We measure the absorption spectrum of a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) in a GaAs quantum well in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field. We focus on the absorption spectrum into the lowest Landau level around nu=1. We find that the spectrum consists of bound electron-hole complexes, trionlike and excitonlike. We show that their oscillator strength is a powerful probe of the 2DES spatial correlations. We find that near nu=1 the 2DES ground state consists of Skyrmions of small size (a few magnetic lengths).  相似文献

We derive the coupling of a localized hexadecapolar mode to conduction electrons in tetragonal symmetry. The derivation can be easily adapted to arbitrary multipoles in an arbitrary environment. We relate our model to the two-channel Kondo (2CK) model and show that for an f(2) configuration a relevant crystal field splitting in addition to the 2CK interaction is intrinsic to tetragonal symmetry. We discuss possible realizations of a hexadecapolar Kondo effect in URu(2)Si(2). Solving our model we find good agreement with susceptibility and specific heat measurements in Th(1-x)U(x)Ru(2)Si(2) (x?1).  相似文献

We propose a definition of symplectic 2-groupoid which includes integrations of Courant algebroids that have been recently constructed. We study in detail the simple but illustrative case of constant symplectic 2-groupoids. We show that the constant symplectic 2-groupoids are, up to equivalence, in one-to-one correspondence with a simple class of Courant algebroids that we call constant Courant algebroids. Furthermore, we find a correspondence between certain Dirac structures and Lagrangian sub-2-groupoids.  相似文献

We elaborate on the construction of a prequantum 2-Hilbert space from a bundle gerbe over a 2-plectic manifold, providing the first steps in a programme of higher geometric quantisation of closed strings in flux compactifications and of M5-branes in C-fields. We review in detail the construction of the 2-category of bundle gerbes and introduce the higher geometrical structures necessary to turn their categories of sections into 2-Hilbert spaces. We work out several explicit examples of 2-Hilbert spaces in the context of closed strings and M5-branes on flat space. We also work out the prequantum 2-Hilbert space associated with an M-theory lift of closed strings described by an asymmetric cyclic orbifold of the \(\mathsf {S}\mathsf {U}(2)\) WZW model, providing an example of sections of a torsion gerbe on a curved background. We describe the dimensional reduction of M-theory to string theory in these settings as a map from 2-isomorphism classes of sections of bundle gerbes to sections of corresponding line bundles, which is compatible with the respective monoidal structures and module actions.  相似文献

We review recent investigations of the femtosecond nonlinear optical response of the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in a strong magnetic field. We probe the Quantum Hall (QH) regime for filling factors ν∼1. Our focus is on the transient coherence induced via optical excitation and on its time evolution during early femtosecond timescales. We simultaneously study the interband and intraband coherence in this system by using a nonlinear spectroscopic technique, transient three-pulse four wave mixing optical spectroscopy, and a many-body theory. We observe striking differences in the temporal and spectral profile of the nonlinear optical signal between a modulation doped quantum well system (with the 2DEG) and a similar undoped quantum well (without a 2DEG). We attribute these qualitative differences to Coulomb correlations between the photoexcited electron-hole pairs and the 2DEG. We show, in particular, that intraband many-particle coherences assisted by the inter-Landau-level magnetoplasmon excitations of the 2DEG dominate the femtosecond nonlinear optical response. The most striking effect of these exciton-magnetoplasmon coherences is a large off-resonant four-wave-mixing signal in the case of very low photoexcited carrier densities, not observed in the undoped system, with strong temporal oscillations and unusually symmetric temporal profile.  相似文献

We perform a perturbative QCD analysis of the nucleon's Pauli form factor F2(Q2) in the asymptotically large Q2 limit. We find that the leading contribution to F2(Q2) has a 1/Q6 power behavior, consistent with the well-known result in the literature. Its coefficient depends on the leading- and subleading-twist light-cone wave functions of the nucleon, the latter describing the quarks with one unit of orbital angular momentum. We also derive at the logarithmic accuracy the asymptotic scaling F2(Q2)/F(1)(Q2) approximately (log2Q2/Lambda2)/Q2 which describes recent Jefferson Lab data well.  相似文献

It has recently been suggested that long-range magnetic dipolar interactions are responsible for spin ice behavior in the Ising pyrochlore magnets Dy2Ti2O7 and Ho2Ti2O7. We report here numerical results on the low temperature properties of the dipolar spin ice model, obtained via a new loop algorithm which greatly improves the dynamics at low temperature. We recover the previously reported missing entropy in this model, and find a first order transition to a long-range ordered phase with zero total magnetization at very low temperature. We discuss the relevance of these results to Dy2Ti2O7 and Ho2Ti2O7.  相似文献

We report on a numerical experiment in which we use time-dependent potentials to braid non-Abelian quasiparticles. We consider lattice bosons in a uniform magnetic field within the fractional quantum Hall regime, where ν, the ratio of particles to flux quanta, is near 1/2, 1, or 3/2. We introduce time-dependent potentials which move quasiparticle excitations around one another, explicitly simulating a braiding operation which could implement part of a gate in a quantum computation. We find that different braids do not commute for ν near 1 and 3/2, with Berry matrices, respectively, consistent with Ising and Fibonacci anyons. Near ν=1/2, the braids commute.  相似文献

We report the results of magnetization and specific heat measurements on Ba{3}CoSb{2}O{9}, in which the magnetic Co{2+} ion has a fictitious spin 1/2, and provide evidence that a spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a regular triangular lattice is actually realized in Ba{3}CoSb{2}O{9}. We found that the entire magnetization curve including the one-third quantum magnetization plateau is in excellent quantitative agreement with the results of theoretical calculations. We also found that Ba{3}CoSb{2}O{9} undergoes a three-step transition within a narrow temperature range.  相似文献

