It is proven that theL 2 spectrum for certain non-semisimple, non-nilpotent symmetric spaces is multiplicity-free. The spectrum and spectral measure are computed precisely for symmetric spaces corresponding to non-compact motion groups. Somewhat less complete results on theL 2 spectrum — in both the Mackey Machine and Orbit Method modes — are given for general semidirect product symmetric spaces. Let G/H be a semisimple symmetric space. We consider a Dirac operator D on G/H twisted by a finite dimensional H-representation. We give an explicit integral formula for certain solutions of the equation D=0. In particular, some quotients of standard principal series representations are seen to occur in the kernel of D.  相似文献

A semitopological group (topological group) is a group endowed with a topology for which multiplication is separately continuous (multiplication is jointly continuous and inversion is continuous). In this paper we use topological games to show that many semitopological groups are in fact topological groups.  相似文献

We study CLP-compact spaces (every cover consisting of clopen sets has a finite subcover) and CLP-compact topological groups. In particular, we extend a theorem on CLP-compactness of products from [J. Steprāns, A. Šostak, Restricted compactness properties and their preservation under products, Topology Appl. 101 (3) (2000) 213-229] and we offer various criteria for CLP-compactness for spaces and topological groups, that work particularly well for precompact groups. This allows us to show that arbitrary products of CLP-compact pseudocompact groups are CLP-compact. For every natural n we construct:
(i)
a totally disconnected, n-dimensional, pseudocompact CLP-compact group; and
(ii)
a hereditarily disconnected, n-dimensional, totally minimal, CLP-compact group that can be chosen to be either separable metrizable or pseudocompact (a Hausdorff group G is totally minimal when all continuous surjective homomorphisms GH, with a Hausdorff group H, are open).

A study is presented of the relationship between the topological and uniformity properties of a group G and the spaces (G), (G) of all nonempty closed subsets and closed subgroups of G. A base for the neighborhood system of a closed subset X of G is formed by the sets S(X, U)={Y Y XU, X YU}, where U ranges over all neighborhoods of the identity in G. Criteria are obtained for the space (G) and some of its subspaces to be totally bounded and locally totally bounded. Some classes of groups with compact spaces (G) are described. It is proved that the spaces (G), (G) are complete in the case of projective metrizable groups G.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 42, No. 4, pp. 542–549, April, 1990.  相似文献

For a probability measure on a locally compact groupG which is not supported on any proper closed subgroup, an elementF ofL (G) is called -harmonic if F(st)d(t)=F(s), for almost alls inG. Constant functions are -harmonic and it is known that for abelianG all -harmonic functions are constant. For other groups it is known that non constant -harmonic functions exist and the question of whether such functions exist on nilpotent groups is open, though a number of partial results are known. We show that for nilpotent groups of class 2 there are no non constant -harmonic functions. Our methods also enable us to give new proofs of results similar to the known partial results.  相似文献

If Φ is a positive definite function on a real linear space E of infinite dimension and Φ enjoys certain symmetry conditions we are able to show that Φ is expressible as a certain Laplace-Stieltjes transform. Conversely, if Φ is given by such a transform we can often show that Φ is positive definite on E. In particular, our results apply to the Lp spaces, 0 < p < ∞, as well as to other Orlicz spaces. We also are able to show that the only positive definite continuous sup-norm symmetric functions on C(T), the space of bounded real continuous functions on T, are constants whenever C(T) contains a sequence of functions with sup-norm one and disjoint support. Finally, we apply these ideas to obtain a result on radial exponentially convex functions on a Hilbert space.  相似文献

We present a construction of the Borel hierarchy in general topological spaces and its relation to Baire hierarchy. We define mappings of Borel class α, prove the validity of the Lebesgue-Hausdor-Banach characterization for them and show their relation to Baire classes of mappings on compact spaces. The obtained results are used for studying Baire and Borel order of compact spaces, answering thus one part of a question raised by R. D. Mauldin. We present several examples showing some natural limits of our results in non-compact spaces.  相似文献

Adler, Konheim and McAndrew introduced the concept of topological entropy of a continuous mapping for compact dynamical systems. Bowen generalized the concept to non-compact metric spaces, but Walters indicated that Bowen’s entropy is metric-dependent. We propose a new definition of topological entropy for continuous mappings on arbitrary topological spaces (compactness, metrizability, even axioms of separation not necessarily required), investigate fundamental properties of the new entropy, and compare the new entropy with the existing ones. The defined entropy generates that of Adler, Konheim and McAndrew and is metric-independent for metrizable spaces. Yet, it holds various basic properties of Adler, Konheim and McAndrew’s entropy, e.g., the entropy of a subsystem is bounded by that of the original system, topologically conjugated systems have a same entropy, the entropy of the induced hyperspace system is larger than or equal to that of the original system, and in particular this new entropy coincides with Adler, Konheim and McAndrew’s entropy for compact systems.  相似文献

Let be a locally compact group equipped with right Haar measure. The right differences of functions on are defined by for . Let and suppose for some and all . We prove that is a right uniformly continuous function of . If is abelian and the Beurling spectrum does not contain the unit of the dual group , then we show . These results have analogues for functions , where is a separable or reflexive Banach space. Finally, we apply our methods to vector-valued right uniformly continuous differences and to absolutely continuous elements of left Banach -modules.

We prove implicit function theorems for mappings on topological vector spaces over valued fields. In the real and complex cases, we obtain implicit function theorems for mappings from arbitrary (not necessarily locally convex) topological vector spaces to Banach spaces.  相似文献

We prove sharp pointwise estimates for functions in the Sobolev spaces of radial functions defined in a ball. As a consequence, we obtain some imbeddings of such Sobolev spaces in weighted Lq-spaces. We also prove similar imbeddings for Sobolev spaces of functions with partial symmetry. Our techniques lead to new Hardy type inequalities. It is important to observe that we do not require any vanishing condition on the boundary to obtain all our estimates. We apply these imbeddings to obtain radial solutions and partially symmetric solutions for a biharmonic equation of the Hénon type under both Dirichlet and Navier boundary conditions. The delicate question of the regularity of these solutions is also established.  相似文献
