We investigate the corner spin magnetization of two-dimensional ferromagnetic Ising models in various wedge geometries. Results are obtained for triangular and square lattices by numerical studies on finite wedges using the star-triangle transformation, as well as analytic calculations using corner transfer matrices and a fermionic representation of the row-to-row transfer matrix. The corner magnetizations vanish at the bulk critical temperature Tc with an exponent c differing from the bulk exponent. For isotropic systems with free edges we find that c is given simply by c =/2, where is the angle at the corner. For apex magnetizations of conical lattices we obtain the strikingly similar result a=/4. These formulas apply equally well to anisotropic lattices if the angle is interpreted as an effective angle, eff, determined by the relative strengths of the interactions.  相似文献

We study the kinetics of irreversible random sequential parking of intervals of different sizes on an infinite line. For the simplest fixed-length parking distribution the model reduces to the known car-parking problem and we present an alternate solution to this problem. We also consider the general homogeneous case when the parking distribution varies asx –1 atx 1 with the lengthx of the filling interval. We develop a scaling theory describing such mixture-deposition processes and show that the scaled hole-size distribution(), with =xt z a scaling variable, decays with the scaled mass as exp(—const·1+) as . We determine scaling exponentsz and, and find that at large times the coverage(t) has a power-law form 1 – (t)t v with nonuniversal exponent =(2–)/(1+) depending on the homogeneity index .  相似文献

The Lorentz transformation is derived without assuming that the velocity of light is a constant. This suggests that the constantc which appears in the transformation has a deeper significance than heretofore commonly assumed. It is hypothesized that there exists, in all of physical reality, velocities of only one magnitude. The magnitude isc, the speed of light in vacuum. This hypothesis forces us to view a fundamental particle as an extended object and matter in general as a field (t, r, ), which we give the generic name stuff. An important feature of the field is that at each spacetime point(t, r) stuff travels in all directions with speedc. In order to elucidate the nature of (t, r, ), the equations determining for a one-dimensional world are derived and solved. The contact process is a model of spread of an infectious disease. Combining with the result of ref. 1, we prove that the critical exponents take on the mean-field values for sufficiently high dimensional nearest-neighbor models and for sufficiently spread-out models with d>4:() c as c and ()( c)–1 as c, where () and () are the spread probability and the susceptibility of the infection respectively, and c is the critical infection rate. Our results imply that the upper critical dimension for the contact process is at most 4.  相似文献

A theory is given of a new structure produced when demagnetizing uniaxial single crystals (e.g. magnetoplumbite) in a field normal to thec axis. The experimental results fully support the theory on the assumption that domain structures produced under normal conditions are metastable. Methods are given by which stable structures can be prepared from such metastable ones. On the basis of these results opinions are expressed as to the nucleation of plate and honeycomb structures, produced either by reducing the field from saturation or by cooling below the Curie point.

We consider KAM invariant curves for generalizations of the standard map of the form (x, y)=(x+y, y+f(x)), wheref(x) is an odd trigonometric polynomial. We study numerically their analytic properties by a Padé approximant method applied to the function which conjugates the dynamics to a rotation +. In the complex plane, natural boundaries of different shapes are found. In the complex plane the analyticity region appears to be a strip bounded by a natural boundary, whose width tends linearly to 0 as tends to the critical value.  相似文献

We consider a semi-infinite 3-dimensional Ising system with a rough wall to describe the effect of the roughness r of the substrate on wetting. We show that the difference of wall free energies (r)= AW(r)– BW(r) of the two phases behaves like (r)r(1), where r=1 characterizes a purely flat surface, confirming at low enough temperature and small roughness the validity of Wenzel's law, cos (r)r cos (1), which relates the contact angle of a sessile droplet to the roughness of the substrate  相似文献

Shear-free, general-relativistic perfect fluids are investigated in the case where they are either homogeneous or hypersurface-homogeneous (and, in particular, spatially homogeneous). It is assumed that the energy density and the presurep of the fluid are related by a barotropic equation of statep = p(), where +p 0. Under such circumstances, it follows that either the fluid's volume expansion rate or the fluid's vorticity (i.e., rotation) must vanish. In the homogeneous case, this leads to only two possibilities: either = = 0 (the Einstein static solution), or 0, = 0 (the Gödel solution). In the hypersurface-homogeneous case, the situation is more complicated: either = 0, 0 (as exemplified,inter alia, by the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker models), or 0, = 0 (which pertains, for example, in general stationary cylindrically symmetric fluids with rigid rotation, or = = 0 (as occurs for static spherically symmetric solutions). Each possibility is further subdivided in an invariant way, and related to the studies of other authors, thereby unifying and extending these earlier works.  相似文献

