The objective of this article is to fabricate poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and nano silica (SiO2) composites and investigate effect of SiO2 on the properties of PLA composites. Surface‐grafting modification was used in this study by grafting 3‐Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH‐560) onto the surface of silica nanoparticles. The surface‐grafting reaction was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Then the hydrophilic silica nanoparticles became hydrophobic and dispersed homogeneously in PLA matrix. Scanning electron microscope and Dynamic thermomechanical analysis (DMA) results revealed that the compatibility between PLA and SiO2 was improved. Differential scanning calorimetry and polarized optical microscope tests showed that nano‐silica had a good effect on crystallization of PLA. The transparency analysis showed an increase in transparency of PLA, which had great benefit for the application of PLA. The thermal stability, fire resistance, and mechanical properties were also enhanced because of the addition of nano silica particles. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Novel modified cyanate ester resins (EPMPS‐n/BADCy), with significantly decreased dielectric loss and improved toughness, were developed by copolymerizing the cyanate ester resin, 2, 2′‐bis (4‐cyanatophenyl) isopropylidene resin) (BADCy), with an epoxidized methyl phenyl silicone resin (EPMPS). The curing behavior of EPMPS‐n/BADCy and the typical properties of the corresponding cured EPMPS‐n/BADCy were systematically investigated. The results show that the addition of EPMPS into BADCy can not only accelerate the curing reaction of BADCy, but also decrease dielectric loss and enhance the impact strength as well as water resistance. For example, in the case of the modified BADCy resin with 15 wt%EPMPS, its impact strength is 17.8 kJ/m2, about 3 times of that of pure BADCy resin and its water absorption is only 0.25%, about one‐half of that of pure BADCy resin. In addition, while the dielectric loss is only 79% of that of pure BADCy resin, while its dielectric constant remains constant over the frequency range of 1KHz‐1 MHz. The above results suggest that EPMPS‐n/BADCy have great potential to be used as the matrix or adhesive for advanced composites. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Polymer/SiO2 nanocomposite microspheres were prepared by double in situ miniemulsion polymerization in the presence of methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, γ‐methacryloxy(propyl) trimethoxysilane, and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). By taking full advantage of phase separation between the growing polymer particles and TEOS, inorganic/polymer microspheres were fabricated successfully in a one‐step process with the formation of SiO2 particles and the polymerization of organic monomers taking place simultaneously. The morphology of nanocomposite microspheres and the microstructure, mechanical properties, thermal properties, and optical properties of the nanocomposite films were characterized and discussed. The results showed that hybrid microspheres had a raspberry‐like structure with silica nanoparticles on the shells of polymer. The silica particles of about 20 nm were highly dispersed within the nanocomposite films without aggregations. The transmittance of nanocomposite film was comparable to that of the copolymer film at around 70–80% from 400 to 800 nm. The mechanical properties and the fire‐retardant behavior of the polymer matrix were improved by the incorporation of silica nanoparticles. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Epoxy/SiO2 nanocomposite materials were prepared by cationic photopolymerization and sol–gel process using a novel epoxy oligomer (EP‐Si(OC2H5)3) prepared by 3‐isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane (IPTS)‐grafted bisphenol A epoxy resin and tetraethyl orthosilicate as inorganic precursor. The chemical structures of EP‐Si(OC2H5)3 were characterized by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy. Transmission electron microscopy showed that the in situ generated nano‐SiO2 dispersed uniformly in the EP matrix, and its average diameter is around 40 nm. The relationship between nanocomposite materials' thermal/mechanical properties and nano‐SiO2 introduced were studied by thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis, and impact strength test. The results showed that the nanocomposite materials' thermal and mechanical properties improved a lot with increase of the SiO2 content. