The paper investigates the properties of an operator T φ on the Hilbert space l 2(?), which are induced by the mapping φ of the set ? into itself. It is shown if the mapping φ is such that every preimage has finite, but not equipotentionally bounded cardinality, then the operator T φ allows a closure and can be represented as a countable sum of partial isometries. The C*-algebras U φ , P φ and U φ associated with given mappings and generated by the mentioned partial isometries are considered. Some properties of these algebras and some relations between them are given.  相似文献

LetC ub ( $\mathbb{J}$ , X) denote the Banach space of all uniformly continuous bounded functions defined on $\mathbb{J}$ 2 ε {?+, ?} with values in a Banach spaceX. Let ? be a class fromC ub( $\mathbb{J}$ ,X). We introduce a spectrumsp?(φ) of a functionφ εC ub (?,X) with respect to ?. This notion of spectrum enables us to investigate all twice differentiable bounded uniformly continuous solutions on ? to the abstract Cauchy problem (*)ω′(t) =(t) +φ(t),φ(0) =x,φ ε ?, whereA is the generator of aC 0-semigroupT(t) of bounded operators. Ifφ = 0 andσ(A) ∩i? is countable, all bounded uniformly continuous mild solutions on ?+ to (*) are studied. We prove the bound-edness and uniform continuity of all mild solutions on ?+ in the cases (i)T(t) is a uniformly exponentially stableC 0-semigroup andφ εC ub(?,X); (ii)T(t) is a uniformly bounded analyticC 0-semigroup,φ εC ub (?,X) andσ(A) ∩i sp(φ) = Ø. Under the condition (i) if the restriction ofφ to ?+ belongs to ? = ?(?+,X), then the solutions belong to ?. In case (ii) if the restriction ofφ to ?+ belongs to ? = ?(?+,X), andT(t) is almost periodic, then the solutions belong to ?. The existence of mild solutions on ? to (*) is also discussed.  相似文献

Extending the notion of property T of finite von Neumann algebras to general von Neumann algebras, we define and study in this paper property T** for (possibly non-unital) C* -algebras. We obtain several results of property T** parallel to those of property T for unital C* -algebras. Moreover, we show that a discrete group Γ has property T if and only if the group C* -algebra Cr* (Γ) (or equivalently, the reduced group C* -algebra Cr* (Γ)) has property T**. We also show that the compact operators K(l2 ) has property T** but c0 does not have property T**.  相似文献

Our main result is the construction of an embedding ofC(T2) into an approximately finite-dimensionalC *-algebra which induces an injection onK 0(C(T2)). The existence of this embedding implies that Cech cohomology cannot be extended to a stable, continuous homology theory forC *-algebras which admits a well-behaved Chern character. Homotopy properties ofC *-algebras are also considered. For example, we show that the second homotopy functor forC *-algebras is discontinuous. Similar embeddings are constructed for all the rational rotation algebras, with the consequence that none of the rational rotation algebras satisfies the homotopy property called semiprojectivity.  相似文献

We give a short answer to the question in the title: dendrits. Precisely we show that the C*-algebra C(X) of all complex-valued continuous functions on a compactum X is projective in the category C1 of all (not necessarily commutative) unital C*-algebras if and only if X is an absolute retract of dimension dimX?1 or, equivalently, that X is a dendrit.  相似文献

Let X be an infinite-dimensional real reflexive Banach space such that X and its dual X* are locally uniformly convex. Suppose that T: X?D(T) → 2 X * is a maximal monotone multi-valued operator and C: X?D(C) → X* is a generalized pseudomonotone quasibounded operator with L ? D(C), where L is a dense subspace of X. Applying a recent degree theory of Kartsatos and Skrypnik, we establish the existence of an eigensolution to the nonlinear inclusion 0 ∈ T x + λ C x , with a regularization method by means of the duality operator. Moreover, possible branches of eigensolutions to the above inclusion are discussed. Furthermore, we give a surjectivity result about the operator λT + C when λ is not an eigenvalue for the pair (T, C), T being single-valued and densely defined.  相似文献

