,I is the target spin andk is the neutron momentum vector. The target was a single crystal of holmium, polarized horizontally along itsb axis by a 1 Tesla magnetic field. The neutrons were polarized vertically. Differences in the neutron transmission were measured for neutrons with spins parallel (antiparallel) toI×k. The P,T violating analyzing powers were found to be consistent with zero at the few 10−3 level: ρP,T(7.1 MeV)=−0.88 (±2.02) x 10−3, ρP,T(11.0 MeV)=−0.4 (±2.88) x 10−3. We have also attempted to find enhancements with MeV neutrons in P-violation due to the term s\k. We are preparing an aligned target cryostat for investigations of PevenTodd terms {bd(I\k)(I×k)\s} in neutron scattering. The target will be a single crystal cylinder of165Ho cooled to 100 mK in a bath of liquid helium and rotated by a shaft from a room temperature stepping motor. The cylinder will be oriented vertically and the alignment (c) axis oriented horizontally. Warming or rotation of the sample allows one to separate effects that mimic the sought-after time reversal violating term.  相似文献

By means of π++ channelling, positive pions (π+) implanted intoTa, Mo, andW are investigated up to high temperatures. A striking observation is that the channelling effect disappears in a rather narrow temperature interval centred at 0.26 (Ta) to 0.51 (W) of the melting temperature. From studies of π+ trapping by oxygen atoms inTa estimates for the low-temperature π+ diffusivity inTa [D π(23K)=1.4·10−10±0.3 m2s−1,D π(47K)=5.7·10−10±0.3 m2s−1] as well as for the binding enthalpy of π+ to 0 atoms (H B=7·10−2 eV) have been obtained. The diffusion data are in reasonable agreement with the theory of phonon-assisted tunnelling.  相似文献

We report on the results of successful implementation of full grid control in a cesium discharge with a cathode spot. The discharge is quenched by a negative grid pulse for a discharge current density up to 75 A/cm2 in the grid plane for voltage switching up to 100 V in the pressure range 0.5–1.5 Pa for a voltage drop of 5–6 V in the discharge. It is shown that quenching is the break-off type. The discovered effect of “evacuation” of the heavy component (ions) from the grid-anode gap to the cathode region leads to an unusually long (hundreds of microseconds) time of stabilization of the steady state in the discharge under the experimental conditions.  相似文献

The pulsed conductivity is investigated for a CsI-Tl crystal having a Tl+ concentration N=8×1017cm−3 and excited by an electron beam (0.2 MeV, 50 ps, 102–104 A/cm 2). It is shown that the amplitude of the conduction current pulse is almost an order of magnitude lower than for “pure” CsI crystals irradiated under like conditions. The conduction current relaxation time is preserved up to τ=100 ps in this case. Under the experimental conditions, therefore, the lifetime of electrons in the conduction band is controlled by trapping at Tl+ centers. The electron capture cross section at a Tl+ center is determined: σ=7×10−16 cm2, which agrees in order of magnitude with estimates of the capture cross section for a neutral trapping center. Fiz. The high-resolution emission spectrum of the A1 Π–X1Σ+ transition of AlH was observed in the 18 000–25 000 cm-1 spectral region using a conventional spectroscopic technique. The AlH molecules were excited in an Al hollow-cathode lamp filled with a mixture of Ne carried gas and a trace amount of NH3. The emission from the discharge was observed with a plane grating spectrograph and recorded by a photomultiplier tube. In total 163 transition wave numbers belonging to six bands (0-0,1 and 1-0,1,2,3) were precisely measured and rotationally analysed. In the final fit the present data have been combined with available high-resolution measurements of the vibration-rotation bands by White et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 99, 8371 (1993)]. This procedure enabled extracting molecular constants for the A1 Π and X1 Σ+ states of AlH. A very slight local perturbation has been discovered in the v=1 vibration level of the A1 Π state at J=5. This was probably caused by the interaction with the a3Π state.  相似文献

The vibrational kinetics of the nitrogen molecule in the ground state X 1Σ g + in the burning and afterglow stages of a pulsed discharge are investigated by coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS). The total cross section for vibrational excitation of the nitrogen molecule by electron impact to the first eight vibrational levels is determined. The rate constant for the associative ionization reaction involving nitrogen atoms in the metastable states 2 P and 2 D is estimated. It is found that the best agreement between the calculated and measured populations of the nitrogen molecules in the ground state X 1Σ g + in the afterglow stage of a pulsed discharge is obtained when the rate constant for VV exchange K 01 10 has the value predicted by the quantum-classical Billing-Fisher model. Two weakly ionized plasmas (the ionization-degree a′′ = 10-6 and 10-5) and an intermediately ionized plasma (a′′ = 10-4) are investigated. In previous work, the negative magnetoresistance effect (the increase-phenomenon of the discharge current) in a gas plasma in the case where electrons are scattered only by heavy neutral atoms was only touched upon. In this work, under the condition that electrons are scattered by heavy neutral atoms and by the Coulomb force of heavy helium ions, the dependences of “the drift velocity of electrons” and “the increase-phenomenon of the discharge current in the magnetoresistance effect” on the ionization-degrees and the active radii of the Coulomb force of a helium ion are examined. And it is pointed out that the increase-phenomenon of the discharge current in the magnetoresistance effect appears from neither the wellknown Langevin equation nor the Fokker-Planck equation.  相似文献
