For more than 20 years nuclear physicists have used the GEANT code to simulate particle-matter interaction. In most recent version, GEANT4 is a toolkit for simulating the passage of particles though matter, which contains a complete range of functionality including tracking, geometry, physics models, and hits. In this article, an attempt to use GEANT4 to model a double-gap resistive plate chamber (RPC) with its improved efficiency is presented. The efficiencies of the double-gap RPC have been evaluated as a function of gamma energy range 0.005-1000MeV. A comparison to available previous simulation package GEANT3 data is also performed.  相似文献

'G4argo', a GEANT4-based simulation package for the ARGO-YBJ detector, is described in this paper. G4argo incorporates in the simulation the true RPC time resolution and another 0.5 ns time uncertainty which is introduced from the offline calibration of TDC. In addition, the correct RPC geometry and the true materials for the ARGO-YBJ experimental hall are implemented. As a result, G4argo simulation shows a very good agreement with real data.  相似文献

We present studies of the performance of jet reconstruction algorithms with full GEANT simulation of the ATLAS detector. Simulated jets from PYTHIA are embedded into the heavy ion background from HIJING. The results on the jet energy and position resolutions of the ATLAS calorimeter system for different centralities of the PbPb collisions are shown. The energy resolution of single reconstructed jets is better than 20% at 100 GeV. We also present ATLAS capability for measurement of jet energy profiles, fragmentation functions and transverse jet structure.  相似文献

A full-scale simulation of the response of the big ionization calorimeter (BIC) at the Tien Shan station to the passage of single protons and muons was performed on the basis of the GEANT4 package in order to estimate the contribution of the muon cosmic-ray component to the generation of unusual events (such as Anti-Centauros), which were recorded by this facility, and to the imitation of the long-flying component, which changes the shape of the average cascade curve. A comparison of the results of this simulation with experimental data reveals that the appearance of Anti-Centauros may be reasonably explained by the contribution of multiple interactions of single muons, but that muon events are insufficient for explaining the change in the shape of the cascade curve (in particular, the emergence of a second maximum).  相似文献

In this article, we study the interactions of stable, hadronising new states, arising in certain extensions of the standard model. A simple model, originally intended for stable gluino hadrons, is developed to describe the nuclear interactions of hadrons containing any new colour triplet or octet stable parton. Hadron mass spectra, nuclear scattering cross sections and interaction processes are discussed. Furthermore, an implementation of the interactions of heavy hadrons in GEANT 3 is presented, signatures are studied, and a few remarks about possible detection with the ATLAS experiment are given.Received: 2 April 2004, Published online: 6 August 2004  相似文献

We have investigated the possibility of reconstructing the top quark charge through measurement of its decay product charges at the ATLAS detector. Verification of the hypothesis about alternative interpretation of top-quark experimental data has been considered as well. The method of “semileptonic B-meson decay” was applied for reconstructing the b-jet charge. A statistical significance of more than 5σ can be achieved using this method after analyzing 1 fb−1 of the t̄t-pairs data. The analysis was carried out with HERWIG and PYTHIA generators and using the GEANT4 detector simulation software package. The text was submitted by the authors in English.  相似文献

The validity of single scattering radiative transfer calculations for simulation of limb-emission measurements of clouds in the mid-infrared spectral region was investigated by comparison with a multiple scattering model. For in limb direction optically thin clouds, like polar stratospheric clouds, errors of the single scattering scheme range below 3%. For optically thick clouds deviations are below 3% in case of low single scattering albedo (ω0=0.24) increasing up to 10-30% for ω0=0.84. Clouds which are optically thick in limb, but thin in nadir direction, can cause limb radiances which are by a factor of 1.7 higher than the blackbody radiance at cloud altitude.  相似文献