We assume that time invariance of physical laws is true. We assume that one source of 2N uncorrelated spin-carrying particles emits them in a state, which can be described as a multipartite pure uncorrelated state (+∞>N≥1). We assume that each of them is a spin-1/2 pure state lying in the \(\frac{z+x}{\sqrt{2}}\) direction. We assume that the measurement setup is two-orthogonal-settings for each of the observers. We show that 2N-particle pure uncorrelated quantum state violates a time invariant nonlocal realistic theory. 2N implies that we consider Bose-Einstein statistics.  相似文献

The fabrication of high-quality electron-selective layers at low temperature is a prerequisite to realizing efficient flexible and tandem perovskite solar cells(PSCs). A colloidal-quantum-dot ink that contains TiO_2 nanocrystals enables the deposition of a flat film with matched energy level for PSCs; however, the selection of ligands on the TiO_2 surface is still unexplored. Here, we systematically studied the effect of the titanium diisopropoxide bis(acetylacetonate)(TiAc_2)ligand on the performance of PSCs with a planar n-i-p architecture. We prepared TiO_2 nanocrystals from TiCl4 and ethyl alcohol with Cl~- ligands attached on its surface and we found that a tiny amount of TiAc_2 treatment of as-prepared TiO_2 nanocrystals in a mixed solution of chloroform and methyl alcohol can enhance PSC power conversion efficiency(PCE)from 14.7% to 18.3%. To investigate the effect of TiAc_2 ligand on PSCs, TiO_2 samples with different TiAc_2 content were prepared by adding TiAc_2 into the as-obtained TiO_2 nanocrystal solution. We use x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to identify the content of Cl so as to reveal that Cl ligands can be substituted by TiAc_2. We speculate that the improvement in PCE originates from amorphous TiO_2 formation on the TiO_2 nanocrystal surface, whereby a single-molecule layer of amorphous TiO_2 facilitates charge transfer between the perovskite film and the TiO_2 electronic transport layer, but excessive TiAc_2 lowers the PSC performance dramatically. We further prove our hypothesis by x-ray diffraction measurements. We believe the PCE of PSCs can be further improved by carefully choosing the type and changing the content of surface ligands on TiO_2 nanocrystal.  相似文献

We suggest that the observed large-scale universal roughness of brittle fracture surfaces is due to the fracture propagation being a damage coalescence process described by a stress-weighted percolation phenomenon in a self-generated quadratic damage gradient. We use the quasistatic 2D fuse model as a paradigm of a mode I fracture model. We measure for this model, which exhibits a correlated percolation process, the correlation length exponent nu approximately 1.35 and conjecture it to be equal to that of classical percolation, 4/3. We then show that the roughness exponent in the 2D fuse model is zeta=2nu/(1+2nu)=8/11. This is in accordance with the numerical value zeta=0.75. Using the value for 3D percolation, nu=0.88, we predict the roughness exponent in the 3D fuse model to be zeta=0.64, in close agreement with the previously published value of 0.62+/-0.05. We furthermore predict zeta=4/5 for 3D brittle fractures, based on a recent calculation giving nu=2. This is in full accordance with the value zeta=0.80 found experimentally.  相似文献

We demonstrate an efficient method of mid-IR femtosecond-laser-pulse self-compression in transparent dielectrics based on a suitable selection of the parameters of the medium and laser radiation. We discuss the principle of selection of the nonlinear medium for ultrashort-pulse self-compression. We show that the proposed combination of the Kerr nonlinearity and negative group-velocity dispersion in a set of transparent dielectric crystals (CaF2, BaF2, YAG, etc.) provides a compression of the incident laser pulse to a 1–2 cycle pulse width.  相似文献

We present a technique for measuring the second-order coherence function g(2)(tau) of light using a Hanbury Brown-Twiss intensity interferometer modified for homodyne detection. The experiment was performed entirely in the continuous-variable regime at the sideband frequency of a bright carrier field. We used the setup to characterize g(2)(tau) for thermal and coherent states and investigated its immunity to optical loss. We measured g(2)(tau) of a displaced-squeezed state and found a best antibunching statistic of g(2)(0)=0.11+/-0.18.  相似文献

We present a detailed study of out-of-plane scattering losses in a 1D approximation of 2D photonic crystal slabs. In 2D photonic crystals with a waveguide structure in the third dimension, the periodic structure (in a lot of applications a 2D arrangement of holes etched through the core and cladding) will cause light to scatter out of the waveguide plane. We studied the out-of-plane scattering losses of these holes using a 2D approximation of this 3D structure, with etched slots instead of holes. Our simulation techniques included mode expansion with PML and FDTD. We will present the influence of the refractive index contrast between core and cladding of the layered structure. We show that the losses increase with higher index contrast between core and cladding, but that with very high index contrasts and under the right circumstances light can be coupled into lossless Bloch modes.  相似文献

We have studied saturated solutions of ZnCl2 (and NiCl2) in D2O by time-of-flight quasi-elastic and inelastic neutron scattering spectroscopy. Spectra were taken at room temperature as a function of transferred momentum. We find that ionic diffusion in these solutions is best described by a crystal vacancy diffusion model. We also find evidence of collective excitations in the region of ~ 20 meV.  相似文献

We consider five-dimensional gravity with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a 2-brane of codimension 2. We show that this system admits Ba?ados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black holes on the 2-brane which are extended into the bulk with regular horizons.  相似文献
