The preliminary result of the P-odd asymmetry of prompt neutron emission in 235U fission induced by polarized cold neutrons is a=(2.7±0.8)×10?5. Only scission neutrons can show such asymmetry, whereas neutrons emitted by excited fragments are the unavoidable background, which suppress the sought asymmetry. The P-odd asymmetry of light fragment emission for 235U is equal to (8.4±0.6)×10?5. Assuming that the last figure defines the parity mixture of the fissile nucleus, then the suppression factor is equal approximately to 3.  相似文献

A unified mechanism of the emergence of T-odd ROT- and TRI-asymmetries is proposed for describing experimental T-odd asymmetry coefficients D(θ) in the angular distributions of prescission alphaparticles that are emitted in true ternary and quaternary nuclear fission reactions induced by cold polarized neutrons. The mechanism is related to the different ways in which the Coriolis interaction of the total spin of a polarized compound fissile nucleus with the orbital moment of alpha-particles affects even (for ROT-asymmetries) and odd (for TRI-asymmetries) components of the amplitude of an undisturbed angular distribution of emitted alpha-particles. Coefficients DROT(θ) and DTRI(θ) derived with this mechanism for T-odd ROT- and TRI-asymmetries successfully describe the dependences of corresponding experimental coefficients for 235U and 239Pu nuclei over the range of angles θ, and for the 233U nucleus in the angular range of 60° < θ < 110°. It is explained why only ROT-type T-odd asymmetries emerge for evaporated neutrons and γ-quanta emitted by fission fragments in similar reactions if we allows for the Coriolis interaction of the total spin of the compound fissile nucleus with the orbital moments of the fission fragments and the wriggling vibrations of the above nucleus near its scission point.  相似文献

A triple T-odd angular correlation is considered in the kinematically similar reactions 10B(n, αγ) and 233U(n, αf) induced by cold polarized neutrons. It is shown that, in the former reaction, this correlation is suppressed by the double parity-conservation selection rule due to the two-step character of the process; however, T invariance does not impose any specific constraints on this correlation. The mechanism through which the T-odd correlation found in ternary-fission reactions is formed seems to be closely related to a nearly simultaneous disintegration of the nucleus involved into two fission fragments and an alpha particle.  相似文献

It is shown that consideration of the Coriolis interaction makes it possible to explain both T-odd effects observed in ternary fission induced by polarized neutrons. A possible reason for the difference in the effects observed for 233U and 235U targets is discussed.  相似文献

Statistical distributions of the coefficients measured for the angular distribution of fragments originating from the fission of 235U oriented nuclei that was induced by resonance neutrons obtained by using booster targets at the electron accelerator in Harwell and at a pulsed reactor in Dubna were approximated by a curve that was calculated under the assumption of a normal distribution of partial-wave fission amplitudes. A cutoff from below at a level of one-half of the average partial-wave width was introduced in this distribution. The calculation was performed with allowance for the K = 0, 1 and 2 channels for J = 3 and the K = 1 and 2 channels for J =4. The contributions of the K channels to the total probability were in the ratio 0.15 : 0.53 : 0.32 for J = 3 and in the ratio 0.625 : 0.375 for J = 4. A strong suppression of the K = 0 channel in the J = 3 spin subsystem in contrast to the situation observed in photofission can be interpreted as an indication of the possible partial conservation of K in resonance states formed from the entrance channel, which features only maximum values of K equal to J and J ? 1.  相似文献

Some shortcomings of the approaches that are used to describe T-odd ROT and TRI asymmetries in true ternary fission via reactions involving the emission of prescission alpha particles and which are based on employing the classical method of trajectory calculations are analyzed. These shortcomings are caused by the disregard of the interference between the fission widths of different sJs neutron resonance states formed in the first well of the deformation potential of fissile compound nuclei. It is shown that the method used in some studies to determine T-odd TRI-asymmetries for prescission alpha particles is at odds with basic concepts of the generalizedmodel of the nucleus and approaches to constructing collective (for example, bending) vibrations of a fissile compound nucleus. Quantum-mechanical fission theory is generalized via employing a unified mechanism of formation of T-odd TRI and ROT asymmetries for prescission alpha particles and evaporated photons (neutrons). The proposed mechanism takes correctly into account the effect of quantum rotation of a fissile compound nucleus on the angular distributions of fission fragments and alpha particles for true ternary fission, as well as on the angular distribution of prompt photons (neutrons) emitted by fragments originating from the delayed fission of the aforementioned nuclei.  相似文献

The fragment mass yields in fission of 235U induced by thermal neutrons for A = 145–160 and EK = 50–75 MeV were measured using a mass spectrometer. The fine structure is observed at A = 153, 154 and EK = 50–60 MeV. The obtained results were described in the framework of a model based on the dinuclear system concept. The analyzed correlation between the total kinetic energy and mass distribution of fission fragments is connected with the shell structure of the formed fragments of fission. From this correlation and the time dependence of the calculated mass distribution of the binary reaction products, one can conclude that the descent time from a saddle point to a scission point for the more deformed fragments is longer than that for fragments of more compact shape.  相似文献