利用基于Mott散射截面和介电函数模型的Monte Carlo方法模拟了电子穿透掩膜的能量损失分布,其计算结果与实验结果符合很好. 由此进一步计算了角度限制投影电子束光刻(SCALPEL)掩膜的穿透率和衬度,结果表明:散射体的厚度对衬度的影响较大,衬度随散射体厚度的增加而增强,而支撑体对衬度的影响较小;增大限制孔的孔径角时,透射率相应增大,但衬度会降低;衬度随入射电子的能量增加而减小. 关键词: Monte Carlo模拟 电子束光刻 掩膜  相似文献

The aim of this study is to compare the absorbed doses of critical organs of 131I using the MIRD (Medical Internal Radiation Dose) with the corresponding predictions made by GEANT4 simulations. S-values (mean absorbed dose rate per unit activity) and energy deposition per decay for critical organs of 131I for various ages, using standard cylindrical phantom comprising water and ICRP soft-tissue material, have also been estimated. In this study the effect of volume reduction of thyroid, during radiation therapy, on the calculation of absorbed dose is also being estimated using GEANT4. Photon specific energy deposition in the other organs of the neck, due to 131I decay in the thyroid organ, has also been estimated. The maximum relative difference of MIRD with the GEANT4 simulated results is 5.64% for an adult's critical organs of 131I. Excellent agreement was found between the results of water and ICRP soft tissue using the cylindrical model. S-values are tabulated for critical organs of 131I, using 1, 5, 10, 15 and 18 years (adults) individuals. S-values for a cylindrical thyroid of different sizes, having 3.07% relative differences of GEANT4 with Siegel & Stabin results. Comparison of the experimentally measured values at 0.5 and 1 m away from neck of the ionization chamber with GEANT4 based Monte Carlo simulations results show good agreement. This study shows that GEANT4 code is an important tool for the internal dosimetry calculations.  相似文献

The work is aimed at studying the reliability of proton-induced neutron yield cross sections on 12C–127I biological tissue isotopes using the GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulation package, which is commonly applied for dosimetry calculations in proton therapy. Because of the lack of experimental results on the neutron yield for most of the isotopes considered, the simulated cross sections are first compared with theoretical data acquired using the TALYS nuclear reaction package, and the partial reaction cross sections calculated in TALYS are in turn analyzed in comparison with available experimental results. The mismatch between theory and experiment allows one to suggest a significant uncertainty in the calculation of the neutron doses associated with the isotopes under consideration.  相似文献

In this study the performance of double gap RPC has been tested by GEANT4 Monte Carlo simulation code. The detector response calculations taken as a function of the neutron energy in the range of 0.01 eV-1 GeV have been simulated through RPC set-up. In order to evaluate the response of detector in the LHC background environment, the neutron spectrum expected in the CMS muon endcap and barrel region were taken into account. A hit rate of about 165.5 Hz cm−2, 34 Hz cm−2, 33.6 Hz cm−2, and 27.0 Hz cm−2 due to an isotropic neutron source is calculated using GEANT4 standard electromagnetic package for a 20 × 20 cm2 RPC in the ME1, ME2, ME3 and ME4, respectively. While for the same neutron source and using GEANT4 package a hit rate of about 0.42 Hz cm−2, 0.7182 Hz cm−2 was measured for the MB1 and MB4 stations respectively. Similar characteristics of hit rates have been observed for GEANT4 low electromagnetic package.   相似文献

Monte Carlo simulations are increasingly used for dose calculations in proton therapy due to its inherent accuracy. However, dosimetric deviations have been found using Monte Carlo code when high density materials are present in the proton beamline. The purpose of this work was to quantify the magnitude of dose perturbation caused by metal objects. We did this by comparing measurements and Monte Carlo predictions of dose perturbations caused by the presence of small metal spheres in several clinical proton therapy beams as functions of proton beam range and drift space. Monte Carlo codes MCNPX, GEANT4 and Fast Dose Calculator (FDC) were used. Generally good agreement was found between measurements and Monte Carlo predictions, with the average difference within 5% and maximum difference within 17%. The modification of multiple Coulomb scattering model in MCNPX code yielded improvement in accuracy and provided the best overall agreement with measurements. Our results confirmed that Monte Carlo codes are well suited for predicting multiple Coulomb scattering in proton therapy beams when short drift spaces are involved.  相似文献