We have studied the various nonlinear optical processes that can be described by a fourth-rank (3)-tensor: signals of frequency in degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM), harmonics of frequency 2 and 3, and (3)-type difference-frequency generation (DFG) with observation of anti-Stokes emission of a signal of frequency 212. Structural information in terms of normalized anisotropies is derived in all frequency domains by analysis of the elements of the respective orientation-dependent susceptibility tensor. A novel laser-based technique for the remote orientation analysis of crystalline structures is introduced.  相似文献

The method of using regularization to analyze singularities is applied to the Schwarzschild metric in isotropic spherical coordinates (3). It is found that there arises a singularity at the gravitational radius which does not satisfy the conditions of physical realizability (T =T ,T 0 0 =T =0). We study ergodic Jacobi matrices onl 2(Z), and prove a general theorem relating their a.c. spectrum to the spectra of periodic Jacobi matrices, that are obtained by cutting finite pieces from the ergodic potential and then repeating them. We apply this theorem to the almost Mathieu operator: (H , , u)(n)=u(n+1)+u(n–1)+ cos(2n+)u(n), and prove the existence of a.c. spectrum for sufficiently small , all irrational 's, and a.e. . Generalizing a definition given by Budic and Sachs we define the set (M) of deterministic points of a space-timeM, and show that (M) Ø implies thatM admits compact achronal slices. A technique of computer aided derivation of analytical formulas has been applied to perturbed- angular correlation functions in case of the static axial electric quadrupole interaction in a single crystal. An arbitrary orientation of the EFG symmetry axis with respect to the detectors was considered. Explicit formulas for correlation functions in commonly used detector configurations= and=/2 have been obtained. Small corrections to the previously published formulas have been suggested.  相似文献

We extend exact series enumerations for the mean square radius of gyration for lattice animals up to sizeN=19 on the square andN=12 on the simple cubic lattices. We have reanalysized the corrections to scaling exponents using the new data and found =0.5±0.05 and =0.45±0.1 in 2 and 3 dimensions respectively.  相似文献

A thin film of NbN (thickness t = 300 Å), has been deposited on an MgO and a Si wafer. Both samples have been studied by transmission from 10 or 20 to 120 cm–1, and have exhibited one maximum of transmission at a given frequency like the classical superconductors as Pb, Sn or Hg in the superconductive state. From the Far IR experimental data, the characteristic temperature c, and the gap frequency (gap () = 2 (), () being the energy gap) are immediately obtained (for instance for the NbN / MgO sample, c = 15.5 K; g (5 K) = 39.7 cm–1), and it is seen that as expected from the BCS theory for a weak coupling. To fit the data we had to adjust only two additionnal parameters: collision and plasma frequency, c () and p (including all carriers). At = 5 K, thebest fit for the NbN / MgO sample is obtained with c = 371 cm–1 and p = 12,600cm–1.  相似文献

The decay of periodic surface profiles by surface self-diffusion is simulated by numerically solving the phenomenological equations for this process. The crystalline nature of the surface is taken into account by introducing an anisotropic surface free energy,(). Depending on the degree of anisotropy of(), the decay kinetics and the shapes of the profiles are largely different. A comparison with measurements of profile decay on Pt(l10) single crystal surfaces shows that the anisotropy in() along the [1¯10] azimuth should be about 2–3%, while that along the [001] azimuth is expected near 8%. In the latter case large amplitude profiles exhibit (111) faceting and slow decay kinetics which are non-exponential. The rate of surface self-diffusion on Pt(110) is anisotropic with the [1¯10] direction being faster than the [001] direction.  相似文献

We study the Landau problem on the -deformed two-torus and use well-known projective modules to obtain perturbed energy spectra. For a strong magnetic field B, the problem can be restricted to one particular Landau level. First we represent generators of the algebra of the noncommutative torus T 2 as finite-dimensional matrices. A second approach leads to a reducible representation with a -dependent center. For a simple periodic potential, the rational part of the Hofstadter butterfly spectrum is obtained.  相似文献

The surface morphology after deposition of Ag on Ag(111) at low temperatures (130–200 K) has been studied in detail with SPA-LEED (Spot-Profile Analysis of Low-Energy Electron Diffraction). The surface roughness and the mean terrace size have been quantitatively determined under various conditions. At 130 K the surface roughness increases with coverage exactly according to the relation = 1/2, which indicates that the inter-layer diffusion can be neglected at 130 K. Although the mean terrace length decreases with increasing coverage (following an approximate power law of –2/3) for all studied coverages, it is much larger than expected for a pure random or Poisson-growth mode without any diffusion of the adatoms. Therefore, Ag grows on Ag(111) at this temperature without interlayer diffusion but with intra-layer diffusion. The intralayer diffusion barrierE d has been determined by measuring the temperature dependence of the two-dimensional island density according to the nucleation theory (supposing a critical nucleus size of one). The obtained valueE c=0.18 eV agrees with the theoretical calculations and previous measurements. Furthermore, from comparing measured and Monte-Carlo-simulated (MC) surface roughness at different deposition temperatures we obtain E=0.05 eV as a lower limit for the additional barrier at steps.  相似文献