The anisotropy of angular distributions of fission fragments and the average multiplicity of prescission neutrons were calculated within a stochastic approach to fission dynamics on the basis of three-dimensional Langevin equations. This approach was combined with a Monte Carlo algorithm for the degree of freedom K (projection of the total angular momentum I onto the fission axis). The relaxation time τ K in the coordinate K was considered as a free parameter of the model; it was estimated on the basis of a fit to experimental data on the anisotropy of angular distributions. Specifically, the relaxation time τ K was estimated at 2 × 10?21 s for the compound nuclei 224Th and 225Pa and at 4 × 10?21 s for the heavier nuclei 248Cf, 254Fm, and 264Rf. The potential energy was calculated on the basis of the liquid-drop model with allowance for finiteness of the range of nuclear forces and for the diffuseness of the nuclear surface. A modified one-body viscosity mechanism featuring a coefficient k s that takes into account the reduction of the contribution from the wall formula was used to describe collective-energy dissipation. The coefficient k s was also treated as a free parameter and was estimated at 0.5 on the basis of a fit to experimental data on the average prescission multiplicity of neutrons.  相似文献

The time-of-flight technique is used to measure the ratios R(E, E n )=N(E, E n )/NCf(E) of the normalized (to unity) spectra N(E, E n ) of neutrons accompanying the neutron-induced fission of 238U at primary-neutron energies of E n =6.0 and 7.0 MeV to the spectrum NCf(E) neutrons from the spontaneous fission of 252Cf. These experimental data and the results of their analysis are discussed together with data that were previously obtained for the neutron-induced fission of 238U at the primary energies of E n =2.9, 5.0, 13.2, 14.7, 16.0, and 17.7 MeV.  相似文献

The yields of Kr (A = 87–93) and Xe (A = 138–143) primary fission fragments produced in 232Th, 238U, and 244Pu photofission upon the scission of a target nucleus and neutron emission were measured in an experiment with bremsstrahlung from electrons accelerated to 25 MeV by a microtron, and the results of these measurements are presented. The experimental procedure used involved the transportation of fragments that escaped from the target by a gas flow through a capillary and the condensation of Kr and Xe inert gases in a cryostat at liquid-nitrogen temperature. The fragments of all other elements were retained with a filter at the capillary inlet. The isotopes of Kr and Xe were identified by the γ spectra of their daughter products. The mass-number distributions of the independent yields of Kr and Xe isotopes are obtained and compared with similar data on fission induced by thermal and fast neutrons; the shifts of the fragment charges with respect to the undistorted charge distribution are determined. Prospects for using photofission fragments in studying the structure of highly neutron-rich nuclei are discussed.  相似文献

The spectra of prompt fission neutrons from the reaction 238U(n, F) for neutrons of energy in the range E n ≤ 20 MeV are interpreted within the statistical model. It is shown that exclusive spectra of prefission neutrons emitted in (n, xnf) reactions play a decisive role in describing the observed promptfission-neutron spectra and determine the average energies of prompt-fission neutrons. The dependence of the effect of prefission neutrons on the fissility of a target nucleus is demonstrated for the reactions 232Th(n, F), 235U(n, F), and 239Pu(n, F).  相似文献

Conditions for the appearance and observation of prescission gamma rays emitted by a fissioning nucleus prior to its separation into fission fragments were investigated within quantum-mechanical fission theory. It is shown that these conditions are realizable in the gamma decay of isovector electric giant dipole resonances in a fissile nucleus that are excited because of nonadiabaticity of the collective deformation motion of the nucleus at the ultimate stages of its prefission evolution. Angular and energy distributions of prescission gamma rays emitted by unpolarized fissioning nuclei are analyzed. Features of T-odd correlations in angular distributions of gamma rays arising in the fission of unpolarized target nuclei that is induced by polarized cold neutrons are investigated, and it is shown that these correlations are similar in nature to T-odd ROT correlations discovered earlier for alpha particles emitted in the ternary fission of nuclei.  相似文献

The delayed-neutron yield from thermal-neutron-induced fission of the 237Np nucleus was measured using a sample periodically exposed to a pulsed neutron beam with subsequent detection of neutrons during the time intervals between pulses. The experiment was realized on an Isomer-M setup mounted in the IBR-2 pulsed reactor channel equipped with a mirror neutron guide. The setup and the experimental procedure are described, the background sources are thoroughly analyzed, and the experimental data are presented. The total delayed-neutron yield from 237Np fission induced by thermal neutrons is ν d = 0.0110 ± 0.0009. This study was performed at the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics (JINR, Dubna).  相似文献

