The water-soluble polysaccharides of the seeds of eight species of Gleditsia have been isolated and studied. They are galactomannans
with different viscosities, specific rotations, and ratios of galactose and mannose. A study of their chemical transformations
and IR spectral data has shown that the monosaccharide residues are pyranoses linked by β-1-4-glycosidic bonds having in the
second componentD-galactose with the α-configuration of the glycosidic center and the most probable chair conformation of the pyranose ring.

Tetraploid varieties of the cotton plant belonging to the medium- and thin-fibered types have been studied with respect to their histone/DNA ratio, their content of histone fractions, and the amino acid composition of the total histones. Phospholipids of the seeds of kenaf of the variety Opytnyi-1931 are similar with respect to their set of components and the qualitative composition of the fatty acids of homogeneous classes to the phospholipids of the variety Opytnyi-1972, but differ with respect to the amounts of individual acids. The results are given of a study of the quantitative content of protein in the seeds of some pea varieties and mutants, the activity of the total inhibitor proteins, and correlations of their activity with the protein content of the seeds and the amino acid compositions of the proteinase inhibitors.