For dynamical systems defined by a covering map of a compact Hausdorff space and the corresponding transfer operator, the associated crossed product C *-algebras C(X) α,ℒℕ introduced by Exel and Vershik are considered. An important property for homeomorphism dynamical systems is topological freeness. It can be extended in a natural way to in general non-invertible dynamical systems generated by covering maps. In this article, it is shown that the following four properties are equivalent: the dynamical system generated by a covering map is topologically free; the canonical embedding of C(X) into C(X) α,ℒℕ is a maximal abelian C *-subalgebra of C(X) α,ℒℕ; any nontrivial two sided ideal of C(X) α,ℒℕ has non-zero intersection with the embedded copy of C(X); a certain natural representation of C(X) α,ℒℕ is faithful. This result is a generalization to non-invertible dynamics of the corresponding results for crossed product C *-algebras of homeomorphism dynamical systems.  相似文献

Let T : X → X be a uniformly continuous homeomorphism on a non-compact metric space (X, d). Denote by X* = X ∪ {x*} the one point compactification of X and T * : X* → X* the homeomorphism on X* satisfying T *|X = T and T *x* = x*. We show that their topological entropies satisfy hd(T, X) ≥ h(T *, X*) if X is locally compact. We also give a note on Katok’s measure theoretic entropy on a compact metric space.  相似文献

We use techniques from both real and complex algebraic geometry to study K-theoretic and related invariants of the algebra C(X) of continuous complex-valued functions on a compact Hausdorff topological space X. For example, we prove a parameterized version of a theorem by Joseph Gubeladze; we show that if M is a countable, abelian, cancellative, torsion-free, semi-normal monoid, and X is contractible, then every finitely generated projective module over C(X)[M] is free. The particular case gives a parameterized version of the celebrated theorem proved independently by Daniel Quillen and Andrei Suslin that finitely generated projective modules over a polynomial ring over a field are free. The conjecture of Jonathan Rosenberg which predicts the homotopy invariance of the negative algebraic K-theory of C(X) follows from the particular case . We also give algebraic conditions for a functor from commutative algebras to abelian groups to be homotopy invariant on C *-algebras, and for a homology theory of commutative algebras to vanish on C *-algebras. These criteria have numerous applications. For example, the vanishing criterion applied to nil K-theory implies that commutative C *-algebras are K-regular. As another application, we show that the familiar formulas of Hochschild–Kostant–Rosenberg and Loday–Quillen for the algebraic Hochschild and cyclic homology of the coordinate ring of a smooth algebraic variety remain valid for the algebraic Hochschild and cyclic homology of C(X). Applications to the conjectures of Beĭlinson-Soulé and Farrell–Jones are also given.  相似文献

For an essentially normal operatorT, it is shown that there exists a unilateral shift of multiplicitym inC * (T) if and only if γ(T)≠0 and γ(T)/m. As application, we prove that the essential commutant of a unilateral shift and that of a bilateral shift are not isomorphic asC * -algebras. Finally, we construct a naturalC * -algebra ε + ε* on the Bergman spaceL a 2 (B n ), and show that its essential commutant is generated by Toeplitz operators with symmetric continuous symbols and all compact operators. Noncommutative differential geometric structures are considered for a class of simple C*-algebras. This structure is defined in terms of smooth Lie group actions on the C*-algebra in question together with a certain quantization mapping motivated directly by the known cohomological obstructions for the quantum mechanical quantization correspondence. We show that such a quantization mapping may be constructed for the C*-algebras associated to antisymmetric bi-characters and for the Cuntz/Cuntz-Krieger C*-algebras associated to topological dynamics. A certain curvature obstruction is defined in terms of the quantization mapping. It is shown that existence of smooth Lie group actions is determined by the curvature obstruction.  相似文献

We study the operator algebra associated with a self-mapping ? on a countable set X which can be represented as a directed graph. The algebra is generated by the family of partial isometries acting on the corresponding l2(X). We study the structure of involutive semigroup multiplicatively generated by the family of partial isometries. We formulate the criterion when the algebra is irreducible on the Hilbert space. We consider the concrete examples of operator algebras. In particular, we give the examples of nonisomorphic C*-algebras, which are the extensions by compact operators of the algebra of continuous functions on the unit circle.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a C*-subalgebra of the algebra of all bounded operators B(l2(X)) on the Hilbert space l2(X)) with one generating element T φ induced by a mapping φ of a set X into itself. We prove that such a C* -algebra has an AF-subalgebra and establish commutativity conditions for the latter. We prove that a C* -algebra generated by a mapping produces a dynamic system such that the corresponding group of automorphisms is invariant on elements of the AF- subalgebra.  相似文献