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The confinement effects introduced by nanoparticles have been reported to influence the phase behaviors thus the properties of polymer nanocomposites. In this study, molecular dynamics and crystallization behaviors of polyethylene (PE) composited with three types of silica (SiO2) nanoparticles, namely unmodified SiO2, hydrophobically modified SiO2, SiO2‐APTES (3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane) and SiO2‐PTES (n‐propyltriethoxysilane), were systematically investigated via a combination of DSC, XRD and 1H solid‐state NMR measurements. The suppressions in crystallization and chain mobilities of PE rank in the order of unmodified SiO2 < SiO2‐APTES < SiO2‐PTES due to the increasing interfacial interactions between PE and SiO2 nanoparticles. Additionally, independent of polymer–nanoparticle interactions, a silica network forms for all three kinds of nanocomposites when SiO2 content reaches 83 wt %. The mobilities of polymer chains are severely restricted by such a percolated network structure, leading to a turning point in the crystallization ability of nanocomposites and a new crystallization peak at 45 °C lower than that of pure PE. The synergetic effects of interfacial interactions and filler network on polymer crystallization have been thoroughly studied in this work, which will provide guidance on modifying and designing nanocomposites with controlled properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, a new type of soluble polyester/silica (PE/SiO2) hybrid was prepared by the ultrasonic irradiation process. The coupling agent γ-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GOTMS) was chosen to enhance the compatibility between the polyester (PE) and silica (SiO2). Furthermore, the effects of the coupling agent on the morphologies and properties of the PE/SiO2 hybrids were investigated using UV-vis and FT-IR spectroscopies and FE-SEM. The densities and solubilities of the PE/SiO2 hybrids were also measured. The results show that the size of the silica particle was markedly reduced by the introduction of the coupling agent, which made the PE/SiO2 hybrid films become transparent. Furthermore, thermal stability, residual solvent in the membrane film and structural ruination of membranes were analyzed by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The effects of SiO2 nanoparticles on the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the prepared nanocomposites were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Moreover, their mechanical properties were also characterized. It can be observed that the Young's moduli (E) of the hybrid films increase linearly with the silica content. The results obtained from gas permeation experiments with a constant pressure setup showed that adding SiO2 nanoparticles to the polymeric membrane structure increased the permeability of the membranes.  相似文献

A series of nanocomposites consisted of poly(butylene succinate) (PBSu) and fumed silica nanoparticles (SiO2) were prepared using the in situ polymerization technique. The amount of SiO2 used directly affected the final molecular weight of the prepared polyesters. At a low SiO2 content (0.5 wt.%) the molecular weight obtained was higher compared to neat PBSu, however at higher concentrations this was gradually reduced. The melting point of the matrix remained unaffected by the addition of the nanoparticles, in contrast to the crystallinity, which was dramatically reduced at higher SiO2 contents. This was mainly due to the extended branching and cross-linking reactions that took place between the carboxylic end groups of PBSu and the surface silanols of the nanoparticles. Thermal degradation of the PBSu/SiO2 nanocomposites was studied by determining theirs mass loss during heating. From the variations of the activation energies, calculated from the thermogravimetric curves, it was clear that nanocomposites containing 1 wt.% SiO2 content had a higher activation energy compared to pure PBSu, indicating that the addition of the nanoparticles could slightly increase the thermal stability of the matrix. However, in PBSu/SiO2 nanocomposite containing 5 wt.% SiO2 the activation energy was smaller. This phenomenon should be attributed to the existence of extended branched and cross-linked macromolecules, which reduce the thermal stability of PBSu, rather than to the addition of fumed silica nanoparticles.  相似文献