The CHIPS model and its first implementation within the GEANT4 simulation software package are considered. Hadron production in the process of nucleon-antinucleon annihilation is used as the basic example showing the structure of the model and corresponding software modeling algorithms. Model calculations of multiplicities and spectra of secondary hadrons in the annihilation process are compared with experimental data.  相似文献

In conventional Raman spectroscopic measurements of liquids or surfaces the preferred geometry for detection of the Raman signal is the backscattering (or reflection) mode. For non‐transparent layered materials, sub‐surface Raman signals have been retrieved using spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS), usually with light collection in the same plane as the point of excitation. However, as a result of multiple scattering in a turbid medium, Raman photons will be emitted in all directions. In this study, Monte Carlo simulations for a three‐dimensional layered sample with finite geometry have been performed to confirm the detectability of Raman signals at all angles and at all sides of the object. We considered a non‐transparent cuboid container (high density polyethylene) with explosive material (ammonium nitrate) inside. The simulation results were validated with experimental Raman intensities. Monte Carlo simulation results reveal that the ratio of sub‐surface to surface signals improves at geometries other than backscattering. In addition, we demonstrate through simulations the effects of the absorption and scattering coefficients of the layers, and that of the diameter of the excitation beam. The advantage of collecting light from all possible 4π angles, over other collection modes, is that this technique is not geometry specific and molecular identification of layers underneath non‐transparent surfaces can be obtained with minimal interference from the surface layer. To what extent all sides of the object will contribute to the total signal will depend on the absorption and scattering coefficients and the physical dimensions. 研究了GEANT4蒙特卡罗模拟程序在低能中子核反应中应用的可行性, 新版的GEANT(4.9.4版本)升级了老版本在模拟6Li(n, α)3H核反应道的不足, 并且加入了最新截面数据库。 对多个核反应道进行了研究, 模拟结果显示核反应截面、 次级粒子能量和反应的分支比等是正确的; 比较了掺6Li材料热中子探测效率的实验结果与MCNP和GEANT4模拟结果, 它们基本一致。 研究表明, 利用GEANT4研究6Li(n, α)3H是可行的, 这为进一步研究闪烁体中子探测器的位置分辨率模拟提供了有力支持。 The feasible study of Monte Carlo simulation of low energy nuclear reaction was performed based on GEANT4. The reaction channel 6Li(n, α)3H, simulated insufficiently in the old version Geant4, can be given correct results in the new version (version 4.9.4). New cross section library was added into the program. The study of several nuclear reaction channels shows that the cross sections, the secondary particle energies and the branching ratios are consistent with the experimental values. For doped 6Li materials, the comparison of thermal neutrons detection efficiencies of experimental results, MCNP and GEANT4 simulations, shows that the simulations are reasonable. From the studies above, it is feasible to simulate the 6Li(n, α)3H reaction with GEANT4. It will provide helpful information for the further study of the position resolution of scintillation neutron detector.  相似文献

The GEANT 4.9.2 software package is applied for the simulation of primary and Compton scattered bremsstrahlung spectra. The possibility of restoring primary γ-radiation spectra with the energy 0.02–1200 MeV using Compton scattering on secondary scattering targets is studied. The advantages of light targets using are demonstrated. An additional bremsstrahlung contribution from e±-pairs is calculated for high-energy γ quanta; the influence of CXR on the form of scattered X-ray quantum spectra is estimated. The spectra which have a multipeak structure are restored. For high-energy γ quanta there occurs significant spread of energies in the Compton scattered radiation spectrum, which imposes stringent conditions on collimation and detector resolution capability. The possibility of measuring the bremsstrahlung spectra from a primary target during high-angle Compton scattering is estimated.  相似文献