A compact spaceS is constructed such that, in the dual Banach spaceC(S)*, every weak* convergent sequence is weakly convergent, whileC(S) does not have a subspace isomorphic tol . The construction introduces a weak version of completeness for Boolean algebras, here called the Subsequential Completeness Property. A related construction leads to a counterexample to a conjecture about holomorphic functions on Banach spaces. A compact spaceT is constructed such thatC(T) does not containl but does have a “bounding” subset that is not relatively compact. The first of the examples was presented at the International Conference on Banach spaces, Kent, Ohio, 1979.  相似文献

Let X be an infinite dimensional real reflexive Banach space with dual space X and GX, open and bounded. Assume that X and X are locally uniformly convex. Let T:XD(T)→2X be maximal monotone and strongly quasibounded, S:XD(S)→X maximal monotone, and C:XD(C)→X strongly quasibounded w.r.t. S and such that it satisfies a generalized (S+)-condition w.r.t. S. Assume that D(S)=LD(T)∩D(C), where L is a dense subspace of X, and 0∈T(0),S(0)=0. A new topological degree theory is introduced for the sum T+S+C, with degree mapping d(T+S+C,G,0). The reason for this development is the creation of a useful tool for the study of a class of time-dependent problems involving three operators. This degree theory is based on a degree theory that was recently developed by Kartsatos and Skrypnik just for the single-valued sum S+C, as above.  相似文献

For a certain class of extensions of C*-algebras in which B and A belong to classifiable classes of C*-algebras, we show that the functor which sends to its associated six term exact sequence in K-theory and the positive cones of K0(B) and K0(A) is a classification functor. We give two independent applications addressing the classification of a class of C*-algebras arising from substitutional shift spaces on one hand and of graph algebras on the other. The former application leads to the answer of a question of Carlsen and the first named author concerning the completeness of stabilized Matsumoto algebras as an invariant of flow equivalence. The latter leads to the first classification result for nonsimple graph C*-algebras.  相似文献

In this article, we will give a complete classification of simple C*-algebras which can be written as inductive limits of algebras of the form An=⊕i=1knM[n,i](C(Xn,i)), where Xn,i are arbitrary variable one-dimensional compact metrizable spaces. The results unify and generalize the previous results for the case Xn,i=S1 and for the case of Xn,i being trees. We obtain our classification results by reducing the case of general one-dimensional spaces to the case of circles. The techniques in this paper play important roles in the study of the case of higher-dimensional spaces.  相似文献

Let X be a compactum, τ be an infinite cardinal, and t(X) ≤ τ. In this case, l(Cp(X)) ≤ 2τ. If X is τ-monolitliic, then l(Cp(X)) ≤ τ+. In addition, if X is zero-dimensional and there are no τ+-Aronszajn trees, then l(Cp(X)) ≤ τ.  相似文献

Let T be an injective bilateral weighted shift onl 2 thought as "multiplication by λ" on a space of formal Laurent series L2(β). (a) If L2(β) is contained in a space of quasi-analytic class of functions, then the point spectrum σp(T?) of T? contains a circle and the cyclic invariant subspaceM f of T generated by f is simply invariant (i.e., ∩{(Tk M f)?: k ≥ 0}= {0}) for each f in L2(β); (b) If L2(β) contains a non-quasi-analytic class of functions (defined on a circle г) of a certain type related with the weight sequence of T, then there exists f in L2(ß) such thatM f is a non-trivial doubly invariant subspace (i.e., (TM f)? =M f); furthermore, if г ? σp(T*), then σp (T*) = г and f can be chosen so that σp([T∣M f]*) = г?{α}, for some α ε г. Several examples show that the gap between operators satisfying (a) and operators satisfying (b) is rather small.  相似文献