Within the quantum-mechanical theory of the nuclear-fission process, the conditions of the emergence of coherent effects in the angular distributions of fragments originating from the binary and ternary fission of polarized nuclei are analyzed with allowance for the properties of transition fission states. In the case of ternary fission, the coefficients of P-odd asymmetry in the angular distributions of a light particle and a third particle, which is taken here to be an alpha particle, are calculated under the assumption that the third particle and two fragments are produced through a one-step mechanism. In order to confirm the ideas developed here, it is proposed to repeat, at a higher level of statistical accuracy, experiments devoted to seeking P-odd asymmetries for alpha particles in the ternary fission of nuclei.  相似文献

A version of a theoretical explanation is proposed for the recently discovered effect of T-odd correlation in ternary nuclear fission induced by polarized neutrons. It is shown that the inclusion of the Coriolis interaction between a third particle and the fissile-nucleus spin within the quantum theory of fission makes it possible to explain the experimental features of the effect and provides a correct estimate of its magnitude.  相似文献

At proton energies of 4–9 MeV, trial experimental investigations were performed to confirm the excitation of Gamov–Teller resonance (GTR) 1+ in the compound nucleus 118Sb discovered by B.Ya. Guzhovskiy’s research group in the 117Sn(p,xn) reaction at proton energies of 7.2 MeV (the first component is GTR1) and 9.9MeV (the second component is GTR2). The 117Sn(p,xn) reaction was used, whose neutrons and background neutrons were registered by an all-wave long counter arranged at an angle of 140° to the direction of the proton beam propagation. Simultaneously, along with the registration of neutrons, elastically and inelastically scattered protons at angles of 20° and 160° were registered. At the proton energy equal to ~7.2 MeV, in the excitation functions for 117Sn(p,xn), 117Sn(p,p0), and 117Sn(p,p4)117Sn* (1004.5 keV, 3/2+), a resonance with a width of ≈1.2 MeV having an energy structure was discovered. Its possible quantum numbers are 1+.  相似文献

An analysis of low-energy true ternary (quaternary) nuclear fission leads to the conclusion that these fission modes have a sequential two-step (three-step) character such that the emission of a third particle (third and fourth particles) and the separation of fission fragments occur at distinctly different instants, in contrast to the simultaneous emergence of all fission products in the case of onestep ternary (quaternary) fission. This conclusion relies on the following arguments. First, the emission of a third particle (third and fourth particles) from a fissile nucleus is due to a nonevaporative mechanism associated with a nonadiabatic character of the collective deformation motion of this nucleus at the stages preceding its scission. Second, the axial symmetry of the deformed fissile compound nucleus and the direction of its symmetry axis both remain unchanged at all stages of ternary (quaternary) fission. This circumstancemakes it possible to explain themechanism of the appearance of observed anisotropies and T — odd asymmeries in the angular distributions of products of ternary (quaternary) nuclear fission. Third, the T —odd asymmetry discovered experimentally in ternary nuclear fission induced by cold polarized neutrons obeys the T —invariance condition only in the case of a sequential two-step (three-step) character of true ternary (quaternary) nuclear fission. At the same time, this asymmetry is not a T —invariant quantity in the case of the simultaneous emission of products of true ternary (quaternary) nuclear fission from the fissile compound nucleus.  相似文献

The various masses of fission products of U235-thermal fission were spacially separated by a helium filled magnetic mass separator. The number and energy of theβ-decays to the stable nuclides were counted and measured by a scintillation spectrometer. The time dependance of theβ-activity andβ-energy of the total of the U235 fission products was measured. The number ofβ-decays/fission was found to be (6,9±0,4)β-particles fission, the energy liberated byβ-decays (8,1±0,4) MeV/fission. A calculation of the totalβ-decay energy is given and compared with experimental data. The chainlengths ofβ-decay chains as a function of mass of the fission products were measured. Data on prompt neutron emission from fission products combined with the chainlength measurement give the mass dependance of the most probable charge of the primarily formed fission products. A recent model of asymmetric fission is shown to agree with the experimental data. The data give strong evidence that the filled nucleon shells ofZ=50 andN=50 are responsible for the asymmetric fission mechanism.  相似文献

The arrangement of an experiment to detect the P?odd and P, T?odd polarized part of the Mössbauer (+3/2– +1/2) gamma transition of a deformed 169Tm nucleus with an energy of 8.4 keV by Compton polarimetry is discussed. Tm 2O3 single crystal with a quadrupolarly split Mössbauer spectrum is proposed as a resonance polarizer. A Be-scatterer-based Compton polarimeter and a synchronously detecting system will be used to measure the P-odd circular polarization PCand P, T-odd linear polarization PL.The expected accuracy of measuring the relative magnitude of the P, T-odd contribution is about 1% of the magnitude of usual weak nucleon–nucleon interaction.  相似文献