Mechanical properties and tribological behavior of epoxy resin (EP) and EP nanocomposites containing different shape nanofillers, such as spherical silica (SiO2), layered organo‐modified montmorillonite (oMMT) and oMMT‐SiO2 composites, were investigated. The SiO2‐oMMT composites were prepared by in situ deposition method and coupling agent modification, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis shows that spherical SiO2 is self‐assembled on the surface of oMMT, which forms a novel layered‐spherical nanostructure. The mechanical properties test results show that oMMT obviously improves the strength of EP and SiO2 enhances its toughness, but oMMT‐SiO2 exhibits a synergistic effect on toughening and reinforcing EP simultaneously. A pin‐on‐disc rig was used to test friction and wear loss of pure EP and EP nanocomposites. The tribological test results prove that these nanofillers with different shapes play different roles for improving the wear resistance of EP nanocomposites. Morphologies of the worn surfaces were studied further by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations, and it was clarified that the EP and EP nanocomposites undergo similar wear mechanisms. A phenylethynyl‐terminated reactive diluent [Card‐4‐phenylethynylphthalic anhydride (PEPA)], which contained fluorenyl cardo structures, was successfully synthesized and used as a modifier for flexible phenylethynyl‐terminated imide oligomer (PEI‐PEPA). The chemical structure, crosslink characterization, molecular weights, and thermal properties of the products were characterized. The imide systems with addition of 10, 20, 30, and 40 wt% Card‐PEPA to PEI‐PEPA (PEI‐PEPA‐Card) and their cured resin systems were prepared. The thermal curing behaviors of imide systems at different heating rates were analyzed by using differential scanning calorimetry. Thermal properties such as glass transition temperature (Tg) and char yield at 800°C of the resultant resin systems were studied by differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The rheological properties were also investigated using a dynamic rheometry. These properties were found to be outstanding compared with pure PEI‐PEPA. The uncured imide systems exhibited lower Tg and lower isothermal viscosity with addition of Card‐PEPA. Furthermore, the Tg and char yield of the cured resin systems increased with addition of Card‐PEPA. The cured resin systems containing 40 wt% Card‐PEPA exhibited the highest Tg of 359°C and char yield at 800°C of 66.5%. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Organic–inorganic hybrid nanocomposites composed of conductive polypyrrole (PPy) and surface modified silica (SiO2) were successfully prepared through an in situ chemical oxidative polymerization in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). SiO2 nanoparticles were surface modified using 3‐methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) in order to disperse well in the medium. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the SiO2 nanoparticles were encapsulated into the polymer. UV‐visible spectra of the diluted colloidal dispersions of PPy/SiO2 hybrid nanocomposites were similar to those of PPy system. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) suggested the strong interaction between PPy and SiO2. Surface characterizations of nanocomposites were described by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The nanocomposites synthesized in scCO2 have been shown to possess higher electrical conductivity and thermal stability. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The UV‐cured organic‐inorganic hybrid nanocomposite (nano‐Si‐m‐PI) was prepared through the photopolymerization of acrylic resin initiated by ethoxysilane‐modified multifunctional oligomeric photoinitiator (Si‐m‐PI). The esterification reaction of 2‐hydroxy‐4′‐(2‐hydroxyethoxy)‐2‐methylpropiophenone (Irgacure 2959) with thioglycolic acid, and the following addition reactions with dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate and then 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane were carried out for preparing the Si‐m‐PI. The Si‐m‐PI exhibits the similar UV absorption and molar extinction coefficient with Irgacure 2959. The photoinitiating activity study by photo‐DSC analysis showed that the Si‐m‐PI possesses high photopolymerization rate at the peak maximum (Rpmax) and final unsaturation conversion (Pf) in the cured hybrid films. From the scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation, the SiO2 nanoparticles dispersed uniformly in the formed nano‐Si‐m‐PI, whereas the aggregation of nanoparticals occurred in nano‐Irg, which was prepared through the photopolymerization of acrylic resin initiated by Irgacure 2959. Moreover, compared with the UV‐cured pure polymer and nano‐Irg, the nano‐Si‐m‐PI showed remarkably enhanced thermal stability and mechanical properties.  相似文献

Reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene (DMB) in solution and on the surface of silica nanoparticles was investigated and PDMB-grafted silica nanoparticles (PDMB-g-SiO2 NPs) with different chain densities and molecular weights were prepared. The kinetic studies of DMB polymerization mediated by silica anchored RAFT agents at different graft densities were investigated and compared to the polymerization mediated by the corresponding free RAFT agent. The PDMB-g-SiO2 NPs were cured to prepare rubbery films and obtain matrix-free nanocomposites, which exhibited a good dispersion of silica nanoparticles and improved mechanical properties compared to the unfilled crosslinked rubber. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The morphological structure and mechanical properties of the star‐shaped solution‐polymerized styrene‐butadiene rubber (SSBR) and organically modified nanosilica powder/star‐shaped SSBR co‐coagulated rubber (N‐SSBR) both filled with silica/carbon black (CB) were studied. The results showed that, compared with SSBR, silica powder could be mixed into N‐SSBR much more rapidly, and N‐SSBR/SiO2 nanocomposite had better filler‐dispersion and processability. N‐SSBR/SiO2/CB vulcanizates displayed higher glass‐transition temperature and lower peak value of internal friction loss than SSBR/SiO2/CB vulcanizates. In the N‐SSBR/SiO2/CB vulcanizates, filler was dispersed in nano‐scale resulting in good mechanical properties. Composites filled with silica/CB doped filler exhibited more excellent mechanical properties than those filled with a single filler because of the better filler‐dispersion and stronger interfacial interaction with macromolecular chains. N‐SSBR/SiO2/CB vulcanizates exhibited preferable performance in abrasion resistance and higher bound rubber content as the blending ratio of silica to CB was 20:30. A facile method to prepare shape memory polymers crosslinked by SiO2 is described. A series of biodegradable shape memory networks were obtained through thiol‐ene reaction triggered by UV irradiation between surface‐thiol‐modified SiO2 nanoparticles and end‐acrylate poly (ε‐caprolactone) (PCL). The highly selective thiol‐ene reaction ensured a uniform distribution of PCL chains between crosslinkers, contributing well‐defined network architecture with enhanced mechanical and shape‐memory properties. Thiol‐functionalized silica nanoparticle was characterized by using FTIR and XPS analysis, and 1H NMR spectra was used to confirm the successful modification of terminal hydroxyl group of PCL diol. Surface‐modified silica particles were found well dispersible in acrylate‐capped PCL supported by SEM. Thermal and crystalline behaviors of the obtained polymers were analyzed by DSC and XRD, and DMA measurement proved good mechanical property. The shape memory behavior and tensile strength was somewhat tunable by the length of PCL. Acceptably, sample SiO2‐SMP2k presented 99% recovery ratio and 97% shape fixity, and its relatively high tensile strength showed an attractive potential for biomedical application. Finally, a possible molecular mechanism accounting for the shape memory property was illustrated. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2017 , 55, 692–701  相似文献

In this study, a silicic acid and tetra isopropyl ortho titanate ceramic precursor and a metallocene polyethylene‐octene elastomer (POE) or acrylic acid grafted metallocene polyethylene‐octene elastomer (POE‐g‐AA) were used in the preparation of hybrids (POE/SiO2? TiO2 and POE‐g‐AA/SiO2? TiO2) using an in situ sol‐gel process, with a view to identifying a hybrid with improved thermal and mechanical properties. Hybrids were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 29Si solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X‐ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry analysis, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, and Instron mechanical testing. Properties of the POE‐g‐AA/SiO2? TiO2 hybrid were superior to those of the POE/SiO2? TiO2 hybrid. This was because the carboxylic acid groups of acrylic acid acted as coordination sites for the silica‐titania phase to allow the formation of stronger chemical bonds. 29Si solid‐state NMR showed that Si atoms coordinated around SiO4 units were predominantly Q3 and Q4. The 10 wt % SiO2? TiO2 hybrids gave the maximum values of tensile strength and glass transition temperature in both POE/SiO2? TiO2 and POE‐g‐AA/SiO2? TiO2. It is proposed that above this wt %, excess SiO2? TiO2 particles caused separation between the organic and inorganic phases. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ultrasonically assisted in situ emulsion polymerization was used to prepare electrically conducting copolymer poly(aniline‐co‐p‐phenylenediamine) [poly(Ani‐co‐pPD)] and silica (SiO2) nancomposites. This approach can solve problems in the dispersion and stabilization of SiO2 nanoparticles in the copolymer matrix. It was found that the aggregation of SiO2 nanoparticles could be reduced under ultrasonic irradiation. Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) confirmed that the resulting poly(Ani‐co‐pPD)/SiO2 nanocomposite particles were spherical in shape, in which SiO2 nanoparticles were well dispersed. The comonomer molecules were absorbed on the surface of SiO2 particles and then polymerized to form core–shell nanocomposite. The incorporation of SiO2 in the nanocomposite was supported by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR). UV‐visible spectra of the diluted colloid dispersion of nanocomposite particles were similar to those of the neat copolymer. Conductivity of nanocomposites was higher than the value obtained for the neat copolymer. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Silica (SiO2) nanoparticles and silica/calcium carbonate (SiO2/CaCO3) core–shell nanocomposites were prepared by sol–gel technique as fillers for papermaking application. Semi-burned rice straw ash (SBRSA), as waste material, was used to prepare the targeted fillers. Preparation of SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites was carried out using Na2SiO3 solution that was prepared from SBRSA and CaCO3 nanoparticles of 30–70 nm. The targeted SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites were prepared with different molar ratio of SiO2:CaCO3 1:15, 1:10 and 1:5. The percentage of silica increased from 62.5% to 82.9% by thermal treatment of SBRSA at 800 °C for 2 h. The prepared SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites were characterized by using XRD, XRF, TEM, FT-IR and Zeta potential. The results indicate that a pure semi-crystalline SiO2 nanoparticle and semi-crystalline shell of SiO2 coated CaCO3 core particles were produced. The work extended also to investigate the effect of the prepared fillers on physical, mechanical and optical properties of paper.Application of the prepared SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites improved the optical properties of paper (brightness, whiteness and opacity) but it slightly reduced the mechanical properties when compared to commercial precipitated CaCO3 (PCC) filler. The results showed that the retention of SiO2 nano-particles was highly increased. The retention of the prepared nanocomposites increased along with increasing of SiO2:CaCO3 molar ratio.  相似文献

A study on poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) reinforced with tetraethoxysilanes (TEOS) derived SiO2 is described. It included the manufacturing process of SiO2‐reinforced PTFE and the effects of silylation agent on the properties of the hybrid material, such as porosity, hydrophobic, thermal resistance, dielectric and mechanical properties, and microstructure. PTFE/SiO2 hybrids of 50 wt % SiO2 loading were prepared via a sol–gel process and were shaped by a two‐roll milling machine. Trimethylchlorosilane and hexamethydisilazane were used as the silylation agents. Our results showed that the water absorption and dielectric loss of PTFE/SiO2 hybrid had significantly improved with silylation agent. The silylation process replaced Si? OH with Si? CH3 on the surface of the TEOS‐derived silica colloidal particle. The existence of trimethylsilyl [? Si(CH3)3] on the surface of the modified PTFE/SiO2 hybrid was confirmed via infrared and solid‐state 29Si magic‐angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. Nitrogen‐sorption techniques were used to characterize the modified and unmodified PTFE/SiO2 hybrids. The microstructure of SiO2 in the matrix was also evaluated with scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Our results showed that the silylated sol–gel‐derived PTFE/SiO2 hybrids had exhibited high porosity (53.7%) with nanosize pores (10–40 nm) and nanosize colloidal particles (20–50 nm). This manifests itself as have the ultralow dielectric properties (Dk = 1.9 and Df = 0.0021), low coefficient of thermal expansion (66.5 ppm/°C), high tensile modulus (141 MPa), excellent thermal resistance (Td = 612 °C), and an increased hydrophobia (θ = 114°); moreover, the hydrophobic property of the PTFE/SiO2 hybrid was thermally stable up to 400 °C. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. UV‐curing technique was employed in this study to prepare polyester‐acrylate nanocomposite films with silane‐grafted silica nanoparticles. Methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane was grafted to the surfaces of silica nanoparticles to improve dispersion of silica nanoparticles as well as interfacial adhesion between the resin matrix and silica nanoparticles. The silane‐grafting was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy. The effects of the silane‐grafting on the mechanical and optical properties as well as UV‐curing behavior of the nanocomposite films were investigated. The tensile strength, transmittance, UV‐curing rate, and final chemical conversion of the nanocomposite films were increased by use of the grafted silica nanoparticles as compared to the use of neat silica nanoparticles.
